David Craig
David Lee Craig, 52, 201 Highland Court, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
Born June 27, 1944, in Danville, he was a son of Harry Alexander Craig Sr. and Frances Talbott Craig.
He spent his entire life in Danville, where he was employed by Dan River Inc. He was also a published writer of poetry.
He attended Emmanuel Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by a brother, Harry A. Craig Jr. of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. Thursday in Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Robert Vermillion.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Barker Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of his brother, 230 Alpine Drive, Danville.
Ira Gray
Ira William Gray, 82, 97 Stokesland Ave., died Monday, May 19, 1997, in Morehead Memorial Hospital of Eden, N.C.
He was a native of Raleigh County, W.Va.
He was a retired gunsmith and a member of Cascade Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Betty Floyd of Grosse Ile, Mich.; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Friday from Cascade Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will be in Danview cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Fair Funeral Home in Eden, and other times at the residence of Ruby S. Miller, 221 Bedford Drive, Eden.
Mary Guill
Mary Thornton Guill, 62, 374 Seminole Trail, died at 10 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following 15 years of declining health.
Born Dec. 25, 1934, in Chatham, she was a daughter of Percy Lee and Sally Vasser Thornton.
On July 2, 1955, she was married
to Robert Monroe Guill Sr., who survives.
She was a member of the Tabernacle and spent most of her life in Danville.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Amy Laverne Ivy and Lisa Dawn Schrader, both of Danville; a son, Robert "Rob" M. Guill Jr. of Danville; a granddaughter, Amber Denise Ivy; and a grandson, Dennis Parker Ivy Jr.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Frederick J. Vicks. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Walter McBride
Walter William McBride, 62, 1170 Ferry Road, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health since November 1996.
Born April 13, 1935, in Patrick County, he was a son of William Roy McBride and Maggie Lawson McBride.
He was married
to Mary McCubbins McBride, who survives.
Since 1955 he had lived in Danville, where he was employed by Wickes Lumber Building Supply Co. as a truck driver for 18 years. He later worked for Danville Lumber Co., where he retired in 1991.
He was a member of Ferry Road Friends Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Mary McBride Jones of Danville; a son, William A. McBride of Lykens, Pa.; three sisters, Ruby M. Myers of Ringgold, Ruth M. Hyler of Keeling and Trina M. Reindl of Virginia Beach; a brother, Junior K. McBride of Danville; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Linwood R. Hairfield and the Rev. Wayne Wallace. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Ethel Newman
Ethel G. Newman, 72, 237 Brightwell Court, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 28, 1924, in Richmond, she was a daughter of James Sterling Green Sr. and Martha Thomas Hall Green, who survive.
She was married
to Winifred C. Newman Sr., who survives.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Inc. for 28 years. She was also a member of Riveroak Church of God for 34 years.
In addition to her husband of the residence and her parents, survivors include two sons, Winifred C. Newman Jr. of Midland, Texas, and Larry J. Newman of Roanoke; three sisters, Cladia G. Grant and Katherine Compton, both of Greensboro, N.C., and Barbara G. Masterson of Melborne, Fla.; a brother, J. Sterling Green Jr. of Danville; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.
Harry Waller
Harry Vernon Waller, 87, 864 Edmonds St., died Monday, May 19, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following two years of declining health.
Born March 31, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Rawley Waller and Minnie Adams Waller.
He was married
to Edna Johnson Waller, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville, and had been a resident of Roman Eagle Memorial Home since January 1997.
He was a member of Lynn-Haven Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Bethesda Lodge No. 57.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Disston Corporation as a machinist.
He served in the National Guard of Virginia until 1940.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include five stepdaughters, Nancy H. Newcomb, Marie H. Day and Virgie H. George, all of Danville, Kitty H. Wellman of Leesburg, Fla., and Delilah H. Batson of Wilmington, N.C.; a stepson, Clarence N. Harville of Ringgold; 18 stepgrandchildren; and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Stephen R. Lamb.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Lola Willis
Lola Melton Willis, 78, 326 Wrenn Drive, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, in her residence.
Born March 13, 1919, in Danville, she was a daughter of Jessie Melton and Mamie Gillispie Melton, and a stepdaughter of Polly Melton.
On July 4, 1940, she was married
to James "Pete" Willis, who survives.
In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed by Dan River Inc. for 20 years.
She was a member of Riveroak Church of God, where she was a charter member of the VIPs and a member of Riveroak Care Partners. She also taught Sunday school for many years.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three sons, James "Buddy" Willis of Ronda, N.C., David R. Willis and Steven W. Willis, both of Danville; a brother, Jim Melton of Danville; three sisters, Minnie Lindley of Hampstead, N.C., Ruth Gammon of Raleigh, N.C., and Jean Swicegood of Danville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, George Melton; a sister, Virginia Guthrie; and two stepbrothers, G.P. Carter and Frank Carter.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Riveroak Church of God by the Rev. Tim Nuckles. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Gennie Brandon
ALTON - Gennie Ester Owen Brandon, 66, 1069 Brandon Chapel Road, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, following a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 12 1930, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of Tom and Katie Garland.
She was married
to Raymond Lee Brandon, who survives.
She received her education in the Caswell County Public Schools.
She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Alton.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Cathy Brandon of Fairfax and Mary Gallman of Woodbridge; a son, Carl Brandon of Burke; five sisters, Lottie Brandon of Alexandria, Mary Brandon of Milton, N.C., Connie Medley of Philadelphia, Anna Bellamy of Durham, N.C., and Mildred Juanita Brandon of Alton; a brother, Amos Garland of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Greater Brandon Chapel Baptist Church by Dr. H.R. Surgeon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body may be viewed from noon until 8 tonight at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel in Semora, N.C.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Livingston Douglas
LEONIA, N.J. - Livingston C. Douglas, 72, died Friday, May 16, 1997.
He was married
to Mary Kip nee Grecne.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an art director for Colgate-Palmolive in New York.
He was past commander of American Legion Post No. 1 and was a member of V.F.W. of Leonia.
He is survived by four daughters, Mary Carley Douglas of Danville, Va., Mildred Douglas of South Glens Falls, N.Y., Laurie Harris of St. Johnsville, N.Y., and Carol Douglas of Leonia; a sister, Joan Lindow of Selensgrove, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral was held Tuesday, May 20, 1997.
