Mary Guill
Mary Thornton Guill, 62, 374 Seminole Trail, died at 10 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following 15 years of declining health.
Born Dec. 25, 1934, in Chatham, she was a daughter of Percy Lee and Sally Vasser Thornton.
On July 2, 1955, she was married
to Robert Monroe Guill Sr., who survives.
She was a member of the Tabernacle and spent most of her life in Danville.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Amy Laverne Ivy and Lisa Dawn Schrader, both of Danville; a son, Robert "Rob" M. Guill Jr. of Danville; a granddaughter, Amber Denise Ivy; and a grandson, Dennis Parker Ivy Jr.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Frederick J. Vicks. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Lillian Haymore
DRY FORK - Lillian Hearp Haymore, 79, 188 F.C. Beverly Road, died Wednesday, May 21, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where she had been a resident for six years. She had been in declining health for 10 years.
Born Aug. 5, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of L.H. Hearp and Daisy Stowe Hearp.
On Sept. 28, 1935, she was married
to Herman F. Haymore, who survives.
She spent her entire life in the Whitmell community of Pittsylvania County. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Inc. in the No. 4 Dress Room.
She was a member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she served as a former Sunday school teacher for 35 years and as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include four sons, H.F. Haymore Jr. and Johnny R. Haymore, both of Danville, Jerry W. Haymore of Greenville, N.C., and Ronnie L. Haymore of Dry Fork; a brother, Leonard S. Hearp of Dry Fork; five sisters, Ollie Holley Wells, Lucy H. Burnett and Boots H. Ryan, all of Danville, Inez H. Holley of Chatham and Eunice H. Hall of Kingsport, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, J. Depsey Hearp and Early Hearp.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Roger Collins, the Rev. Cecil Coates and the Rev. Bennett Shelton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, on Route 703, which is off Route 41.

John Hensley
GOODE - John Franklin Hensley, 61, of 118 East Otter Ridge Drive, and formerly of Danville, died Wednesday, May 21, 1997, in Oakwood Manor in Bedford, following several months of declining health.
Born May 9, 1936, in Scott County, he was a son of Gaines Hensley and Alpha Woods Hensley.
He was first married
to Wilhelmina Smith, who died in 1988. He was later married
to Melissa Shelton Hensley, who survives.
He was employed as an advanced technology training coordinator with the Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. in Tyler, Texas. He also worked in Starksville, Miss., and Atlanta before moving to Danville in 1973 to work for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. Prior to his retirement, he served as maintenance training supervisor.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a member of the Bedford Chapter Disabled American Veterans, and co-founder of the Blue Grass and Old Time Music Association.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his wife of Goode, survivors include a son, Jeffrey R. Hensley of Baltimore; a stepson, Michael Dean Adkins Jr. of Dry Fork; three brothers, Paul Green of Kingsport, Tenn., Carroll Hensley of Danville and Horace Hensley of Temple Hills, Md.; two sisters, Betty Mumpower of Kingsport, Tenn., and July Harpaer of Hiltons; and one stepgrandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday in Hampton cemetery in Mendota by the Rev. George Jones and the Rev. J.D. Neely.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel. Visitation will also be at Akard Funeral Home in Bristol, Tenn., from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday.
Edna Lynch
Edna Pearl Simpkins Lynch, 88, formerly of Holiday Village, 224 Courtland St., died Wednesday, May 21, 1997, in Riverside Health Care Center, where she had been a resident for 31/2 years. She had been in declining health for four years.
Born April 13, 1909, in Floyd County, she was a daughter of George Simpkins and Rhoda Jane White Simpkins.
On Feb. 29, 1928, she was married
to Herman B. Lynch, who died in October 1975.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was employed by Dan River Inc. for many years. She was also a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Herman J. Lynch and Wayne G. Lynch, both of Ringgold, and Sherman Edward Lynch of Danville; a daughter, Geneva Maye L. Goard of Danville; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Lee Ellison.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, 168 Gloucester Ave., Danville.

Annie Moore
Annie Riley Moore, 60, 336 Locust Lane, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 29, 1936, in South Carolina, she was a daughter of Ethel Riley Yates and Cuff Yates.
She was married
to the Rev. Walter M. Moore, who predeceased her.
She was educated in the Winston-Salem, N.C., Public School System. She received her undergraduate degree from Morris Brown University in Sumter, S.C., and her master's degree from Lynchburg College.
She was employed by the Danville Public School System for many years and later transferred to the Pittsylvania County School System.
Prior to her retirement on disability in 1994, she was employed as a resource teacher at Union Hall Elementary School.
She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Danville, where she served in the senior choir, the Missionary Society and the Flower Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Malissia Holland of Clinton, Md., and Lynda Sutton of Norwich, Conn.; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Letcher Coleman. Burial will be in Piedmont Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem.
The body may be viewed at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

Hazel Norton
Hazel Harvey Norton, 82, 213 Marshall Terrace, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 30, 1915, in Danville, she was a daughter of Charles Thomas Harvey and Flora Dodd Harvey.
She was married
to Bruce E. Norton, who predeceased her.
She was a retired housekeeping supervisor for Memorial Hospital and owner and operator of Norton's Florist.
She graduated from Whitmell High School.
She was a former member of Pilot Club. She was also a member of Moseley Memorial Methodist Church, Suzanna Wesley Class, and Circle No. 4.
Survivors include a son, Charles Bruce Norton of Danville; a daughter, Louise N. Standridge of Fayetteville, Ark.; two stepdaughters, Helen Norton Mustain and Jane Norton Hughes, both of Danville; a brother, Lewis Dwayne Harvey of Hopewell; two sisters, Kitty Harvey Myers of Ridgeway and Helen Harvey Nuckels of Danville; a brother, William Issac Harvey of Chester; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Moseley Memorial Methodist Church by the Rev. Richard Cobb. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Townes Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Ruby Shreve
Ruby Mae Jennings Shreve, 75, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, May 18, 1997.
Mrs. Shreve was a member of the Roanoke Church of Christ and was retired from the Roanoke City Police Department after 20 years of service.
She was the widow of T. Archie Shreve and is survived by her son, Philip W. Shreve of Roanoke; her daughter, Julia A. Shreve of Salem; and her granddaughter, Jessica J. Smith of Salem.
The funeral service was held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel on Wednesday, May 21, 1997, at noon by Keith S. Wagner, who was the officiating minister. Interment
followed in Sherwood Memorial Park.
Melvin Culley
TEMPLE HILLS, Md. - Melvin Ray Culley, 56, 3225 28th Street Parkway, died Friday, May 16, 1997, in Greater South East Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Born Aug. 12, 1940, in Danville, Va., he was a son of Elbert Lee Culley and Georgianna Wilson Culley, who survives.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include a son, Andre Grasty of Washington, D.C.; four brothers, James Culley and Raleigh Culley, both of Washington, D.C., the Rev. Harrison Culley of Ringgold, Va., and Clinton Culley of Danville; and a sister, Joanne Garland of Blanch, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday from East New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Harrison Culley. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park in Danville.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother, 343 Airport Drive, Danville.

Robert Holliness Jr.
Robert Holliness Jr., 46, 237 Winslow St., died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 8, 1950, in Danville, he was a son of Robert Holliness Sr. and Viola Dixon Harrison, who survives.
He was employed by Sunstate Maintenance Co. for many years.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Celestine Motley and Faleshia Warner, both of Danville, and Alexis Cobbs of Pennsylvania; two sons, Robert Holliness III and Cecil Tremaine Ray Holliness, both of Danville; eight brothers, Franklin Holliness of Milton, N.C., and Edward Glass, Curtis Artist, Willie T. Holliness, Jerome Holliness, Damon Holliness, Joseph Holliness and Marcellus Crews, all of Danville; a stepbrother, Ivory Harrison of Danville; two sisters, Violet Holliness and Mary Warner, both of Danville; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. today from Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Samuel Griffith. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
