Jeremiah Farmer Jr.
Jeremiah Farmer Jr., 49, 2197 Malmaison Road, died Monday, May 26, 1997, in MCV Hospital in Richmond.
Born Sept. 22, 1947, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Jeremiah Farmer Sr., who survives, and Mary Rodgers Farmer.
In addition to his father and stepmother, Luzetta Farmer, both of Blairs, survivors include a son, Mario Farmer of Danville; a stepson, Franklin Gunter of Danville; three sisters, Willy Womack and Dale Lipford, both of Blairs, and Barbara Anderson of Danville; a brother, Andre Farmer of Blairs; and several stepsisters and stepbrothers.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Thomas R. Brooks. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will friends at the residence of a sister, Dale Lipford, 2060 Malmaison Road, Blairs.
Alma Finch
HURT - Alma Doss Haden Finch, 85, 4831 Wards Road, died Thursday, May 29, 1997, in her residence.
Born Nov. 29, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Charles Anderson and Eliza Roach Doss.
She was married
twice, first to Fuller Haden, who predeceased her, and later to Hubert J. Finch, who is also deceased.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Altavista Loan Co.
She was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 118.
She is survived by a brother, Roy L. Doss of Danville.
She was also predeceased by a sister, Kathleen E. Patterson, and a brother, Carl Edwin Doss.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday in Gretna Burial Park by the Rev. Ruth Burgess.

Albert Phillipson
CHATHAM - Albert Phillipson, 89, 26 Whittle St., died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, in his residence.
Born May 13, 1908, in New York, he was a son of Samuel Phillipson and Henrietta Lowe Phillipson.
He was married
to Nancy J. Phillipson, who survives.
He was a member of Chatham Presbyterian Church.
He attended Dartmouth College, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
For 60 years, he served as a special agent for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Jane P. Peterson of Wilmington, N.C.; six grandchildren, Jane Dray, Carol Bois, Alison Guidera, Charles E. Peterson, William A. Peterson and Leslie Jane Turi; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Tredway P. deGroot; and Charles Vanderbilt III.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday in Chatham Burial Park by the Rev. Walker Pettyjohn.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Rosie Raynor
Rosie Hardy Raynor, 82, died Thursday, May 29, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home, following several years of declining health.
Born Dec. 14, 1914, she was a daughter of Charles Hardy and Sadie Lovelace Hardy.
She was married
to Clarence Raynor, who predeceased her.
She spent most of her life in the Danville area, where she was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Millner of Vernon Hill; three sons, Bobby Raynor of Danville, Dewey Raynor of South Boston and Donald Raynor of Vernon Hill; three sisters, Hester Epps of South Boston, Elsie Walker of Martinsville and Violet Maxfield of Maryland; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Simmie Smith
CHATHAM - Simmie Smith, 82, 5716 Strawberry Road, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 4, 1914, in South Carolina, he was a son of William and Hattie Smith Sr.
He was married
to Geneva Woody, who predeceased him.
He was employed by Bassett Furniture for many years.
He is survived by a son, William C. Smith of Danville, and a daughter, Hattie Smith of Alexandria.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Tarpley's Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert L. Divins Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ervin Talbard
Ervin Lacy Talbard, 69, of Danville and formerly of Winnabow, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 24, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of James William and Menla Hammock Talbard.
He was married
to Virginia M. Talbard, who survives.
He was in the bakery industry for many years and retired from Holsom Bakery in 1982.
In addition to his wife of Wilmington, N.C., survivors include two daughters, Betsy Talbard and Nancy Talbard, both of Kentucky; a brother, Thomas Talbard of Danville; five sisters, Helen Guill, Minnie Lynch, Barbara Page, Virginia Rice and Dora Walton, all of Danville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, William Talbard, who died in December 1996.
A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. today in Greenlawn Memorial Park by Dr. Ralph Holt.

Floscelia Taylor
Floscelia Evelyn Taylor, 92, 437 Van Buren St., died Monday, May 26, 1997, in her residence.
Born May 14, 1905, in Danville, she was a daughter of Jerry Witcher Taylor and Sallie Craft.
She was employed as a teacher by the Danville School System.
She was a member of AKA Sorority Inc., Buds of Unity Tent No. 423, and Danville Business Women's Club.
She was also a member of First Baptist Missionary Church, where she was a deaconess and a member of the Missionary Society.
She is survived by a foster sister, Ruth Tucker of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from First Baptist Missionary Church by the Rev. J.P. Griffith. Burial will be in Crooktown cemetery in Danville.
The body may be viewed 4-8 tonight at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Edward Anderson
Edward Lee Anderson, 75, 119 James Road, died Friday, May 30, 1997, in his residence.
Born June 7, 1921, in Halifax County, he was a son of Perlie W. Anderson and Mary Myrtle Smart Anderson.
On Nov. 25, 1979, he was married
to Peggie Carter Anderson.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Diamond Paper Co. He was also a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Gerald Wayne Anderson of Danville; a brother, James R. Anderson of Danville; two sisters, Eunice A. Wells of Danville and Catherine A. Elliott of Dry Fork; a stepson, Frederick R. Carter Jr. of Danville; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Beth Hindes of Westerville, Ohio; one grandchild; and two stepgrandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. William Blalock. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Darnella Arnold
Darnella R. Arnold, 67, 614 Boswell St., died Thursday, May 29, 1997, in Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
She was a daughter of John R. and Annie Bryant Richardson.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn W. Turner of Collinsville and Patricia W. "Patti" Lynch of Eden, N.C.; a son, Edward William Arnold; three sisters, Juanita Robertson of Venice, Fla., Cleo Bocock of Patrick Springs and Rachel V. Jamerson of Martinsville; two brothers, Jack Harold Richardson of Bassett and David C. Richardson of Ringgold; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Michael Wayne Arnold.
The funeral will be conducted 5 p.m. Sunday from Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel in Eden by the Rev. Bobby Haynes. Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday in Ridgeview cemetery in Eden.
The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of a daughter, 816 Klyce St., Eden.
