Addie Aaron
Addie Merricks Aaron, 91, formerly of the Mount Cross community, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born March 12, 1905, in the Callands community of Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of John Merricks and Patty Eanes Merricks.
She was married
to George H. Aaron Sr., who died in 1986.
She spent most of her life in the Mount Cross community, where she was a homemaker. She had been a resident of the nursing home for the past four years.
She was also a member of Timberlake Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Jewel Saunders and Shirley Adkins, both of Pelham, N.C., Dorothy George and Joyce Angelean Merriman, both of Danville; three sons, Bobby Aaron, George H. Aaron Jr., and Donald Aaron, all of Danville; 35 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three sons, Charlie Aaron, Jack Aaron, and Millard Aaron, and two daughters, Virginia Lashus and Margie Hiatt.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jimmie Pruitt. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of a daughter, Joyce Angelean Merriman, 2264 Orphanage Road.
Eddie Bethel Sr.
Eddie Alexander Bethel Sr., 50, 666 Lee St., died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, in his residence.
Born Sept. 16, 1946, in Danville, he was a son of Lucille Fuller and Thurman Bethel.
He was married
to Annie C. Bethel.
He spent most of his life in Danville. He was employed by Perkins Fountain prior to becoming ill.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony Warner and Eddie Bethel Jr., both of Danville; two daughters, Helena Bethel and Narlene Johnson, both of Danville; two brothers, Herman Bethel of Danville and Sherman Bethel of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Geraldine Spinner of Danville and Thelma Bell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Ann M. Brumfield
Ann Moorefield Brumfield, 52, 2526 North Main St., died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
Born Nov. 6, 1944, in Danville, she was a daughter of Charles Stanley Moorefield, who survives, and Edith Gardner Moorefield.
She spent most of her life in the Keeling community, but had been a resident of Roman Eagle Memorial Home for the past 11 years. She was also a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her father of Keeling, she is survived by two daughters, Kellye B. Smith of Richmond and Tammy B. Howerton of Keeling; a brother, Stan Moorefield Jr. of Keeling; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Tom Erwin. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Vannie Farmer
Vannie Mae Young Farmer, 82, formerly of Holiday Village, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, in Bedford County Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 18, 1914, in Danville, she was a daughter of Dudley Mae Young and Sallie Bet Setliffe Young.
She was married
to William Henry Farmer Sr., who died April 18, 1982.
She spent most of her life Danville, where she was employed by Dan River Inc. as a spinner before retiring. She had been a resident of the nursing home since 1994.
She was also of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include three sons, William Henry Farmer Jr. of Danville, Walter Lee Farmer and Wayne Grant Farmer, both of Lynchburg; and a daughter, Shirley Lovelace of Pelham, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Paul Ray and the Rev. Rick Withrow. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Margaret Fugate
Margaret Collingsworth Fugate, 84, 151 Sunset Place, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, in her residence, following four years of declining health.
Born March 13, 1912, in Rhody, she was a daughter of Edward Collingsworth and Mattie Moore Collingsworth.
She was married
to Elmer Hascue Fugate, who survives.
She spent most of her life in Blackwater and Danville. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Inc. in the 1A Weave Department.
She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three sons, Jack Fugate of Morristown, Tenn., Gene Fugate and Jimmy Fugate, both of Brosville; a daughter, Lois Laws of Danville; a brother, Edward Collingsworth of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Bessie Herron of Dayton, Ohio, and Maude Greever of Kinsport, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. today from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Samuel L. Greeson. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Tom Gentry Sr.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Thomas Melvin "Tom" Gentry Sr., 57, 887 Stonewall Court, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, in Piedmont Medical Center.
Born Oct. 28, 1939, in Elkin, N.C., he was a son of Harvey Eugene and Reba Wood Gentry.
He was married
to Evelyn Beckman Gentry, who survives.
He was employed as an inspector for General Tire Co. and as a former police officer with the Rock Hill Police Department.
He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. He also served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Thomas Melvin Gentry Jr. of DeBary, Fla., John Michael Gentry of Deltona, Fla., Joseph Matthew Gentry and James Brian Gentry, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, Kenneth Gentry of Yanceyville, N.C., and Norman Gentry of Rock Hill; a sister, Bernice Parks of Danville, Va.; and one grandchild.
The Mass of Christian burial will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday from St. Anne's Catholic Church by Father William Pentis. Burial will be in Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.
A Rosary Vigil will be held 7 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, where visitation will be held following the service. The family will also receive friends at the residence.
Charlie Harrington
Charlie R. Harrington, 1035 West Roberts St., died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 17, 1925, in North Carolina, he was a son of Amos and Irene Harrington.
He was married
to Lula Stokes Harrington, who survives.
He was retired from Dan River Mills Inc. and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Mercier, Margie Walton and Peggy Harrington, all of Danville; four sons, Charlie Harrington Jr., Herbert Harrington, Bernell Harrington and George Harrington, all of Danville; a sister, Marie Hampton of Danville; 20 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel by Samuel Griffith. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
Katie Hill
Emma Katie Towler Hill, 78, 450 Piney Forest Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, in Piney Forest Health Care Center, following five years of declining health.
Born Feb. 18, 1919, in Dry Fork, she was a daughter of Walter Towler and Martha Johnson Towler.
On Jan. 24, 1969, she was married
to Gordon Leigh Hill, who survives.
She spent her entire life in Dry Fork and Danville. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Mills Inc. as a battery filler in the No. 1 B Weave Room for 30 years.
She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
In addition to her husband of Danville, she is survived by two sisters, Mabel T. Johnson of Dry Fork and Minnie T. Poytress of Laurenburg, N.C.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Mike Hearp.

Leonard Richardson
Leonard G. Richardson, 86, 2004 North Main St., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 19, 1910, in Charlotte Courthouse, he was a son of Samuel Jacob Richardson and Lucy Bernard Richardson.
He was married
to Louise D. Richardson, who survives.
He was a life-time member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Allen-Barker Sunday school class.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Charles "Chuck" Richardson of Danville; a daughter, Sue R. Bucklew of Laurinburg, N.C.; a brother, Bernard S. Richardson of Danville; a sister, Eva Richardson Motley of Chatham; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Lee Ellison. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Wilma Bivens
RINGGOLD - Wilma Byrd Bivens, 77, Route 2, Box 54, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, in the residence of her daughter. She had been in declining health for two years.
Born Nov. 15, 1919, in North Carolina, she was a daughter of Charles L. Byrd and Josephine Haythe Byrd.
In 1938, she was married
to Henry J. Bivens, who died Jan. 15, 1993.
She spent most of her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County, where she was a homemaker. She was also a member of Roxboro Church of God in North Carolina.
She is survived by a son, David Bivens of Danville; a daughter, Millie B. Hale of Archdale, N.C.; a sister, Barbara Hanks of Providence, N.C.;eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, 304 Clover Lane, Danville.
