Helen Brown
CHATHAM - Helen Holms Land Brown, 78, 310 Peach St., died Friday, Feb.21, 1997, in her residence.
Born Nov. 20, 1918, in Danville, she was a daughter of Alfonza Franklin Land and Martha Evelyn Land.
She was married
to James Edward Brown, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Gwen B. Silva of Pelham, N.H.; a stepson, J.E. Brown Jr. of Montana; a brother, Carlton Land of Salisbury, N.C.; and two sisters, Virginia L. Coles of Chatham and Carolyn L. McGire of Cedar Bluff.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from Emmanuel Episcopal Church by the Rev. John Ruef. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park in Danville.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Randy "Eanis" Eanes WITH PHOTO
Randy "Eanis" Eanes, 40, 156 Silver Creek Court, died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, in Dry Fork.
Born March 9, 1956, in Danville, he was a son of Sam J. Eanes and Juliette Marshall Eanes.
On Aug. 12, 1978, he was married
to Sheila Hines Eanes, who survives.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He spent most of his life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County areas.
He was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for eight years. He was also crew chief of RLH Motor Sports.
He was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a daughter, Amanda Gail Eanes of the residence; a sister, Marie Eanes Dewberry of Danville; and a brother, David "Stretch" Eanes of Chatham.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Gil Hawks and the Rev. Charlie Cundiff. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, where military honors will be performed by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence, off Stony Mill Road.
Delia Grubbs
GALAX - Delia Ann Grubbs, 82, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, in Blue Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born May 3, 1914, in Danville, she was a daughter of Thomas Phillips and Martha Lewis Phillips.
She was married
to the Rev. James C. Grubbs, who predeceased her.
Survivors include three sons, James C. Grubbs Jr. of Billings, Mont., Calvin J. Grubbs of Bensalem, Pa., and Thomas Gene Grubbs of Kimberton, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Anne Grubbs.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Church of God of Prophecy on Baltimore Avenue in Danville by the Rev. Jack Robertson. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.

Morris Hudgins
Morris Allen Hudgins, 77, 231 South Ridge St., Apt. No. 407, died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, in Riverside Health Care Center, following two years of declining health.
Born Nov. 2, 1919, in Halifax County, he was a son of William Dodson Hudgins and Bessie Henderson Hudgins.
On Dec. 16, 1937, he was married
to Ethel Dalton Hudgins, who survives.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a farmer and also worked as a carpenter for Commodore Mobile Homes.
He was also a member of Christian Fellowship Center.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Neal Hudgins of Danville; two daughters, Judy H. Lunsford of Prospect Hill, N.C., and Deborah H. Wiles of Ringgold; three sisters, Dollie Thomas of Franklin, Louise Hill of Danville, and Virginia Henderson of Greensboro, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Allen W. Hudgins.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Neal Isom. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence at Heritage Towers.
Mary Wall
Mary Elizabeth Jones Drumwright Wall, 72, 301 Church St., died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, in her residence, following four years of declining health.
Born Dec. 18, 1924, in Beckley, W.Va., she was a daughter of Posey Jones and Hattie Jones.
She was first married
to Edgar Drumwright, who died in 1970. On April 14, 1973, she was married
to James Oliver Wall, who survives.
She spent most of her life in the Danville area. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Beanies Army and Navy Store for 20 years. She also worked for Hansburger Department Store for many years.
She was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church and a member of the Rebecca Lodge.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Nancy Wilborne of Salem; three sons, David Drumwright, Edgar Drumwright Jr., and William Wayne Drumwright, all of Danville; two sisters, Ann Arthur of Danville and Ida Bowyer of Oak Hill, W.Va.; a brother, Posey Jones Jr. of Bradley, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Keen Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Campbell and the Rev. Tom Wright. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Woodrow Barksdale
JAVA - Woodrow Barksdale, 52, of 456 Keatts Store Road, died Friday night, Feb. 21, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 18, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Thomas and Margaret Grasty Barksdale.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four brothers, Stonewall Barkdale of Washington, D.C.; William Henry Barksdale of Roselle, N.J., Roosevelt Barksdale of Elizabeth City, N.J., and Herman Barksdale of Java; three sisters, Ruby Fitzgerald of Oxon Hill, Md.; Sarah Hamm of Danville, and Mildred Hankins of Virginia Beach.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riceville Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie Walker. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Virginia "Peggy" Carter
Virginia "Peggy" Carter, 77, of 600 Main St., died Sunday evening, Feb. 16, 1997, at her home.
Born April 20, 1919 in Dry Fork, she was the daughter of Claude C. Carter and Erla Ramsey Carter.
She grew up in Charlotte County, where she attended Red House School. She also attended Madison High School.
She was a member of the bible study at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church.
The graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Steve Greer.

Letha Nelson
Letha Lackey Nelson, 91, of 110 Manchester Ave., died Sunday morning, Feb. 23, 1997, in Stratford Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 26, 1905, in Forest, Miss., she was a daughter of Samuel E. Lackey and Mary Blevins Lackey.
She was a graduate of Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. She was a former school teacher, and helped her husband in his tobacco business in Whiteville, N.C.
She was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church and a former member of Beverstone Garden Club.
She is survived by her husband, John H. Nelson of the home; a daughter, Mary N. Bolton and son-in-law, H.W. Stony Bolton Jr., both of Danville; a grandson, Howard W. Bolton III of Danville; a granddaughter, Ellen Bolton Burke of Stickleyville; and three great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Lee Ellison.
The family will be at 110 and 112 Manchester Ave.

Tom Pruitt
RINGGOLD - Tom Pruitt, 84, of 225 Inca Ln., died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at his home. He had been in declining health for two months.
Born Aug. 5, 1912, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of Tom Pruitt and Minnie Pruitt Pruitt.
He spent his entire life in Caswell County, N.C., and Pittsylvania County, where he had been a farmer.
He was of the Methodist faith.
On Dec. 24, 1929, he was married
to Virginia Lee Henderson Pruitt, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Shirley P. Bledsoe and Juanita P. Yancey both of Ringgold; and Virginia P. Whitlow of Alton; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. H. Dale Proctor. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7:30 to 8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times will be at the residence.
