Christina Brown
DRY FORK - Christina Flora Brown, 84, 201 Tobacco Road, died Wednesday March 12, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home, following several years of declining health.
Born Aug. 11, 1912, in Person County, N.C., she was a daughter of John L. Flora and Mary Bland Flora.
On June 4, 1946, she was married
to James Wesley Brown, who died March 17, 1970.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was employed by Dan River Mills Inc., Riverside Division, for several years.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, where she served in the Mary Circle, on the church board, and as chairman of the flower committee.
She had been attending Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Rachel Brown Martin of Dry Fork and Nancy Reynolds Phillippi of Buchanan, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Mount Hermon Baptist Church by the Rev. Don Davidson. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at Mount Hermon Baptist Church, and other times at 217 Tobacco Road, off Route 41.
Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Eva Donevan
SUTHERLIN - Eva Young Donevan, 91, formerly of Route 2, Box 192, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997, in Riverside Health Care Center, following four years of declining health.
Born March 22, 1905, in Danville, she was a daughter of John Henry Young and Fannie Motley Young.
She was married
to Henry Clarence Donevan, who died in 1972.
As a homemaker, she spent her entire life in Caswell and Pittsylvania counties. She was a member of Lea Bethel Baptist Church in Prospect Hill, N.C.
She is survived by two daughters, Velvet Wray Barker of Sutherlin and Laura D. Rush of Trinity, N.C.; a son, Frank T. Donevan of Richmond; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in Lea Bethel Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Claude Harrelson.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence of a daughter, Velvet W. Barker, on Dr. Milams Road, State Route 658, off Route 659 at Laurel Grove.
Rachel Doolin
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Rachel Adkins Doolin, 66, 96 Sir Scott Court, and formerly of Danville, Va., died Tuesday, March 11, 1997, in Atlanta Hospice Center.
Born Dec. 29, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was a daughter of Johnny Dudley Adkins and Ruth Vaughn Adkins.
She was employed as a telephone operator for Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. in Danville for several years. She was also a member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Robert W. Doolin of Lawrenceville and Glenn M. Doolin of Danville; two sisters, Irma Gosney of Danville and Barbara Ann Murphy of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Albert Adkins of Shelby, N.C., and Melvin Adkins of Danville; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Rosa Ferguson, and two brothers, Edward Adkins and Dudley Adkins.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday in Highland Burial Park, Danville, by the Rev. Bennett Shelton.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home, Danville.
Bessie Ferrell
Bessie Glass Ferrell, 84, 1885 Hopewell Road, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997, in her residence.
Born Oct. 22, 1912, she was a daughter of Charlie Glass and Millie Ann Anderson Glass.
She was married
to John Henry Ferrell, who predeceased her.
Survivors include four sons, John Ferrell of Danville, Willie Ferrell of Blairs, and Mack Ferrell and Jack Ferrell, both of Dry Fork; a daughter, Valean Barley of Danville; a brother, Hedley Glass of Blairs; and several grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday from Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Vivian Hancock
SANTA MONICA, CALIF. - Vivian Hunt Hancock, 92, 1438 Oak Ridge Park, died Saturday, March 8, 1997, in Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, following three years of declining health.
Born Oct. 30, 1904, in Danville, Va., she was a daughter of Robert C. Hunt Sr. and Ocela Steele Hunt.
She was married
to S.E. Hancock Sr., who died June 16, 1948.
She had lived in Danville and Richmond, Va.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a housekeeping supervisor for William Byrd Hotel in Richmond. She was also a member of First Methodist Temple Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen H. Lawrence of Santa Monica; two sons, Ira S. Hancock of Salisbury, Md., and Harold O. Hancock of Danville; two sisters, Pattie H. Seay and Annie H. Abbott, both of Danville; a stepsister, Virgie S. Walker of High Point, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Wallace Hancock; and a brother, Robert Hunt Jr.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, Danville, by the Rev. James Lawrence. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Warner Moorefield
ROANOKE - Warner Herald Moorefield, 79, 5517 Darby Road, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, in his residence, following a year of declining health.
Born July 22, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Charles Edgar Moorefield and Lelia Hodnett Moorefield.
He was first married
to Florence Hawkins, who died in 1985. On Aug. 15, 1992, he was married
to Helen Hagood Moorefield, who survives.
He spent 30 years in Atlanta before moving to Roanoke four years ago. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a sales person for ACE Hardware Store. He was also a member of Community Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of Roanoke, survivors include a stepdaughter, Julia Richardson of Woodbridge; a stepson, Keith M. Dodson of Vinton; a sister, Lois M. Booth of Danville; a brother, Stanley Moorefield of Keeling; and four step grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, he was predeceased by a son, Dale Moorefield.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. David Henry. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Mae Robertson
GRETNA - Jennie Mae Chism Robertson, 82, 125 Franklin Blvd., died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, in her residence.
Born Nov. 7, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Benjamin and Viola Mattox Haskins.
She was first married
to Alvin L. Chism, who predeceased her. She was later married
to Roy Robertson, who survives.
She was a member of Round Pond Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by The Lane Co.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three sons, Reuben W. Chism of Lynch Station, Harry W. Chism of Altavista and Roger Chism of Gretna; two daughters, Lorene C. Ferguson of Gretna and Shelby C. Crews of Hurt; five sisters, Lizzie Barbour of Pittsville, Gladys Barbour of Hurt, Hattie Moore of Altavista, Doris Moore of Gretna and Virginia Blankenship of Bassett; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Earnest Haskins, Kermit Haskins and John Haskins; and a sister, Eddie Blankenship.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Round Pond Baptist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Howell, the Rev. John Belderes and Neville Shelton. Interment
will be in Gretna Burial Park.

Ruth Blair
Ruth Inge Blair, 86, formerly of 320 Lansbury Drive, died Friday, March 14, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home, following five years of declining health.
Born Sept. 18, 1910, in Stuart, she was a daughter of Abram Linville Walker and Mary Williams Walker.
She was first married
to Joseph Inge, who died in 1971. She was later married
to Ernest Blair, who died June 9, 1988.
She spent the past 61 years in the Danville area, where she was a homemaker and a member of Canaan Primitive Baptist Church. She had been a resident of the nursing home for eight months.
She is survived by a sister, Jessie Walker Gravely of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Highland Burial Park by Elder Julian Williams.

Dollie Gibson
Dollie Gross Gibson, 89, died Friday, March 14, 1997, in Riverside Health Care Center.
Born July 15, 1907, in Callands, she was a daughter of Daniel Custer and Annie Gross Custer.
She was married
to Saul Gibson, who predeceased her.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Inc. in the 1A weave room for 35 years.
She participated in various activities at the nursing home, where she had been a resident since June 8, 1985. She also attended Gateway Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Robert Gibson of Danville; a half-sister, Mary Moore of Climax; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Townes Funeral Home, and other times at 126 Fairway Drive.
