BASSETT - Lula Turperance Wright, 94, 285 Robinhood Road, died Monday, March 17, 1997, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville/Henry County.
Born Dec. 3, 1902, in Patrick County, she was a daughter of Ira Washburn and Dora Ella Stone Washburn.
She was married
to Robert Lee Wright, who died May 9, 1994.
She was a member of Charity Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mozelle "Ginny" Ingram of Oak Level and Jane Wright Ingram of Martinsville; two sons, Bobby Lee Wright of Huntsville, Ala., and David Elbert Wright of Patrick County; a sister, Lucille Robinson of Danville; two brothers, Rev. Frank Washburn of Danville and Rev. Burl Washburn of Cascade; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Rev. Wasena F. Wright and Robert Milfred Wright.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Collins Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Donald Smith. Burial will be in the Washburn family cemetery in Patrick County.
Mozelle Compton
Mozelle M. Compton, 89, formerly of 2179 Franklin Turnpike, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, in Bern Village at New Bern, N.C.
Born Aug. 14, 1907, in Longdale, N.C., she was a daughter of Tull Washington Morgan and Laurie Harrelson Morgan.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dibrell Brothers Inc. for 34 years. She was also a member of Main Street United Methodist Church for 60 years.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday in Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery in Skipwith by the Rev. Paul Mandel.

Joe Garner
NATHALIE - Joe Garner, 67, 1238 Rabat Road, died Monday, March 17, 1997, in Avante Nursing Home of Lynchburg.
Born Jan. 20, 1930, in Halifax County, he was a son of John Thomas Garner and Susie Rice Garner.
Prior to his retirement due to disability, he was employed by Metaltech Co. in Lynchburg. He was also a member of New Shiloh Baptist Church in Nathalie.
He is survived by a brother, Felix Garner of Nathalie; and two sisters, Mary E. Garner and Equilla Garner, both of Nathalie.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from New Shiloh Baptist Church by Elder William Mosby. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Howard McLaughlin
Howard Will McLaughlin, 83, 245 Belmeade Court, died Monday, March 17, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 11, 1913, in Danville, he was a son of Whitt McLaughlin and Mary Liza Irby McLaughlin.
He was married
to Earner Petty McLaughlin, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include five sons, Howard P. McLaughlin, Melvin D. McLaughlin and Jerry L. McLaughlin, all of Baltimore, Clifton McLaughlin of Atlanta, and Ernest R. McLaughlin of Hyattsville, Md.; five daughters, Bettie J. McLaughlin of Temple Hills, Md., Phyllis A. McLaughlin and Brenda L. McLaughlin, both of Hyattsville, Debra F. McLaughlin of Columbia, Md., and Kathy Johns of the residence; six sisters, Mattie M. Moore, Fannie M. Barley, Jenny M. Allen, Pattie M. Warren, Carolyn M. Harris and Maccie McLaughlin; and two brothers, John McLaughlin of Baltimore and Charlie McLaughlin of Pelham, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas Johnson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Roosevelt Morrison
DRY FORK - Roosevelt J. Morrison, 57, 15284 Mount Cross Road, died Monday, March 17, 1997, in Blue Ridge Nursing Home of Martinsville.
Born March 1, 1940, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Roosevelt Morrison and Lucy Bennett, who survive.
He was married
to Susie Morrison, who survives.
He was employed as a textile worker for Dan River Inc. He was also a member of Guildfield Baptist Church.
In addition to his father of Chatham, his mother of Dry Fork, and his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Rowland Morrison of Huntington, Pa., and Jerome Morrison of Dry Fork; three daughters, Carrie Morrison of Petersburg, Wanda Martin of Dry Fork and Sandra Gravely of Griffin, Ga.; a brother, Jessie Morrison of Dry Fork; two sisters, Frances Walton of Dry Fork and Rosa Martin of Danville; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Guildfield Baptist Church by the Rev. James Cabell and the Rev. H.E. Vann II. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The body may be viewed 4-8 tonight at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home.

Mae Reynolds
CHATHAM - Mae Lawrence Reynolds, 95, 821 Wet Sleeve Creek Road, died Wednesday, March 19, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home of Danville.
Born Jan. 15, 1902, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of William Meredith Lawrence and Maude Hubbard Lawrence.
She was married
to Clarence Leon Reynolds, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday school and played the piano.
Prior to her retirement, she taught for the Pittsylvania County Public School system for 30 years. She was also a school librarian for 10 years.
She graduated from Lynchburg College.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara R. Pickeral of Chatham; three sons, W. Lawrence Reynolds and Clarence M. Reynolds, both of Chatham, and Roscoe F. Reynolds of Danville; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Liberty Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert C. Royal and the Rev. J.D. Hunt III. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park in Danville.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, 821 Wet Sleeve Creek Road, Chatham.

Mary L. Stamps, 57, 344 Ross St., died Saturday, March 15, 1997, in her residence.
Born Jan. 10, 1940, in Danville, she was a daughter of William and Emma Stamps.
She was employed as a textile worker for Dan River Inc. and was a member of Loyal Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother of Danville, survivors include a daughter, Patricia Stamps of Danville; two brothers, Walter Stamps of Vista, Calif., and Larry Stamps of Danville; two sisters, Marion Walton of Sacramento, Calif., and Delores Stamps of Danville; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Loyal Baptist Church by the Rev. Lovelle A. Maxwell Jr. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Annie Womack
VERNON HILL - Annie Barksdale Womack, 96, 2107 Ridge Road, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, in Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born March 14, 1901, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Thomas Dudley Barksdale and Mary Miller Barksdale.
She was married
to Dick C. Womack.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lucille W. Moore of Halifax; a son, Bobby J. Womack of Vernon Hill; a sister, Nannie B. Kates of South Boston; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Mary Louise Womack and Thelma W. Long; three sons, William Thomas Womack, Wilbert C. Womack and Raymond Womack; two brothers, Rufus Barksdale and Charlie Barksdale; and two sisters, Gracie W. Womack and Ola Womack.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Powell Funeral Home Chapel in South Boston by the Rev. Tim Earnhardt. Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Tinsley Brandon
BRONX, N.Y. - Tinsley Brandon, 87, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, in New Rochelle Hospital.
Born Aug. 11, 1909, in Halifax, County, Va., he was a son of Shepherd and Phyllis Brandon.
He was married
to Nancy O'Dorothy Thornton, who predeceased him.
Survivors include six children, Dorothy Jones of Milton, N.C., Tinsley Brandon Jr., Samuel Brandon and Carolyn Brown, all of Bronx, J. Arrelle Brandon of Anchorage, Alaska, and GoDarlene Griffin of Newburg; two sisters, Eliza "Lady" Thomas of Milton and Nannie Brandon of Philadelphia; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday from Greater Brandon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, in Alton, Va. Burial will be in Macedonia A.M.E. Church cemetery, Milton.
The body may be viewed from noon until 8 p.m. today at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel in Semora, N.C.

Frank McCormick
RINGGOLD - Frank M. McCormick, 74, 197 Milton Hwy., died Friday, March 21, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 14, 1922, in Kentuck, he was a son of Oscar B. McCormick and Stella Evans McCormick.
On Jan. 7, 1949, he was married
to Virginia Everett McCormick, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was owner and operator for McCormick's Grocery for 38 1/2 years and a farmer.
He was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Janice M. Randall of Durham, N.C.; a son, Randy McCormick of Santa Clara, Calif.; three brothers, Sam McCormick and George McCormick, both of Kentuck, and Tom McCormick of Danville; and two sisters, Jessie Mae Lindsey of Kernersville, N.C., and Sarah Hardy of Kentuck.
