Easley Milam Sr.

GRETNA - Easley Milam Sr., age 86, of 12657 East Gretna Road, died Thursday, March 27, 1997.

Born Sept. 13, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Abner Giles Milam Sr. and Hallie Worsham Milam.

He was married to the late Kitty Early Milam, who preceded him in death Dec. 7, 1993.

Mr. Milam was a retired mail carrier and farmer. He was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, a member of Polk Lodge No. 61 A.F. & A.M., and also a member of Danville Scottish Rite Bodies.

Survivors include one daughter, Sue Milam Shelton of Gretna; two sons, George E. Milam Jr. of Ringgold and Richard E. Milam of Hurt; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 1997, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church by the Rev. Roger Wilborn and the Rev. R.G. Rowland. Masonic graveside rites will follow by Polk Lodge No. 61 A.F. & A.M. in the church cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gretna Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 14, Gretna, Va., 24557 or St. Andrews United Methodist Church, of Mt. Airy, East Gretna Road, Gretna, Va., 24557.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Colbert-Moran Funeral Home of Gretna is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Webster

Frances East Webster, 70, 729 Arlington Road, died Thursday, March 27, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.

Born March 14, 1927, in Danville, she was a daughter of Thelma Drewery Doughty, who survives, and John Wesley East.

She was married to Arthur J. Webster, who died July 14, 1990.

She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was employed by Dan River Inc. as a weaver before retiring. She was also a member of Druid Hills Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother of Long Beach, N.C., she is survived by two daughters, Kathy High of Ringgold and Wendy Webster of Danville; two grandchildren; one step grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Jerry Webster, who died Aug. 11, 1972.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday in Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. Bill Adams and the Rev. David McGuire.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home.

Pauline Dickerson

Pauline Evelyn Moore Dickerson, 82, 120 Old Piney Forest Road, Lot No. 23, died Friday, March 28, 1997, in Riverside Health Care Center. She had been in declining health for the past year.

Born Sept. 24, 1914, in Prattville, Ala., she was a daughter of Edward Harrison Moore and Dora Maddox Moore.

She had lived in the Danville area, where she was employed as a salesperson in the deli department at K-Mart for eight years before retiring.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a son, William R. Dickerson of Ackworth, Ga.; three sisters, Mabel M. Anderson, Lois Jeffress and Thelma Young, all of Danville; two brothers, Allen Moore and Jesse L. Moore, both of Danville; and four grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister, Imogene M. Quinn.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. John Meadows.

The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence of her sister, 120 Old Piney Forest Road, Lot No. 21.

Keith Kline

RINGGOLD - Mr. Keith George Kline, age 45, of 3080 Rock Springs Road, died at his residence on Thursday evening, March 27, 1997, after a decline in health since January 1996.

Born in Louisiana on Feb. 11, 1952, he was a son of George Willis Kline and the late Thelma Wheeldon Doughty.

He was raised in England by his late grandmother, Jessie Wheeldon.

Mr. Kline was married to Elizabeth Anne Leachman Kline on Aug. 9, 1970.

Mr. Kline spent many years living in Arizona before moving to Ringgold in 1994. He worked for Hickson DanChem Corporation as a health, safety and environmental specialist until he became disabled in 1996.

Mr. Kline was the loving husband to Liz Kline of the residence, and the son of George Kline and the late Thelma Doughty, and stepson to Marilyn Kline and the late Ron Doughty.

He was also a loving father to two sons, Philip George Kline and Simon Keith Kline, both of Tucson, Ariz.; and a brother to Lloyd Vernon and Brian Kline; and to two sisters, Lauren Sims and Luan Penner.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Hospice Support Services Inc., P.O. Box 2713, Danville, Va., 24541 or to the National Federation Cancer Research.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Chapel by the Rev. James W. Mathieson. Interment icon will be private.

Beulah Osborne

CHATHAM - Beulah Yeatts Osborne, 83, 21700 U.S. Hwy. 29, died Friday, March 28, 1997, in her residence.

Born Aug. 22, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James Dameron Yeatts and Alice Pearl Scruggs Yeatts.

She was married to James A. Osborne, who survives.

She was a member of Payneton United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Nancy O. Pickral of Chatham; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Payneton United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Martin, the Rev. Tim Langston and the Rev. James Bullock. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Joseph Bryant

Joseph "Joe" Bryant, 61, of 1361 S. Main St., died March 29, 1997, at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond. He had been in declining health for the past year and had been in the hospital for one week.

Born Nov. 16, 1935, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., he was a son of Kindred Luter Bryant and Myron Beatrice Gaylord Bryant.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean conflict. Bryant spent his early years in Roanoke Rapids and had spent the past 32 years in Danville. He was employed as a salesman by Sears Roebuck and Co.

Bryant was of the Methodist faith.

He was married to Marie Warren Bryant, who survives.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Joseph M. Bryant Jr. of Danville; one daughter, Eva Marie Bryant of Danville; two brothers, Calvin Bryant of High Point, N.C., and Carlon Bryant of Richmond; and one sister, Martha Oakes of Danville.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Roy W. Newton. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Herman Cook

Herman D. "Pop" Cook, 92, of 61 Carlson Ave., died March 28, 1997, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born July 6, 1904, in Caswell County, he was a son of John Washington Cook and Lula Coleman Cook.

He made his home in Danville for more than 60 years, where he was employed at Dan River Inc. for 53 years before retiring at 65. He also was a farmer.

Cook was of the Holiness faith and a member of the Odd Fellows at Schoolfield.

The last of his generation of the family, Cook was predeceased by his wife, Nannie Wade Cook, who died in 1991. He also was predeceased by two sons, Clyde Cook and Luther Cook.

Survivors include one daughter, Violet Cook Wyles of the residence; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. Monday at Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. Curtis Cook and the Rev. Billy Hamlett.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Glendine Goldman

Glendine Robertson Goldman, formerly of 31 Longview Ave., died March 29, 1997, at Riverside Health Care Center.

Born In Rockingham County, N.C., she was a daughter of Glen W. Robertson and Allie Sue Ramsey Lumpkin.

Goldman had spent most of her life in the Danville and Newport News areas.

She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.

Survivors include four sons, Robert E. "Bob" Mayes Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., Garland Lee Mayes of Los Angeles, the Rev. Rodger Neal Mayes of Newport, N.C., and Ronald Alvis Mayes of Petersburg; one brother, Arnold Grey Robertson of Norman, Okla.; one sister, Hope Hampton Biggs of Petersburg; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Fred Wade.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home.

Thomas Houser Jr.

KEELING - Thomas Presley Houser Jr., 73, of 3141 Bennett Circle, died March 29, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for six months.

Born June 2, 1923, in Lincoln County, N.C., he was a son of Thomas Presley Houser Sr. and Wilma Beal Houser.

He had lived most of his life in the Keeling community of Pittsylvania County. Houser was retired from the Danville Public School system where he taught Social Studies at George Washington High School for 36 years. He served as an assistant principal for eight years at George Washington High School and was the sports voice for the school for 20 years.

Houser worked with the C.C.C. in Oregon for one year.

He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Houser was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force in Brazil during World War II. Before college, he was with the Civil Service in Washington, D.C., and Trenton, N.J.

He attended Malmaison Primitive Baptist Church.

On Aug. 25, 1951, he married Naomi Williams Houser.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Thomas Presley Houser III of Bassett, and Scott Houser of Spring Hope, N.C.; two daughters, Debra H. Roberts of Gaithersburg, Md., and Donna H. Houser of Midlothian; three sisters, Evelyn H. Hoover, Mary H. Bess, and Faye H. Self, all of Lincoln County, and 11 grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover chapel by the Elder Kenneth R. Key. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover chapel and other times at the residence.
