John Toler
John Lee Toler, 62, 132 Benefield St., died Friday, April 11, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 7, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Ernest Emerson Toler and Betty Mary Mitchell Toler.
On July 2, 1983, he was married
to Jean Turner Toler, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a security guard at Danville Community College for the past 15 years.
He was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include two sons, Ricky L. Toler of Danville and Robert N. Toler of Virginia Beach; three daughters, Debra T. Oakes and Tina Burnett Haydon, both of Danville, and Tammy T. Carter of Raleigh, N.C.; two stepchildren, Cynthia Turner of Danville and Freddie L. Keith of Pelham, N.C.; a brother, Alfred E. Toler of Danville; three sisters, Frances T. Hazelwood, Iris T. Griffith and Margie T. Spencer, all of Danville; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and six step grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Joe Beck and the Rev. Charles Cumbow. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence and at 223 Forestdale Drive.
Clarence Barton Sr.
Clarence Barton Sr., 64, 1463 Aspen St., died Thursday, April 10, 1997 in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 25, 1932, in Polk County, N.C., he was the son of Mamie Barton.
He was a railroad laborer.
He was a member of New Hope Apostolic Church.
Survivors include four sons, Johnny Barton of Ft. Washington, Md., Daniel Barton of Alexandria, Clarence Barton Jr. of Oxen Hill, Md. and Ricky DeShazor of Silver Springs, Md.; two daughters, Dorthea Barton of Alexandria and Patricia Murphy of Danville; two sisters, Carol Johnson of Danville and Gloria Mason of New York; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday from New Hope Apostolic Church by Bishop Major Hairston. Interment
will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
He may be viewed from 4-8 p.m. today at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of Carol Johnson, 142 New St.
Susie Ferrell
BLAIRS - Susie Davis Ferrell, 73, of 1109 Maison Drive, died Thursday, April 10, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 8, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Edward Glass and Sallie Davis. She was married
to Charlie Jessie Ferrell, who survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Sylvannah White of Blairs; two brothers, William Davis and Lonnie Davis, both of Danville; three sisters, Mary Jane Hood, Lillie Betty Davis and Geraldine Luck, all of Danville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Laurel Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. James Cabell Jr. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Ivonne Hammond
Ivonne "Tillie" Thompson Hammond, 81, of 4068 Reeves Mill Road, in the Laurel Grove community, died Saturday, April 12, 1997, in her home. She had been in declining health for two years.
Born Dec. 5, 1915, in Loucomma, N.C., she was a daughter of Loel Thompson and Bertie Royal Thompson.
She was a retired beautician.
She was married
to James I. Hammond, who died in September 1986.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Bobby Price of Danville; one daughter, Nancy Motsinger of Laurel Grove; one sister, Madge Thompson of Richmond; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family is at the residence, 4068 Reeves Mill Road.

Joseph Moorefield
Joseph Clarence Moorefield, 78, of 224 Courtland St., Apt. 233, died Friday, April 11, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been a patient in the hospital for 10 days.
Born Feb. 13, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Claiborne White Moorefield and Fanny Lou Slayton Moorefield.
He lived most of his life in the Danville area.
He worked for a number of years as a security guard at Dan River Inc. He retired on disability at age 62.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army.
He was a member of First Church of the Brethern.
He was married
to Virginia Payne Moorefield, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three step-sons, Melvin Oakes, James D. Oakes Jr. and Leon W. Oakes, all of Danville; one sister, Katie Cocke of Danville; seven step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Dale Watson. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 224 Courtland St., Apt. 233.
Joseph Passantino
NORFOLK - Joseph Passantino, 67, of the 900 block of Magnolia Ave., died Saturday, April 12, 1997 in DePaul Medical Center.
Born in Palermo, Italy, he received his medical degree cum laude from the University of Palermo. He completed his anesthesiology residency in New York, N.Y., and practiced in Danville and Montreal, Canada, before moving to Norfolk in 1966.
He was a member in good standing of the Southern Medical Association and the Norfolk Academy of Medicine. He was on the staff of DePaul Medical Center, Sentara Norfolk General, Sentara Leigh and Chesapeake General Hospitals until retiring in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Carlene Stone Passantino; a daughter, Sylvia Passantino of Norfolk; a son, Stuart Passantino of Richmond; a brother, Carlo Passantino; and three sisters, Enza D'Maggio, Graziella Passantino and Maria Pia Passantino, all of Palermo.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 7 p.m. Monday in St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Virginia Beach by Fr. James M. Noto. Interment
will be in Mt. Carmel cemetery, Reidsville, N.C., on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the church.
Sally Pollok
Sally Kate Pollok, 97, died Saturday, April 12, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born May 22, 1899, she was a daughter of Ferdinand Lanier Pollok and Sally Thomas Pollok.
She had lived most of her life in Lynchburg. She became a resident of Danville in 1988.
She was employed by Appalachian Power Co. from 1925-64. She retired from there as a senior cashier.
She was a member of Court Street United Methodist Church in Lynchburg. She attended Blackstone Women's College and Averett College.
She was predeceased by six brothers, W.E. Pollok, John Pollok, Ferd Pollok Jr., George Pollok, James Pollok and Robert Pollok.
Survivors include four sisters, Virgie P. Clark, Elsie P. Harper and Agnes P. Mitchell, all of Danville and Anne P. Hemmings of Abingdon; four brothers, Collins Pollok of Danville, Harold Pollok and Harry Pollok, both of Whitmell and William Pollok of Gladys.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. George Riggins and the Rev. William H. Pollok.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of Harry and Harold Pollok, 3137 Whitmell School Road.
Frank Strickler
CHESTERFIELD - Frank N. Strickler, 71, formerly of Danville, died Saturday, April 12, 1997.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred A. Strickler; one daughter, Sandra S. Barnes; one son, Frank W. Strickler; two brothers, Roy M. Strickler and Gerald D. Strickler; three sisters, Sally Bobbit, Betty Mae Jones and Nell Carper; five grandchildren and two great grandsons.

Addie Wade
CLOVER - Addie "Roy" Lindsey Wade, 71, died Saturday, April 12, 1997.
Born April 30, 1925, in Covington, he was a son of Addie Wade and Ida Mae Lacks Wade.
He was a farmer and a retired textile worker at Clover Yarns. He served in the Army during World War II.
He attended the Church of God. He was a former member of the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth N. Wade of Clover; three sons, Craig Leroy Wade of Richmond; Addie J. Wade of Danville; and Lindsy Owen Wade of Sanford, N.C.; one daughter, Selia A. Lacks of Clover; one sister, Mary Duffey of Randolph; one brother, Tommy Wade of Clover;13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from Red Level Independent Church of God by the Rev. Bill Wilkins. Burial will take place in Clover cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Brooks Funeral Home.
Linberg Anderson
Linberg Tiny Anderson, 41, of 821 Pritchett Ln., Blairs, died Wednesday, April 9, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 2, 1955, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Johnny Anderson and Nonie Whithead Anderson.
He was married
to Kathy Kirby Anderson, who survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Avery Kirby and Lin DeVonta Anderson; one daughter, Latoya Anderson, all of Danville; two brothers, John Thomas Anderson and Albert Anderson both of Danville; and nine sisters, Phyllis Womack of Baltimore; Shirley Parker of Fredericksburg; Violeen Thomas, Eturley Dixion, Florence Stone and Doris Whitcher all of Danville; Emily Waller, Zelbra Bennette and Audrey Parker all of Blairs.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Shochoe Baptist Church by the Rev. G.H. Pass. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
