Hester Hardy
RINGGOLD - The funeral for Hester Mildred Hardy, 89, 413 Raven Hollow Road, will be conducted 4 p.m. today from Barker Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Danny Parker and the Rev. David Henry. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
She died Sunday, Dec. 29, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 10, 1907, in Keeling, she was a daughter of James Washington Hardy and Nettie Ann Lewis Hardy.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Belk Leggett as a salesperson for 20 years. She attended Old Mill Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by a brother, William M. Hardy of Ringgold; and three sisters, Ethel H. Slaughter and Mabel A. Hardy, both of Ringgold, and Gracie H. Alderson of Sutherlin.
The family will receive friends 2-3:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Dolores Hayden
Dolores-Vernelle Bryant Hayden, 72, 236 Westover Drive, died Monday, Dec. 30, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 19, 1924, in Dodson, she was a daughter of Jesse T. Bryant and Lou Ellen Hale Bryant.
She was married
to Charlie Louis "Jack" Hayden Jr., who survives.
She was a graduate of Leaksville High School in Eden, N.C., and Stratford College in Danville.
Prior to her retirement in 1985, she was employed by Thalhimer's stores in Danville as personnel director. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Bobby L. Hayden of Norfolk and Thomas D. Hayden of Virginia Beach; a brother, W. Jack Bryant of Eden, N.C.; two sisters, Goldie B. Amos and Flora B. Berry, both of Eden, N.C.; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday from Christ Episcopal Church. Burial will be held 2 p.m. Friday in the Lawson cemetery in Eden, N.C.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the residence.

Nannie King
A graveside service for Nannie Sue Solomon King, 92, 2526 N. Main St., and formerly of East Thomas Street, will be conducted 11 a.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Fred Cox.
She died Monday, Dec. 30, 1996, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home, following several years of declining health.
Born May 7, 1904, in Danville, she was a daughter of Charles Thomas Solomon and Esther Mitchell Solomon.
She spent her life in Danville. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a matron by Hughes Memorial Home and Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
She is survived by three grandchildren, L. Frank King Jr. of Danville, Nancy A. King of Culver City, Calif., and Keith King of Callaway, Md.; a step grandchild, J.D. Weeks of Columbus, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by a son, Lonnie Franklin King Sr.
The family will receive friends at the residence of a grandson, L. Frank King Jr., 203 Laurel Woods Drive, Danville.

Joe Law
Joe Lewis Law, 58, 684 Sugartree Church Road, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 16, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Henry Thomas Law and Mary F. Lipford.
He was married
to Barbara Law, who survives.
He was employed by Hooker Furniture Co. He was a member of Union Hall Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Michael Law of Chatham, Marvin Law of Cascade and Major Law of the residence; three brothers, Thomas Law of Philadelphia, Leamond Law of Danville and Donnie Kent Law of New York; eight sisters, Gracie Newton, Dorothy Robinson and Gwen Law, all of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Tina Bradshaw of Middletown, N.Y., Leslie Law of The Bronx, N.Y., Kathy Peterson of Monongela, Pa., Priscilla Law and Teresa Law, both of Danville; and his stepmother, Ester Law of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Union Hall Baptist Church by the Rev. Sherman Craft. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body may be viewed 4-8 p.m. today at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Route 851, Danville.
Larry Pappas
Larry John Pappas, 76, 153 Kenilworth Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1996, in Duke University Medical Center.
Born March 1, 1920, in Karpenisi, Greece, he was a son of John Pappas and Renna Pappas.
He was married
to Lillian Kalezis Pappas, who survives.
He had lived in Danville since 1937. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. Following the war, he returned to Danville and became co-owner of Busy Bee Cafe on North Union Street until 1968. He was later employed with Tuscarora Country Club and American Legion Post No. 1097.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two sons, John L. Pappas of Columbia, S.C., and James L. Pappas of Pittsboro, N.C.; a daughter, Katherine Pappas Smith of Danville; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Saint Peters Greek Orthodox Church by Father Thomas Ninnis. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery, where full military honors will be given by American Legion Post No. 325 Honor Guard.
A Trisagon prayer service will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Townes Memorial Chapel by Father Thomas Ninnis. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the residence.
Irene Abbott
The graveside service for Irene Wooldridge Abbott, 85, of 441 Piney Forest Road, will be conducted 2 p.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Daryl S. Joyce.
She died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at her home. She had been in declining health since April.
Born July 9, 1911, in Campbell County, she was a daughter of Thomas Wooldridge and Fannie Moore Wooldridge.
She was married
to Floyd Abbott, who died May 22, 1974.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was co-owner and operator of Abbott's Grocery on Union Street.
She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include nieces and nephews.
The family will be at the residence of her niece, Virginia Gregory, 209 Iris St.

Sarah Carr
The funeral for Sarah Badham Carr, 81, of 310 Sutherlin Place, will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany by Father James Mathieson. Burial will be in the church columbarium.
She died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 21, 1915, in Edenton, N.C., she was the daughter of Richard Paxton Badham and Emily Wood Badham.
On Oct. 22, 1938, she was married
to Charles Albert Carr, who died Dec. 27, 1990.
She graduated from St. Mary's College in 1934.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, where she was a past president of the Episcopal Church Women.
She was a member of The Wednesday Club, the Ladies Benevolent Society, the Danville Museum, the Garden Club of Danville and the Colonial Dames of Southern Virginia.
Survivors include one son, Charles A. Carr Jr. of Danville; two daughters, Sarah P. Carr of Cambridge, Mass., and Jamie Sheppard Carr of Danville; one sister, Emily Wood Coxe of Darlington, S.C.; one brother, Richard P. Badham Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Douglas Rigney
MARTINSVILLE - Douglas MacArthur Rigney, 54, of 1437 S. Askins St., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born June 7, 1942, in Franklin County, he was a son of Leslie Rigney and Irene Rigney.
He was employed at W.M. Bassett Co.
Survivors include a son, Linwood Rigney of Martinsville; a step-son, Steve Rigney, and a step-daughter, Becky Watts both of Martinsville; two brothers, Maynard Leslie Rigney and Rollie Junior Rigney, both of Gretna; one sister, Betty Tuggle of Martinsville; one grandchild and three step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Lance Rigney.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Dr. Dillard K. Lykins. Interment
will be in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 tonight at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence.
Winfred Tuck
GRETNA - Winfred Junior Tuck, 69, of 608 Leftwich St., died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997.
Born Nov. 13, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Harvey L. Tuck and Elva George Tuck.
He was a retired employee with the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Willis Tuck of the residence; one son, Terry Tuck of Gretna; one daughter, Elaine McDaniel of Gretna; two brothers, Lindy Tuck and Harold Tuck, both of Pittsville; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gretna Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Jerry Blevins and the Rev. Joe Glass. Interment
will be in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Waldron Weible
A private graveside service for Waldron W. Weible, 75, formerly of 209 Murphy Circle, was held 11 a.m. Saturday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Irvin Hall.
He died Thursday, Jan. 2, 1997, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born March 2, 1921, in Winside, Neb., he was the son of Fredrick Weible and Helen Hoffman Weible.
Since his retirement in 1960 from the U.S. Air Force, he had lived in Danville. He retired with the rank of chief master sergeant after 21 years of service. He served during World War II and the Korean War.
He was married
to Hazel Porter Weible, who predeceased him in April 1992.
Survivors include two brothers, Norris F. Weible of Wayne, Neb. and Donald G. Weible of Winside, Neb.; two sisters, Irene W. Ditman of Winside and Betty W. Potter of Columbus, Neb.
