Ronnie Newsome Sr.
Ronnie Lee Newsome Sr., 44, 244 Old Greensboro Road, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, in Duke Medical Center, following a decline in health over the last month.
Born May 27, 1952, in Danville, he was a son of James R. Newsome and Myrtle Underwood Newsome.
He spent his entire life in Danville where he was a graduate of Steele's Welding School. He was a welder and former employee of the City of Danville in Public Works.
He was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church.
He married
Sandra Walker Newsome on Dec. 19, 1969.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include his parents of Danville; one sister, Phyllis N. McDowell of Milton, N.C.; one brother, James R. Newsome Jr. of Danville; and one grandchild.
He was predeceased by a son, Ronnie Lee Newsome Jr.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Daniel G. Lackey and Rev. Daryl Joyce. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Artis Prillaman Jr.
MARTINSVILLE - Artis Wayne Prillaman Jr., 35, of 74 Yeatts Road, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Henry Co., he was a graduate of Laurel Park High School and High Point University in High Point, N.C.
He worked as transportation manager of Hayce Micro Computer Corp. in Atlanta, Ga., where he retired in 1994.
A dedicated AIDS activist, he was president of Brass; vice president of the Ryan White Consortium; vice chairman of the West Piedmont AIDS Task Force where he was past support group facilitator.
Survivors include his stepfather and mother, James R. and Shirley Bumpus Fink of the residence; stepmother, Mary P. Prillaman of Bassett; four brothers, Kenneth N. Prillaman and Shane Painter, both of Martinsville, Michael S. Prillaman of Jamestown, N.C. and the Rev. Ronald Peal of Bassett; maternal grandparents, the Rev. Thomas H. and Callie Smith Bumpus of Martinsville.
He was predeceased by his father, Artis Wayne Prillaman Sr. in 1994, and his paternal grandparents, Ethel V. and Claude S. Prillaman.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Collinsville by the Rev. Sam Murphy, Rev. Ronald Peal, Rev. Kenneth Hutchins, and Rev. Thomas H. Bumpus. Interment
will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at McKee Funeral Service Chapel in Martinsville followed by a memorial service 8:30-9 p.m. in the funeral chapel being conducted by friends and members of the West Piedmont AIDS Task Force. The family will also receive friends at the residence at other times.

Edna Pugh
A graveside service for Edna Wynn Pugh, 91, 456 Avondale Drive, will be conducted 11:30 a.m. today in Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. M. Dana Hunt.
She died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, in Piney Forest Health Care Center, where she had resided for the past four months.
Born July 21, 1905, in North Carolina, she was a daughter of Jesse V. Wynn and Rose Weatherman Wynn.
She was married
to Edwin T. Pugh, who died March 6, 1989.
She was a graduate of Blackstone College. Prior to her marriage, she was employed as a teacher. She and her husband lived in New York until returning to Danville in 1975.
She was a member of Schoolfield United Methodist Church, where she was active in women's activities. She was also engaged in local social work.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Pugh Floyd of Danville; five sisters, Lyll Yates, Gay Smith, Clarice Harris and Lorraine Vernon, all of Danville, and Margie Schwartz of Silver Springs, Md.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Ray Wynn, Norman Wynn and Vernon Wynn; and by one sister, Myrtle Post.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Gladys Reynolds
The funeral for Gladys Lewis Reynolds, 82, 134 Westmoreland Court Apt. 2-A, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Ron W. Mateer and the Rev. Carl E. Burger. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
She died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at her residence, following several years of declining health.
Born Dec. 15, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Daniel Lewis and Betty Terry Lewis.
She was first married
to Woodrow Shelton, who predeceased her. She was then married
to Morris Clark Reynolds, who died Nov. 9, 1976.
She spent her life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. She was a graduate of the former Spring Garden High School.
Prior to her retirement in 1990, she was employed by Rippe's as a sales clerk for 28 years.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service.
She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Ann Reynolds of Durham, N.C.; one sister, Nellie L. Moore of Ringgold; and two brothers, Edgar Lewis of Yorktown and Gordon Lewis of Modesta, Calif.
In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by a son, Morris Clark Reynolds Jr.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Dorothy Rich
The funeral for Mrs. Dorothy Bassett Rich, 413 Hawthorne Drive, will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday from Mount Vernon United Methodist Church by the Rev. John LeGault Jr. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
She died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, in Palm Beach, Fla.
Born July 29, 1909, in Bassett, she was a daughter of Charles Columbus Bassett and Roxie Hundley Bassett.
She was married
to Hal C. Rich Sr., who died June 23, 1957.
She attended Salem College.
She was a member of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Garden Club of Virginia, Garden Club of Danville, Danville Golf Club, the Four Arts in Palm Beach, Fla., Everglades Club in Palm Beach and Sailfish Club in Palm Beach.
She was also a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.
She is survived by four grandchildren, Dorothy Leigh Williamson of Atlanta, Hal C. Rich III of Brandywine, Md., Virginia Rich Meder and H. Nelson Rich, both of Danville; and five great-grandchildren.

Timothy Smith
Timothy Glenn Smith, 39, 2505 Oak Hill Road, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, in the Veteran's Hospital in Durham, N.C.
Born Feb. 7, 1959, in Leaksville, N.C., he was a son of Louise Cannon Smith of Danville.
He had served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard.
He was a retired worker with the United States Postal Service.
He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
He was married
to Sharon Hairston Smith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Tianna Smith of Danville, and Jessica Andrade of El Paso, Texas; one son, Timothy Smith Jr. of Danville; one brother, William Smith of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Cascade by the Rev. John Tinsley. Interment
will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Dixie Connor
Laura Dixon Green "Dixie" Connor, 77, of 241 Lady Astor Place, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born May 30, 1919, in Boiling Springs, N.C., she was a daughter of Maude Osborne Greene and Garland Manning Greene.
She was educated in the Boiling Springs public schools and graduated from Limestone College with a bachelor of arts degree.
On Nov. 18, 1941, she was married
to Roy Lee Connor, who survives.
She had lived in Danville since 1957, and was a member of First Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, of the residence, she is survived by one daughter, Laura Connor Lowe of Arlington, Texas; two sons, Lee Osborne Connor of Springfield and Michael P. Connor of Gainesville, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
The memorial service will be conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Joe Northen and Christine Gregory.
Interment will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church Cemtery in Boiling Springs, N.C.
The family will receive friends 7:30 to 9 tonight at Townes Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence.
Jerry Dalton
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jerry L. Dalton, 60, of 2792 Black Gap Road, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at Piney Mountain Nursing Home, Fayetteville.
Born Aug. 12, 1936, in Danville, Va., he was a son of Tony S. and Janie M. Overcash Dalton.
He was a 1954 graduate of George Washington High School, and attended the Danville extension of Virginia Tech for two years.
He was a district salesman with Zenith Corp. for several years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
On June 27, 1959, he was married
to Barbara Wallace Dalton, who survives.
In addition to his wife, of Chambersburg, survivors include a son, Michael Wallace Dalton of Schenectady, N.Y.; two brothers, Pat Dalton of South Boston, Va., and Garland Dalton of Washington state.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Lee Dalton Jr., who died in 1980.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, by the Rev. Dr. Neal O. Hively. Interment
will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
