Kelly Earlyne West, 40, of Charlottesville, formerly of Gordonsville, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at her residence. She was born September 23, 1963 in Takoma Park, Maryland.
Kelly was an Ultra Sound Technician at the Martha Jefferson Hospital. She did volunteer work for the Charlottesville Pregnancy Center for many years. Kelly was a graduate of Radford University, attended the University of Virginia Radiology School and specialized in Ultra Sound.
She is survived by her parents, Robert Minta West and step mother, Frances.

Steve Daniel Combs, 53, of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away at Culpeper Regional Hospital, Sunday, December 5, 2004. Steve was born to Edger Gilbert Combs and Iva May Weakley Combs on October 26, 1951 in Quantico, Virginia. He worked for Motion Control Industries in Fredericksburg as a maintenance and electrical engineer. Steve was devoted to his family, enjoyed camping, fishing, loved the beach and was an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife Betty Ann Rupard Combs of Culpeper, his children Garron Combs of Arlington, Virginia and Brittany Combs of Culpeper, Virginia, a sister Suzan Mastin of Fredericksburg, Virginia and a brother David Combs of Lignum. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Michael Combs.
Funeral services will be held at Bethel Baptist Church Friday, December 10, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Sandy Martin conducting the service. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Violet Angela Morrison, 87, of Stevensburg, Virginia passed away Monday, December 6, 2004 at Warrenton Overlook Health & Rehabilitation, Warrenton, Virginia. Violet was born September 26, 1917 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Robert Rumney and Albirta Readmond Rumney and was the widow of Lewis C. Morrison.
Mrs. Morrison was a unit manager at Fairfax Hospital, a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and a former member of the Stevensburg Homemaker’s Club.
Surviving Violet is her daughter, Amanda M. Sturgeon and her husband Lonny of Stevensburg, her son, Robert Morrison of Apex, North Carolina, three grandchildren, Kyle Sturgeon of Stevensburg, Megan Sturgeon of Stevensburg, Erin Morrison of Apex, a sister Delores Odenwald of Linthicum, Maryland, an aunt Mary W. Readmond of Washington, D.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 10, 2004, at Precious Blood Catholic Church, 114 E. Edmondson Street, Culpeper, Virginia with Fr. Leo Zonneveld conducting the service. There will be a Christian Wake Service , at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, Virginia at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, December 9, 2004, with the family receiving friends 5:30-7:00 p.m. . Interment will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2004, 9:00 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

Teresa Geil Lair, 46, of Culpeper, Virginia passed away Saturday, January 15, 2004 at
Warrenton Overlook Health & Rehabilitation, Warrenton, Virginia. Tersea was born June 5, 1958 in Fort Rucker, Alabama to Thomas Richard Geil and Maxine Baber Geil. Mrs. Lair was employed by the Rappahannock Welfare League as the manager of the dog kennel. Teresa was a lifetime member of the Culpeper County Volunteer Rescue Squad; active with the Humane Society of Culpeper and a member of Alum Spring Baptist Church.
Teresa is survived by her husband, Kevin Lair of Culpeper, Virginia her daughter, Valerie Tuel of Gainesville, Virginia and her son Justin Lair of Culpeper, Virginia. Also surviving Teresa are her parents, grandchildren, Dajiah, Alivia, Krystonna Iyses Tuel, and her brother Phillip Geil of Baltimore, Maryland.
Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, January 19, 2004 at the Clore-English Funeral Home Chapel, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, Virginia with Rev. John Miller conducting the service. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 18, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

STABLES, JR., Linton D.

Linton D. Stables, Jr., 81, a resident of Culpeper, Virginia, since 1999, died July 16 as the result of an automobile accident near his home. Prior to moving to Virginia he was a 30-year resident of Mission, Texas. He was born on April 23, 1923, in Oak Hall, Virginia, son of the late Reverend and Mrs. Linton D. Stables, Sr.
Mr. Stables was a graduate of Georgia Tech. He served in World War II in the Pacific and later became a career officer in the U.S. Army. For his heroism in the Korean conflict he was awarded the Silver Star and received a Medal of the Purple Heart. He retired from the military in 1968.
Mr. Stables began a new career as a tax preparer and keeper of accounts, doing this until his second retirement in 1998. He was an avid amateur historian, being especially interested in Civil War battles in and around Culpeper. Much of what Mr. Stables learned about local history was gleaned from personal contacts he made with those he met in the course of his daily routines and travel. He was a voracious reader, and his favorite times were when his family and grandchildren were gathered around.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Grey Lazenby Stables; his sons Linton D., III, of New York City; Jeffrey G. of Duluth, Georgia; and Robert E. of Newburyport, Massachusetts; his daughter Nancy K. Marvin of Kingwood, Texas; six grandchildren; and brothers Alfred Gray Stables of Corinth, Mississippi, and Paul F. Stables of Ocean Grove, New Jersey.
A private service will be held in Culpeper, followed by committal at the Culpeper National Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. The Clore-English Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
MINDER, Lois R.

Lois Russell Minder, 85, of Culpeper, Virginia passed away Sunday, January 16, 2005 at the Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center, Culpeper, Virginia. Lois was born December 1, 1919 to Newman Bennett and Lula Lucas in Culpeper, Virginia and retired from Drug Fair and Leggett’s as a sales clerk. Lois also operated as a beautician from her home; was a member of the Culpeper Baptist Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Mrs. Minder was preceded in death by her first husband, J.P. Stover and her second husband, Everett Minder and her parents.
Mrs. Minder is survived by sons; George Stover and his wife Janice and Pete Stover and his wife Shirley all of Culpeper, Virginia. Also surviving Lois are; her brother, Charles Bennett of Culpeper, Virginia; her sister Elsie Anderson of Silverdale, Washington; her grandchildren; Ginger Taylor of Culpeper, Virginia, Mike Stover and his wife Wanda of Culpeper, Virginia, John Stover and his wife Monica of Rixeyville, Virginia; her great-grandchildren; Keith Hawkins, Bryce Stover and Dana Stover and a number of nieces and nephews. Her brothers William, Eddie, Irvin and Gene Bennett also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the Clore-English Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Rev. John Miller and Pastor Angela Jennings will conduct the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Clore-English Funeral Home. James Merrill Ackerman, Jr., age 85, of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2005 at Culpeper Regional Hospital, Culpeper, Virginia. James was born on September 18, 1919 to the late James Merrill Ackerman, Sr. and Catherine Wehrer Ackerman.
James joined the Army Air Corps and was a decorated B-24 pilot during WWII and a Prisoner of War. James later retired from Bendix Aviation of Teterboro, New Jersey as an Instrument Technician. He was a member of The American Legion Fromm-Maxwell-DeBoun Post 859 of Suffern, New York, a member of the Hawk Migration Association of North America, and a member of 8th Air Force Second Air Division Association of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
James is survived by his wife of 61 years, Madeleine Barton Ackerman of Culpeper, Virginia, a daughter, Judith Ackerman Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, three sons, James Ronald Ackerman of Howell, New Jersey, Jeffrey A. Ackerman of Chester, New York and Jonathan David Ackerman of Somerville, Virginia, a sister Ruth Ackerman of Butler, New Jersey, twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, four nieces and a nephew. James was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Francis Edward Ackerman formerly of Nanuet, New York.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 21, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Clore-English Funeral Home Chapel, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, Virginia 22701. The Rev. Marvin C. Cook will be conducting the funeral service. Burial will take place at Culpeper National Cemetery (New Section) East Chandler Street, Culpeper, Virginia 22701 at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2005 with full military honors provided by the United States Army.

Earl was born on May 5, 1934 in Madison County, Virginia, to the late George Oscar Wright and Callie Brookman Wright. Earl was an avid Nascar fan and loved bluegrass music.
Earl is survived by three daughters; Dorothy Leavell of Remington, Virginia, Katie Alfred of Barboursville, Virginia and Phyllis Stanley of Bealeton, Virginia, five sons; Earl Lewis Wright of Reva, Virginia, Gary Wright of Culpeper, Virginia, Sammy Wright of Greene County, Virginia, David Wright of Remington, Virginia, Jimmy Wright of Orange, Virginia; and a foster-son Stephen Jarrell of Greene County, Virginia, three brothers; George Wright of Warrenton, Virginia, Jimmie Wright and James E. Wright both of Rixeyville, Virginia, three sisters; Margaret Carter of Madison, Virginia, Mildred Finks of Rixeyville, Virginia, and Virgie Payne of Fredericksburg, Virginia, 20 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Katherine Mae Stanley Wright, a stepdaughter Nancy Stanley, a sister Mary Emma Coleman and a grandson David Wright, Jr.
