Pauline Gaines
Ruth Pauline Wilson Gaines, 61, of 110 Elwood Ave., died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for six years and in the hospital one month.
Born Sept. 8, 1935, in Danville, she was the daughter of Charlie Wilson and Ollie Wilson Wilson.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
On Nov. 24, 1968, she was married
to Oscar Eugene Gaines, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Phyllis L. Wilson of Danville and Carolyn L. Fochler of Denton, N.C.; one brother, Charlie Lee Wilson of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Mary Ellen Lumpkin of Danville and Nancy W. Leonard of Lexington, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Gilmore J. Hundley. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30 to 8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times will be at the home of Phyllis L. Wilson, 116 Austin Circle.
Henry Parrish
Henry Thomas Parrish, 73, of 1233 Stoney Mill School Road, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997.
Born Dec. 29, 1923, in Danville, he was a son of James Parrish and Betty Williams Parrish.
He was married
to Ruth Smith Parrish, who survives.
Other survivors include five daughters, Patricia A. Parrish-Cross of Richmond, Kathy D. Notyce of Woodbridge, Sandra Gail Parrish of Fredericksburg, Janice R. Parrish of Richmond, and Connie E. Parrish of Lynchburg; two sons, Henry Thomas Parrish Jr. of Manassas and Luther W. Parrish of the home; two sisters, Annie B. Parrish and Harriet Clark both of Danville; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at Silver Creek Bapist Church by the Rev. Booker George. Interment
will be in the family cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence.
Gilmore D. Rowland
Gilmore D. Rowland, 77, of 109 Barrett St., died early Sunday morning, Jan. 12, 1997, at his home after a decline in health of six years.
Born May 3, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Lester Rowland and Minnie Compton Rowland.
He spent most of his life in Danville, and retired from Dan River Inc., where he had worked as a machinist in the No. 2 card room.
He was a member of Riverview Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lucy Francis Rowland, who died March 22, 1994. He was also predeceased by a granddaughter.
Survivors include three daughters, Mabel Stegall of Lynchburg, Ruby Parker of Danville and Frances Townsley of Alabama; five sisters, Ora Pyrtle of Danville, Elsie Adams of Gretna,
Ollie Meadows of Cahtham, Pauline Worley of Kernersville, N.C., and Beulah Crider of Java; two brothers, Calvin Rowland of Rocky Mount, N.C., and William "Bill" Rowland of Gretna; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funral Home Chapel by the Rev. Duane Blevins and Dr. Samuel Greeson. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times will be at the residence.
Irene Stegall
CHATHAM - Irene Gammon Stegall, 88, of Oak Grove Lodge, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for several years.
Born Jan. 11, 1997, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Walter Gammon and Cordie Sue Evans Gammon.
She spent most of her life in Danville and had worked as a sitter.
She was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, and was married
to Claude Stegall, who died in 1972.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris Ann Veale of Danville; six sisters, Mildred Gammon of Jacksonville, Fla, Elsie Stovall of Virginia Beach, Ethel Carr, Ruby Learner and Gladys Burn all of Hampton, and Ruth Mayhew of Richmond; three brothers, Calvin Gammon of Danville, James Gammon of Norfolk and Walter Gammon of Richmond.
She was predeceased by Lonnie Ashby, Lillie Roxanne Cox Davis, Willard "Bill" Gammon, Robert Jackson Gammon and Archer Thomas Gammon.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Lee Ellison.
The family will receive friends at the church after the service.
Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Edna Thompson
Edna Coleman Thompson, 84, of 1900 Westover Drive, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12, 1997, at her home.
Born Jan. 3, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Johnny Barksdale Coleman and Mary Lumpkin Coleman.
She was married
to Stonewall Jackson Thompson, who died Aug. 11, 1993.
She operated Edna Lou's Beauty Shop for 38 years, retiring in 1979.
She attended Fairview United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Buford W. Coleman and Curtis Neal Coleman both of Danville; and a sister, Mary Helen Coleman of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. at Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Fletcher Hardy. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Dixie Connor
A memorial service for Laura Dixon Greene "Dixie" Connor, 77, 241 Lady Astor Place, will be conducted 4 p.m. today at Townes Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Joe Northen and Christine Gregory. Burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church cemetery in Boiling Springs, N.C.
She died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born May 30, 1919, in Boiling Springs, N.C., she was a daughter of Maude Osborne Greene and Garland Manning Greene.
She was educated in the Boiling Springs public schools and graduated from Limestone College with a bachelor of arts degree.
On Nov. 18, 1941, she was married
to Roy Lee Connor, who survives.
She had lived in Danville since 1957, and was a member of First Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by one daughter, Laura Connor Lowe of Arlington, Texas; two sons, Lee Osborne Connor of Springfield and Michael P. Connor of Gainesville, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Theresa "Mickey" Crumpton
Theresa Hale "Mickey" Crumpton, 63, 659 Holland Road, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, in her residence, following several years of declining health.
Born Oct. 14, 1933, in Henderson, N.C., she was a daughter of Jim Hale and Rebecca Ferrell Hale.
She was married
to Wesley E. Crumpton, who survives.
In 1952, she graduated from Schoolfield High School.
She served in the U.S. Air Force as a radio operator. For many years, she served at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, Calif., where she received the National Defense Service Medal. She also worked at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi.
For the past 30 years, she had lived in Danville, where she attended State Line Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Michelle Huddleston of Mesa, Ariz., Rhonda Manola of Phoenix, Ariz., and Carla Singleton of Gilbert, Ariz.; three sons, Jeff Singleton of Peoria, Ariz., Mark Singleton of French Camp, Calif., and Alex Singleton of Gilbert, Ariz.; two sisters, Ann Hale and Ruth Rust, both of Danville; and 12 grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from State Line Baptist Church by the Rev. Wayne Wallace. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where full military honors will be given by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.

H.T. Everett Sr.
Herman Thedrick Everett Sr., 83, 720 Westover Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following two years of declining health.
Born June 14, 1913, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of Cornelious Daniel Everett and Lillie Doll Oliver Everett.
On May 4, 1935, he was married
to Douglas Richardson Everett, who survives.
He spent his entire life in Danville. Prior to his retirement in 1969, he was employed by Lance Inc. as a route salesman for 27 years. He was also a member of First Christian Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Carolyn E. Wiles of South Boston and Patricia E. Ferris of Danville; a son, H.T. Everett Jr. of Melbourne, Fla.; a brother, Willie Malloy Everett of Wilmington, N.C.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Anthony Pollard. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.

Earl Maddox
RINGGOLD - Earl Franklin Maddox, 55, 584 Little Creek Road, Route 732, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 14, 1941, in Hurt, he was a son of Dolly Maddox Ayers, who survives, and Alonza H. Maddox.
On May 12, 1977, he was married
to Betty Barker Maddox, who survives.
He attended St. Mark Pentecostal Holiness Church. Three years ago, he retired due to work related disability. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his mother of Altavista and his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Bettina Cheryl Maddox and Laurie Regena Maddox, both of the residence; a son, John Wesley Barker of Rougemont, N.C.; a sister, Jeanette Burnett of Altavista; and three brothers, David Maddox of Long Island, Wayne Maddox of Roanoke, and James Maddox of Hurt.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from St. Mark Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Henry W. Taylor. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
