Edna Parcell
Edna Shelton Parcell, 70, 160 Summit Road, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following 10 years of declining health.
Born Nov. 4, 1926, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Hugh Everett Shelton and Hattie Wilkerson Shelton.
She was married
to Curtis A. Parcell, who died Aug. 14, 1956.
She spent her entire life in Danville. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Memorial Hospital of Danville as a nurse.
She was a graduate of the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Keeling.
She had been active in the Area 6 LPN Association since 1962.
She is survived by a son, Thomas E. Parcell of Danville; a sister, Ruth Blankenship of Danville; and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Herman Absner and the Rev. Rebecca Yow.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Garnett Dodson
The funeral for Garnett Odell Dodson, 82, 408 Melrose Drive, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. M. Dana Hunt. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
He died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health since December 1996.
Born Sept. 15, 1914, in Danville, he was a son of William Thomas Dodson and Lula Esther Odell Dodson.
He was married
to Garland Susan Haynes Dodson, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville. He was a member of Schoolfield United Methodist Church, where he was a past board member and had served on the finance committee and as a supervisor.
He was retired from Burlington Industries, where he worked as a supervisor.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Charles Lane Dodson of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Julia Dodson Bowman of Danville; three sisters, Alma Dodson Wood and Evelyn Dodson Lawrence, both of Danville, and Lorraine Dodson Massey of Auburn, Ala.; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter, 252 Vicar Place.
Alvin Edmunds
GRETNA - Alvin Barber Edmunds, 90, 219 Leftwich St., died Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997.
Born Feb. 8, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Willie Wright Edmunds and Mary Motley Edmunds.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Greenfield Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Maude Williams Edmunds of the residence.
The funeral will be conducted 10 a.m Monday from Greenfield Baptist Church by the Rev. R.G. Rowland. Interment
will be in Gretna Burial Park.

Edward Gosney
RINGGOLD - Edward Watson Gosney, 82, 3253 Ringgold Church Road, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following three years of declining health.
Born Sept. 10, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John Henry Gosney and Martha Barker Gosney.
He spent his entire life in the Ringgold community. He had worked for Dan River Mills and Producers Warehouse, and was also a farmer prior to his retirement. He was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church.
He is survived by a sister, Rachel Gosney of Ringgold; and a brother, Robert Gosney of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Carl E. Burger. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Beatrice Maxie
A graveside service for Beatrice A. Maxie, 81, formerly of Garland Street, will be conducted 1 p.m. today in Schoolfield cemetery by the Rev. Fred Cox.
She died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born June 20, 1915, in Schoolfield, she was a daughter of Robert William Adams and Gertie Hardy Adams.
She was married
to William Holsie Maxie, who died in July 1966.
She worked for Dan River Mills for many years, but retired from the former Surf, Steak and Seafood House in Danville. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church.
She is survived by a sister, Ruth A. Fowler of Danville; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Clarence Lee Maxie, in April 1967; and by two brothers, Jesse J. Adams and Clarence H. Adams.

Arthur Rose
CHATHAM - Arthur Rose, 74, 300 Hill Crest Lane, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, in his residence.
Born Nov. 14, 1922, in Amherst County, he was a son of Si and Marie Rose.
He was married
to Pearl Pannell Rose, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Donald H. Selvage Construction Co.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his stepmother, Annie Bell Rose of Amherst; two stepdaughters, Ruth Harris of Jersey City, N.J., and Evon Price of Rahway, N.J.; a brother, Oneal Matthews of Amherst; a sister, Louise Glover of Washington, D.C.; four step grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday from Calloway Level Primitive Baptist Church by Elder J.F. Smith. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

RINGGOLD - The funeral for Edward Mason Tate Sr., 77, 1004 Little Creek Road, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Carl E. Burger and the Rev. David Henry. Interment

He died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, in Piney Forest Health Care Center, following six months of declining health.
Born June 8, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Clem Reed Tate and Ollie Kansas Hall Tate.
He spent his entire life in the Ringgold area of Pittsylvania County. He had been a resident at Piney Forest Health Care Center since July 1994.
Prior to his retirement, he was owner and operator of Tate's Grocery in Ringgold. He was also a member of Kentuck Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Mason Tate Jr. of Danville and Jason Wiles Tate Sr. of Ringgold; a daughter, Diane T. Hudgins of Ringgold; four sisters, Nora T. Carmichael, Margaret T. Wilkerson and Irene T. Wiles, all of Ringgold, and Lena T. Barker of Chatham; and his former wife, Virginia Frances Wiles of Ringgold; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Julian Tate, Eunice "Mann" Tate, and Hugh Tate; and by a sister, Evelyn T. Wilkerson.
The family will receive friends at the residence of a son, Jason Tate, 1661 Little Creek Road, Ringgold.
Nora Clark
CHATHAM - Nora Hodnett Clark, 91, of 649 N. Main St., died Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 26, 1905, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Malinda Hodnett. She was first married
to Frank Stone, who predeceased her. Later, she was married
to James Clark, who also preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and a member of Cherrystone Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Marie Floyd of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Olovia Townes of Chatham; one step-daughter, Rebecca Fitzgerald of Chatham; one step-brother, Bosie Marshall of Chatham; 23 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sons, Booker Stone, Frank Stone Jr., Benjamin Stone and John Willis Stone.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Nathaniel Jones. Interment
will be in Hill Crest Burial Park, Chatham.
The family will receive friends at the residence, and also at the home of a daughter, Olovia Townes, Chatham.

Dorothy Fausnaugh
Dorothy Meadows Fausnaugh, 81, formerly of Skylark Avenue, died Sunday morning, Jan. 19, 1997, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home. She had been in declining health for a year.
Born Nov. 1, 1915, in Java, she was the daughter of George Thomas Meadows and Mable Virginia Massey Meadows.
She spent most of her life in Columbus, Ohio, and Danville.
During World War II, she served in the Women's Army Corps.
While in Ohio, she worked for the Mill Mutual Insurance Corp. Upon returning to Danville, she was the secretary at Nor-Dan Church of Christ until September 1995.
She was married
to Edward Fausnaugh, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Nor-Dan Church of Christ.
Survivors include one brother, George Meadows of Danville; and one sister, Mable Meadows of Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Chapel by the Rev. John Hill. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 Tuesday night at Swicegood Funeral Home.
