Aubrey Griffin
A graveside service for Aubrey "Griff" Griffin, will be conducted 2 p.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Gilmore Hundley. An honor guard will be provided by the Virginia State Police Force.
He died Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 5, 1934, in Ringgold, he was a son of Malcolm Mike Griffin and Minnie Willis Griffin, who survives.
Prior to his retirement in 1991, he served as a Virginia state trooper in Rockbridge County and Pittsylvania County for 30 years.
He was also a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served eight years in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his mother of Ringgold, survivors include a daughter, Brandi M. Griffin of Ringgold; a stepdaughter, Denise Campbell of Ringgold; and a brother, Bobby E. Griffin of Ringgold.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his niece, Tammy Fulton, 822 Kristen Lane, off Afton Road.

Clara Meeks
The funeral for Clara Stewart Meeks, 72, 171 Piney Forest Road, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bruce Wilson. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
She died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health since 1975.
Born Feb. 3, 1925, in Danville, she was a daughter of Fredrick Stewart and Jennie Gillispie Stewart.
She was married
to Kim Anderson Meeks, who died Feb. 17, 1987.
She spent her entire life in Danville, where she was employed by Dan River Mills as an inspector for 25 years. She retired on disability in 1975.
She was a member of Piney Forest United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah L. Meeks of Ringgold; a son, Kim W. Meeks of Danville; a sister, Virginia Thompson of Fayetteville, N.C.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, 130 Tolliver Place.
Carlton Mills
DRY FORK - The funeral for Richard Carlton Mills, 84, 2726 Whitmell School Road, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Whitmell United Methodist Church by the Rev. George S. Riggins III, the Rev. Mike Hearp and the Rev. Jack Oakes. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
He died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several months of declining health.
Born Feb. 13, 1912, in the Whitmell community, he was a son of Walter I. Mills and Roxie Scarce Mills.
He was married
to Bernice Haskins Mills, who survives.
He spent his entire life in the Whitmell community and was owner and operator of Mills Service Station and Grocery.
He was also a member of Whitmell United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a daughter, Susan M. Adkins of Dry Fork; two sons, Carlton Edward "Jimmy" Mills of Danville and Richard H. Mills of Dry Fork; two sisters, Norma Tuck of Danville and Iris Roach of Chesapeake; two brothers, Radford Mills and Campbell Mills, both of Dry Fork; five grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter, 2736 Whitmell School Road.

Edith Parks
Edith Louise Clark Parks, 82, 592 Charming Road, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following five years of declining health.
A native of Lee County, she was born Oct. 25, 1914.
She spent most of her life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County areas, where she was a retired homemaker. She had resided at Riverside Health Care Center for a year.
She was also a member of Shermont Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond D. Parks of Danville, Harry Lee Parks and William M. Parks, both of Richmond; a daughter, Beluah V. Noonceaster of Cleveland; two sisters, Daisy Clark of Big Stone Gap and Ola David of Richmond; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Bill Soyars. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Willie Slade
Willie Raymond Slade, 73, 331 Smith St., died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 5, 1923, in Danville, he was a son of Willie Slade Sr. and Florence Mabane.
He was married
to Mary J. James Slade, who predeceased him.
He was formerly employed by Johnson and Lentz Drug Store for more than 30 years.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 217.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Walter Slade of Brunswick, Ga., and Roosevelt James of Newark, N.J.; two brothers, Walter H. Slade of San Antonio, Texas, and James T. Willis of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Mattie Willis of Danville; and several grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Shiloh Baptist Church by the Rev. Cecil Bridgeforth. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Eddie Bethel Sr.
Eddie Alexander Bethel Sr., 50, 666 Lee St., died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, in his residence.
Born Sept. 16, 1946, in Danville, he was a son of Lucille Fuller and Thurman Bethel.
He was married
to Annie C. Bethel.
He spent most of his life in Danville. He was employed by Perkins Fountain prior to becoming ill.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony Warner and Eddie Bethel Jr., both of Danville; two daughters, Helena Bethel and Narlene Johnson, both of Danville; two brothers, Herman Bethel of Danville and Sherman Bethel of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Geraldine Spinner of Danville and Thelma Bell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

Alice Inge
MARTINSVILLE - The funeral for Alice Dodd Inge, 43, 621 Clearview Drive, will be conducted 11 a.m. today from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Steven W. Greer and the Rev. Robert Carty. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
She died Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997, in Martinsville Memorial Hospital, following an automobile accident.
Born July 9, 1953, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Martha Adkins Dodd, who survives, and Jessie Bennett Dodd.
She spent most of her life in Pittsylvania County, where she graduated from Tunstall High School in 1972.
She was employed by Pulaski Furniture Co. as an inspector. She was also a member of Saint John's United Methodist Church.
In addition to her mother of Danville, survivors include a brother, John F. Dodd of Pueblo, Colo.; and three sisters, Becky D. Roberts of Roanoke, Linda D. Blankenship of Blue Ridge, and Diana D. Fulton of Boyce.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her mother, 3310 Stony Mill Road, Route 869, off U.S. 58 West, Danville.
Mildred Talley
Mildred Ragsdale Talley, 73, 212 Eagle Lane, formerly Cedar Lane, died Friday, Feb. 7, 1997, following a year of declining health.
Born Aug. 16, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Clarence D. Ragsdale and Carrie Smith Ragsdale.
She was married
to James T. Talley, who survives.
She spent her entire life in Danville and Pittsylvania County.
She was a member of Lighthouse Independent Methodist Church.
