Graveside services for Evelyn Grace Barksdale Seeley, 85, of 330 College Ave., will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Greenfield Baptist Church cemetery in Gretna by the Rev. Bruce Wilson.
She died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at her residence.
Born Feb. 25, 1912, in Gretna, she was the daughter of John Wooding Barksdale and Mamie Yeatts Barksdale.
On July 20, 1940, she was married
to William J. Seeley Jr., who survives.
She was a member of West Main Baptist Church and the Dorothea Henry Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne Seeley Golden.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, William J. Seeley III of South Hill; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Morris Smith
Morris Judon Smith, 49, 253 Banner St., died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 14, 1948, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Morris A. Smith and Izetta Tarpley Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Christy Smith of the residence and Stacy Adams of Danville; two sisters, Penny S. Harris of Danville and Pamela S. Hill of Richmond; two brothers, Theodore Smith of New Jersey and Thomas Smith of Detroit; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Dry Fork. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lois Wentz
Graveside services for Lois Irene Leonard Wentz, 86, formerly of 127 Camden St., will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. David Turbyfill and Dr. John LaRue.
She died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Feb. 3, 1911, in Leaksville, N.C., she was a daughter of William Edward Leonard and Lula Clayton Leonard.
On July 12, 1936, she was married
to Lester Hansell Wentz Sr., who died Nov. 7, 1995.
She received her degree in nursing from the University of Virginia in 1935. A career registered nurse, she worked at Danville Memorial Hospital for a number of years, and as a private duty nurse and she was head nursing supervisor at Roman Eagle Memorial Home until her retirement. She was a member of Schoolfield Baptist Church for over 70 years.
Survivors include three sons, Lester H. Wentz Jr. of Glen Dale, Md., Douglas H. Wentz Sr. of Jamestown, N.C., and C.L. Wentz of Virgilina; a sister, Sunshine Leonard Chattin of Danville; eight grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

KEELING - Spencer Edward Dawson, 64, 242 Loop Road, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 6, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a year of declining health.
Born Jan. 25, 1933, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Spencer Adams Dawson and Lizzie Ashby Dawson.
He was married
to Ida Hylton Dawson, who survives.
A life long resident of Keeling, he was retired from Dan River, Inc.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a stepson, William Hyler of Danville; a stepdaughter, Margaret Carlton of Keeling; two brothers, Thomas Dawson and Douglas Dawson, both of Danville; two sisters, Nannie Pruitt and Margaret Whitt, both of Danville; two step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. R.J. Barber and the Rev. Gary Jenkins.

Larry Michael "Red Dog" Edwards, 47, 513 Bradley Road, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 19, 1950, in Danville, he was a shift worker at Dibrell Tobacco Co.
He was a member of Vance Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Nannie G. Edwards of Danville; a brother, Charlie Edwards Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and a sister, MaLinda Nickens of Ashburn.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Camp Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Herbert Dickerson. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Jesse Walker
LEESBURG, Fla. - Jesse James Walker, 71, 11538 Lake Eustis Drive, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998.
A native of Danville, Va., he moved to Central Florida in 1964.
He was a retired senior chief petty officer from the U.S. Navy.
He was of the Protestant faith, and he helped organize the Volunteer Bassville Park Fireman Dept.
Survivors include his wife, Novella Walker of Leesburg; two daughters, Deborah A. Walker and Karen Walker Wayland, both of Leesburg; a sister, Edna Davis of Danville, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Philip Williams
SUTHERLIN - Philip Pierpont Williams, 1897 Kerns Church Road, died Monday night, Jan. 5, 1998, in the Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
He was born in Pittsylvania County, on June 28, 1908, a son of Benjamin Williams and Mamie Burton Williams.
Mr. Williams was a graduate of Dan River High School in 1928, lived all his life in the Sutherlin community and was an active farmer until he retired.
He was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Williams was an active member for many years in the Pittsylvania County Farm Bureau.
He was married
to the former Alma Walters on Dec. 26, 1936.
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by a daughter, Shirley Williams Walton of Appomattox; a son, Philip Walters Williams of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, Cheryl Walton Gullickson of Heidelburg, Germany, and Laura Walton Bell of Auburn, Ala., and Philip Michael Williams of Chase City, Mark Andrew Williams of Matthews, N.C., and Philip Robert Williams of Charlotte, N.C.; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nettie Williams and Mary W. Powell, both of Roman Eagle Memorial Home, Danville, and Maude W. Edmunds of Gretna.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Mark Blair. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

PITTSVILLE - Sterling Wyatt Camden III, 60, 7057 Toshes Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 10, 1937, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Sterling Wyatt Camden Jr. and Jean Jones Camden Osterhout.
He was employed as a parts man with Mason Auto Parts. Mr. Camden was an U.S. Air Force veteran and attended Siloam United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Berger Camden of the residence; a son, Sterling Wyatt "Chip" Camden IV of Folsom, Calif.; two daughters, Roanna Cann and Christa Heron, both of Annapolis, Md.; four grandchildren, Sterling W. "Rusty" Camden V and John Russell Camden, both of Denver, and Gabriella Camden Meninger of Folsom, Calif., and Rachael Alexandra Heron of Annapolis, Md.; two brothers, James B. Camden of Cincinnati and William D. Camden of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and two stepbrothers, Richard Osterhout of Sutter Creek, Calif., and Jim Osterhout of Ooltewah, Tenn.

Charlie Joseph Carter, 86, formerly of the Brosville community, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at the residence of his son, 4513 Meadowbrook Lane, Orlando, Fla., after several years of declining health.
Born March 19, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Charlie Allen Carter and Nannie Ellen Hardy Carter.
He was married
to Eva Shelton Carter, who died in June 1982.
A resident of the Brosville community for most of his life, he was retired from Dan River Mills and was also a retired farmer.
He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Joseph R. Carter of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Peggy Ann Russo of Merritt Island, Fla.; two brothers, Ralph Carter of Dry Fork and Hardy Carter of Brosville; four sisters, Sue C. Merricks of Danville, Lois C. Scearce of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Helen C. Pendleton of Leigh Acres, Fla., and Bernice C. Herndon of Dry Fork; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Moore Abbott, 58, 913 Mill Creek Road, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health and two days in the hospital.
Born Jan. 30, 1939, in Danville, she was a daughter of Richard Moore and Alma Hanks Moore.
On Sept. 3, 1953, she was married
to Harvey Wayne Abbott, who survives.
A life long resident of Danville and Pittsylvania County, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Church of Out Reach Ministries, where she was active with food distribution of the church.
