BLAIRS - Teresa Ann Robertson, 31, 240 Howertons Road, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 21, 1966, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Archie Lenford Robertson and Shirley Roop Robertson.
She was a member of Cathedral of Praise Assembly of God.
Survivors include her grandmother, Catherine Prather Roop of South Boston; one sister, Vicky L. Oakes of Ringgold; two brothers, Archie L. Robertson Jr. of Blairs and Ralph Edward Fannin of Keeling; her fiance, Ricky Dean Francisco of Blairs; a brother-in-law, Allen Oakes of Ringgold; a number of aunts and uncles; and two nephews.
A private memorial service will be held.
The family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday at the home of her sister, Vicky Oakes, 325 Homestead Trail, Ringgold.

Delma Clay
Delma Edwards Eanes Clay, 91, 177 Starling Ave., died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home. She had been a resident of Roman Eagle Memorial Home since April 1997.
Born July 17, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Charlie C. Edwards and Lena Meadows Edwards.
She was first married
to William Abb Eanes, who died June 1952. She was later married
to Joe T. Clay.
A life long resident of Danville, she had worked as an aid in the nursery at Memorial Hospital of Danville until her retirement.
She was a member of Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church and was also a member of Danville Rebekah Lodge 80.
Survivors include a son, Roy B. Eanes of Danville; a daughter, Beulah E. Holley of Chatham; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
She was also predeceased by a son, Coleman Eanes; a granddaughter, Carolyn Eanes; and two brothers, Alton Edwards and Talmadge Edwards.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Carl Burger.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence of her son, 177 Starling Ave.
Franklin Dalton
RINGGOLD - FFranklin G. "Tink" Dalton, 64, 1161 Neal Davis Road, died Monday morning, Feb. 23, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 2, 1934, in Ringgold, he was a son of Joseph Royal Dalton and Belinda Pearl Richardson Dalton.
On March 9, 1952, he was married
to Gloria Hammock Dalton, who survives.
For several years, he worked for Virginia Hardware. He was service technician for Thomas Oil Co., Yanceyville, N.C.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Franklin G. Dalton Jr. and Ricky W. Dalton, both of Ringgold, and Edward L. Dalton of Cascade and Robert L. Dalton of Danville; a daughter, Vicky D. Frost of Danville; three brothers, Edgar R. Dalton of Danville, William H. Dalton of Cascade and Lewis H. Dalton of Ringgold; two sisters, Pauline D. Richardson and Ruth D. Wilson, both of Danville; and 10 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister and a brother.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday in Floral Hills Memory Gardens by the Rev. Lee Von Eime.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Barker Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Mary Fountain
Mary Lee Fountain, 86, 2344 Riverside Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 11, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Nannie Pinkard.
She was married
to James Fountain, who predeceased her.
She was employed at P. Lorillard Tobacco Co. for many years before retiring.
Survivors include one son, James Ike Fountain Jr. of Martinsville; one daughter, Gaynell Knight of Danville; and one half-sister, Hortense Carter of Dry Fork.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Matthew Scott. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Gaynell Knight, 1200 Washington St.
Alice Saunders
BLAIRS - Alice Elner Saunders, 405 Pritchett Lane, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 24, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James and Mary Liza Leftwich Woods.
She was married
to Smith Saunders, who survives.
Prior to her disability, she was employed by Dan River Mills.
She was a member of Mt. Tatum Primitive Baptist Church in Dry Fork.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, Lloyd E. Woods Sr. of Rockville; four brothers, William H. Woods and Samuel E. Woods, both of Dry Fork, and Roy J. Woods of Chatham and Shirley C. Woods of Danville; five sisters, Elizabeth W. Carter, Louise Woods, Lelia W. Payne and Rose W. Price, all of Dry Fork, and Barbara Law of Danville; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth, in 1979.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Tatum Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Joseph Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ellis Barker
Ellis Gould Barker, 92, 139 Third Ave., died Monday evening, Feb. 23, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Barker was the former owner of Barker Funeral Home, having operated the business 32 years prior to his retirement.
He was a son of the late William Onico Barker and Lula Covington Barker.
On June 3, 1933, he was married
to Ethel Sledge Barker, who predeceased him.
He was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, Danville Moose Lodge, the Poquoson Tribe No. 124 Improved Order of Redman.
He attended Danville Public Schools and the Renouard School for Embalmers. He was licensed by the Virginia State Board in 1926 as a funeral director and embalmer.
He demonstrated American Methods of Embalming in both England and France in 1927. He handled government contract work at Florence Air Force Base during World War II.
Mr. Barker is survived by a son, William Onico Barker and a daughter, Alice Jo Barker Campbell, both of Danville; a brother, James Artie Barker of Newport News; and five grandchildren, Starlette B. Johnson of Dallas, Ellis Barker and Preston Campbell, both of Richmond, and Otho Campbell of Fredericksburg and Ben Campbell of London. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Lee D. Ellison at Barker Mausoleum in Highland Burial Park.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, Va. 24541 or to the Moffett Memorial Baptist Church - "Percy and Velna Scearce Scholarship Fund," 1026 N. Main St., Danville, Va. 24540.

Tom 'Tink' Chandler Jr.
CRYSTAL HILL - Tom 'Tink' Chandler Jr., 34, of Crystal Hill Road, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.
Born Jan. 21, 1964, in Halifax County, he was the son of Tom and Janis B. Chandler, who survive.
He attended New Hope C.M.E. Church of Clays Mill.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was employed by Mays Electric Company.
In addition to his parents of the residence, survivors include his sister, Angela C. Traynham of Alton.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at Crawford-Garrett and Burton Funeral Chapel by the Rev. J.E. Traynham. Burial will be in the Chandler Family cemetery.

Mary Christian
CHATHAM - Mary Rhabe Christian, 89, 1368 Moses Mill Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 8, 1908, in Mayodan, N.C., she was the daughter of Fred Rhabe and Nora Rhabe.
She was married
to Maurry Maddox Christian, who preceased her.
She was of the Episcopal faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia C. Gillispie of Chatham; two brothers, Fred Rhabe Jr. of Arizona and Nick Rhabe of North Carolina; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Hillcrest Burial Park by the Rev. Frank Fuller.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1368 Moses Mill Road, Chatham.

David Perkins
GRETNA - David Logan Perkins, 72, 712 Blue Ridge Drive, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 13, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Henry Lee Perkins and Sally Jane Neal Perkins.
Mr. Perkins was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Payne Perkins and is survived by his wife, Shirley Moser Perkins of the residence.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Dan River Mills.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Brenda Starr of Ringgold; three stepsons, Tony Hammock of Star, S.C., and James Tench III of Danville and Doug Giles of Gretna; six stepdaughters, Darlene Reynolds of Chatham, Delores Richardson of Danville, Rena Coe and Donna Rumsey, both of Anderson, S.C., and Sandy Tench of Hartwell, Ga., and Janet Harper of West Virginia; three brothers, Eugene Perkins and Johnny Perkins, both of Danville, and Harold Perkins of Baltimore; two sisters, Eva Hammock of Gretna and Evelyn Farmer of Hurt; three grandchildren, Rhonda Kendrick, Wendy Giles and Donna Strader; three great-grandchildren, Brittany Starr, Ricky Giles and Justin Yeatts; and 11 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Colbert-Moran Chapel by the Rev. Albert Moser. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Wilbert Scearce Sr.
DRY FORK - Wilbert Hoover Scearce Sr., 68, 557 Tunstall High Road, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, in the emergency room at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 14, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Walter T. Scearce and Elva Samuels Scearce.
On Oct. 24, 1951, he was married
to Annie Mae Patterson Scearce, who survives.
A resident of Pittsylvania County for most of his life, he retired in July of 1997 from Chatham Oil Company, where he worked at Express Mart, Airport, in the maintenance department.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict as a sergeant first class.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Wilbert "Buster" Scearce Jr. of Dry Fork and Tom Scearce of Danville; three daughters, Susan Pyron of Blanch, N.C., and Wendy Flinchum of Dry Fork and Wanda Ingram of Danville; a sister, Peggy Sterling of Durham, N.C.; two daughters-in-law, Terri Scearce of Dry Fork and Monica Scearce of Danville; three sons-in-law, Gerald Pyron of Blanch, N.C., and Wesley Flinchum of Dry Fork and Randy Ingram of Danville; grandchildren, Michael Dodd, Bradley Flinchum, Shane Ingram, Travis Ingram, Lucas Scearce, Michael Holt, Kayla Scearce and Bethany Scearce; a great-grandchild, Madison Dodd; and a granddaughter-in-law, Melanie Dodd.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Carson T. Scearce and James Scearce; and a granddaughter, Katie Flinchum.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday by the Rev. Don Davidson at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

George Soyars
CASCADE - George Allen Soyars, 71, 513 Huntington Trail, died Monday afternoon, Feb. 23, 1998, at his residence after six months of declining health.
Born May 31, 1926, in the Cascade community of Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Cove Allen Soyars and Lillian Soyars Soyars.
A lifelong resident of the Cascade community, he was a well-known farmer, cowboy and a well- known baseball player in the county.
He worked for the Santa Fe Pipe Line for a number of years before retiring in 1990.
He was a life time member of Cascade Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Anne Haley Soyars of the residence; three daughters, Sheila S. Martin, Tammy S. Wilson and Kimberly S. Hudson, all of Danville; a son, Ricky Allen Soyars of Danville; a sister, Loraine S. Harris of Cascade; three brothers, James W. Soyars, Burton Soyars and Bailey "Doc" Soyars, all of Cascade; and seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Cody Allen Soyars.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Thomas Wright and the Rev. Thomas Allgood. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his daughter, Sheila Martin, 991 Moorefield Bridge Road, on State Road 863.
