Lennie Clark

Lennie Lee Clark Sr., 79, of 145 New Ingram Road, Apt. D, died Monday, March 9, 1998, in Martinsville Health and Rehabilitation Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 7, 1918, in Halifax County, he was the son of Robert Clark and Ethel Hardy McGhee.

He was married to Carolena Farmer Clark, who predeceased him.

Survivors include four daughters, Margaret Clark, Alene McGhee and Rosa Wheeler, all of Danville, and Dorothy Powell of Houston, Texas; three sons, George Richardson of Richmond, Allen Clark and Lennie L. Clark Jr., both of Danville; a sister, Wilsie Richardson of Sutherlin; a granddaughter he raised as his own daughter, Lisa Clark of Danville; and other grandchildren and relatives.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home by the Rev. Floyd Standfield with interment in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the home of Margaret Clark, at 545 Third Ave.

Mildred Goins

Mildred L. Goins, 91, of 122 Beverly Road, died Sunday, March 8, 1998, in Piney Forest Health Care Center.

Born July 30, 1906, in Gastonia, N.C., she was a daughter of Emery Friday and Cora Friday.

A member of White Rock Baptist Church, she was a member of Opera Ebony Concert Guild, the As You Like It Club and the Y.W.C.A.

A homemaker's aide for the Home Health Care Center, she was married to Lorenzo F. Goins, who predeceased her.

Survivors include two daughters, Thelma White of Danville and Helen Foster of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, Katie Hawkins of East Orange, N.J., and Ada Hailstock of Patterson, N.J.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from White Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Walter Tinsley with burial in Graceland Memorial Park in Roselle, N.J.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of Thelma White, 402 S. Woodberry Ave.

Cunningham & Hughes funeral directors are in charge of arrangements.

Annie McIver

RICHMOND - Annie Cameron McIver, 91, of Richmond, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, in Beaufont Healthcare Center.

She is the widow of Frank McIver.

Survivors include her son, Donald C. McIver of Richmond; her daughter, Carol Ann McIver of Lynchburg; and two brothers, Hubert Cameron and Levie C. Cameron, both of Broadway, N.C.. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Russell C. McIver and Heather C. McIver, both children of Donald C. McIver and Carolyn C. McIver.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Townes Funeral Home, 215 W. Main St., Danville.

A memorial service will be conducted at Northview Presbyterian Church, 835 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Northview Presbyterian Church or Crestwood Presbyterian Church, 6627 Jahnke Road, Richmond, Va. 23225.

James Myers

GRETNA - James Louis Myers, 82, of 24132 U.S. 29, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at his residence.

Born May 11, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Charlie Austin Myers and Arbelia Weeks Myers.

A retired employee of Dan River Inc., he was a former member of the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Survivors include his wife, Reba Dalton Myers of the residence; one son, Gary L. Myers of Danville; two daughters, Faye M. Phelps of Rustburg and Emily M. Jacobs of Gretna; a foster son, David Myers of Petersburg; one brother, Douglas Myers of Gretna; two sisters, Nannie George and Frances Vasser, both of Gretna; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a grandson, Kenneth R. Phelps.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Weatherford Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Raymond Goad and Elder Marvin Brumfield with burial in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Thomas Rigney

On Feb. 27, 1998, Thomas William Rigney, beloved husband of Katherine (nee Payne) Rigney, died.

He was the devoted father of Betty Ann Rigney and her husband, Louis Martinelli, and Linda Rigney Lane, all of Baltimore; and dear brother of Irvin and Robert Rigney and Mary R. Baker, all of Danville. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, three godchildren and his beloved dog Matey.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Danville Saturday, March 14, 1998, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Thomas W. Rigney Memorial Fund, TUMC, 501 Hampton Lane, Towson, Md. 21286.

Ronald W. Toler

RINGGOLD - Ronald W. Toler, 56, of 3780 Kentuck Road, died Tuesday morning, March 10, 1998, in a traffic accident in Caswell County, N.C.

Born March 1, 1942, in Danville, he was a son of Gladys Brooks Toler of the residence and the late Johnny Lester Toler.

He was the owner-operator of Morgan Drive Away, a mobile home delivery service.

He was married Sept. 30, 1960, to his wife, Ellen Marie Quinn Toler of the residence.

In addition to his mother and wife, survivors include two brothers, Larry Taylor of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Lester Carrol Toler of Ringgold; three sisters, Shelby Jean T. Maxey of Randelman, N.C., and Linda T. McKinney and Patsy T. Eanes, both of Danville. He was predeceased by a sister, Cathy Jo T. Staley.

Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which were incomplete Tuesday night.

The family will be at the residence.

Ennis Webb

Ennis H. Webb, 89, of 1615 Halifax Road, died Monday, March 9, 1998, in Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born June 5, 1908, in Grayson County, she was a daughter of William McKinley Hawkins and Mary Belle Smallwood Hawkins.

She attended Full Gospel Fellowship Church. Until her retirement, she was employed as a winder tender at Dan River Inc.

She was married to Quincy D. Webb, who predeceased her.

Survivors include five daughters, Gladys Griffin of Providence, N.C., Virginia Stewart of Beaver, Pa., Nora Roach of Great Bridge, Helen Lucas of New York, and Patricia McCain of Martinsville; two sons, Richard Webb of Florida and William Webb of Danville; a sister, Margaret Poole of Havre deGrace, Md.; 13 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in Danville Memorial Gardens mausoleum by the Rev. Roy Newton with burial in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence.

Margaret Anderson

Margaret Phillips Anderson, 92, died Friday, March 6, 1998, in King's Grant Retirement Community in Martinsville.

She was born on Feb. 6, 1906, in Bear County, N.C., a daughter of the late Samuel Monroe Phillips and Emma Burroughs Phillips.

Mrs. Anderson had been a resident of Danville since 1932 until she became a resident of King's Grant in January of 1994. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church until it closed in 1988, whereupon she returned to her Baptist roots by joining Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.

Mrs. Anderson was predeceased by her husband, Banister Anderson, and her son, George Banister Anderson.

She is survived by her daughter, Emily Anderson Parker, and son-in-law, James W. Parker Jr., both of Harrisonburg; a sister, Mary Phillips Daniels of Durham, N.C.; six grandchildren, Margaret Anderson Paysinger of Orlando, Fla., Pam Anderson Arnett of Keswick, Emily Anderson Duke of Cornelius, N.C., James W. Parker III of Dublin, N.H., David A. Parker of Lake Oswega, Ore., and George P. Parker of Richmond; also six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park in Danville by the Rev. Susanne Schultz Martin, chaplain at King's Grant.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at Townes Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be sent to the George B. Anderson Scholarship, Randolph Macon College, Ashland, Va. 23005.

Ellis Dodson

CHATHAM - Ellis Hamilton Dodson, 80, 341 Moses Mill Road, died Wednesday afternoon, March 11, 1998, in Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born June 3, 1917, in Rustburg, he was a son of Wiliam Hamilton Dodson and Fannie Shelton Dodson Jones.

He was married to Eva Johnson Dodson, who survives.

He was a member of Beverly Presbyterian Chapel, the Knights of Pythians in Martinsville, and the OTC.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Wayne Hamilton Dodson of Martinsville, Jerold Lynn Dodson of Vancover, Wash., and Ronald Scott Dodson of Cornelius, Ore.; a daughter, Donna Dodson Wehner of Heathrow, Fla., 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Chatham Burial Park by the Rev. Walker Pettyjohn.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Beverly Presbyterian Church, and other times at the residence.

Scott Funeral Home of Chatham is in charge of arrangements.

Carlton Gammon Sr.

Carlton Nathaniel Gammon Sr., 72, 2588 Franklin Turnpike, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, in his residence, following two years of declining health.

Born June 27, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Viola Mize Gammon, who survives, and George Daniel Gammon.

He was married to Dorothy Lee Clifton Gammon, who died Aug. 25, 1992.

He had lived in Falls Church until 1991, when he moved to Danville.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a lab technician with Melpar, a high-tech manufacturing company.

During World War II, he served overseas with the 465th Field Artillery Battalion.

He was also a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church and the American Legion Post No. 325.

In addition to his mother, survivors include three sons, Carlton N. Gammon Jr. of Stafford, Danny Gammon of Woodbridge and Bruce Gammon of Stafford; a daughter, Carol G. Banta of Vienna; four brothers, Julian Gammon of Richmond, Curtis Gammon, Tony Gammon and Benny Gammon, all of Danville; three sisters, Myrtle Crumpton of Danville, Margaret Dalton of Keeling and Cleo Price of Pelham, N.C.; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, James Gammon and Paul Gammon; and a sister, Evelyn Hardy.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Highland Burial Park, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at 103 Cambridge Drive.

Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Gloria Mills

Mrs. Gloria Stroud Mills, age 72, of 3983 Westover Drive, died Wednesday morning, March 11, 1998, at her residence.

A daughter of the late Richmond Hobson Stroud and Jessie Easley Stroud, she was born on April 18, 1925, in Rockingham County, N.C.

Mrs. Mills was a graduate of Ruffin High School and was retired from Dan River Inc. She was a member of the Westover Hills United Methodist Curch and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her husband, Granville Bruce Mills of the home; a daughter, Debra Mills Parrish of Danville; two sons, David Bruce Mills of Lynchburg and Dennis Lee Mills of Charlottesville; six grandchildren, Hugh and Sara Parrish of Danville, Emily and Kevin Mills of Lynchburg, Ben and Jennifer Mills of Charlottesville; three brothers, Harvey B. Stroud of Pelham, N.C., James E. Stroud of Williamsburg and William G. Stroud of Waterview; three sisters, Mildred S. Markham of Blanch, N.C., Nancy S. McGee of Danville, and Rachel S. Anderson of Ernul, N.C.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Pam Holcomb-McLain. Interment icon will be in the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home Thursday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m., and other times will be at the residence, 3983 Westover Drive.

The family requests that memorial donations may be sent to the American Heart Association.
