Issac Bennett, 69, 844 Piney Forest Road, died Friday, March 20, 1998, at Stratford Health Care Center.
Born March 4, 1929, in Danville, he was a son of John Bennett and Harriett Watkins Bennett.
He was married
to Irma T. Bennett, who survives.
He was a hourly employee with Dan River Mills.
He was a member of Bellview Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Issac M. Bennett of Danville; four daughters, Sandra B. Conway, Anna A. Mayo, Glenda B. Motley and Valerie Bennett, all of Danville; a sister, Marie B. Moss of Danville; a brother, Lee A. Bennett of Danville; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Cunningham & Hughes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Clarence McLaughlin. Burial will be in the Danville Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Bennett may be viewed from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home.
The family will be at the residence, 844 Piney Forest Road.
Thomas Hankins
Thomas Hatcher Hankins, 71, 152 Banner St., died early Friday morning, March 20, 1998, at Martinsville Health & Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville after several years of declining health.
Born Jan. 31, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of James C. Hankins and Virgie Jones Hankins.
He was married
to Iris Rebecca Francis Hankins, who survives.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
A resident of Danville for most of his life, he was a member of Shermont Baptist Church and was retired from the heating and air conditioning business.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Dixie Hoskins of Pelham, N.C., and Vickie Furr of Ringgold; a stepson, Garland Wayne Vaden of Danville; two brothers, Billy Hankins of Danville and Carroll Hankins of Axton; four sisters, Ima Mae Dalton and Betty Testerman, both of Axton, and Dorothy Dalton of Danville and Barbara Stallings of Sevierville, Tenn.; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bill Soyars. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Henry Hatchett
Henry G. Hatchett, 63, 449 Martin Road, died Thursday evening, March 19, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center after eight years of declining health.
Born July 17, 1934, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of James Harvey Hatchett and Pearl Gentry Hatchett.
On June 27, 1959, he was married
to Florine Weadon Hatchett, who survives.
He had served in the U.S. Army.
He had spent most of his life in Caswell County, N.C., before moving to Martin Road in Danville in 1984.
He retired from construction work on disability 10 years ago.
He was a member of Ferry Road Evangelical Friends Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Tammy F. Hatchett of Danville; a son, Ronald D. Hatchett of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Mamie Pickeral of Providence, N.C.; and three step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Methodist Church in Caswell County, N.C., by the Rev. Linwood R. Hairfield Sr., and the Rev. Donnie R. Pickeral. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
David Martin
Funeral services for David Joseph Martin, 58, 213 Robertson Ave., will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Woodberry Hills Baptist Church by the Rev. Lewis Harris and the Rev. Wade Leonard. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery with military honors performed by the American Legion Memorial Post 325 Honor Guard.
He died Thursday afternoon, March 19, 1998, at his residence.
Born Sept. 1, 1939, in Spangler, Penn., he was a son of Joseph Martin and Rebecca Buchanan Martin Dillon, who survives.
He was married
to Cathie Tompkins Martin, who also survives.
He had served in the U.S. Marines for four years.
Since 1991, he had been a resident of Danville, where he was a member of Woodberry Hills Baptist Church and the Moose Club.
He worked in construction jobs with the union local 1240, working in the oil fields.
In addition to his mother of Bradenton, Fla., and his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Sharon Martin of Durham, N.C.; two sons, Steven G. Martin and Joseph William Martin, both of the residence; a sister, Jo Ann St. Lawrence of Bradenton; and two brothers, Edward Martin and Les Martin, both of Bradenton.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
John Adams
CASCADE - John S. Adams, 69, of 492 Tender Lane, died March 20, 1998, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Joseph Richard Adams and Ruth Smith Adams.
He was a member of Bethel Way of the Cross Church, where he served as a deacon and member of the trustee board. He was a self-employed building contractor for more than 40 years.
He was married
to Mytrle Stone Adams, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include four sons, Jerome Adams of Cascade, Marvin Adams of the residence, Barry Stone of Augusta, Ga., and Robin Adams of Eden, N.C.; a daughter, Juanita Hairston of Midlothian; two brothers, Apostle Joseph H. Adams of Axton and Bishop Richard W. Adams of Cascade; two sisters, Lucille Eggleston of Cascade and Maggie Jane Murrell of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday at Bethel Way of the Cross Church near Danville. Burial will be in the Adams family cemetery in Cascade.
The family receive friends from 5-7 p.m. tonight at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home in Eden.
Eldridge Blair
Eldridge "Pete" Blair, 80, of 5536 Mount Cross Road, died at his residence Saturday morning, March 21, 1998, after a decline in health for many years. He had been in serious condition for the past two months.
Born Sept. 5, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Willard F. Blair and Lillie Herndon Blair.
He had spent all of his life in Pittsylvania County, where he was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church. He worked for Dan River Inc. for 42 years before retiring in 1982 at the age of 65.
Blair was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
On Aug. 16, 1947, he married
Thelma Barbour Blair, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Ann Blair Hayden of Danville; one son, Joseph E. Blair of Wilmington, N.C.; one half-sister, Mildred Ellis of Clinton, Md.; one half-brother, Morris Blair of Danville; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Steven Greer and the Rev. Robert Carty. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Ethel Davis
Ethel Thornton Davis, 89, of 181 North Ave., died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 14, 1908, in Henry County, she was a daughter of James Edward Thornton and Nannie Terry Thornton.
She had spent most of her life in Washington, D.C., and Danville, where she was a member of Schoolfield Baptist Church. She was retired from the U.S. Government, where she was a secretary for Housing & Urban Development.
Survivors include three sisters, Eunice T. Cook and Annie T. Teal, both of Danville, and Mattie T. Holder of Gastonia, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. David Turbyfill and the Rev. Dr. John H. LaRue. Burial will be at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Terry Glass
SOUTH BOSTON - Terry Thornton Glass, 96, of 2915 Alcott Road, Richmond, died Friday, March 20, at Chippenham Medical Center.
Born Aug. 13, 1901, in Halifax County, he was the son of James Edward Glass and Emma Compton Glass.
He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church of Richmond.
He was married
to Verona Trent Glass.
Survivors include his wife of Richmond; one son, Terry E. Glass of Richmond; one daughter, Nancy L. Glass of Richmond; three brothers, Sampson M. Glass of Nathalie, Wilson W. Glass of Rustburg and Hubert S. Glass of Sebring, Fla.
Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Republican Grove by the Rev. Shelton Miles.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 tonight at Powell Funeral Home.

Robert Rash
LANCASTER, CALIF. - Graveside military rites were conducted for Robert Marshall Rash, 60, on March 11. His death was sudden after suffering an attack at his home on Monday, March 6.
He was buried at Assumption cemetery in Simi Valley.
Born Nov. 22, 1937, in Hillside, Md., he was the son of John Dewey and Myrtle Ammen Rash.
He lived his early life in Danville at Hughes Memorial Home. A 1955 graduate of Whitmell School, he retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Technical Sergeant. He later retired from GTE Telephone in Simi Valley. His service in the Air Force included two tours of duty in Vietnam.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary E. Cagly of Simi Valley; three sons, Robert M. Rash Jr. and William A. Rash of Simi Valley, and John Rash of San Francisco; a sister, Doris R. Gilbert of Sebring, Fla.; three brothers, James D. Rash of Port Charlotte, Fla., Edward D. Rash of Danville, Raymond S. Rash of Pleasant Garden, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.
