Benjamin Blount
CLOVER - Benjamin Franklin Blount, 79, 1121 Blounts Crossing Trail, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at his residence.
Born June 12, 1918, in Halifax County, he was a son of Benjamin Thompson Blount and Cannon Cook Blount.
He was married
to Ina Ligon Blount, who predeceased him.
He was a member of Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Bob Blount of Mt. Laurel; a brother, Owen Blount of Clover; and two grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Blount; and two brothers, Willie Blount and Dave Blount.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ralph Rice. Burial will be in Clover cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Richard Glass
CLOVER - Richard Ervin Glass, 57, 1043 Mill Road, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at his residence.
He was born May 5, 1940, in Halifax County.
He attended Revelation Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Glass and Daryl Glass, both of South Boston, and Timothy Glass of Clover; a sister, Rebecca Satterfield of Clarksville; a brother, Carter Glass of Clarksville; and two grandsons.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. today in Winns Creek Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs.

Ollie Jackson
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Ollie Shelton Jackson died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at a local nursing home.
Born Jan. 25, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was a daughter of Samuel Ferguson Shelton and Annie Yates Shelton.
She was married
to Herman B. Jackson, who predeceased her.
She graduated from Spring Garden High School in Virginia and also from Coneda Business College.
She was a member of Park Circle Presbyterian Church.
She was a retired secretary for Charles Webb Center.
She was a post master, flower show judge, and a member of Coastal Carolina Camilia Club, Camilia Garden Club, and Day Lily Club. She was also a member of the bowling league at Triangle and Ashley Lane and Golden Age Cobbestone Quilting Club.
Survivors include two sons, E. Wayne Jackson of North Charleston, S.C., and Herman B. Jackson of Walhalla, S.C.; two sisters, Katherine Shelton Rigney and Iris Shelton Salisbury, both of North Charleston, S.C.; three brothers, Edward Shelton of Newport News, Va., and Stuart Shelton of Chatham, Va., and Francis Shelton of Powhatan, Va.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. March 29, 1998, at Park Circle Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Holland Power
GRETNA - William Holland Power, 79, 4140 Edmunds Road, died Friday, March 27, 1998, at his residence.
Born April 25, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late William Henry Power and Lena Layne Power.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Adison Glen "Bunky" Vuncannon.
He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Tucker Power of the residence; a daughter, Shirley P. Vuncannon of Hurt; and a grandson, Ronald H. Vuncannon of Hurt.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 1998, at Colbert-Moran Chapel by the Rev. Roger Wilborn. Interment
will be in Gretna Burial Park.

Janie Simpson
Janie Cook Simpson, 82, 122 Courtland St., Apt. 136, died Thursday night, March 26, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 1, 1915, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., she was a daughter of Spencer James Cook and Katie Williams Cook.
On Nov. 16, 1966, she was married
to Howard V. Simpson, who predeceased her.
A resident of Danville for most of her life, she had been employed at Dan River Mills, Inc., for 35 years and later, at Danville Regional Medical Center for 15 years until her retirement in 1975.
She was a charter member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn Simpson Clayton of Roxboro, N.C.; two sons, Howard V. "Pete" Simpson Jr. of Danville and Robert N. Simpson of Hamtpon; a sister, Beulah Cook Ozment of Hampton; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. today in Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. Tom West.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, 140 Rockford Place, Danville.

Mary Spainhour
Mary Nelson Cox Spainhour, 80, died Friday afternoon, March 27, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born June 21, 1917, in Morganton, N.C., she was the daughter of Xenotophen H. Cox and Lulu Nelson Cox.
She was married
to Joseph Mason Spainhour, who predeceased her.
Most of her life was spent in Morganton, N.C., until moving to Danville in 1991 to make her home with her daughter.
She was of a member of First Presbyterian Church in Morganton, N.C.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy S. Cooper of Danville and Jane S. Witherspoon; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Ascension Lutheran Church by Pastor Caldwell Day. Burial will be at a later time in the Forest Hills cemetery in Morganton.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Judy S. Cooper, 660 Popular Trace.

Margaret Dickenson
NORFOLK - Margaret Boyer Dickenson, 64, 1453 Sweet Briar Ave., died suddenly Monday, March 23 at her residence.
Born in Chunju, Korea, she was a daughter of E.T. Boyer and Gladys Perkin Boyer, missionaries to Korea.
She was married
to the Rev. Daniel D. Dickenson, formerly of Danville, who survives.
She graduated from Madison College and had taught in Richmond Public Schools and at Norfolk Academy.
In recent years, the Dickensons lived in Lakeland, Fla., and Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Lansdale, Penn., and Nashville, Tenn.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk at the time of her death.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth D. Swartley of Norfolk; two sons, Daniel D. Dickenson III of Norfolk and Thomas B. Dickenson of Roanoke; two sisters, Elizabeth A. Boyer and Katherine B. Moore, both of Black Mountain, N.C.; and a brother, the Rev. Kenneth F. Boyer of Hampton.
A memorial service was conducted Wednesday, March 25 in Norfolk.
Raymond Mize
Raymond George Mize, 76, 5295 Mount Cross Rd., died Saturday, March 28 at his home following four months of declining health.
Born March 23, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Talmadge George Mize and Essie Blair Mize.
He was married
on Sept. 24, 1941, to Marjorie E. Kirks.
He lived most of his life in Pittsylvania County. After graduating from Whitmell Farm-Life High School, he worked as a welder and was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union No. 491. He was retired from the Pittsylvania County School System as a welding instructor at the Pittsylvania County Vocational Technical Center.
In addition to his wife, Marjorie E. Kirks Mize of the home, survivors include four daughters and sons-in law, Pamela M. and Barry Dalton Sr. of Blairs, Cynthia M. and Ed Wilborne, Sandra M. and Herbert Hardy, and June M. and Larry Harris, all of Danville; four granddaughters, Carrie Dalton of Blairs, Beth Hardy, Sheri Hardy, and Angela Harris, all of Danville; two grandsons, Barry Dalton Jr. of Norfolk and Larry Ray Harris of Danville; a sister, Mildred M. Giacobine of Pittsburgh, Penn.; a nephew, Jack R. Wennersten.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, March 30, at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Allen Holder and the Rev. R. Fletcher Hardy. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Robert Reid
Robert Dale Reid, 89, 109 Stokesland Ave., died Friday, March 27, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center follow a period of declining health. He had resided at Piney Forest Health Care Center since November 1997 before entering the hospital.
Born Oct. 5, 1908, in Mt. Airy, N.C., he was a son of Norman C. Reid and Leota Sturgill Reid.
He was married
to Anna Childress.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he worked for Dan River, Inc., in the spinning room. He played minor league baseball in his earlier years and coached numerous Little League baseball teams. A member of the Emanuel Church of the Brethren, he also served as a deacon.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Robert N. Reid of Fayetteville, N.C.; one daughter, Leota R. Boyd of Newport News; one brother, Raymond Reid of Mt. Airy, N.C.; one sister, Bertie Hill of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by a daughter, Patricia R. Dunlap.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Leonard Martin. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Judith Tobin
RICHMOND - Judith Ogburn Tobin, 59, died March 27, 1998.
She is survived by her husband, Conrad W. Tobin; her mother, Mary H. Ogburn; a brother, Robert Ogburn Jr.
A graduate of the Stuart Circle Hospital School of Nursing, she was a member of the alumni association.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Interment
will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park.

Eva Clark
Eva Frances Clark, 69, of 512 Doe St., Danville, died Friday, March 27, 1998, at her residence.
Born May 26, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Samuel H. Adkins and Nannie Lou Divens Adkins. She was a retired cook for G.W. High School and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
She was the widow of David J. Clark Sr. Survivors include a son, David J. Clark Jr., of the residence, and a sister, Tisha Vincent of New York.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday from Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. J.P. Griffith officiating. Interment
will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. She may be viewed from 4-8 p.m. today at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 512 Doe St.
Maude Edwards
GRETNA - Maude Toler Edwards, 101, of 265 Valley Road, died Sunday morning at her residence.
Born in Pittsylvania County May 13, 1896, she was the daughter of Nathaniel Toler and Mollie Crider Toler. Her husband was Sampson Edwards.
She was the last member of her immediate generation. She was a homemaker and a member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Gretna.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth E. Martin of the residence and Henrietta Witcher of Richmond. Two granddaughters, three grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Sallie Maude Witcher and Annie Mae Griffin; three sons, James O. Edwards, John A. Edwards and Linwood B. Edwards; three sisters, Roena Martin, Nora Mae Edwards and Sarah Ramsey; four brothers, Arvin Toler, Chest Toler, Lemon Toler and Nathaniel Toler.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the Piney Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Isaac Monroe with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence. Miller Funeral Home, Gretna, is in charge of arrangements.
