Jerene McCain
Jerene Knaack McCain, 83, 245 April Lane, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at her residence.
Born May 9, 1914, in Prospect, she was a daughter of Frank William Knaack and Ada Mae Lane Knaack.
She was married
to William Preston McCain Jr., who died in 1981.
A resident of the Danville area for most of her life, she was a retired bookkeeper, having worked at the Farmers Feed Mill and Danville Lumber Company.
She was a member of West Main Baptist Church and the First Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen Bass Turner of the residence; a stepson, Woodrow P. "Woody" McCain of Martinsville; a brother, Frank L. "Vernie" Knaack of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Irene K. Flora of Greensboro, N.C.; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Bruce Wilson and Pastor Edmund M. Komorowski.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday and other times at the residence, 245 April Lane.
Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Kathryn Moorefield
GLEN ALLEN - Kathryn Dale Moorefield, 40, 2701 Indale Road, died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at the Medical College of Virginia.
Born Jan. 26, 1958, in South Boston, she was the daughter of Watt J. Moorefield and June W. Moorefield, who survive.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of South Boston.
She was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and of Longwood College, where she was a member of Kapa Delta sorority.
In addition to her parents of Scottsburg, survivors include a brother, Michael Moorefield of Winchester.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel, South Boston, by the Rev. Bob Fox. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her parents, 6151 James D. Hagood Hwy.
Maria Adams
Maria Richardson Adams, 80, of 3196 Keeling Drive, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, in Piney Forest Health Care Center. She had been in declining health for three years.
Born Sept. 23, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of George Thomas Richardson and Ella Williams Richardson.
Mrs. Adams had lived her entire life in the Keeling community and in 1975 retired as a teacher with the Pittsylvania County School System.
She was a member of the Malmaison Primitive Baptist Church and a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
On Dec. 17, 1948, she was married
to Alpha Thornton Adams, who died Dec. 23, 1995.
Survivors include a brother, John J. Richardson of Keeling; nieces and nephews including Jean B. Shields of Dry Fork, Ann B. Merricks of Keeling, Dr. George T. Richardson of Vinton, Jack Richardson of Richmond, Kay R. Fusaro of Columbia, S.C., and Mary R. Piccinino of Virginia Beach.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main chapel by Elder C.B. Davis Jr., Elder Raymond Goad and Elder Julian R. Williams.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Ann B. Merricks, 2640 Keeling Drive.
James Bradley
James Richard Bradley, 57, 1211 Myrtle Ave., died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at his residence. He had been in declining health for five years.
Born Sept. 8, 1940, in Danville, he was a son of James H. Bradley and Margaret Swartz Bradley, who survives.
He had lived in Newport News and Danville and was retired on disability from the Danville Fire Department.
Bradley was of the Baptist faith.
He was married
to Shirley Pruitt Bradley, who died in December 1997.
Survivors in addition to his mother of Danville include two daughters, Cindy Marie Soyars of Dry Fork, and Regina Ann Talbott of Danville; a son, Randy Lee Bradley of Danville; two stepchildren, Ann Wells and Panayotis Pavlis, both of the residence; a brother, Ray Morris Bradley of Danville; four grandchildren and one step-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main chapel by the Rev. Barry Crumpton. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main chapel and other times at 1712 Buckhorn Road, residence of the daughter.
Bertha Crider
GRETNA - Bertha Shields Crider, 80, of 3752 Pittsville Road, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 18, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Emmett Shields and Maggie Haley Shields.
Survivors include her husband, Leo Crider of the residence; two brothers, Ervin Shields of Gretna, and Wendell Shields of Roanoke.
She was predeceased by a sister, Hester Simpson.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Everett Mills. Interment
will be in the Gretna Burial Park.

Marvin Dalton
Marvin "Bee" Dalton, 78, 136 Bowe St., died Saturday morning, April 4, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 20, 1919, Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Alison Tazewell Dalton & Havana Jane Shelton Dalton.
He was a member of Sunday School of Central Boulevard Church of God and was retired as a loom fixer in Dept. 4A of Dan River Inc.
On May 14, 1946, he was married
to Ethel Prevette Dalton, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Marvin B. Dalton Jr. and his wife, Jeanette G. Dalton of Ruffin, N.C., Dowin T. Dalton and his wife, Meryl L. Dalton of Bachelors Hall, and Roger W. Dalton of Lynchburg; two daughters, Janice D. Beadles and her husband, Timothy D. Beadles of Bachelors Hall, and Sue D. Touchstone and her husband, Morgan F. Touchstone of Danville; five sisters, Estelle D. Wilson, Erma D. Dodson, Gladys D. Giles, Lucy Phyllis Mills and Gloria D. Gosney, all of Danville; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Acey Dalton and James "Pyrtle" Dalton; and one sister, Magdalene D. Mills.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. John Meadows. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

W.S. "Bill" Dollarhite
ROANOKE - The funeral for W.S. "Bill" Dollarhite, 75, 5204 Oakmont Circle, will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Ben Burks and the Rev. Warren Lowery. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park with military honors performed by American Legion Memorial Post 325.
He died Friday morning, April 3, 1998, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Martinsville.
Born March 26, 1923, in Patrick County, he was the son of Sam T. Dollarhite and Nora Heath Dollarhite.
He was married
to Mary C. Macy Dollarhite, who died April 18, 1996.
Dollarhite was owner and operator of Desco Termite & Pest Control until his retirement.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and American Legion Post 325.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and received the E.A.M.E. Service Metal, two Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and American Theatre Service Medal.
Survivors include a daughter, Jenny D. Arthur of Roanoke; a son-in-law, James P. Arthur of Roanoke; and a sister, Lena Grey of Westville, N.C.
Larry Hereford
Larry H. Hereford, 49, of 7916 Camilla Road, Norfolk, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the Norfolk General Hospital.
Born Nov. 11, 1948, he was the son of Howard Hereford and Frances Pritchett Hereford.
He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk. He was employed with South Boston Training Center.
Hereford was a graduate of John M. Langston High School, Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Old Dominion University in Norfolk.
Survivors include one sister, Sherby Jean Freeman of Danville; and two brothers, Bobby I. Pritchett and Warner Pritchett, both of Danville.
The family will receive friends at the home of his brother, Bobby Pritchett, 810 Lee St.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery.
Nancy Hyler
Nancy McCroskey Hyler, 59, of 9848 Martinsville Hwy., died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at her residence. She had been in declining health for six months.
Born Dec. 24, 1938, in Danville, she was a daughter of Frank McCroskey and Bertha McGuire McCroskey.
She had lived most of her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County and worked as a secretary at Averett College. She was formerly employed by the former First Virginia Bank South.
Mrs. Hyler was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Women's Investment Network.
On Nov. 15, 1958, she was married
to James B. Hyler, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Angela H. Wolf and her husband, Michael D. Wolf of Danville; a grandson, Cole Henderson Hyler Wolf of Danville; two sisters, Charmie Lorine Stallings of Baltimore, Md., and Patsy J. Cote of Danville; and one grandchild.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Cranston E. McCroskey and Richard L. McCroskey; and three sisters, Alease McCroskey, Inez McCormick and Estelle Pulliam.
A memorial service will be conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Baptist Church by the Rev. Ross Range Sr., Rev. Fletcher Hardy, Rev. Rodney Beals and Rev. Fred Clifton.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover chapel.

Elizabeth Newton
LYNCHBURG - Elizabeth Hudkins Newton, 86, of Casselberry, Fla., died Friday, April 3, 1998. She was the wife of the late Dr. Orson B. Newton.
She was born in Oklahoma, July 22, 1911, the daughter of the late Rezin Hudkins and Susan Wolfe Hudkins. She retired after 35 years of teaching in the Danville school system and was active with her husband in Piney Forest Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Sue Wright of Casselberry, Fla.; one son, Robert Wolfe of Greensboro, N.C.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Alzheimer's Association, 2110 Mizell Avenue, Winter Park, Fla., 32792.

Joseph Pentaude
Joseph Michael Pentaude, 60, of 182 Little Creek Drive, Milton, N.C., died Saturday afternoon, April 4, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for a year.
Born Aug. 23, 1937, he was a native of Dover, N.J., and was the son of Michael Pentaude and Hazel Crawn Pentaude.
Most of his life was spent in Dover. He had lived in Milton for the past 10 years.
He was employed by the Tultex Co. in Martinsville before retiring on disability.
Pentaude was a member of the Semora Baptist Church.
He married
the former Evelyn Ledford, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sisters, Mary Belanger of Lakeland, Fla., Cathy Lopez of Lakeland, Fla., and Patricia Kamps of Sturis, Mich.; one brother, Frank Pentaude of Branchville, N.J.; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date at the Semoral Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
