John Williams
Funeral services for John Baxter Williams, 84, 207 Rocklawn Ave., will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Keen Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Campbell. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park with Masonic rites preformed by Roman Eagle Lodge, No. 122, A.F. & A.M.
He died Monday morning, April 13, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 25, 1913, in Danville, he was a son of William H. Williams and Lucy Gillette Williams.
On May 26, 1954, he was married
to Reba Powell Williams, who survives.
He was a member and past usher of Keen Street Baptist Church and the Davis Bible Class. He was also a past master of Danville Scottish Rites, a member of Roman Eagle Lodge No. 122 A.F. & A.M. and a board member of Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked as a bus driver for Danville Traction and Power Company, and owned and operated Wayside Diner.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Dena W. Pearson of Danville; a son, John R. Williams of Lynchburg; a sister, Frances W. Payne of Danville; a brother, Ezra Williams of Kingsport, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Willie Fitzgerald
MT. VERNON, N.Y. - Willie Fitzgerald, 56, formerly of Chatham, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Shalom Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon.
Born Feb. 28, 1942, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was a son of William Fitzgerald and Francis Crawley, who survive.
In addition to his father of New York and his mother of Ohio, survivors include five brothers, William Edward Fitzgerald of Mt. Vernon, Shirland Fitzgerald of Danville, Va., and Sterland Fitzgerald of Rushburg, Va., and Jeffrey Fitzgerald and John Crawley, both of Cleveland, Ohio; and three sisters, Arnetha Terry of Mt. Vernon, Sandra Bristol of Cleveland, Ohio and Janice Harris of Chatham, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Wilson Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Terry Echols. Burial will be in the Fitzgerald Family cemetery.

Clarence Goins
Clarence Lea Goins, 58, 1789 Mill Creek Road, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born Oct. 25, 1939, in Louisville, Tenn., he was the son of Clarence Goins and Lillian Thompson Goins.
He was married
to Esther Fitzgerald Goins, who survives.
He was employed by the City of Danville, working as a cost estimator/inspector and fair housing officer. He also served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Clarence Lea Goins III of Danville; four sisters, Galene Crawford, Dalene Wilson and Bernice Crawford, all of Knoxville, Tenn., and Bobbie Ann Cook of Alcoa, Tenn.; and a grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father David V. McGuire. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
There will be a wake of Christian service from 7-8 tonight at the chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home.
All other times, the family will receive friends at the residence.
John Moss Jr.
CLOVER - John Horace Moss Jr., 73, 11226 James D. Hagood Hwy., died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at his residence.
Born Jan. 17, 1925, in Halifax County, he was a son of John Henry Moss and Minnie Dunkley Moss.
He was married
to Marian Bomar Moss, who survives.
He was a member of Clover Methodist Church and the American Legion.
In addition to his wife of Clover, survivors include a son, Horace A. Moss of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Maggie Edmondson of Clover and Corrie Griffin of South Boston; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his brother, Bill Moss.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Clover cemetery.

Danny Arrington
MARTINSVILLE - Danny Arrington, 54, 5401 Figsboro Road, died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County.
Born Jan. 13, 1944, in Franklin County, he was a son of John Herman Arrington and Ruby Robertson Arrington.
He was an area manager at Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Danville, for 27 years before retiring.
He was a member of Snow Creek Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Arrington of the residence; a son, Dean Arrington of Snow Creek; four brothers, Alvin Arrington of Salem, Tony Arrington of Ridgeway, Jimmy Arrington of Martinsville and Davis Arrington, his twin brother, of Efland; and a sister, Jean Cook of Matthews, N.C.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Snow Creek Christian Church by the Rev. Berlin Hanks and the Rev. Jim Compton. Burial will be in Snow Creek Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Norris Funeral Services, and other times at the residence.

'Bunny' Davis
RICHMOND - Bernard Franklin "Bunny" Davis, 74, died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond.
Born April 5, 1924, in Kent, R.I., he was a son of Robert Weldon Davis and Annie Zimmeriman Davis.
On Dec. 25, 1953, he was married
to Virginia Wells Davis, who survives.
He attended Bartlett Yancey High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a former licensed funeral director and had worked at several funeral homes in Virginia and North Carolina. Later, he was a sales representative for Royal Rubber Company and also Sumter Casket Company.
He was also the former owner and operator of Davis and Son Removal Service until his retirement in 1990.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Bernard F. Davis Jr. of Richmond; a brother, Wayne W. Davis of Danville; three sisters, Mae Oliver of Greensboro, N.C., Rose Etta Purguson of Hatborough, Pa., and Dorothy Ridenour of Apple Valley, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Weldon Davis Jr. and George Henry Davis.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. George Rumney.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Townes Funeral Home.

CHATHAM - Raleigh Mack Miller, 51, 2140 Irish Road, died Wednesday morning, April 15, 1998, at his residence.
Born July 31, 1946, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Charlie M. and Anglean Miller.
He was employed by James D. Logging Company.
Survivors include two sons, Ricky Miller and Bryson Miller, both of Java; a brother, William R. Miller of Hyattsville, Md.; four sisters, Joan Miller Womack, Doris D. Womack and Althea Miller, all of Ringgold, and Rita Jones of Chatham.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday at Riceville Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie Walker. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Joan Miller Womack, 1660 Ringgold Road, Ringgold.

Cora Thurman
Cora Moore Thurman, 96, died Wednesday night, April 15, 1998, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where she had been a patient for the past year.
Born July 23, 1901, in Vance County, N.C., she was the daughter of Howard Acie Moore and Adelaid Tucker Moore.
She was married
to William James Thurman Sr., who predeceased her.
A resident of Danville for most of her life, she retired from Dan River Inc., in 1942.
She was a member of Woodberry Hills Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Frances Thurman Christiansen of Bradenton, Fla., and Della Thurman Cox of Danville; a son, William "Bill" Thurman Jr. of Danville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by a daughter, Addie Howard; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Swicegood Chapel by the Rev. Lewis P. Harris and the Rev. Daryl S. Joyce. Burial will be in Mt. View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her son, William "Bill" Thurman Jr., 249 River Oak Drive.
Garland 'Tommy' Wall
Garland Author "Tommy" Wall, 53, 260 Eastwood Drive, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at his daughter's residence in Yuma, Ariz., after several years of declining health.
Born Jan. 11, 1945, in Danville, he was the son of the late Garland Wall and Mary G. Wall.
He served in the Vietnam War.
He was married
and moved to Yuma, where he raised his family.
For the past several years, he had lived in Danville until leaving to visit his children at the time of his death.
Survivors include three daughters, Angela W. Whalen and Tabbitha W. Narcisse, both of Yuma, and Melissa W. Hopkins of Irvin, Calif.; two sisters, Carolyn W. White of Ringgold and Judith W. Chaney of Blairs; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 1998, at Living Water Ministry, Old Halifax Road, by the Rev. Eugene Lyles.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at 1846 Hunters Lane in Blairs.
Curtis Younger
Curtis Junior Younger, 36, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born June 5, 1959, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of William Curtis Younger and Roberta Younger, who survives.
He attended Halifax County public schools and graduated from Ferrum College. He was the first player of the 1977 team from Halifax County to sign to play college football.
He joined County Line Baptist Church at an early age, where he remained a member until his death.
In addition to his mother, survivors include two daughters, Melissa A. Younger and Mallory R. Younger, both Alexandria; six brothers, Wallace Younger, Cecil Younger and Carlos Younger, all of Nathalie, Odell Younger of Dumfries, Richard Younger of Danville and Jason Younger of Bold Springs; a sister, Annette Kirby of Baltimore; and his grandmother, Flossie Younger of Halifax.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at County Line Baptist Church by the Rev. Otis Dillard. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 2000 Logan Road, Nathalie.
Viewing of remains will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Daniel Funeral Home, 540 North Main St., Halifax. The remains will lie in state an hour prior to the service on Saturday.
