Recie Reynolds
Recie P. Reynolds, 79, of 19257 Franklin Turnpike, died Saturday afternoon, April 25, 1998, at Norfolk General Hospital.
Born July 23, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Reynard Pickeral and Hettie Mae Atkinson Pickeral.
She lived her earlier life in Danville before moving to Hampton, where she lived 30 years until 1976, when she moved back to Danville.
She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.T. Reynolds.
Survivors include one son, Roland B. Reynolds of Carrolton; two daughters, Lucy R. Albury of Silverdale, Wash., and Carolyn R. Watson of Chesapeake; three brothers, Alvin Pickeral, Leonard Pickeral and George Pickeral, all of Providence, N.C.; three sisters, Rena P. Kirks and Ruby P. Griffin, both of Providence, and Helen P. Wilson of Danville; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Royal. Burial in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends today 7-8:30 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home, Inc. and at other times will be at the residence, 19257 Franklin Turnpike.
Virginia Camden
STANLEY - Virginia I. Camden, 86, of Ridgepole Road, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998.
Born Oct. 22, 1911, in Danville, she was the only daughter of S. Wyatt and Lucy Berger Camden.
She was also predeceased by a brother, Sterling Wyatt Camden Jr., who died in 1953.
She was an alumna of Averett College, where she majored in music.
Her career was spent with the Navy Department in Washington, D.C. She retired to live in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Luray.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include a number of nephews, a great-niece and a number of great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Stanley.

Odell Crews
SCOTTSBURG - Odell Oliver Crews, 90, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.
She was born Oct. 16, 1907, in Halifax County.
Survivors include three daughters, Jolena Boyd of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Ada Jackson and Ellen Crews, both of Scottsburg; four sons, Stanford Crews and James Crews, both of Richmond, Nathaniel Crews Jr. of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Joe Crews of Queens, N.Y.; 26 grandchildren; and 74 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Crystal Hill Baptist Church in Crystal Hill by the Rev. Louis Leigh Sr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Remains will lie in state an hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1155 Wagstaff Lane, Scottsburg.

Dennis Haymore
Dennis H. Haymore, 72, 1777 Twin Arch Road, died Monday morning, April 27, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 27, 1926, in Danville, he was a son of Lemmie Spencer Haymore and Sallie Beth Shelton Haymore, who survives.
He was married
to Janice Irene Ryan Haymore, who survives. On Dec. 19, 1997, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
He was a member of Nor-Dan Church of Christ.
Until his retirement, he worked in No. 2 spin at Dan River Inc., and later worked for the Pittsylvania County School Board.
In addition to his wife of the residence and his mother of Danville, survivors include four daughters, Sue C. Moore and Dreama H. Hogan, both of Danville, and Janet L. Flanigan of Chatham and Saera K. Carter of Blairs; two sons, Pat Haymore of Danville and Dennie C. Haymore of Chatham; two sisters, Phyllis K. Shelton and Beulah M. Munford, both of Danville; a brother, Raymond D. Haymore of Danville; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Jimmy W. Haymore and David O. Haymore.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Nor-Dan Church of Christ by Pastor John Hill. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the church, and other times at the residence.

Edward Buckner
ALTON - Edward Lee Buckner, 79, 1185 Calvary Road, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.
Born April 24, 1919, in Halifax County, he was a son of Alfred F. Buckner and Mildred Long Buckner, who survives.
He was married
to Katherine "Rene" Wiles Buckner, who also survives.
He was retired from Westinghouse Elec. Corp.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife and his mother, both of Alton, survivors include two daughters, Vicki B. Montgomery and husband, Jim, of Danville, and Terri B. Clark and husband, Steve, of Ringgold; a sister, Annie Mae Williamson of Alton; two brothers, Julian R. Buckner of Danville and Garland W. Buckner of Laurel Grove; two grandsons, Tyler Clark and Andrew Clark; two step-granddaughters, Mary Sue Gibson and Lynn Strickland; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was also predeceased by two grandsons, Matthew Montgomery and Timothy Montgomery.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary United Methodist Church by the Rev. Darrell Campbell. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Bennie Dix
Bennie Lee Dix, 69, 172 Fairlawn Drive, died Friday, April 24, 1998, in Stone Mountain, Ga.
Born March 22, 1929, in East Chicago, Ind., he was the son of Dose Dix and Martha Morris Dix.
He was married
to Iva Jones Dix, who predeceased him.
He was a member of Holbrook Street Presbyterian Church and was a deacon.
During the Korean conflict, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He coached the Northside High School basketball team to a state championship in 1959 and the Chatham High School basketball team to a state championship in 1971. He also coached George Washington High School basketball team to the state semifinals in 1972. He retired as assistant principal of Tunstall High School.
He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the NAACP.
Survivors include a son, Rodney Morris Dix of Medford, N.J.; a daughter, Lisa Renae Dix of Stone Mountain, Ga.; a sister, Phyllis Robinson of East Chicago, Ind.; and a half sister, Ethel Rena Roberts of Gary, Ind.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Holbrook Street Presbyterian Church by the Rev. George Wilson. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Echo Duncan
Echo Elliott Duncan, 85, 238 Rocklawn Ave., died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Raleigh Community Hospital in Raleigh, N.C., after a month of declining health and four days in the hospital.
Born Feb. 1, 1913, in Danville, she was a daughter of Claude Elliott and Gracie Whisnant Elliott.
She was married
to Dewey Day Duncan, who died in 1945.
A resident of Danville for most of her life, she was retired from Dan River Mills Inc., where she worked as a weaver for more than 30 years.
She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a choir member and active with the Ladies Group of the Church. She was also a member of Dan River Retirees Club.
Survivors include a son, Wayne D. Elliott of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Garland Elliott of Maiden, N.C.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by three brothers, Leonard Elliott, Eugene Elliott and Edward R. Elliott; and a sister, Navor Elliott Harris.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Joe Beck and the Rev. Garland Elliott. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel.
John Hairston Sr.
CASCADE - John Hairston Sr., 82, 2460 Cascade Road, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at his residence.
A native of Pittsylvania County, he was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Fieldcrest-Cannon.
Survivors include his wife, Ardell Wilkerson Hairston of the residence; a daughter, Virgie M. Woods of Eden, N.C.; four sons, John Hairston Jr. of Eden, N.C., and James T. Hairston of Danville, Randy L. Hairston of Martinsville and Marvin J. Hairston of Stafford; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. John Tinsley. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville.

Clifford Hodge
CLIFTON FORGE - Clifford Arlan Hodge, 68, Briancliff Apartment 301, 800 W. Ridgeway St., died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, in Clifton Forge.
Born Nov. 27, 1929, in Bath County, he was a son of Roy H. Hodge and Mary Blanche Trainer Hodge.
He was a member of Warm Springs Presbyterian Church and Bolar Ruritan Club.
Survivors include five sisters, Genevieve Sanders of Fort Smith, Ark., and Dorothy Hurt and Paige Wheeler, both of Hot Springs, and Bettie Compton of Waynesboro and Wanda Smith of Staunton; and two brothers, Roy Hodge Jr. of Danville and Wayne Hodge of Staunton.
He was predeceased by a brother, Roland Hodge.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at McLaughlin Funeral Home, Hot Springs, by the Rev. John T. Hayter and the Rev. Dennis Walker. Burial will be in Warm Springs cemetery.

Kevin Jennings
NATHALIE - Kevin Lee Jennings, 14, 5131 Chestnut Road, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born May 20, 1983, in Halifax County, he was the son of Ronnie Lee Jennings and Dale Saunders Jennings, who survive.
In addition to his parents of Nathalie, survivors include a sister, Tabitha Michelle Jennings of Nathalie; his paternal grandmother, Mavis Clay Jennings of Nathalie; and his maternal grandparents, Louis and Barbara Saunders of Nathalie.
He was predeceased by a brother, Shawn Michael Jennings; and his paternal grandfather, Robert Lee Jennings.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Republican Grove by the Rev. Shelton Miles. Burial will be in the Saunders Family cemetery.

Ethel Riddle
Ethel Dill Riddle, 75, 156 Forestdale Drive, Hill Top Gardens, died suddenly Monday, April 27, 1998, at her residence.
Born July 1, 1922, in Danville, she was a daughter of Charles Edward Dill and Rose Kayser Dill.
A life long resident of Danville, she retired from the former Thalhimer's Department Store, where she worked in sales for more than 20 years.
She was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith R. Marsh of Midlothian; and three sisters, Helen D. Foster of Rocky Mount, Allie D. McGuire of Columbus, Ga., and Pearl D. Canupp of Danville.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Claude E. Dill and Herman W. Dill.
A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Michael Campbell.
