NATHALIE - Agnes Conner Anderson, 77, 5249 Hunting Creek Road, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 15, 1920, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of John David Conner and Mary Lou Wilborne Conner.
She was married
to Ralph Lacy Anderson. She was a member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Amy A. Throckmorton and Phyllis A. Wilmouth, both of Scottsburg; eight grandchildren; and other relatives.
She was predeceased by one sister, Audrey Imgram, and three brothers, Everett Conner, Tommy Conner and John Conner.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Hunting Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Lee Roy Davis, the Rev. Michael Phillips and the Rev. Brian Walls. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Powell Funeral Home. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence.
Ileen Austin
Ileen Wells Austin, 79, 224 Courtland St., Apt. 231, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at the Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Aug. 21, 1918, in Callands, she was the daughter of Beverly Benton Wells and Louise Kendricks Wells.
She was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
On Oct. 22, 1949, she was married
to James Pritchett Austin, who survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Kathy A. Elmore of Danville.
Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Don Davidson. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Barker Funeral Home. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence.
Margaret Brackin
STAUNTON - Margaret Anna Burns Brackin, 1010 Selma Boulevard, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Augusta Medical Center.
Born March 26, 1922, in Covington, she was the daughter of H. Lacy Burns Sr. and Anna Brackman.
She was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Covington High School. She also graduated from Covington Business School.
She worked for the Barr Stores and as the secretary for Granberry Memorial United Methodist Church in Covington. She later worked in the development office at Washington and Lee University, the Staunton Treasurer's Office, Community Residences Office and as the office associate at Christ United Methodist Church.
She was a member of the Staunton-Augusta Mental Health Association and had served as president of the Staunton Junior Women's Club and of the Emily Smith Auxiliary of King's Daughter's Hospital.
She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Hermitage Guild. She held various offices in the Staunton District of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John M. Brackin Jr; one son, the Rev. John M. Brackin III of Suffolk; and one sister, Mary Frances Hanger of Alderson, W. Va.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Central United Methodist Church by Dr. Daniel L. Garrett. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery at Covington at 3 p.m.

John Carr
ALTAVISTA - John Thomas Carr, 77, 180 Lamb Church Road, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg.
Born Nov. 2, 1920, in Halifax County, he was the son of John Howard Carr and Pearl Waller Carr.
He was retired from the Lynchburg Foundry. He was a member of First Buffalo Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Gayle C. Alexander, Charlene S. Carr and Dawn K. Carr, all of Altavista, Kathy A. Carr of Evington and Brenda L. Russell of Lynchburg; five step-daughters, Hattie Clark of Lynch Station, Barbara Martin and Fannie Graves, both of Hurt, Ivory Martin and Louise Hall, both of Gladys; one step-son, Andrew Martin of Gladys; three brothers, Herbert Hooker, Alvin Carr and Lewis O'Neil Carr, all of Altavista; four sisters, Laverne Hayes and Willie Mae Dews, both of Philadelphia, Jean Hall of Long Island and Ida Layne of Nathalie; eight grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; and 21 step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one sister, Silvia Manley and two brothers, Deroy Carr and Henry Carr.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from First Buffalo Baptist Church by the Rev. Melvin Palmer. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lillian Harris
Lillian H. Harris, 87, 173 White St., died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at her home.
Born March 7, 1911, in Raleigh, N.C., she was the widow of Charlie Harris.
She was retird from Danville Laundry. She was a member of James Street United Holiness Church.
Survivors include one son, George E. Harris of Queens, N.Y.; two daughters, Vivian H. Terry of Manhatten, N.Y. and Bessie Watlington of Danville; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday from James Street United Holiness Church by Elder A.L. Saunders. Interment
will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Harris may be viewed from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence.
Mary Harville
Mary Adkins Harville, 89, formerly of Bowl Drive in Whitmell, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home. She had been in the nursing home for two years and was in declining health for one year.
Born March 16, 1909, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Adkins and Lillie Jones Adkins.
She was a member of Whitmell Christian Church. She had been a resident of the Whitmell community since 1925.
She was a homemaker, and was married
to Shields Harville, who died Dec. 3, 1961.
Survivors include a brother, Willard T. Adkins of Danville; and a sister, Ruby A. Mills of Dry Fork.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Whitmell Christian Church by the Rev. Jack Oakes and the Rev. Ronald Graham. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Hilda McCubbins
AXTON - Hilda Easley McCubbins, 80, 6657 Medical Center Road, died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home. She had been in declining health for two years and was in the nursing home for one year.
Born March 22, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Roy C. Easley and Carrie Law Easley.
She spent her entire life in Pittsylvania County.
She was a member of Swansonville United Methodist Church where she was a choir member and a member of the United Methodist Women.
She was married
to Edwin M. McCubbins, who died Oct. 12, 1976.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Neal McCubbins of Eden, N.C., and Ralph Lee McCubbins of Axton; one brother, Leon L. Easley of Fresno, Calif.; one sister, Lois E. Thompson of Martinsville; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Swansonville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Linwood Daniel. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Maggie Stone
Maggie Hodges Stone, 84, 1236 West Main St., Apt. 210, died Wednesday night, April 29, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 30, 1913, in Chatham, she was the daughter of William Edward Hodges and Lula Ann Bowen Hodges.
She was married
to Barton Wade Stone, who predeceased her.
She was retired from Dan River Inc.
Most of her life was spent in Danville. She was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle.
Survivors include one daughter, Rachel Hodges Miller of Mount Pleasant, N.C.; one sister, Lucille Gammon of Chatham; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Lamarr Mooneyham.
The family will be at the residence.

Rubin Williams Jr., 88, 330 Vasser St., died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at his residence.
Born Feb. 25, 1910, in Danville, he was the son of Rubin Williams Sr. and Maggie Brandon Williams.
He was married
to Lyda Burrell Williams, who predeceased him.
He was employed by Danville Lumber Co. for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Williams of Danville and Peggy W. Belton of Lindenwold, N.J.; one sister, Mary W. Morris of Yanceyville, N.C.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home by the Rev. Cecil Bridgeforth. Interment
will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Tom Wilson
Abraham Thomas Wilson Sr., 57, 823-C Springfield Road, died Tuesday April 28, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after he suffered a heart attack and a stroke.
Born Sept. 18, 1940, in Eden, N.C., he was the son of Eddie Wilson and Martha Axsom Wilson.
He was a graduate of Morehead High School and the Atlanta School of Broadcasting.
he worked for several radio stations and was employed part-time at WVOV as an announcer.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie Wilson II of Radford and Tommy Wilson of Danville; and one brother, Mouar Wilson of Eden.
Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday in Dan View cemetery, Eden.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at 452 Seminole Trail, Danville.

Shirley Chambers
GRETNA - Shirley M. Chambers, 57, 2661 Hodnetts Road, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, April 30, 1998, at her residence.
Born in Pittsylvania County, Jan. 4, 1941, she was the daughter of Charlie W. Miller Sr. and Videlia Waller Miller.
She was married
to James Chambers, who survives.
She was an employee at the Mount Airy Elementary School cafeteria.
She was a member of Mount Airy Baptist Church and a member of Eastern Star #175.
Other survivors include two daughters, Sonya Chambers and Lashawn Chambers, both of Gretna; one son, James L. Chambers of Red Stone Arsenal, Ala.; one sister, Elizabeth Faison of Roxboro, N.C., and six grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one sister, Sarah Truitt; two brothers, Bishop Charles H. Miller Sr. and Jessie L. Miller; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. from the Mount Airy Baptist Church by the Rev. R.P. King with burial in the Chambers family cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the church Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
