James Foster Sr.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - James Earl Foster Sr., 1980 Teague St., died Friday, May 1, 1998 at his residence. He had been in declining health for several years.
Born March 13, 1911, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of Thomas T. Foster and Lillie Smith Foster.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Young Foster of the home; one daughter, Carolyn Green of South Daytona; two son, James Earl Foster Jr. of Arizona and Michael Foster of Maggie Valley, N.C.; one sister, Mattie Foster Hooper of Yanceyville, N.C.; one brother, Woodrow W. Foster of Yanceyville; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services and interment will be held May 4, 11 a.m. in Florida.
Richard Jones Jr.
Richard Lawrence Jones Jr., 57, of Lawrenceville, and formerly of Richmond, died Saturday, April 25, 1998 in Greenville Memorial Hospital, Emporia.
Born Aug. 13, 1940, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the Rev. Richard L. Jones Sr. and Rosa Bell Mullins Jones.
He was raised in Buckingham and Brunswick counties. He attended Oak Hill Academy and Brunswick County High School.
He was formerly employed by National Linen Service of Richmond. He was disabled.
Survivors include one son, Kevin Ferrell Jones of Sheboygan, Wis.; two sisters, Shelby J. Coley of Lawrenceville and Dorothy J. Richardson Farlow of Danville.
Graveside services were held April 29, 1998 at Canaan Church cemetery near Broadnax.
Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville was in charge of arrangements.
Ellis Lewis
Ellis Lewis, 92, 972 Piney Forest Road, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Aug. 9, 1905, in Danville, he was the son of Will Lewis and Lillie Lewis.
He was married
to Martha Roders, who predeceased him.
Survivors include two daughters, Marie Pool and Gloria Clark, both of Danville; one son, Albert Collins of Richmond; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Sinai Glorious Church of God. Interment
will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the residence.

Lynwood Parrish
Lynwood Henry Parrish, 45, 268 West Main St., died Wednesday, April 29, 1998.
He was the son of John Edward Parrish and Josephine Parrish Hall and was the step-son of William H. Hall.
He lived most of his life in the Danville area.
He worked for a maintenance company as a welder until 1993, when he had an on-the-job accident causing permanent disability.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother and step-father, survivors include one son, Justin Edwards Parrish, who lives with his mother, Misty Peak Parrish of Ringgold.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Bruce Wilson. The family will be at the residence of his mother and step-father, 268 West Main St.
Anderson Ridgeway
Anderson C. "Pick" Ridgeway, 67, 319 Hillcrest Ave., died Saturday, May 2, 1998 at Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for several months.
Born March 27, 1931, in Danville, he was the son of Charlie Walter Ridgeway and Lucille Wyatt Ridgeway.
He was retired from APAC Inc. as a roller operator. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include, close friend, Mae K. Wells; two sisters, Janie R. Wallace and Viola R. Vassar, both of Danville; one son, Charles A. Wells of Danville; and one grandchild.
Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. John Gentry.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Eleanor Claasen
Eleanor G. Claasen, 86, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born August 28, 1912, in New York City, she was the daughter of Edward Bennett and Ellen Bennett.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Claasen.
Survivors include a daughter, Audrey Wetherell of Lexington, N.C.; a son, Walter Claasen of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Theresa Hasher of Newark, Conn.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Highland Burial park by the Rev. David Abernathy. Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Richard Farmer
Richard Tap Farmer, 62, 776 Melvin Wrenn Road, Providence, N.C., died Saturday morning, May 2, 1998 at his residence. He had been in declining health for two months.
Born Aug. 31, 1935, in Halifax County, he was the son of Tap Binford Farmer and Betty Walker Durham, who survives.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jane Brooks Farmer, who died Dec. 20, 1993.
Most of his life was spent in Danville. He worked for Dan River Inc. for 45 years.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include one son, Michael Thomas Farmer of Danville; two daughters, Teresa Crumpton of Danville and Janet Boyd of Eden, N.C.; one brother, William "Billy" Farmer of Ringgold; three sisters, Paulette Sinclair, Rose Mae Tate and Betty Allgood, all of Danville; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Carl E. Burger. Interment
will be at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Betty Allgood, 150 Conway Road.

Margaret Watts Carter, 86, formerly of South Boston, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill.
Born May 11, 1911, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of James Richard Watts and Bertha Vaughan Watts.
She was married
to George Harry Carter, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Therman Cole of South Hill; a son, George H. Carter Jr. of Grafton; four sisters, Bertha W. Davis of Richmond, Cecelia W. Wilmoth of Scottsburg, Elizabeth W. Cole of South Boston and Lena W. Snead of Newport News; a brother, Harvey Watts of South Boston; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Main Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. George Gravitt and the Rev. Franklin Howell. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Barner Caudle
Barner Jones Caudle, 83, died Sunday night, May 3, 1998, at Brian Center in Yanceyville, N.C.
Born Sept. 9, 1914, in Rockingham County, N.C., she was a daughter of Robert Lee Jones and Lenoir Burton Jones.
She was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. She spent her entire life in the Pelham community before entering the Brian Center.
Survivors include two sons, James B. Caudle of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Ray R. Caudle of Danville; a sister, Leona Gray of Pelham, N.C.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. John H. Meadows.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Barker Funeral Home Chapel, and other times at the residence of her son, Ray Caudle, 614 Granville Drive, Danville, and also at the residence of her sister, Leona Gray, on Dibrell Road off N.C. 700 West in the Pelham community.
Vivian Jones
RICHMOND - Vivian Puckett Jones, 75, formerly of South Boston, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at her residence.
Born Nov. 1, 1922, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of William Puckett and Gladys Puckett Polly.
She was married
to J. Walter Jones Jr., who predeceased her.
Survivors include four daughters, Elinor J. Pyles and Melanie J. Rubeck, both of Richmond, Anne J. Wood of Wilmington, N.C., and Pamela S. Jones of Durham, N.C.; a son, W. Martin Jones of South Boston; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Russell Lee. There will be a private burial service later.
Mary Smith
Mary Cornelia Ferrell Smith, 72, 558 Cleveland St., died Friday, May 1, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 31, 1926, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the Rev. C.B. Ferrell and Elsie Dameron Ferrell.
She was married
to Stuart Smith Jr., who survives.
She worked in the public school system for many years as a dietician.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Sedalia Price of Danville; a son, the Rev. Haywood Smith of Danville; a sister, Inez Ferrell Anderson of Danville; two brothers, the Rev. Calvin Ferrell and the Rev. Royal Lee Ferrell, both of Danville; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesdsay at Loyal Baptist Church by the Rev. Haywood Smith Jr. and the Rev. Lovelle Maxwell. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
