Anne Jamison Powell
DANVILLE, Va. - Anne Jamison Powell, 83, of 161 Canterbury Road, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Nov. 20, 1918, in Bryan, Texas, she was the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. H.B. Jamison.
She was married on Aug. 27, 1941 to A.C. Powell, who survives.
She was educated in the Richmond City Schools and was a 1941 graduate of Danville Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for a number of years at the hospital until retirement in 1990. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany and the Wednesday Club.
In addition to her husband of Danville, she is survived by a son, A. Carter Powell II of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Gayle C. Powell of Danville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Roberta Watson.

Jerel Stephen Pyron
PELHAM, N.C. - Jerel Stephen Pyron, 22, of 8073 Old U.S. Highway 29, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 in an automobile accident in the Cascade community of Pittsylvania County.
Born Sept. 21, 1979, in Danville, Va., he was the son of Jerry Crowder Pyron and Rose Mary Allen Pyron.
He married Jennifer Barker Pyron on December 21, 2001. He lived most of his life in Pelham and worked with his father installing vinyl siding. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents of Pelham and his wife of the residence; he is survived by a brother, Jerry Scott Pyron of Providence; and a maternal grandmother, Kate Allen of Reidsville.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Frederick J. Vicks officiating. Interment will be in Lively Stone Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence of his parents, 8105 Old Highway 29.

Earl Samuel Robinson
DANVILLE, Va. - Earl Samuel Robinson, of 393 Gemstone Lane, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002.
Born Aug. 20, 1915, he was the son of John and Phronia Robinson of Sanford, Fla.
He lived in Richmond for many years until retiring to Danville 20 years ago. He gave many concerts in area churches and is known to many for playing dinner music at the King of the Sea Restaurant.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Washburn Robinson of the residence; four daughters, Joan Creed of Martinsville, Jean Daniels of Orange, Sandra Townsend of Poway, Calif. and Brenda Grant of Richmond; two brothers, John Robert Robinson and Kenneth James Robinson, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Mary Robinson of Jacksonville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one sister.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Lackey officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Susie Mayhew Rowland
HURT, Va. - Susie Mayhew Rowland, 80, of 211 School Road, Hurt, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 at the Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Bland David Rowland.
Born Nov. 28, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Thomas Mayhew and Ludemer Willis Mayhew. She was a retired employee of Burlington Industries and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Weeks and her husband Dave of Forest, and Brenda Hill and her husband William of Mechanicsville; a stepdaughter, Edith Rowland Bowler and her husband Charlie of Gretna; a stepson, Danny Rowland and his wife Patricia of Gretna; two sisters, Ina Midkiff and Virginia Dalton, both of Hurt; five grandchildren, Debbie Werthman, Stephen Hill, Karla Gibson, Karen Canfield and Kathryn Barret; three step-grandchildren, Debra Head, Jeffrey Bowler and David Bowler; eight great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Rudelle Mayhew, Raymond Mayhew, Hilton Mayhew and Woodrow Mayhew.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 in the Finch and Finch Chapel by the Rev. David Bayse. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Finch and Finch, Inc. Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista, from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday and other times at the residence.

Capitola Hiser Scales
AXTON, Va. - Capitola Hiser Scales, 89, of Morgan Ford Road, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2002, at Morehead Memorial Hospital, Eden, N.C.
She was born May 21, 1913, in Victor, W.Va.
She was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Eden, N.C. and worked with the Social Security Administration.
She is survived by a son, Edgar F. Scales of the residence.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Lukes Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in the Thornfield Farm Family Cemetery in Cascade.

Lucille Stanley Strader
DANVILLE, Va. - Lucille Stanley Strader, 88, of 209 Ashlyn Drive, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 30, 1914, in Danville, she was the daughter of William Stanley and Rosie Allen Stanley.
She lived her entire life in the Danville area, worked for Dan River, Inc. and also farmed. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was married to William Strader, who predeceased her in 1984.
She is survived by a son, Bobby G. Strader; two sisters, Pearl Garrett and Manerva Pruitt, all of Danville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
The graveside funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Schoolfield Cemetery with the Rev. Gilmer Setliff officiating.

Rev. Neal Cunningham
SEMORA, N.C. - Rev. Neal Cunningham, 36, of Semora, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002.
Born Jan. 31, 1966, he was a son of Sterling and Alice Cunningham, both of whom survive.
He was a native of Person County and attended public schools in Person County.
Survivors in addition to his mother and father include two brothers, Leroy Cunningham and Earl Cunningham; and two sisters, Mamie Whitlock of Semora and Eliane Wimbush of Danville.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Zion Level Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held Saturday from 12-5 p.m. at Plenty Funeral Home. There will be a wake at Zion Level Baptist Church Saturday from 7-8 p.m.
Wayne Clark Eanes
DANVILLE, Va. - Wayne Clark Eanes, 53, of 1497 Myrtle Ave., died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center Emergency Dept.
Born Aug. 2, 1949, in Danville, he was the son of the late Clark Samson Eanes and Margaret Nichols Eanes Hill.
He was employed as a mechanic for Motley's Car Connection.
He was married to Sandra B. Eanes, who predeceased him.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, David Dwayne Eanes and one step-son Jud Buchanan III, both of Danville; a daughter, Robin Michelle Eanes of Ringgold; a sister, Nancy L. Inge of Gretna; and three grandchildren.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating.

Virginia Farthing Howard
DANVILLE, Va. - Virginia Farthing Howard, 81, of West Main Street, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one day in the hospital.
Born March 17, 1921, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of William Edwin Farthing Sr. and Allie Davis Farthing.
She was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church. She lived her entire life in Danville, Virginia. She was a homemaker and had worked for Dan River Mills, Inc. in the billing department.
She was married to Thomas Allen Howard Sr., who predeceased her.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Allen Howard Jr. of Charlottesville and John William Howard of Southern Shores, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Laurie A. Howard of Southern Shores, N.C.; two brothers, Wilbur W. Farthing of Providence, N.C. and W.E. "Bill" Farthing of High Point, N.C.; four sisters, Sadie F. Saunders of Danville, Louise F. Tucker of Richmond, Ethel F. Wilkins of Blanch, N.C. and Helen F. Ledford of Kernersville, N.C.; a granddaughter, Cameron Howard; and a grandson, Noah Howard, both of Southern Shores, N.C.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Eldridge Farthing and Roy Farthing; and one sister, Jewell F. Adkins.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Jeffrey Wright officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Charles James 'C.J.' Lewis
KEELING, Va. - Charles James "C.J." Lewis, 26, of 903 Loop Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at his residence.
Born April 16, 1976, in Fort Campbell, Ky., he was the son of Julian C. Lewis Jr. and Joyce Evans Lewis.
Mr. Lewis lived most of his life in the Danville area and was employed as a security guard at Unique Packaging Company. He was also a very talented musician.
He served two years active duty with the U.S. Army and 18 months with the National Guard of Danville and was on active duty stationed at Aberdeen, Maryland.
He was dedicated to the Lord and a member of Faith Church Ministries and the Praise and Worship Team.
He is survived by his stepmother, Teresa Michelle Lewis; a daughter, Cathryn Marie Briarton of Abilene, Kan.; a sister, Kathy Lewis Clifton of Brosville; a stepsister, Christie Lynn Bean of Pelham, N.C.; a maternal grandmother, Ollie Evans of Yanceyville, N.C.; a step grandfather, Melvin C. Wilson Sr. of Danville; a step brother, Billy Wayne Bean Jr. of Pelham, N.C.; and one nephew.
He was predeceased by a brother, Jason Clifton Lewis.
The double graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Schoolfield Cemetery with the Rev. Louis Emerson officiating. Military honors will be given by the Dan River American Legion Post #1097 Honor Guard.

Julian Clifton Lewis Jr.
KEELING, Va. - Julian Clifton Lewis Jr., 51, of 903 Loop Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at his residence.
Born Jan. 1, 1951, in Danville, he was the son of Julian Clifton Lewis Sr. and Jeanette Ridgeway Wood.
Mr. Lewis lived most of his life in the Danville area and was an electrician with Dan River Mills. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam.
He was dedicated to the Lord and a member of Faith Church Ministries and the Praise and Worship Team.
He was married to Teresa Michelle Lewis, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kathy Lewis Clifton of Brosville; a sister, Helen Cope of Hampton; a father-in-law, Melvin C. Wilson Sr. of Danville; a stepdaughter, Christie Lynn Bean of Pelham, N.C.; a stepson, Billy Wayne Bean Jr. of Pelham, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Carolyn 'Sallie' Lee Ridgeway
DANVILLE, Va. - Miss Carolyn "Sallie" Lee Ridgeway, age 55 of 121 Naples Street died Thursday, October 31, 2002 at her residence. She had been ill for the past two months.
She was born in Danville, February 4, 1947, a daughter of the late Walker Richard Ridgeway and Effie Finney Ridgeway.
"Sallie" was a member of the Westover Hills Christian Church. She also attended in the past The Hatcher Center. She attended The Christian Training for the Retarded Sunday School at Saint Luke's United Methodist Church every Saturday with great enjoyment.
Surviving are her aunt: Mrs. Lois Finney Shelhorse of the home. A number of cousins, Darrell and Sandra Finney of Danville, David and Cynthia Finney of Collinsville, Ruth Wade of Martinsville, Billy Perrow of Appomattox, VA and Bob Finney of Martinsville.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2002 at 4 p.m. from the Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel by The Reverend Daryl Joyce. Entombment will follow the services.
