Elsie Wimmer
Elsie Haymore Wimmer, of 102 Greenwood Lane, died Friday, May 22, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
A native of Danville, she was the daughter of William Henry Haymore and Nettie Mitchell Haymore.
She was married
to Stanley Wimmer, who died in 1979.
A life long resident of Danville, she was a beauty shop owner-operator for many years prior to her retirement.
She was a member of Grace-Design United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her stepson, Nelson Wimmer Sr. of Christiansburg; a brother, Robert Haymore of Danville; four grandchildren and a step-grandchild; and 10 great-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Rudolph Rossman and the Rev. Robert Rossman Sr.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Floral Hills Memory Gardens by the Rev. Scott Holcomb-McLain.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Robert Rossman, 110 Forest Court.

Ellis Adams
BLAIRS - Ellis Meronia Adams, 71, 1821 Malmaison Road, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 12, 1926, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of William Adams and Sylvia Logan Adams.
He was married
to Ruth Dixon Adams, who survives.
He was a farmer for most of his life and attended the Pittsylvania County School system.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 244.
Survivors include three daughters, Delores Lampkin of Blairs, Vanessa Schoefield and Karen Harris, both of Danville; six sons, Tommy Adams, Keith Adams, and Timothy Adams, all of Blairs, Joe Adams of Durham, N.C., Willie Adams of Temple Hills, Md., and Donald Wayne Adams of Fort Washington, Md.; two sisters, Mildred Jones of Java and Phyllis Childress of Danville; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at Shockoe Baptist Church by the Rev. George H. Pass. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Doris Cline
HURT - Doris Benson Cline, 67, formerly of Hurt, died Friday, May 22, 1998, at Camelot Hall of Lynchburg.
Born April 26, 1931, in Mooresville, N.C., she was a daughter of Mildred Hudsepth Benson of Appomattox and the late Gordon Conrad Benson. Mrs. Cline was predeceased by her husband, Joe Merkson Cline.
Mrs. Cline and her late husband owned and operated White Rock Service Station for 21 years. She managed the Renan Cannery for a number of years and was a homemaker.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son, J.G. "Sonny" Cline and his wife, Rosemary, of Danville, four daughters, Donna Givens and her husband, Richard, of Lynchburg; Melodie Boswell and her husband, Bob, of Hurt; Cynthia Taylor of Hurt; and Zina Howell and her husband, Terry, of Hurt; one brother, Donald Benson, of Troutman, N.C., 10 grandchildren, two grandchildren and a large extended family.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, May 25, 1998, at Mount Hermon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Becky Cloud and the Rev. Brady Willis. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight 7 to 8:30 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Melodie Boswell, 104 Dogwood Lane, Hurt.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Gretna Rescue Squad or the Altavista Life Saving Crew.

SOUTH BOSTON - Ada Lea Cunningham, 77, 600 Main St., died Friday, May 22, 1998, at Berry Hill Nursing Home in South Boston.
Born July 18, 1920, in Blanch, N.C., she was the daughter of Robert Lea and Clara Scott Lea.
She was a member of River Zion Baptist Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Virginia and the Keene Memorial Temple No. 788 Daughters I.B.P.O.E. of W. of Danville.
Survivors include a sister, Luelena L. Poteat of Yanceyville, N.C.; and one brother, Frank Lea of Danville.
Funeral services will be today at 3 p.m. at River Zion Baptist Church in Blanch by the Rev. Tyrone Thornton. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

Frances Bullington
Frances Beaver Bullington, 89, died Friday morning, May 22, 1998, while in Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
She was born July 26, 1908, in Danville, the daughter of John Lafayette Beaver and Louise Azile Richardson Beaver.
Survivors include her daughter, Azile B. Roark of Martinsville; a sister, Jean B. Rice of Danville; and two-grandchildren.
A private funeral service was held on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. from Townes Funeral Home by the Rev. Ron Mateer. Interment
was in Green Hill cemetery.
Clyde Dance
Clyde Wesley Dance, 77, of 142 Claire St., Ridgeway, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born in Halifax County, March 18, 1921, he was the son of Harry G. Dance and Esther Anderson Dance.
He was a World War II veteran and was a member of the Ridgeway United Methodist Church. He was retired from the DuPont Company with more than 30 years service.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene McCubbins Dance of the home; two daughters, Carolyn D. Cox of Ridgeway and Sylvia Handy of Virginia Beach; one sister, Earlene White of Forest; two brothers, Albert Dance of Danville and Howard Dance of Burlington, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Waverly Dance.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Ridgeway United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Services and other times at the home.
Clarice Gauldin
Clarice Hundley Gauldin, 93, of 123 Winston Road, died Sunday morning, May 24, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a one-month decline in health.
She was born in the Callands community of Pittsylvania County on June 21, 1904, a daughter of Henry Hundley and Pearla Arnn Hundley.
She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Gauldin, who died March 20, 1978. She was also predeceased by two sons, George Thomas Gauldin and Kenneth Arnold Gauldin.
She spent most of her life in Danville where she worked in the sewing room at Dan River Inc. for many years and was a member of Schoolfield Baptist Church.
She was the last member of her generation of the family.
She is survived by one daughter, Beth C. Griffith of Danville; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. David R. Turbyfill and Dr. John H. LaRue. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 7-8 p.m., and at other times will be at her daughter's residence, 123 Winston Road.
Huell Matthews Sr.
SOUTH BOSTON - Huell W. Matthews Sr., 83, 1089 Dogwood Trail, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born May 24, 1914, in Halifax County, he was a son of Joseph Edward Matthews and Rosa Wilkins Matthews.
He was married
to Evelyn Lowery Matthews, who survives.
He was an automobile salesman at Crowell Motor Company.
He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church, Hyco Road Ruritan Club and Ducks Unlimited.
He was a member of Halifax County Board of Supervisors for 44 years, serving on numerous committees. He served in the CC Camp in the 1930s.
In addition to his wife of South Boston, survivors include two daughters, Janet Bacuzzi of Virginia Beach and Amy Harris of South Boston; a son, Huell W. Matthews Jr. of Ashland; a sister, Bessie Coates of Rustburg; a brother, Luther Matthews of South Boston; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home by the Rev. Don Davidson. Burial will be in Black Walnut Baptist Church cemetery in Cluster Springs.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
