Thelma Rogers
Thelma Maxey Rogers, 82, of 1249 Paradise Road, Alton, died June 6, 1998, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1915, in Pardee, she was the daughter of Thomas Edward Maxey and Vincie Snead Maxey.
She was married
to Will Arvil Rogers. She was a member of Alton Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by two daughters, Zelda R. Guill of Alton and Jean R. Reynolds of Callands; four sisters, Geneva Arthur of Maryville, Tenn., Veda Overton of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jeanette Spangler and Virginia Moore, both of Andrews, N.C.; three brothers, Frank Maxey of Tell City, Ind., Ron Maxey of Marble, N.C. and Keith Maxey of Ohio; and four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Alton Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Doug Spurlock.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home, South Boston, from 7 to 8 tonight, and other times at the residence.
Florence Self
Florence Lee Self, 81, of Morgan Ford Road, Ridgeway, died Friday evening, June 5, 1998, at her home.
Born in Leatherwood, she was a homemaker and seamstress. She was a member of Eden, N.C., Baptist Church.
Survivors include one brother, Ray Law of Eden, N.C.; and one sister, Ruby Adkins of Danville.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel, Eden, N.C., with Dr. Daryl Law and Dr. Johnny Adkins officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of David and Patricia Law, 6263 Morgan Ford Road, Ridgeway.
Geneva Dills
Geneva Brook Dills, 80, of 222 Courtland St., died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at her residence. She had been in declining health for two months.
Born April 19, 1918, in Roanoke, she was the daughter of Richard Bain Gibbs and Anna Brook Pinion Gibbs.
She had lived in Danville before moving to Graham, N.C., to live for several years before returning to Danville in 1992. She was a former member of Nall Memorial Baptist Church in Graham, and she was a present member of Westover Baptist Church.
She was first married
to Minnis Austin Newman, who died on Sept. 12, 1952. She was later married
to Rufus Moses Dills, who died March 6, 1989.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Newman Anderson of Ringgold; one sister, Louise C. Gibbs of Bedford; and one grandson.
A funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. today from the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Robert Vermillion. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will be at the residence of her daughter, 1048 Little Creek Road, State Road 732.
Roy Gunn
SANDY LEVEL - Roy W. Gunn, 59, of 281 Dr. Mease Drive, died Sunday morning in the Martinsville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Pittsylvania County, August 31, 1938.
He was a son of Robert and Loretta Woods Gunn.
He was a farmer and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by one son, Roy Wayne Casey of Franklin County; one brother, Joe Lewis Gunn of Alexandria; and three sisters, Dorothy Mae Coles, Ruby Womack and Lucy Thomas, all of Chatham.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Miller Funeral Home by Rev. Raymond Ramsey and Rev. Gene Ashworth with burial in the Mease Family cemetery.
The body may be viewed Tuesday from noon to 7:30 p.m. Miller Funeral Home of Gretna is in charge of arrangements.
Ben Hodges
Ben S. Hodges, 70, of Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday June 7, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was native of Martinsville, a former resident of Danville and had been a resident of Bristol since 1996.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired electrician of Dan River Mills. He was also a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Wooten Hodges; one daughter, Betty Renia of Bristol; one son, Bobby Lee Rutledge of Liberty, N.C.; one sister, Mary Osborne of Ridgeway; two brothers, Clayton Hodges of Tampa, Fla., and Billy Hodges of Atlanta. Also surviving are six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Akard Funeral Home Chapel in Bristol with Dr. Austin Cook and Rev. Gill Hawks officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Akard Funeral Home.
Buster Price
John "Buster" Oliver Price, 77, of 866 Holland Road, Pelham, N.C., died Friday, June 5, 1998, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 15, 1920, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of Columbus Price and Lurendy Coles Price.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include three daughters, Frances Price-Brown of Pelham, Shirley J. Price of the home and Mable D. Price of Suitland, Md.; one brother, Edward Price of Danville; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Nathan Scovens. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Clyde Adams
CASCADE - Clyde Olanda Adams, 73, 4869 Cascade Road, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Bryan Nursing Center in Yanceyville, N.C.
Born Nov. 7, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Mary Anna Adams Ingram, who survives.
He was married
to Carrie L. Adams, who survives.
He was a retired shift worker for Dan River Mills, Inc.
He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, president of senior choir, a custodian and on the Usher Board.
In addition to his wife of the residence and his mother of Danville, survivors include three sons, Sherman L. Adams, Timothy R. Adams and Perry T. Adams, all of Cascade; a daughter, Carolyn Y. Clark of Cascade; a brother, James Bosman of Danville; three sisters, Ruth I. Lea, Velma Ingram and Queen Dailey, all of Danville; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church, Cascade, by the Rev. John Tinsley. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The family is residing at the residence.

MOSELEY - Elizabeth Clark Anderson, 87, 6200 Woolridge Road, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Brandermill Woods Nursing Home in Midlothian.
Born Sept. 28, 1910, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Samuel Y. Clark and Ludie Hunt Clark.
She was married
to John Hudson Anderson Sr., who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker and a life long member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Joy Sunday School Class.
Survivors include a son, John H. Anderson Jr. of Moseley; a sister, Judson C. Bledsoe of South Boston; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. today in Oak Ridge cemetery in South Boston by Dr. Frank Riley Jr.

Anna Bealer
MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Anna Updike Bealer, 88, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at East Cooper Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 9, 1909, in Warren County, she was the daughter of Raeburn Welton Updike and Leona Brown Updike.
She was married
to Edwin A. Bealer, who predeceased her.
She attended the schools of Virginia and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs and the Danville Wednesday Club in Danville. She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Danville.
Survivors include a son, Edwin L. "Barry" Bealer of Mt. Pleasant; and two grandchildren, Stephanie Ann B. Townsend of Columbia, S.C., and Courtney Lynn Bealer of Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Cryptside, Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

NATHALIE - James Edward Cousins Jr., 65, died Friday, June 5, 1998, at Piney Forest Health Care Center in Danville.
He was born April 10, 1933, in Halifax County.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary Guthrie of Nathalie and Elmira Williams and Narcissia Robinson, both of New York; and two brothers, Mural Cousins of Danville and Ezekiel Cousins of North Carolina.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford, Garrett & Burton Funeral Home, Halifax, by the Rev. James Traynham. Burial will be in Bethel Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Louvinda 'Lula' Hairston
Louvinda "Lula" Terry Hairston, 1209 West Paxton St., died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born March 16, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Whitt Terry and Lula Kessee Terry.
She was married
to Robert Hairston, who survives.
She was employed with Southern Processing for many years.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Barbara Jackson of Danville; seven sisters, Dorothy Fitzgerald, Joanne Santos, Alice Hairston, Nellie Hairston and Shirley Terry, all of Danville, Pattie Terry of Richmond and Ruby Younger of Nathalie; and four brothers, James Gene Terry of Halifax and George Terry, Willie Lester Terry and Robert Terry, all of Danville.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home by Pastor Katherine Keen. Burial will be in Spirit Filled Holiness Church cemetery in Danville.

Jean Hudson
Jean Chattin Hudson, 73, 134 Mary Miles Drive, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health and two weeks in the hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jesse D. Chattin and Pearl Ester Holly Chattin.
She was married
to Smith Henry Hudson, who died May 31, 1983.
A life long resident of Danville and Pittsylvania County, she had worked at Dan River Mills for 18 years.
She had been a resident of Roman Eagle Memorial Home for the past year.
She was a member of Lakewood Evangelical Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Polly J. Scarce of the residence; a son, Ted Michael Hudson of Newport News; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Harold Delmont Chattin and Warren Douglas Chattin.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Mike Wiles. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
