Louise Lovelace

NATHALIE - Louise Lovelace, 86, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.

She was born on Oct. 5, 1912, in Halifax County.

Survivors include one daughter, Eunice Crews of Nathalie; two sisters, Emma Tucker of Nathalie, and Janie Williams of South Boston; one brother, James Lovelace of Nathalie; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Millstone Baptist Church with the Rev. Chester Spruill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Remains of the deceased will be available for viewing one hour prior to service.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Rosa Crews, 1238 Meadsville Road.

Crawford, Garrett and Burton Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Bernard Richardson

Bernard Samuel Richardson, 94, of 127 Mulberry Road, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.

Born Dec. 13, 1903, in Saxe, he was the son of Samuel J. Richardson and Lucy Bernard Richardson.

He was married to Ethel Bullington Richardson, who survives.

He lived his entire life in Danville, and was retired from Dibrell Brothers. He was a member of the Rivermont Baptist Church and a member of the Danville Elks Lodge No. 227.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one sister, Eva Richardson Motley of Chatham.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Jack Waddell officiating.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Charles Stroud

LEXINGTON, S.C. - Charles S. Stroud, 77, of 193 Deer Moss Trail, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998.

Born in York County, he was the son of W.C. and Nora Biggs Stroud.

He was married to Estelle Woodberry Stroud, who survives.

He was retired from Burns Security Agency and a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.

In addition to his wife of Lexington, survivors include one daughter, Sandra Bifano of Lexington; one son, Dwight S. Stroud of Charleston; one brother, Levi Stroud of Danville, Va.; two sisters, Carolesa Corcoran of Arizona, and Nina Frost of Spartanburg; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Woodrow Stroud and Boyce Stroud, both of Danville.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Rikard Nursing Home Chapel.

Caughman-Harman Funeral Homes Chapel in Lexington was in charge of arrangements.

Ocie Bosiger

GRETNA - Ocie Pigg Bosiger, 77, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at Gretna Health Care Center.

Born Sept. 24, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Luther Pigg and Sarah Elizabeth Hensley Pigg Overbey.

She was married to James Frederick Bosiger, who predeceased her.

She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Stacy Bosiger of Gretna; three sons, Billy Hardy of Pelham, N.C., Wayne Hardy and Lynn Hardy, both of Greensboro, N.C.; one brother, William Overbey of Gretna; one sister, Artie Overbey of Richmond; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Patricia Yeatts and Tammy Haskins; and a sister, Myrtle Moss.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Randy Parker officiating. Burial will be in the Bosiger family cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

John Doolin

John Doolin, 70 of 606 Northmont Blvd., died suddenly Tuesday morning, Dec. 8, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born June 11, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was the son of James Edmond Doolin and martha Barber Doolin.

He was in partnership with his brother at Doolin's Auto Sales for the past 50 years and was a former member of the Danville Moose Lodge. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Debra Doolin Easley of Pelham, N.C.; one son-in-law, Robert "Pete" Easley Jr., of Pelham, N.C.; one brother, Hugh Stanley Doolin of Danville; one sister, Evelyn Doolin East of Danville; one grandson, Robert Allen Easley III of Pelham, N.C.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Marvin M. Doolin and Clyde J. Doolin.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Barker Funeral Home Chaepl with the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Norine Hall

BLAIRS - Norine A. Hall, 92, of 1176 Carter Lodge Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, in Winter Haven, Fla.

Born April 25, 1906, in Pittsylvania county, she was the daughter of David James Atkinson and Mary Shields Atkinson.

She was married to Harold C. Hall Sr., who died in 1973.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Chestnut Level Baptist Church and former president of the Women's Missionary Union. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include one son, Harold C. "Pete" Hall Jr., of Lakes Wales, Fla.; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Jewell Hall Owen; two sisters, Naomi Logan and Mary Ellen Atkinson; four brothers, Abner Atkinson, S.W. Atkinson, Wallace Atkinson and Hopson Atkinson; one grandson and one granddaughter.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Chestnut Level Baptist Church with the Rev. Julian Griffin, the Rev. Brady Willis and the Rev. Rusty Mullins. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home and at other times at her grandson's residence, 120 Hickory Drive.

Agnes Jackson

Agnes Christina Percy Jackson, 77, 700 Northpointe Lane, Apt. 103, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health.

Born Feb. 15, 1921, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Joseph Lee Percy and Maude Louise Corchran Percy.

She was married July 19, 1941, to Wesley Franklin Jackson, who survives.

She was of the Catholic faith. She lived her life in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., and was a homemaker. She had been a resident of Danville since 1996.

She was the last surving member of her generation.

In addition to her husband, of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Katherine J. Oglesby of Millen, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Mary Louise Miller.

Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Una Schroeter

Una M. Schroeter, 90, of 600 Main St., died Friday evening, Dec. 4, 1998, at Elder Nursing Home in Rocky Mount.

Born May 29, 1908, in Jamaica, West Indies, she was the daughter of Phillip and Elfreda Schroeter.

She was a member of Christ The King Church for many years upon moving to Danville.

Survivors include one sister, Alice D. Davis of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Aston A. Schroeter of Danville and Laureston Schroeter of Bahamas, W.I.

Donated her body to medical science at Virginia Medical College. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 1172 Franklin Turnpike, with the Rev. Jim Kleinfeller officiating.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the residence of her brother, 329 Greenwich Circle.

Linwood Walker

RINGGOLD - Linwood Bob Walker, 84, of 5349 Rockspring Road, died Wednesday, Dec.9, 1998, in Stratford Health Care Center after two years of declining health.

Born Aug. 14, 1914, in Riceville, he was the son of Arthur Cecil Walker and Clara Jane Douglass Walker.

He was married to Grace Darling Jones Walker, who survives.

He lived most of his life in Pittsylvania County. He worked as a warper at Dan River Inc. until his retirement. He was of the Baptist Faith. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.

He was the last survivor of his generation.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Bobby L. Walker of Danville and Alfred H. Walker of Virginia Beach; one daughter, Joan M. Lee of Augusta, Ga.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post 325.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn Yeatts, North Main Chapel.

George Waller

VERNON HILLS - George Anthony "Buck" Waller, 77, of 540 Hamilton Tract Road, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born April 20, 1921, in Martinsville, he was the son of Sam Waller and Louise Martin Waller.

He was married to Ona Peace Washington Waller, who predeceased him.

He was retired from Cohen Chemical Co. in Philadelphia, Pa. He was a member of Greater New Bethel Holiness Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen Antoinette Waller of Philadelphia; four sons, Dennis Waller, Frank Henry Waller of Manhattan, N.Y., Roy Junior Waller and Leonard Waller, both of Martinsville; one stepdaughter, Doris Randall of Philadelphia; a sister, Flora Williams of the Bronx, N.Y.; three brothers, Sandy Clay Waller, Jacob Waller, both of Martinsville, and Emmanuel Waller of Ridgeway; 34 grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Deliverance Faith Temple with the Rev. Carnell B. Waller officiating. The remains will be at Hairston Funeral Home. Burial will be in Peoples cemetery in Martinsville.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his son, Roy Junior Waller, 213 Massey St., Martinsville.

Thomas Baker

JAVA - Thomas Baker, 60, of 3028 Fordson Court, formerly of Java, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at his residence.

Born March 8, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Thomas Baker Sr. who predeceased him, and Christine Walker Baker, who survives.

He was married to Lola Baker, who survives.

He was a foreman for a trucking company and joined the Riceville Baptist Church at an early age.

In addition to his mother and wife, of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Phyllis of Danville, and Earma of Alexandria; three brothers, Charles Ray Baker of Danville, Sylvester Baker of Java, and Hilton Walker of Nathalie; three sisters, Julia Ann Broaddus of Richmond, Penncy Bobbitt of Newark, N.J., and Rosa Ferrell of Java.

A funeral will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Riceville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Walker officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends at the residence of Rosa Ferrell, 553 Brownsville Heights Lane, Java.

Miller Funeral Home in Gretna is in charge of arrangements.

Lonnie Barnes

Lonnie Lee Barnes, 86, of 134 Ireson St., died Thursday morning, Dec. 10, 1998, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after ten years of declining health.

Born Aug. 10, 1912, in Dodson, N.C., he was the son of Jim and Lou Barnes.

He was married March 22, 1931, to Gracie Shaw Barnes, who survives.

He was the last of his generation of the family. He lived most of his life in Danville, worked at Crowell Long Ford Co., and then retired from Dan River Mills after 50 years of service as a maintenance worker in the card room. He was a member of Riveroak Church of God, and was a musician.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, the Rev. Kenneth Barnes of Mount Clinton and Emery Barnes of Martinsville; three daughters, Lois B. Tuck Warren, Jeanne B. Compton and Patti B. Turner, all of Danville; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Riveroak Church of God with the Rev. Monroe Horne, the Rev. Tim Nuckles and the Rev. Ray Wiggs officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7-8:00 p.m. tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home and, at other times, at the residence of Pattie Turner, 203 Brentwood Drive.
