GRETNA, Va. - Jerry Wayne Brumfield, age 47, of 1477 Sandy Road, Gretna, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at his residence.
Born May 11, 1955, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Jennie Dalton Brumfield of Gretna and the late Loyd Lee Brumfield. Jerry was a member of Summersett Baptist Church and a former employee of Klopman.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Virginia "Jennie" Brumfield of Gretna; a son, Bobby Cline of Gretna; a brother, Loyd G. "Buddy" Brumfield of Gretna; three sisters, Joe Ann Brumfield of Ringgold, Ethel B. Dalton of Gretna and Linda B. Shelton of Gretna; a devoted friend, Kathy Barbour of Gretna and her son Shane Barbour; 4 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2002, at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Bert Johnson. Burial will follow in the Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his mother, Jennie Brumfield, 1152 Sandy Road, Gretna.

Irene Henderson
KEELING, Va. - Irene Setliff Henderson, 74, of 8676 Old Richmond Road, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at her residence. She had been in declining health for eight years.
Born Oct. 7, 1927, in Danville, she was the daughter of Robert M. Setliff and Lola Setliff Setliff.
She was married Jan. 25, 1953, to Curtis Howard Henderson, who died Dec. 3, 1990. She had lived all of her life in Danville and had retired from C & P Telephone Co. where she had worked as a secretary for more than 40 years. She was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church and a member of the Pheaben Sunday School Class and a long time member of the Pioneer Club of the telephone company.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Henderson Mustain of Keeling; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one brother.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Keen Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Brown and the Rev. Tom Wright officiating. Interment will be at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Robert Russell Jones
DANVILLE, Va. - Robert Russell Jones, 84, of 120 Old Piney Forest Road Lot #14, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at his residence. He had been in declining health for two years.
Born May 23, 1918, in Dry Fork, he was a son of Robert G. Jones and Cora Yeatts Jones.
He was married to Daisy Jones Jones, who predeceased him. He lived in Pico, Calif., where he had worked for a merchandising firm as a truck driver. He retired to Boulder Springs, Nev., and moved to Danville 10 years ago. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Italian theater.
He is survived by two sisters, Ruby C. Jones and Zelma J. Gilbert, both of Danville; and one brother, Ray Yeatts Jones of Norfolk.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Henry Taylor and the Rev. Ira Yeatts officiating. Interment will be private and will be held at Highland Burial Park.
The family received friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and will receive friends at other times at the residence of his sister, Ruby Jones, 1649 North Main Street.

Bruce Love
DANVILLE, Va. - Edward Bruce Love, 78, of 124 Westhampton Ave. died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where he had been a resident since May.
Born Dec. 28, 1923, in Kenbridge, he was the son of Norman Neblette Love Sr. and Lillian Bell Love.
He was married to Rose Bennett Love, who survives.
He was a graduate of George Washington High School and attended VPI in Blacksburg. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a flight instructor and received a commission of second lieutenant.
He worked on the tobacco markets as a ticket marker in Danville and Whiteville, N.C., and later worked as a real estate broker for Southwood Realty Co. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include three daughters, Gale Scott and Jeannette Napier, both of Danville, and Susan Absher of Dillwyn; one son, Grady Love of Charlotte, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Norman Neblette Love Jr. and Harold Gray Love; and two sisters, Gertrude Love and Virginia Love.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Gary Milstead officiating.
The family will receive friends 7 p.m to 8 p.m. Saturday at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Ethel McClam
DANVILLE, Va. - Ethel Mae McClam, 79, of 731 Grove St., died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 1, 1922, in Dillon, S.C., she was a daughter of James Davis and Lela Carmichael.
She was married to Richard McClam, who predeceased her.
She is survived by one daughter, Michelle Venable of Danville; and one son, Larry McClam.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Beulah Baptist Church in Danville with the Rev. Frankie Jones officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Randolph Meade
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Captain Randolph Meade, Jr., USN (retired), a native of Danville, died of Parkinson's Disease on June 16, 2002, at his home in Annapolis, Maryland, at age 87.
Randolph Meade entered the US Naval Academy in 1932 shortly after his 17th birthday. Although he had not completed high school, thanks to tutoring by his cousin, the noted historian and Danville native, Robert D. Meade, he was able to pass the Academy's entrance exam and was one of the youngest members of his class. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1936 and spent the following 30 years in naval postings around the world.
After retiring from the Navy in 1966, he became Vice President of Business and Finance at the University of Delaware for seven years during a period of unprecedented growth for that institution. In 1973, he retired for a second time, and returned to Annapolis, Md.
From 1983 to 1996 Capt. Meade was a member of the Board of Directors of Annapolis Life Care, Inc., the management body for Ginger Cove, serving as Chairman of the Building Committee during the planning and construction phase of the Ginger Cove's development and then as Vice President of the Board during its early years of operation.
Until his health curtailed his activity, Captain Meade played squash, tennis and sailed as often as opportunity and weather allowed. He also fulfilled a lifelong dream by obtaining his private pilot's license at the age of 66. He was an avid fisherman, and designed and crafted his own surf fishing rods throughout his retirement. He was an expert marksman with multiple types of firearms, and he enjoyed hunting, primarily upland game and waterfowl, and also successfully competed in skeet and clay pigeon shooting competitions through the 1950's and 60's.
In addition to receiving a BS in Naval Science from the Naval Academy in 1936, Captain Meade also attended Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program in 1952, the National War College in 1958, and received a Masters in International Affairs from George Washington University in 1965.
Randolph Meade, Jr. was born on May 19, 1915, at 1150 Main Street, which was the home of his parents, the late Randolph Meade and Helen James Meade. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Audrey P. Meade. He is also survived by their children Kathleen Meade Craighill, of Annapolis, Maryland; Julie-Ann Meade Urban, of Ladenburg, Pennsylvania; Capt. Randolph Meade, III USCG, (Ret.), of Pembrook Pines, Florida; Susan Meade Fitzgerald, of Saint Petersburg, Florida, and by 6 grandchildren.
Services were held at the U.S. Naval Academy at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2002. Funeral arrangements were handled by the John M. Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis.

Kimberly Tysinger
HALIFAX, Va. - Kimberly Dawn Crowder Tysinger, 31, of 1111 Charles Lane, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 2, 1970 , she was the daughter of Charles Weatherford Crowder and Joan Andrews Crowder, who survive.
She was married to Darryl Layne Tysinger, who survives. She was a member of Halifax Presbyterian Church.
Survivors, in addition to her parents and husband, all of Halifax, include two daughters, Sara Delayne Tysinger and Samantha Dawn Tysinger, both of Halifax; one sister, Jennifer C. Chappell of Vernon Hill; and one brother, C.W. Crowder of Halifax.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at Halifax Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Terry Blevins officiating. Interment will be at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Kathleen Hines Barker
DANVILLE, Va. - Kathleen Hines Barker, of 213 Ethel Court, formerly of 13 Brown Lane, died August 28, 2002 at her residence.
Born July 26, 1929 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Claude Swanson Hines and Eva Hutcherson Hines.
She was married to Fred W. Barker on June 2, 1945. He predeceased her in 1999.
She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School Class.
She worked in the office of Dan River Mills for many years before retiring on disability.
She is survived by one sister, Amanda H. Ferguson, a number of nieces and nephews, in-laws who loved and helped through the years and many faithful friends who visited, loved and supported her.
She was predeceased by one brother, Claude Swanson Hines Jr. and one sister, Virginia H. Boswell.
She will always be remembered for her loving way, uncomplaining spirit and strong faith.
Although she was handicapped, she always showed love and concern for others.

DANVILLE, Va. - Jacqueline T. Carter, 49, of 230 Hamlin Avenue, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 18, 1953, in Danville, she was the daughter of Rufus Hagen and Elzonia T. Barnhart.
She was employed as a Training Coordinator for Central Piedmont Private Industry Council. She attended Bibleway Cathedral.
She is survived by one son, Mario Tillman of Danville; one daughter, Tiffany Tillman of the residence; two brothers, Jerome Tillman Sr. of Danville and Rufus L. Tillman of Washington, D.C.; and two sisters, Sylvia Hamlett and Wanda Hamlett, both of Danville.

DANVILLE, Va. - A. Geraldia M. Dalton, 86, of 243 Fagan Street, died Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at her residence.
Born June 9, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Henry Marshall and Betty Jane Owen Marshall, who are both deceased.
She had worked as a Battery Hand for Dan River, Inc. She was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church. She was a member of the Dan River Retirees Club, the Chapel Bible Class and of the Church Prayer Line.
She was married to James Pyrtle Dalton who predeceased her on June 23, 1995.
She is survived by four sons, James Denny Dalton and wife, Edna G. Dalton of Danville, Johnnie Wayne Dalton and wife, Ginger C. Dalton of Danville, Troy Lee Dalton and wife, Judy M. Dalton of Danville and Michael W. Wilson of Danville; two daughters, Virginia Dalton Wright and husband, Bobby G. Wright of Danville and Vickie Dalton Meeks and Eldridge R. Meeks Jr. of Danville; two grandsons, Steve Dalton of Newark, Del. and Bobby G. Wright of Eldersburg, Md.; three granddaughters, Cynthia B. Gould of Danville, Lou B. Hendricks of Danville and Susan W. Beaver of Saverna Park, Md.; one step-grandson, Eldridge R. Meeks III of Danville; and one great-grandson, Michael W. Wilson Jr. of Danville; four great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by five brothers, Irvin Carson Marshall, Wade Thomas Marshall, Charlie Earl Marshall, Hutch Jackson Marshall and Willie Randolph Marshall.

Larry Edmund Dodson
DANVILLE, Va. - Larry Edmund Dodson, 54, of 33 Carlson Avenue, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at the residence after seven months in declining health.
Born Jan. 18, 1948, in Danville, he was the son of Samuel Edmund Dodson, who predeceased him and Lena Ferris Dodson Walker, who survives.
He lived all of his life in Danville and was a member of Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a truck driver and for the past ten years, he was employed by Lasco Bathware, Inc. He was an antique car enthusiast and enjoyed attending car shows and cruise-ins.
In addition to his mother of Yanceyville, N.C., he is survived by his wife, Charlotte Hill Dodson; twin daughters, Stacy Dodson Gammon and Stephanie Dodson May, both of Danville; one brother, Lester Morris Dodson of Danville; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one sister, Brenda Kay Farmer.

Elsie Grantham
DANVILLE, Va. - Elsie LaRue Bratton Grantham, 74, of 14 Augusta Avenue, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at the residence.
Born Jan. 22, 1928, she was the daughter of Eli Harrison Bratton and Mary Lillie Martin Bratton.
She married Thomas Lamon Grantham on Feb. 25, 1948. She had lived in Concord, N.C. for 20 years before moving to Danville and retired from the former Woolworth downtown store where she had worked as cashier after 29 years and nine months of service. She was a member of Kerr Street United Methodist Church in Concord, N.C.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by a son, Gene Wayne Grantham of Danville; a daughter, Janis Grantham Wilborne of Dry Fork; a sister, Faye B. Troutman of Salisbury, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Carl Bratton.
