Linwood Walker
RINGGOLD - Linwood Bob Walker, 84, of 5349 Rockspring Road, died Wednesday, Dec.9, 1998, in Stratford Health Care Center after two years of declining health.
Born Aug. 14, 1914, in Riceville, he was the son of Arthur Cecil Walker and Clara Jane Douglass Walker.
He was married
to Grace Darling Jones Walker, who survives.
He lived most of his life in Pittsylvania County. He worked as a warper at Dan River Inc. until his retirement. He was of the Baptist Faith. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.
He was the last survivor of his generation.
In addition to his wife of Roman Eagle Nursing Home, survivors include two sons, Bobby L. Walker of Danville and Alfred H. Walker of Virginia Beach; one daughter, Joan M. Lee of Augusta, Ga.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Thom Grites officiating. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 325.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at Wrenn Yeatts, North Main Chapel.
Dudley Womack
HALIFAX - Dudley Womack, 89, of 3183 Ball Park Loop, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 9, 1909, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Mitchell Womack and Rebecca Sue Jones Womack.
He was educated in the Pittsylvania County public school system and spent most of his life as a farmer.
He was a member of Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving two Bronze Stars.
Survivors include one brother, James Thompson.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. George H. Pass officiating. Interment
will be at Highland Burial Park in Danville.
The family will receive friends at the residence. Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Stephen Roberts
ROANOKE - Stephen Kenneth Roberts, 47, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998.
He was the son of the late Frank E. Roberts and Bess Roberts, who survives.
He was married
to Rebecca D. Roberts, who survives.
He was retired as a chief warrant officer with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Virginia Heights Masonic Lodge No. 324, the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Kazim Temple. He was formerly a Federal Aviation Administration pilot examiner and an accident prevention counselor. He was also a hot air balloon pilot.
In addition to his mother and wife of Roanoke, survivors include one son, Jason C. Roberts of Roanoke; one mother-in-law, Martha A. Dood, of Danville; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Sue and John Wolfe of Roanoke, Mary and Tim Mize of Raleigh, N.C.; two sister-in-laws and husbands, Linda D. and Cecil Blankenship of Blue Ridge and Diana D. and William Fulton of Boyce; one brother-in-law and wife, John F. and Kristine Dodd of Pueblo, Colo.; several nieces and nephews; two great-nephews, one great-niece and many other loving relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel in Roanoke. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with military honors.
The family will receive friends Sunday 2-5 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel with a Masonic service beginning at 7 p.m.
Christine Waldren
Christine Waldren, 68, of 1202 Washington St., died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 12, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Otis H. Waldren and Addie Barley Waldren.
She was a licensed beautician and a seamstress. She was a member of Greater Deliverance Church under the pastorship of Roger L. Jackson.
Survivors include three sisters, Sarah Hunt, Gladys Roebuck, both of Danville, and Lucy Curtis of Maryland; and one brother, Curtis Waldren of Maryland.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Greater Deliverance Church with Pastor Roger L. Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Louise Lester Douglas McNeely
Louise Lester Douglas McNeely, 94, formerly of 117 Powell Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Aug. 6, 1904, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Peyton Lester and Julia Dodson Lester.
She was married
to George Thompson "Jeff" Douglas, who died Sept. 21, 1967. She later was married
to Earlie Dewey McNeely, who died Aug. 15, 1985.
She lived most of her childhood in the Keeling community but lived in Danville beginning in 1928. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Keeling.
McNeely is survived by her sister, Thelma Guerrant of Richmond.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Ethel DeRoyster, Dorothy White and Gennie Ingram; and one brother, Herman Lester.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Townes Funeral Home memorial chapel. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her sister-in-law, Rose Lester, of 13257 Old Richmond Road.

Evelyn Hodnett Worsham
NATHALIE - Evelyn Hodnett Worsham, 89, of 2011 Alex Lane, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Dec. 28, 1908, in Halifax County, Worsham was the daughter of Major Hodnett and Sallie Ann Hodnett. She was married
to Alex T. Worsham.
Worsham was a member of Clover Bottom Baptist Church and was a member of the Rebekah organization.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Wilmer Baber of Richmond; her son, Edward Curtis Worsham of Ashland; her sister, Doris Tucker of Chatham; her brother, Eugene Hodnett of Nathalie; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Clover Bottom Baptist Church with the Rev. James B. Crocker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence. Powell Funeral Home in South Boston is in charge of arrangements.
William Crews
SOUTH BOSTON - William Durelle Crews Sr., 69, of 3160 Old Custer Springs Road, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Durham, N.C.
Born May 21, 1929, in Saxe, he was the son of Garland Everett Crews and Irene King Crews.
He was married
to Bette Collins-Crews, who survives.
He was a member of South Boston Church of God, and former Boy Scout troop leader of troop No. 67, in Collinsville. He was a member of the order of the arrow.
He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952, as a Sergeant in Strategic Air Command. He was a former Virginia State Trooper and served as personell safety director for the Virginia Carolina Freight Lines.
He was a general contractor in Halifax County and South Boston.
In addition to his wife of South Boston, survivors include two daughters, Deborah Jalene Brancazio of Greensboro, N.C. and Deirdre Jayne Crews of South Boston; one son, William D. Crews Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.; his mother, Irene King Crews of South Boston; four sisters, Jeanette Landrum of Halifax, Margaret Watts of Charlottesville, Mary Oakley of South Boston, and Louise Bradshaw of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at South Boston Church of God with the Rev. Bill Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Anna Fuller
Anna Barnes Durham Fuller, 93, formerly of 439 Avondale Drive, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 12, 1998, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where she had been a resident since February 1996.
Born July 1, 1905, in Burlington, N.C., she was the daughter of Carson Herman Durham Sr. and Sallie Newlin Durham.
She was married
to William H. Fuller Jr., who died April 4, 1986.
She lived most of her life in Danville and was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church for over 70 years. She was a member of the Dorothea Henry Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a former member of the Book Club and the Wednesday Club.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Sarah Durham Powell and Mildred Durham Harvey; and one brother, Carson Herman Durham Jr.
Survivors include one son, William H. Fuller III of Danville; one daughter, Anne Wayne Patterson of Danville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jay Ashby officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.

Louise Lester Douglas McNeely

William Sutherlin Norman III
William Sutherlin Norman III, 60, of 186 Hawthorne Drive, died Saturday night, Dec. 12, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 10, 1938, in Danville, he was the son of William Sutherlin Norman Jr. and Alice Whiteside Norman.
He was a graduate of Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army.
He was a vice-president with Scott and Stringfellow, Inc. and was formerly associated with Dan River Inc. for 22 years.
A member and past deacon of First Presbyterian Church, he was also a member of the German Club, the Kiwanis Club and the Danville Golf Club.
Survivors include his wife of the residence, Lee Myers Norman; three daughters, Susan Ladd Norman and Alice Whiteside Norman, both of Charlotte, N.C. and Laura Pickens Norman of Danville; one son William Sutherlin Norman IV of Danville; one brother, Cooper Whiteside Norman of Fairfield, Iowa; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jack F. Heinsohn Jr. officiating.
