Lucille Stephens
Lucille Carter Stephens, 90, of 312 Montague St., died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 19, 1908, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Eugene Carter and Malinda Stutz Carter.
She was married
to Walter L. Stephens, who died Feb. 8, 1985.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, June and John Holshouser of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Walter L. "Boots" Stephens.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Joey Faucette officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her grandson, David Holshouser, 108 Janice Court (Southwyck Farms).

Nannie Tate
Nannie Meadows Tate, 83, of 2816 R&L Smith Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at Piney Forest Health Care Center after two years of declining health.
Born July 6, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Keatts and Mary Gregory Keatts.
She had lived all of her life in Pittsylvania County, where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Mountain View Emmanuel Holiness Church.
She was married
to Luther Martin Meadows, who died in 1944, and was later married
Feb. 5, 1955, to Ruben Vincent Tate, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Peggy M. Siggers and Joyce M. Merricks, both of Danville, and Jane M. Turner of Pelham, N.C.; one son, Ronnie Tate of Danville; two stepdaughters, Nellie T. Wiles of Danville and Elaine Tate of Callands; one stepson, Nelson Raymond Tate of Danville; two sisters, Elsie K. Parsons of Hurt and Dollie K. Ayers of Altavista; one brother, Ulyes Keatts of Altavista; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Joey Yeatts officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Joyce M. Merricks, 3308 R&L Smith Drive, off State Route 41.
Harry Terrell
Harry James Terrell, 83, of 106 Withers Circle, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, in Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.
Born June 15, 1915, in Danville, he was the son of William W. Terrell and Liza Earp Terrell.
A lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, he served in the armed forces during World War II.
He was married
to Ruby Suit Terrell.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, survivors include two stepsons, Charles M. Williams and Douglas W. Williams, both of Chatham; a granddaughter, Robin P. Taylor of Danville; two grandsons, Michael R. Williams of Nokesville and James H. Williams of Chatham; three great-grandsons, Douglas Reynolds, Allen Reynolds and Samuel Reynolds.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Cora Sue T. Payne.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday from the graveside in Leemont cemetery with the Rev. James Mathieson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

James Clark
James Franklin Clark, 84, of 817 Kristen Lane died Friday, December 18, 1998, at Duke Medical Center. He had been in declining health during the past year.
Born on August 8, 1914 in Dubies, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank H. Clark and the late Jeanne A. Donaldson Clark.
He had lived in Marlton, N.J., for 14 years prior to moving to Vineland, N.J., where he resided for 15 years before moving to Danville, where he lived the last 4 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Branch 57 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fleet Reserve Association.
He had served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, holding the rank of Chief Petty Officer, ENC (SS) at his retirement. His awards included the American Defense, American Area, World War II Victory, Asiatic-Pacific, European-African-Middle Eastern, Navy Occupation with "E", National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 4 stars and Submarine Combat Insigna.
On October 25, 1941, Clark married
Marie Glass.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Deborah J. Clark-Scocca of Apex, N.C.; a son, Gregory W. Clark of Danville; 2 sisters, Effie C. Felker of Carrolton, Ga.; and MaryAnne C. Kessel of North Lake, Ill., and 8 grandchildren.
Clark was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Archie Clark.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Father David McGuire officiating. The family will receive friends and hold a vigil at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel Monday at 7 p.m.
Verna Dixon
Verna Rose Freeman Dixon, 85, of 580 Inman Road, died Saturday December 19, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born February 12, 1913 in Independence, she was the daughter of John Preston and Margery Edwards Freeman.
She was married
to Martin Irvin Dixon Sr., who died March 24, 1998.
She lived her early adult life in Schoolfield and for 52 years in Brosville. She was a homemaker, and a member of Riveroak Church of God where she taught Sunday school for a number of years.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law; Margaret Alees D. and Jack Robinson of Brosville, and Nancy D. and Ruben Moore of Danville; four sons, Glen R. Dixon and Jimmy R. Dixon, both of Danville, Otis F. and Betty Dixon of Hickory, N.C., and Martin I. Jr. and Linda Dixon of Brosville, as well as 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by five brothers; Roscoe Freeman, Corbett Freeman, Kyle Talmadge Freeman, the Rev. Paul Freeman, and John Roy Freeman, and two sisters; Mae Scott Ruhland and Stella Massie Giadella.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Tim Nuckles. Interment
will follow at the Dixon Family cemetery at Brosville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence.

Shirley Harville
Shirley Ramsey Harville, 63, of 120 Old Piney Forest Road, Lot 35, died Saturday morning December 19, 1998 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Danville on November 20, 1935, daughter of Alvin D. Ramsey and Roxie Kingery Ramsey.
Harville spent most of her life in Danville. She worked as an inspector for Owen-Brockway Glass.
She is survived by her husband Marvin W. Harville, and two brothers William Ramsey of Danville and Billy Ramsey of California.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Jack Robertson. The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. and, at other times, at the residence.
Jessie Hubbard
REIDSVILLE - Jessie Reynolds Hubbard, 92, formerly of 435 Oregon Hill Road, died Friday afternoon, Dec. 18, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been a patient in Brian Center, Yanceyville, N.C., for two years.
Born Dec. 17, 1906, in the Grit community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Walter Reynolds and Nannie Glenn Reynolds.
She was married
to Fred Lawson Hubbard, who died Oct. 12, 1964.
She was a homemaker and a member of Lively Stones Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan H. French of Oregon Hill Road and Sue H. Barber of Eden; four sisters, Glennie Bobbitt, Nellie Haney, both of Winston-Salem, Brownie Saunders of Tennessee and Ellie Layne of Renan; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Stafford G. Hubbard; a sister, Georgia Hatcher; and two brothers, Horace Reynolds and Russell Reynolds.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel in Danville, Va., with the Rev. Jack Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the Mulberry Baptist Church cemetery near Gretna.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of her daughter at 435 Oregon Hill Road.
Alicia Massey
WIRTZ - Alicia Ann Kendrick Massey, 41, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998.
She was born Feb. 2, 1957. She was the daughter of Norman Kendrick of Penhook and Ann Marie Reynolds Ittner of Chesterfield County.
She was married
to Larry Allen Massey, who predeceased her.
Survivors include her parents; one son, Justin Lee Kendrick of the residence; one daughter, Yvette Lee Kendrick of Chatham; her brother, Michael D. Kendrick of Chesterfield County; and her step-mother Terry Lynn Kendrick of Penhook.
She was predeceased by one grandson.

RALEIGH-Chloe Holder Wall, 101, formerly of Rock Quarry Road, died Saturday at the Brian Center, Clayton.
She was born June 24, 1897.
She is survived by three sons, Homer Wall of Semora, Dudley Wall of Durham, Harold Wall of Raleigh; two daughters Peggy Goodwin of Raleigh; and Shirley Cross Nanney of Aurora; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-great grandchildren.
The family will be at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner, 3-5 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Rock Quarry Road. Burial will follow in the Bagwell cemetery, adjacent to the church.
Zettie Colvard
Zettie McDaniel Colvard, age 80, of 616 Kemper Road, died Saturday morning, December 19, 1998 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a one-year decline in health.
She was born in Floyd County on August 11, 1918, a daughter of Ausbon Dowl McDaniel and Rosie Lawson McDaniel.
She was predeceased by her husband Earl Colvard on April 1, 1988. She spent most of her life in Danville, where she worked for Dan River, Inc. before retiring in August 1980.
Survivors include one daughter; Earline C. Massey of Danville, two brothers; Preston McDaniel of Wood River, Ill., and Gilmer McDaniel of Danville; three sisters; Bertha Turner of Piedmont, S.C., Pauline Slade of Florida, and Pearlie Lane of Danville; and one grandson.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park by Elder Douglas Curry. The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home today 7-8:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence.
Louise Adams
Louise McGill Adams, 64, of 3148 Westover Drive, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998 at Danville Regional Medical Center after twenty years of declining health.
Born Dec. 23, 1933, in Danville, she was the daughter of James Henry McGill and Pearl Booth McGill.
She was married
April 11, 1975, to Winfred Shields Adams, who survives.
She lived her entire life in Danville. She was retired from Virginia National Bank where she worked as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where she served as a Clerk Officer.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters Cathy J. Duffer of Danville and Jo Ann Adams of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one son Tony Kevin Adams of Conway, S.C.; one niece, Vickie McGill Dickie of Texas; one grandson, Kevin Adams of Conway, S.C. and one granddaughter Kira Adams of Conway, S.C.
She was predeceased by one son Dale Adams and one brother Odell McGill.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Baptist Church with the Rev. William C. Blalock and the Rev. Gerald Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
