Pauline B. Sites
Pauline Bumphrey Sites, 91, of Petersburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg, W.Va., where she had resided the past three months.
Mrs. Sites was born June 21, 1913, in Hardy County, South Fork, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Andrew Bumphrey and Lou Mongold Bumphrey.
She attended the North Mill Creek Baptist Church.
Her husband, Orville G. Sites, preceded her in death Aug. 10, 1987.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Lou Krokus of Oakton and Mary Claudine Meekins of Fredericksburg; four sons, Orville Jackson Sites and Marlin Dale Sites, both of Dorcas, W.Va., Donald Edward Sites of Locust Grove and Randall Harvey Sites of Dorcas, W.Va.; a sister, Lena Bumphrey Butler of Falls Church, 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Paul Donaldson will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the North Mill Creek Cemetery in Dorcas, W.Va.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nina C. Helbert
Nina Christina Hoover Helbert, 97, of Harrisonburg, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident for the past two months.
Mrs. Helbert was born Dec. 9, 1907, in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late William Luther and Sarah White Hoover.
She graduated from Rockingham County schools. She had been employed by Joseph Neys for 25 years before retiring in 1985, and was a seamstress for many years. She was the oldest living member of the Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren.
On Dec. 17, 1929 she married Russell W. Helbert who preceded her in death in 1954.
She is survived by two daughters, Sarah H. Harlow of Mount Solon and Rebecca H. Summers of Harrisonburg; a stepson, Dr. Hollen Helbert of Broadway; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 15 stepgreat-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The Revs. J.D. Glick and Ron Wyrick will conduct a graveside service 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Bridgewater.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or a charity of choice.

Ralph H. Green
Ralph Howard Green, 88, of Mount Jackson, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Skyline Terrace Nursing Home in Woodstock.
Mr. Green was born May 22, 1916, in Pine Woods, and was the son of the late Abner Norman and Mary Ellen Williams Green.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a self-employed poultry grower with Green s Turkey Farm in Mount Jackson.
His wife, Ada Virginia "Sis" Green, preceded him in death.
He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Proctor of Mount Jackson; four sisters, Nina Will, Ruby Green and Gladys Litten, all of Mount Jackson and Patsy Weaver of Tenth Legion; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Thomas Rothgeb will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. Burial will follow at the Mount Jackson Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at their home at anytime. Friends may also call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Sandra A. Yates
Sandra Ann Yates, 68, of 500 Mechanic Street in Luray died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Page Memorial Hospital in Luray.
Ms. Yates was born June 13, 1936, in Luray, and was the daughter of the late Henkel Bauserman Yates and Harriett F. Broyles Yates.
She was a farmer and was a member of the Luray United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her companion of 22 years, Charles Sola Munson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Hazel M. Smith
Hazel Marie Dove Smith, 88, of Harrisonburg, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Avante Nursing Home in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Smith was born March 27, 1917, in Rockingham County, and was a daughter of the late Edward Joseph and Sarah Dove.
She retired from Rockingham Poultry in Timberville after 30 years of service and was a member of the Church of God.
On Sept. 3, 1933, she married Daniel Joseph Smith, who preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1982.
She is survived by three daughters, Peggy Sue Stanley of Stanley and Barbara Ann Golden and Sharon Kay Smith, both of Harrisonburg; five sons, Curtis Blair Smith of Broadway, Carroll Dean Smith of Moorefield, W.Va., Buddy Harold Smith and Richard Carson Smith, both of Harrisonburg and Edward Joseph Smith of Edinburg; a sister, Hilda Mohler of Singers Glen; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Laney Knight, Jim Rogers and Pastor Ron Graham will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Grove Church of the Brethren in Fulks Run. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Maurice M. Sours
Maurice Miller Sours, 80, of 9216 U.S. Highway 340 North, Rileyville, died Friday, April 1, 2005.
Mr. Sours was born May 28, 1924, in Rileyville, and was the son of the late James Lester Sours and Nellie May Strickler Sours.
He was a farmer.
On Aug. 30, 1949, he married Nannie Frances Fristoe, who survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Marceline Miller of Bentonville; two brothers, Nelson Sours of Rileyville and Gary Sours of Luray; two sisters, Linda Updike of Pratts and Nora C. Smeltzer of Rileyville; and a grandson.
Robert Hammer Jr. will conduct a graveside service 11 a.m. Tuesday at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Front Royal.

Alger B. Hawkins
Alger Bertram "Bert" Hawkins, 80, of 99 Elk Run Drive, Churchville, died Sunday (April 3, 2005) at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville.
Born Feb. 7, 1925 in Verona, he was a son of Lurty P. and Kathleen (Snapp) Hawkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Olga
Burtner Hawkins; a brother, Warren P. Hawkins; and a sister, Ann Hawkins Bennington.
He was a 1942 graduate of North River High School. Prior to retirement, he was a district conservationist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a member of Loch Willow Presbyterian Church, and had previously served on the session at Fairfield, New Providence and Mount Carmel Presbyterian Churches.
He was a member of various Ruritan Clubs, including the McDowell Ruritan Club, where he was a charter member. He was also a former district governor for the Ruritan Club.
During the past 15 years, he had resided in Florida in the winter months, where he had made numerous close friends.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Jo (Ralston) Hawkins; two daughters, Mary Bert Hawkins of Dayton and Beth Hawkins Sellers and husband, Harry, of Blue Ridge; a son, James L. Hawkins of Churchville; a sister, Frances Hawkins Fix of Churchville; five grandchildren, Whit Sellers and Caitie Sellers, both of Blue Ridge, Meg Sellers of Richmond, Jessica Hawkins of Churchville and JoNell Hawkins of Dayton.
Following a private burial in Green Hill Cemetery, a memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in Loch Willow Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Richard Forbes and Reed Hopkins.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Ethel B. Shaver
Ethel Batten Michael Shaver, 95, a resident of Ruxton Health of Staunton, and formerly of Mount Sidney, died Saturday, April 2, 2005.
Mrs. Shaver was born March 1, 1910, in Augusta County, and was the daughter of the late Willie and Minnie Garber Batten.
She lived in Augusta County all of her life. She graduated from State Teachers College (now James Madison University). She worked in the Frederick County School System for two years and retired from the Augusta County School System.
Mrs. Shaver was the oldest living member of Lebanon Church of the Brethren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, J.C. Michael and Marvin Shaver.
Survivors include two children, John Michael and Frank Michael both of Mount Sidney; six stepchildren, Lester Michael and Ruth Swink, both of Staunton, Edna Kiracofe of Churchville, Jean Moyer of Bridgewater, Buddy Shaver of Weyers Cave and Betty Conn of Mount Sidney; a number of grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
The Revs. Jimmy Ross and Wayne Pence will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. today at Lebanon Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah U.M. Church Cemetery.

Janet C. Wescott
Mrs. Janet Crantz Wescott, 65, a resident of 2253 Lake Terrace Drive in Harrisonburg, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
A daughter of the late William E. and Ruby Terry Crantz, she was born on Aug. 25, 1939, in Roanoke, Va., and moved to Harrisonburg at the age of four.
She graduated from Harrisonburg High School and attended Madison College.
Mrs. Wescott worked in the Rockingham Memorial Hospital Laboratory for 47 years before retiring. For nine years, she served as the Division Coordinator for Virginia with the Reach to Recovery Program of the American Cancer Society, volunteering a total of 22 years. She also served as Unit President of the Local American Cancer Society for seven years and faithfully visited breast cancer patients. She had been a volunteer for CASA since 2000.
On July 20, 1957, she married D. Dean Wescott who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Bret Lee Wescott and wife, Kathy, of Harrisonburg, Terry Hal Wescott and wife, Michelle, of Harrisonburg; two grandchildren, Chad and Lauren Kate Wescott; and Kim Shomo. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Lee Crantz.
Her body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. from Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Barbara J. Rhodes officiating. Private burial will be in Singers Glen Cemetery.
Members of the family will receive friends from 7 until 8 Monday evening at the funeral home.

Forrest R. Simmons
Forrest Roscoe Simmons, 91, of Timberville, died April 1, 2005, at Tandem Health Care in Woodstock.
He was born Oct. 31, 1913, in Franklin, W.Va., and was the son of the late Isaac Conrad and Florence Simmons Simmons.
He retired after 17 years with Anne Arundel Co. Public Services. He was a member of the Shekhinah Tabernacle and he had served in the C.C. Camps in West Virginia.
On Aug. 20, 1938, he married the former Anna Lee Kile, who died Aug. 5. 1988.
Surviving are one son, William R. Simmons and wife, Shannon, of Timberville; two daughters, Carolyn L. Simmons of Harrisonburg and Treva S. Orebaugh of Timberville; three grandchildren, Shawn Orebaugh, Kristy Helsley and Misty Schroeder; four stepgrandchidren, Tiffany Houck, Mikie Houck, Charity Harrod and Paige Harrod; three great-grandchildren, Michalla Schroeder, Aaron Schroeder and Tyler Helsley; three brothers, Henry Simmons of Lignum, Va., Robert Simmons of Rockland, Calif., and Isaac Simmons of Ithaca, N.Y.
A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Danny Moore and Rev. Bob Sutherland Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Shekhinah Tabernacle. Burial will be in the Rader Lutheran Church Cemetery in Timberville.

Hazel M. Diehl
Hazel Marie Lilly Diehl, age 88, an angel and servant of the Lord was called to heaven Friday, April 1, 2005.
Mrs. Diehl died at Avante Nursing Home, where she was a resident for 12 years. Born Feb. 7, 1917, in Clover Hill, Va., she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Gilmer) Lilly.
On June 7, 1947, she married Russell John Diehl, who passed away April 28, 1998. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Lee Roy Lilly, four sisters, Gladys Virginia Brush, Madeline Kathryn Trobaugh, Thelma Louise Wonderley and Nina I. Terry.
She was a wonderful woman with a heart of gold and infectious smile that she passed on to everyone she came in contact with. She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren in Harrisonburg, where she was a member of the Ladies Organization and a Sunday school teacher. She was devoted to her family and was a caregiver to all. Siblings, children and grandchildren were blessed to have her. She cared for her parents in her home until their deaths. A woman who gave so much, yet asked for so little.
She will be deeply missed and will live on in the hearts of those she left behind, two sons, Donald Wayne and Stanley John Diehl of Mount Crawford; three brothers, Paul Robert Lilly and wife, Hattie, of Harrisonburg, Mervin J. Lilly and wife, Norma, of Staunton; Glenn David Lilly and wife, Lillian, of Summer Duck, Va.; seven grandchildren, Gary Wayne Diehl of Mount Crawford, Crystal L. Ball and husband, Ray E. of Elkton, Jeffrey W. Holsinger and wife, Vicki, of Grottoes, Kimberly D. Plume of Augusta County, Douglas A. Diehl of Leesburg, Stephen M. Diehl of Mount Crawford, and James C. Cooper of Moyers, W.Va. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Travis R. Ball, Megan R. Ball, David J. Holsinger, Joshua W. Holsinger, Coty E. Plume and Lindsay J. Plume.

Paul C. Hinkle
Paul Clifford Hinkle, 89, of 108 Gregory St., Shenandoah, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Avante at Harrisonburg.
Mr. Hinkle was born May 24, 1913, in Orwigsburg, Pa., and was the son of the late John and Catherine Hinkle.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a 50-year Mason. He moved to Shenandoah from Leesburg in September.
His wife, Laura Elizabeth Moyer Hinkle, preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, David Moyer Hinkle of Shenandoah, and John William Hinkle of Hedgesville, W.Va.; a daughter, Kay Ann Hinkle of West Virginia; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at the Union Cemetery in Schuylkill-Haven, Pa.
His body was cremated at the Kyger & Trobaugh Crematory in Harrisonburg.

Russell B. McDorman
Russell Bronchen McDorman, 80, of Orchard Drive, Timberville, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mr. McDorman was born Jan. 22, 1922, in Rockingham County, and was a son of the late Herman Lee and Rosie McDorman Ray.
He was at truck driver for H.F.&T.B. Byrd in Timberville and attended Peak Pentecostal Church.
On Oct. 30, 1952, he married the former Violet Conley, who preceded him in death June 3, 1978.
Surviving are his stepmother, Mary Ray of Raleigh Springs; six daughters, Wanda Holsinger of Dayton, Sue Presgraves, Cynthia Miller, and Gaylynn Orencia, all of Timberville, Theresa Barb of Weyers Cave, and Lisa Constable of Baker, W.Va.; two half brothers, Wilson Ray of Grottoes and Nelson Ray of Bridgewater; a half sister, Louise Hoover of Brandywine, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Bob Sutherland will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at Crestview Church of God in Timberville. Burial will be at the Mount Clinton Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Maywood Cornwell
Maywood Cornwell, 85, of 11 Park Ave., Luray, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Whispering Pines Rest Home in Luray.
Mr. Cornwell was born March 9, 1917, in Virginia, and was a son of the late James S. Cornwell and Vashti Bruce Cornwell.
He was a member of the Luray Church of the Brethren and was a machinist at a textile company.
On March 25, 1943, he married Nina Ethel Bolen, who preceded him in death Dec. 12, 1999.
He is survived by a brother, the Rev. Earnest R. Cornwell of Partlow.
The funeral was held Tuesday at the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray with Pastor Chester Fisher and Elder H. Wayne Bryant officiating. Burial was at Beahm s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
Isaac Wenger Jr.
Isaac Ike Wenger Jr., 84, of 6031 Jesse Bennett Way, Linville, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at his home. He had been in failing health for several months.
Funeral arrangements were pending Tuesday night at McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
