Calvin L. Hupp
Calvin "Jim" Leon Hupp, 78, of 8724 Orkney Grade, Mount Jackson, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at the Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Hupp was born May 22, 1924, in Mount Clifton, and was the son of the late Ina Plaugher Raymond. His stepfather was the late Robert P. Raymond.
He graduated from Triplett High School in 1946 and was assistant foreman for the Metro Bus Company in Washington, D.C. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0199 in Woodstock, the Mount Jackson Moose Lodge No. 979, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2447 of Edinburg.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Virginia Hupp, whom he married May 7, 1947.
The Rev. Don Shull will conduct the funeral at 1 p.m. Monday at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mount Jackson. Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock with military honors by the Massanutten VFW Post 2447 of Edinburg.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ralph V. Caton
Ralph Vernon Caton, 65, of 165 Taylor Drive, in Stanley, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Caton was born Dec. 5, 1936, in Washington, D.C., and was a son of the late Ralph Henry Caton and Vivian Bell Knight Caton.
He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church and a service manager at Sears. He was a volunteer for the Stanley Fire Department and the Luray and Stanley rescue squads. He was a former Stanley town officer.
On May 4, 2000, he married Betty Jean Purdham, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Gary Caton and Greg Caton, both of Stanley, and Tory Caton of Luray; a brother Robert W. Caton of Stanley; and nine grandchildren.
Pastor Frank Good and the Rev. Marlon Breeden will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem Christian Church. Burial will be at Bethlehem Cemetery in Stanley.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray.
Pearl S. Moyer
Pearl S. Moyer, 82, of W. Summit Ave., Souderton, Pa., formerly of Quakertown, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, in Grand View Hospital, Sellersville, Pa. She was the wife of the late Pastor Lester K. Moyer.
She was a busy homemaker and supportive Pastor s wife. After her children were grown, she worked a number of years at the Friendly Bookstore, Quakertown, Pa.
Born in Franconia, Twp., Montgomery Co., Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edwin R. and Marion (Ruth) Styer.
She was a member of Salem Mennonite Church, Quakertown, Pa., where her late husband served as Pastor for many years.
She was a volunteer at St. Luke s Quakertown Hospital and when it was the former Quakertown Community Hospital for many years.
Surviving are two sons, L. Dale of Wyoming, Donald of Coopersburg, Pa.; three daughters, Rachel, wife of Richard Yoder of Coopersburg, Pa., Sharon, wife of Gerald Strite of Harrisonburg, Va., and Mary Jane, wife of Vernon Michael of Port Republic, Va.; a brother, Kermit Styer of Hatfield, Pa.; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, at Salem Mennonite Church, 41 E. Cherry Rd., Quakertown, Pa. Interment will follow in Towmencin Mennonite Cemetery, Kulpsville, Pa. Family and friends are invited to call 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at Souderton Mennonite Home, 207 W. Summit Ave., Souderton, Pa., and 10-11 a.m. June 3 at the church.

Lisa E. Simons
Lisa Elaine Simons, 38, of 196 Good Mill Road, Rileyville, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Ms. Simons was born Jan. 18, 1964, in Portland, Ore., and was a daughter of Larry Owen Yarger and Shirley L. Power Yarger of Milwaukie, Ore.
She had been a waitress at South Street Grill in Front Royal for the past five months.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son, Justin Yarger of Milwaukie, Ore.; two sisters, Catherine Hatfield of Oregon, and Debra Yarger of California; a brother, Scott Yarger of Oregon; her grandparents, Floella Foster Power and Leonard Power of Washington; and her fianc , Robert E. Sours II of Rileyville.
There will be a private memorial service.

Donald K. Ryan
Donald Kenneth Ryan, 62, of North Valley Pike, Broadway, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Ryan was born Dec. 15, 1939, in Augusta County, and was a son of the late Wilbur and Goldie Carroll Ryan.
He was the owner of Custom Tile and Carpet and Ryan s Trucking. He was also a tour bus driver for Richards in Luray. He was a member of Fairview Church of the Brethren.
On March 19, 1964, he married the former Janet Good, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth and Ross Ryan, both of Broadway; one brother, Larry Ryan of Crimora; three sisters, Peggy Serrett, Wanda Helmick and Deanna Ryan, all of Augusta County; and one granddaughter.
The Rev. Lewis Armentrout will conduct a memorial service 2 p.m. today at the Fairview Church of the Brethren. Burial at Fairview Cemetery will be private.

Edwin C. Aumiller II
Edwin Cloyd "Eddie" Aumiller II, 34, of 167 Massanutten Drive, Edinburg, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2002. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 4, at 2 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. The Rev. Ron Graham will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.
Mr. Aumiller was born Feb. 23, 1968, in Lewistown, Pa. He was a self-employed roofing contractor.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Nancy Aumiller Whetzel and Wayne Whetzel of Edinburg; father and stepmother, Edwin and Ruth Aumiller of Edinburg; brother, Timmy Aumiller of Woodstock; three sons, EC Aumiller, Gerry Aumiller and Chad Scott, all of Woodstock; and grandmother, Audrey Breon of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerry Aumiller.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7-8 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock.

Eddie loved the outdoors, especially spending time camping and fishing with his sons. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Melvin N. Green
Melvin N. "Mel" Green, 98, of Coeur d Alene, Idaho, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002.
Mr. Green was born Aug. 6, 1903, in New Market, and was a son of the late Abner Norman Green and Mary Ellen Williams Green.
He grew up in Mount Jackson and helped his family manage an apple orchard. He graduated from business college in Washington, D.C. He operated numerous businesses in Coeur d Alene before beginning a career in real estate in the late 1950s, which he pursued until retiring in 1977. Before retiring, he was one of the developers of the KOA Campground at the eastern end of Lake Coeur d Alene.
Mr. Green was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the Elks, the Eagles, the Elks Choir, and served one year as president of the Coeur d Alene Board of Realtors.
In 1934, he married Irene Garron, who survives. He is also survived by two sons Melvin F. Green and Bill Green, both of Coeur d Alene; a brother, Ralph Green; four sisters, Gladys Litten, Ruby Green, Nina Will and Patsy Weaver, all of Virginia; and a grandson.
A vigil prayer service will be held Wednesday, June 5, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Pius Church in Coeur d Alene. The funeral liturgy will be Thursday at 11 a.m. followed by a graveside service at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d Alene.

Marvin J. Lehman
Marvin Joseph Lehman, 82, of Harrisonburg, died May 30, 2002, at Avante Nursing Home, where he had been a resident since January 2000.
Mr. Lehman was born on May 27, 1920, in Dalton, Ohio, and was the son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Horst Lahman. He spent the majority of his life in the Dayton community. He was a gifted painter and a blacksmith. He was a member of the Rawley Springs Mennonite Church.
On June 26, 1941, he married the former Mary Vada Wenger, who preceded him in death on May 28, 1976. On Oct. 2, 1977, he married the former Martha Witmer, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Rachel Lahman Robinson, Harrisonburg; two sisters, Lena Rhodes, Harrisonburg, and Elizabeth Martin, Dayton; four grandchildren and 12 stepgrandchildren.
Mr. Lehman was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Lahman Weaver Cummings and two sisters, Emma Horst, Dayton, and Della Showalter, Mount Crawford.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Oak Grove Old Order Mennonite Church with Ministers Eli Slabaugh, Paul Reed, James Rhodes, and David Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
The body has been taken to the home of his daughter, Rachel Robinson, 2626 West Mosby Road, Harrisonburg, where friends may call at any time.

Robert F. May
Robert Franklin May, 62, of Mathias, W.Va., died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at his home.
Mr. May was born Sept. 23, 1940, in Mathias and was a son of Gladys Fink May of Timberville and the late Ervin May.
He was a truck driver for Foltz Litter in Mathias for 37 years and was a veteran of the U.S Army. He was a member of the Mathias Church of the Brethren and the N.R.A.
On Feb. 2, 1968, he married the former Minnie Shook, who survives.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by two sons, Dennis L. and Randy D. Jenkins, both of Mathias; a daughter, Melissa Garber of New Market; a brother, Ralph May of Timberville; a sister, Lena Whetzel of Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Greg Quintrell will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Friday at the Mathias Church of the Brethren. Burial will be at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mathias.

Benjamin Roberts, 48, of Harrisonburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Gene A. Harris
Gene Arnold Harris, 65, of 707 Fifth Street, Grottoes, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Richmond Veterans Medical Center.
He was born June 20, 1937, in Harrisonburg, a son of the late Fred Arnold Harris and Pauline Roach Harris Wilberger.
Mr. Harris served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961. He began serving on the Grottoes Town Council in May 1992. Mr. Harris was in his third term in office and was chairperson of the Water and Sewer Committee. He was active in the Grottoes Ruritan Club, was an honorary member of the Grottoes Fire Department, and was a member of Grottoes Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta A. Harris; a stepfather, Frank Wilberger of Grottoes; two sisters and their husbands, Donna and Tom Dobbs of Weyers Cave, and Robin and Calvin Floyd of Grottoes; three aunts, Betty Mae and Hilda Harris of McGaheysville, and Violet Hawk of York; niece and nephews, Amber Floyd and Matthew and Bryan Dobbs; one great niece, Kristen Jean Howel; and a number of cousins.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at Port Republic Cemetery by the Revs. Bill Thomas and Diana Horton. Military rites will be performed by the Rion-Bowman VFW Post No. 632. A memorial service will then be held at 7 p.m. at the Grottoes Town Hall.
The family will receive friends anytime at the Harris home in Grottoes.

Terry A. Lam
Terry Ann Lam, 43, of Elkton, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Lam was born Aug. 19, 1959, in Harrisonburg, and was a daughter of the late Edgar Edwin and Inza Anita Knight Williams.
She was a lifelong resident of Rockingham County and was an active member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Elkton. She had been employed at the Wrangler Company in Shenandoah.
On March 28, 1977, she married Neal Lee Lam, who survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Cody Edger O Neal Lam of Elkton; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Hensley of Elkton; a stepson, Shayne Lee Lam of Wilson, N.C.; a sister, Linda Good of Stanley; and two grandchildren.
The Revs. Mike Plasters and James Kite will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton.

Geneva F. Buchanan
Geneva Florence Whetzel Buchanan, formerly of Mount Jackson, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Oak Hill Nursing Home in Staunton. A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Mount Jackson Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Briel will officiate.
Mrs. Buchanan was born April 11, 1911, in Shenandoah County, daughter of the late Halley B. and Sarah Annie Clinedinst Whetzel. She was a 1928 graduate of Triplett High School and retired from Edinburg Aileen in 1976. She formerly worked at Blue Bell, Timberville Drug Store and Mount Jackson Pharmacy. She was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Mount Jackson and a former member of Mount Jackson Fire Department Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her son, Donald L. Buchanan; daughter, Vivian Marie Crist; two sisters, Helen Minnick and Catherine Whetzel and brother, Charles Whetzel.
Geneva is survived by her sister, Jeanette Jones of Mount Jackson; daughter-in-law, Reva C. Buchanan of Fort Valley; son-in-law, Billy L. Crist of Timberville; three grandchildren, Michael L. Crist and Darrick W. Crist, both of Timberville, and Richard Buchanan of Fort Valley; four great-grandchildren, Amy Funk of Broadway, Brian Crist and Katilyn Crist, both of Timberville, and Janna Buchanan of Woodstock, and one great-great-grandson, Austin Funk of Broadway.

Guy H. Balsley
Guy Hunter Balsley, 69, of Glen Allen, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002.
Mr. Balsley was a son of the late Delbert and Lydia Balsley.
He was a retired senior auditor with USF&G Insurance Company with 20 years of service. He was a past president of the Auditor s Association and past president of the Bethlehem Little League and served on various other boards.
His wife, Carolyn Miller Balsley, preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Broadway of Mocksville, N.C., and Diane Blankenship of Richmond; a son, Jeff Balsley of Mocksville, N.C.; a brother, Billy Balsley of Hadensville; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The funeral will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road in Richmond, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Greenmount Cemetery in Harrisonburg.

Mervin A. Stump
Mervin Alston Stump, 81, of Dorcas, W.Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Grant Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Stump was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Landes, W.Va., and was the son of the late Vinceon A. Stump and Phoebe Jane Kile Stump.
He was a farmer and was employed at Potomac Edison and Halterman s Hardware. He was a mechanic for the Atlantic Oil Company and worked for Golden Lanes in Petersburg for several years.
Mr. Stump was a member of Gordon Chapel United Methodist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 78 for over 50 years and attended the Brake Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are his wife of almost 54 years, Georgia Mae Thorne Stump. They were married Dec. 24, 1948.
He is also survived by four daughters, Phyllis Alt of Dorcas, W.Va., Janie Corley of Elkins, W.Va., Denise Ours of Charlottesville, and Nancy Rotruck of Petersburg, W.Va.; three sisters, Marie Kimble of Franklin, W.Va., and Neva Kesner and Dallie Stump, both of Petersburg, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The Revs. Craig Howard and Gary Phillips will conduct the funeral 11 am. Saturday at Brake Church of the Brethren. Burial will be at Brake Cemetery in Dorcas, W.Va., with military rites by the combined veterans organizations of Grant County and the JROTC.

Odessa I. Harlow
Mrs. Odessa Irene Kyger Harlow, 80, a resident of 616 Collicello Street in Harrisonburg, went to be with her Lord Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 17, 2002, at her home.
A daughter of the late Lula Florence Shifflett, she was born on Nov. 16, 1922, in Rockingham County. She lived her entire life in the Rockingham County-Harrisonburg area and attended McGaheysville High School. Mrs. Harlow had formerly worked for Duplan Corp., Blatts Cleaners and Smith-Hayden Cleaners, and had worked at Walker Manufacturing for 21 years prior to her retirement in July 1989. She was a member of the McGaheysville United Methodist Church and attended the Park View Baptist Church for over 30 years.
Along with her grandchildren, she enjoyed gardening, yard work, cooking, sewing and reading.
She is survived by two daughters, Frances Kiser and husband, Kim, of Mount Crawford, Darlene Shifflett and husband, Welty, of Harrisonburg; six grandchildren, Jonathan David Shifflett and wife, Daisy, Shannon Layne Kiser and wife, Christina, Jennifer Nicklow and husband, Thomas, Kelly Star Shifflett, Linden Lee Kiser and Benjamin Schuyler Shifflett; three great-grandchildren, Lantz Shifflett; Jarrod Nicklow and Zelda Shifflett. She also leaves one brother, Christopher Kyger of Harrisonburg; four sisters, Ruth Alice Shifflett and husband, Delmas, of Elkton, Hilda Mae Lam and husband, Clifton, of Harrisonburg, Edna Lee Mowbray of Harrisonburg, and Lethia Frances Kyger, with whom she made her home in Harrisonburg.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis Wilford Kyger, Oliver Kyger and Arnold Freemont Kyger; a sister, Lula Evelyn Kyger; a sister-in-law, Shirley Burkett Kyger, and a brother-in-law, Herbert Lee Mowbray.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Park View Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Sprinkle officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Friday evening at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.

Harold L. Roll
Harold Lloyd Roll, 69, of 1029 E. Main St., Stanley, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at the Newton D. Baker V.A. Center in Martinsbug, W.Va.
Mr. Roll was born Dec. 26, 1932, in Brinsmade, N.D., and was a son of the late Norman Ihlen and Edith Norris Ihlen.
He was a supervisor at the Genie Company and served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1953.
On Dec. 26, 1988, he married the former Lois Ann Cubbage, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth Roll of Newton, N.C., Randall Roll of Conover, N.C. and Brandon Roll of Statesville, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Renee Holland and Jennifer Jean Holland, both of Stanley; four brothers, Curtis Ihlen, Gary Ihlen Larry Ihlen and Ricky Ihlen, all of Washington; a sister, Evelyn Zablotney of North Dakota; and three grandchildren.
Pastor Frank Painter will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Independent Bible Church.
His body will be taken to the church Friday morning, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Friends may also call at the home of his stepdaughter, Jennifer Holland, 1111 E. Main St., Stanley, at any time.
