Ralph David Burdick, 55, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at Hospice of Northern Virginia, Arlington. He was born on Feb. 15, 1946, in Summit, Wis. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, model trains and exotic birds. He is survived by his parents, Raymond Dean and Anna Ruth (Johnson) Burdick of Oconomowoc, Wis.; his wife, Elaine Burdick of Chantilly; three sons, Ron Burdick of New London, Conn., Dean Burdick of Oconomowoc, Wis. and James Burdick of Chantilly; three sisters, Sally Kronsage of Muskego, Wis., Sandy Schroder of Oconomowoc and Sue Connors of Wales, Wis.; and five grandchildren, Danielle, Ryan and Myraha Burdick of New London and Matthew and Andrew Burdick of Oconomowoc. A memorial service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Blasius-Baker Funeral Home, 9320 West St., Manassas. George William DeBord, 66, of Woodbridge, formerly of Manassas, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at Birmingham Green Nursing Home, Manassas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret DeBord. He is survived by one son, Ricky DeBord of Manassas; five daughters, Cindy DeBord and Lisa Jackson, both of Woodbridge, Alice Mahoney of Manassas, Cheryl Waddle of Nokesville and Lilian McGuire of Augusta, W.Va.; one sister, Billie Crews of Haymarket; and 11 grandchildren. Roedolphus Jenkins
Roedolphus Jenkins, 86, of Manassas, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at Annaburg Manor, Manassas. He was born Feb. 9, 1915, in Cosby, Tenn., the son of the late Noah and Lugenie Brown Jenkins. He moved to Manassas in 1952. He was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Nancy Katherine Green Jenkins, who died in 1965; one son, Robert Jenkins; and one daughter, Dorothy Jenkins. Survivors include five children, Evelyn Botkin, Maudella Hamilton and Nola Ankers, all of Manassas, Alice Snyder of Nokesville and Bill Jenkins of Madison; one sister, Laura Dillinger of Tennessee; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Mark A. Cunningham Sr.
Mark Alan Cunningham Sr., 46, of Manassas, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Prince William Hospital, Manassas. He attended Faith Christian Fellowship Church in Catlett for the past nine years and was the owner of Cunningham Custom Masonry for more than 20 years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edson Harold Cunningham III. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Jean M. Cunningham; one daughter, Elizabeth Caroline Cunningham; three sons, Mark Alan Cunningham Jr., Matthew Ray Cunningham and Michael Paul Cunningham, all of the home; his parents, Edson Harold Cunningham Jr., and Mildred Cunningham of Myrtle Beach S.C.; and two sisters, Karen Charay of Mt. Fred Lee Orren, 79, of Richmond, formerly of Johnson City, Tenn., died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Alice S. Orren; four daughters, Joyce Ann Todd of Dumfries, Patricia Carol Nash of Reva, Peggy Sue Hawkins of Marshall and Sandra Kay Funk of Warrenton; five sons, Roy Lee Orren, Jimmy Orren and Frank Orren, all of Manassas, Albert Orren of Woodbridge and Charles Orren of Mobile, Ala.; two stepdaughters, Fran Cornwell of Catlett and Nancy Crowell of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one stepson, Frank Holyfield of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Helen McNabb; one brother, Doug Orren; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Coleman H. Reynolds
Coleman Hale Reynolds, 49, of Manassas, died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. The son of Edna Brock Reynolds and the late Roy Reynolds, he was born Nov. 15, 1951, in Takoma Park, Md., where he lived until moving to Manassas in 1981. He was educated with the U.S. Merchant Marines in Kingspoint, N.Y. He was an engineer with the Department of the Navy from 1980 until his death. He was a member of the U.S. Kingspoint Club and the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Deborah S. Reese Reynolds; three daughters, Brooke Amanda Reynolds, Melissa Esther Reynolds and Ashleigh Abigail Reynolds, all of the home; and three brothers, Roy Brock Reynolds of Maryland, Gary Douglas Reynolds of New Market and Randy Craig Reynolds of Silver Spring, Md. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Manassas Seventh-day Adventist Church. Evelyn W. Ryman
Evelyn Willie Ryman, 90, of Mount Jackson, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas. She was employed by Casey Jones in Mount Jackson and worked at Triplett High School's cafeteria in Mount Jackson. She was a member of the Mount Jackson United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Clem and Elizabeth Pence Clem Campbell; her husband, John Melvin Ryman; a sister, Lucy Douglass; and a brother, William Clem. She is survived by two daughters, Sue Hensley and her husband, Leon, of Penn Laird and Fay Bowers and her husband, William, of Manassas; two half-sisters, Mary Belle Miller of Richmond and Dorothy Green of Mount Jackson; three grandchildren, Wayne Ryman, Gale Goodwin and Rhonda Bowers; two great-grandsons, Grant and Chad Goodwin; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Steven Hall, Wayne Lee Hall and Gillian Goodwin; and one great-great-grandson, Braeden Goodwin. The family received friends Monday from 2 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 pm. at the funeral home. Mary F. Zahorchak, 78, of Winchester, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Winchester Medical Center. She was retired from Woolworth's Department Store in Rockville, Md., and was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony Varlien and Thressa Cetina Varlien; her husband, Michael J. Zahorchak Jr.; and one son, David Zahorchak. Survivors include one daughter, Carol Michael of Winchester; one son, Dennis Zahorchak of Manassas; one sister, Wilma Swetz of Windber, Pa.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Michael Allen Isner, 44, of Stafford, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas. He was a television producer for the FBI Training Network, a member and deacon of Mount Ararat Baptist Church; and a member of Rock Hill Ruritan Club. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia "Cindy" Isner of Stafford; his parents, Homer and Belva Shaffer Isner of Canton, Ohio; two daughters, Kelly M. Isner and Elizabeth N. Isner, both of Stafford; one son, Brandon S. Isner of Stafford; two sisters, D. Lucille Groves and Sandra F. Herbert, both of Canton; and one brother, James "Jim" D. Isner of Cleveland. Harold W. Brookshire
Harold Wesley Brookshire, 68, of Fairfax, died Friday Nov. 9, 2001, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester. He was a member of St. Matthew's Methodist Church, Annandale. He had been a building contractor in Northern Virginia since 1976. He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Brookshire, in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Jane Brookshire of Fairfax; two children, Dale Brookshire of Centreville and David Brookshire of Sumerduck; three brothers, James Wendell Brookshire of Annandale, Hoyt Brookshire of Manassas and Dennis Brookshire of Gore; three sisters, Virginia Smith and Barbara Kelley, both of Atlanta, and Iva Lee Underhill of Six Mile, S.C.; and four grandchildren. Christopher G. Marshall
Christopher Gerald Marshall, 19, of Manassas, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001. Born Oct. 7, 1982, on the Feast of the Holy Rosary, he died on the Feast of St. Leo, defender of the Catholic faith. He attended Holy Family Academy and Seton High School, where he played varsity basketball. He was a part-time student at Northern Virginia Community College, Manassas campus. He is survived by his parents, Bob and Cathy Marshall; four siblings, Teresa, Mary, Joey and Tommy Marshall; and his grandparents, Betty Marshall of Venice, Fla., and Edward and Eleanor Fonesca of White Plains, N.Y. A wake will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lee Funeral Home, 8521 Sudley Road, Manassas. A Mass of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas. Burial will be at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas. Robert J. McLearen Sr.
Robert James McLearen Sr., 80, of Nokesville, formerly of Alexandria, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at his home. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church in Alexandria and attended Greenwich Presbyterian Church in Nokesville. He was a member of the Northern Virginia Builders Association. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Doris H. McLearen; one son, Robert James McLearen Jr. of Nokesville; one daughter, Diane Honeycutt of Woodbridge; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Catherine Florene Priddy, 70, of Manassas, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Prince William Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Priddy Sr.; her parents, Clifton and Emma Jester; and one sister, Margaret DeMarco. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Ladies Auxillary of the York-shire Volunteer Fire Company and St. Mark's United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She is survived by five children, Peggy McCann of Bloxon; William E. Priddy Jr. of Austin, Texas, Thomas A. Priddy of Jupiter, Fla., and Brian D. Priddy and Scott A. Priddy, both of Manassas; one brother, Warner R. Jester of Delaware; two sisters, Hallie Watson of Chincoteague and Judy Wright of New Church; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Lelia J. Blackwell
Lelia Janice Blackwell, 61, of Dale City, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at her son':s home in Fredericksburg after a lengthy battle with cancer. She worked for Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority and loved gardening and animals. She is survived by one daughter, Lelia E. Blackwell of Dale City; one son, Scott Blackwell of Fredericksburg; one sister, Donna Fawcett of Fredericksburg; and four grandchildren. James M. Kerr
James "Jim" M. Kerr, 42, of Plano, Texas, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, as a result of an accident while road bicycling. He was a member of the Plano Cycle Club and rode thousands of miles each year in his home area and at cycling events around the nation. He was a graduate of Woodbridge High School, where he was a member of the Viking marching band. He also attended Virginia Tech, where he received a master':s degree in electrical engineering. He was employed as an engineering manager at Hewlett Packard in Richardson, Texas. He was also an amateur chef and food connoisseur. He had an extensive collection of cookbooks and cooking equipment. He attended a chef':s seminar at The Greenbrier in White Sulfur Springs, W.Va. He is survived by his parents, Jane and John Kerr of Woodbridge; a brother, John Kerr Jr. of Falls Church; a sister, Janice Ryan of Chantilly; and one niece. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Road, Woodbridge, where a Christian Wake will be said at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, 13752 Mary':s Way, Woodbridge. Bruce E. Scruggs
Bruce Edward Scruggs, 43, of Manassas, formerly of Amissville, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at his home. Prior to moving to Amissville, he was a longtime resident of Washington, D.C., where he became very involved in hospice care. He was an employee of Safeway Foods, prior to which he was employed with the National Coalition of Citizens for Disabilities. He graduated in 1977 from Stonewall Jackson High School. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cora Ethel Scruggs, and his brother, John L. Scruggs. Survivors include his father, Basil D. Scruggs of Manassas; his sisters, Wanda Carolyn Marchand of Fremont, N.H., and Pamela Poundstone of Gainesville; seven nieces and nephews; and four great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Price Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas, the Rev. Chris Rackley officiating. LaValle F. Van Etten
LaValle Frazier Van Etten, 52, of Stafford, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. He was born Aug. 20, 1949, in Margaretville, N.Y., the son of the late LeRoy and Henrietta Frazier Van Etten. He was a U.S. Capitol police officer and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He is survived by one daughter, Jenny Van Etten; two sons, Timothy Van Etten of Burlington, N.C., and Trevor Van Etten of Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Blanche Ury of Big Indian, N.Y.; three brothers, Dale Van Etten of Waterbury, Conn., Clark Van Etten of Big Indian and Claude Van Etten of Endicott, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Brenda Tate
Brenda C. Tate of Prince William County died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Born in Princess Ann County to Anthony and Dorothy Cooper, she was a graduate of Kellam High School and Norfolk State University. She was employed at Virginia Beach General Hospital as a licensed practical nurse for 13 years. After relocating to Slidell, La., and Prince William County, she continued to work as a private duty nurse, nursing instructor, assistant store manager and craft specialty shop owner. Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Hansford Emanuel Tate; daughter, Christina Tate; six sisters, Deborah Crique, Gloria Coston, Betty Harris, Shirley Siplin, Wanda Cooper and Angela Ingram; three brothers, Michael Cooper, Anthony (Woody) Cooper and Virgil Sean Cooper. A memorial service will be held today from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Siloam Baptist Church, 1614 Zacata Road, Montross.
