Catherine Staub 'Cass' Tillman, 82, formerly of Kay Road, Portsmouth, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, in Courtland.
A native of Baltimore, Md., she was the widow of Carl Hugo Tillmann.
She was retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard Co-op as an accounting clerk after 25 years of employment.
She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church.
Survivors include one son, Carl 'Wayne' Tillmann, and his wife, Jenny, of Windsor; one sister, Virginia Loovis of Baltimore, Md.; one sister-in-law, Charlotte M. Staub of Baltimore; four grandchildren, Pam Powell, and her husband, Juan, of Hampton, Cindy Roth, and her husband, Mark, of Suffolk, Ferne Jones, and her husband, Daniel, of Chesapeake, and Carl Wayne Tillman Jr. of Windsor; one great-grandchild, Meredith Powell.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard, by the Rev. Robert Cummins.
Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Mausoleum.

Minnie V. Warren, formerly of Suffolk, died in the early hours of Sunday morning, Dec. 9, 2001 in Mary Immaculate Hospital, Newport news.

Rose M. Alexander
Rose M. Alexander, 55, of the 100 block of Tyler Avenue, Newport News, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, in Riverside Hospital.
Mrs. Alexander was a native of Yonkers, N.Y. She was a daughter of the late Edward and Irene Motley. She was predeceased by her husband, Billie Alexander.
Survivors include three daughters, Billie Alexander of Newport News, Denise Evans of Chesapeake, and Valerie Alexander of Sharon Hills, Pa.; four sons, Edward Alexander, Billy Alexander and Victor Smith, all of Yonkers, and Henry Artis of Suffolk; many sisters and brothers; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at noon Saturday in Nicholson and Cummings Funeral Chapel, Hampton, with the Rev. Thomas Harding Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
Viewing will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday in Nicholson and Cummings Funeral Home, 4304 Victoria Blvd., Hampton.
The body will be taken by 10:30 a.m. Saturday to the chapel. Family and friends will assemble at 11 a.m. Saturday at the residence for the procession.

Catherine Walker
Mrs. Catherine Walker, 86, of 6064 Churchland Blvd., Portsmouth, died Monday, June 24, 2002 in Maryview Hospital.
A native of Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late Moses and Cora Jones White, and the widow of William Walker.
She had retired from Emerson Radio and Television, and was a member of Grove Baptist Church, Portsmouth.
She is survived by three sons, Leon White of Florida, William Walker of Queens, N.Y., and Lossie Walker of Manhattan, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held at noon Friday in Grove Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by Dr. Melvin O. Marriner.
Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk.

James E. Luter
James "Jimmy" Everett Luter, 62, of Suffolk, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Obici Hospital.
Born on May 12, 1940 in Suffolk, he was a son of the late Andrew Jackson and Lilla Mae Green Luter.
Mr. Luter was retired from VDOT, and had served in the National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Felton Luter; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Luter and Leslie Allen Stickels, Angela Dale and John Patrick Clement, all of Suffolk; brothers, Michael Andrew Luter, John Wayne Luter, his wife, Peggy, all of Suffolk; grandchildren, Brittany, Kortini and Brandi Stickels, Christopher and Leigh Dale.

Guy N. Haslett
Guy Norfleet Haslett, 81, of Suffolk, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at his home.
Born on April 23, 1921 in Suffolk, he was a son of the late Martha Julia Morgan and Joseph Jethro Haslett. He was predeceased by five dear brothers, Joe, Lou, Julian, Tony, and Carlton Haslett, and foster brother, Fred Morgan.
Mr. Haslett was co-owner and operator of Southern Dry Cleaners for many years.
He was a member of Suffolk Christian Church and the Franklin Hunt Club.
He had served in the Merchant Marines during WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Vann Walters Haslett; daughter, Nancy H. Pichel, her husband, M.R. Pichel, of Virginia Beach; son, Hunter Walters Haslett of Isle of Wight County; grandchildren, Tracy P. Shield and Frank H. Pichel; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. Michael D. Halley, with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery.

Georgie L. Calloway
Georgie L. Calloway, 71, of 124-1/2 Morgan St., Suffolk, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003.
A native of New Bern, N.C., she was the widow of Eugene Calloway, and a daughter of the late George Allen and Olice Jones Eubanks, She was also predeceased by a son, John Henry Parker.
She was a member of the Salvation Army.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Thomas Stutz of Suffolk; two grandsons, Paul Parker and Derek Stutz; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Baker and Sherry Rice, both of Alliance, N.C.; one brother, Joseph "Buck" Eubanks of New Bern; one aunt, Anna Bell Joyner of New Bern; and two daughters-in-law, Debbie Lee and Juanita Parker.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Chapel with Capt. David May and the Rev. Mike Derflinger officiating. Place of entombment will be at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Lawrence E. Blanchard
Lawrence E. Blanchard Jr., prominent business and community leader, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at age 82 after a long fight with prostate cancer.
He was a retired vice chairman of the board of Ethyl Corporation.
Mr. Blanchard was born in Lumberton, N.C. and grew up in Raleigh, N.C., where he attended public schools. After high school he attended Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg for one year and then attended Duke University, from which he was graduated in 1942. At Duke, he was president of the student body, class, and fraternity. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa and received varsity letters in lacrosse.
Immediately after graduation, Mr. Blanchard entered the U.S. Navy and was commissioned an ensign, serving until early 1946. He was discharged with the rank of full lieutenant, having served on a ship in the Pacific during the war and in Japan after the war. He immediately entered Columbia University law School in New York City in 1946 and graduated in 1948 and came to Richmond the same year as an associate with the law firm that is now Hunton & Williams. He was made a partner in the firm in 1953.
In 1967, Mr. Blanchard left the practice of law to join Ethyl Corporation as executive vice president, chief financial officer and a member of the board of directors and the executive committee. He retired from Ethyl in 1985 as vice chairman but continued on the board until 1994. He remained a consultant to the company until his death.
After retirement in 1985, he acquired a home near Irvington and became an active power boater. He was a member of the Virginia Yacht Club. Mr. Blanchard was well known in the area as a member of the board of directors of numerous public companies, including Overnite Transportation Company, Breno, Inc., Crestar Financial Corporation, Universal Corporation, and American Filtrona Corporation. He was involved in the formation of First Colony Life Insurance Company of Lynchburg in 1955,and served as its secretary and a member of its board of directors until 1970. He later returned to that board after First Colony was acquired by Ethyl in 1982.
In 1975 to 1976, Mr. Blanchard was chairman of the Metropolitan Richmond Chamber of Commerce. He served on the boards of numerous civic organizations, including the United Giver's Fund, Junior Achievement, Robert E. Lee Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Richmond Symphony. Mr. Blanchard was an active supporter of education. He served on the board of Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, the Colgate Darden School of Business, and for 10 years was a trustee of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland. He also served as a member of the investment committee of Union Theological Seminary and was a director of the Virginia Commonwealth University Foundation.
In 1984, Mr. Blanchard received the Thomas Jefferson Award for public Service form the Public Relations Society of America. In 1989, he received the Brotherhood Citation from the National Conference of Christians and Jews. In 1992, he received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Boy Scouts of America. In 1992, he received an honorary doctor of laws degree from Randolph-Macon College. Mr. Blanchard was a former board member of the Downtown Club, the Commonwealth Club, and the Country Club of Virginia. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was a former chairman of the board of deacons and was several term Elder.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Hallum Blanchard, two sons, Dr. Lawrence E. Blanchard III and his wife, Vickie Wimberley Blanchard, and Charles A. "Buck" Blanchard and is wife, Louise Browner Blanchard, all of Richmond; two daughters, Neal Blanchard Johnson and her husband, Steven M. Johnson, of Seattle, Wash., and Sally Blanchard Rawls and her husband, Frank M. Rawls of Suffolk; 12 grandchildren, David Lawrence Blanchard, Berkeley Frances Blanchard, Austen Harriet Johnson, Abigail Jolley Johnson, Anne Marshall Johnson, Mathew Christopher Rawls, John Stephen Rawls, Michael Andrew Rawls, Charles Fuller Blanchard, John Mahaffey "Mac" Blanchard, Ann Pearman Blanchard and Frances Hallum Blanchard; and by a brother, Charles F. Blanchard and his wife, Bernard Berkeley Blanchard of Raleigh, N.C.; and three nieces.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the Bliley Funeral Homes, Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond. Burial services will be private with a memorial service to be held at First Presbyterian Church, Richmond, at 2 p.m.. Thursday, April 17.

James Ludie "Punk" Evans, 78, of 7629 South Quay Road, the loving husband of Beatrice Barrett Evans, and son of the late James and Annie Stokes Evans, passed away on Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at home with family after a long courageous battle with a terminal illness. His son, Norris P. Evans, and a grandson, Stefan T. Lawrence, preceded him in death.
Besides his loving wife of 54 years, survivors include two sons, Morris E. Evans (Veronica) and Thomas B. Evans, both of Suffolk; a daughter, Evelyn L. Walker (Emanuel) of Accokeek, Md.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annie B. She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Nadirah "Gwen" Rawls-Sharif of Carrsville and Sandra Mayfield, and her husband, the Rev. Keith Mayfield, of Suffolk; four sons, Herbert N.
