Mrs. Bessie (Lessie) L. Cornett Yarber, of 31402 Old Stage Road went to be with the Lord, Saturday, May 01, 2004. She was born December 15, 1913 to the late Roby and Lillie Whitaker Cornett. She was a homemaker, a member of the Bethel Baptist Church inVilas, North Carolina and her life was a testimony for her family and friends. Our mother enjoyed the simple things and loved life itself. She was preceded in death by her husband, James I. Yarber, founder of Yarber Chair Company; two sons, James Yarber, Jr. and Edward Yarber and one grandson, Billy Gene Litton. She is survived by:

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 2:00 PM in the Landmark Baptist Church with Rev. Dean King and Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 \endash 9 PM Monday at the Landmark Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Ruth D. Creger
Mrs. Ruth Davenport Creger, age 80, died Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March 16, 1924 in Russell County, VA and was a daughter of the late Edward M. Davenport and Martha Puckett Davenport. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Morgan Creger; a brother, Ford Davenport and two sisters, Hazel Pruitt and Mary Lee Easterly
Mrs. Creger was a 1949 graduate of Greendale High School where she was the class Valedictorian; a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the James H. Peters Post of the Disabled American Veterans. She had retired from the Washington County Library after 20 years of service and was a longtime member of the Temple Baptist Church.
She is survived by her niece, Jeannine Widener and husband Gene of Abingdon; other nieces and nephew, Joan, Sue, Judy and Don Easterly; her step-children, Elizabeth Ritoli and husband Michael of Fredericksburg, VA; John Charles Creger and wife Jeanette of Beaver Dam, VA and four step grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. John Wesley Price officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens Casket bearers will be selected from her friends at Temple Baptist Church. Honorary casket bearers will be her many friends at the Washington County Library and Temple Baptist Church. Edward Woodard
Mr. Edward Woodard, age 77 of Bristol, Virginia passed away Tuesday May 4, 2004 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia.
Born March 1, 1927 in Topaco, NC, He was the son of the late Andrew J. and Mary J. Woodard and was preceded in death by his brother Donald Woodard.
A 1946 graduate of Grundy High School, he attended Emory and Henry College and was a retired employee of Koch Industries. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church in Bristol; an active member of the Bristol Senior Show Choir and a founding member of the Gospel Mission Quartet.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maxine Altizer Woodard; one daughter: Rita Viers of Piedmont, SC; two sons: Steve Woodard of Wilmington, NC and Terry Woodard of Charlottesville, VA; four grandchildren: Amy Sutherland, Andy Viers, Preslie Ryder and Scott Crowder; two great grandchildren; his son-in-law and dear friend Kelly D. Viers; Three sisters: Mabelle Calhoun, Nina Justice and Juanita Kiem.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P. M. Friday May 7, 2004 at Midway Baptist Church, 21318 Old Dominion Road in Bristol, VA. Reverend Dexter Terry and Reverend Luke Martin will officiate. Entombment will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill, Virginia.

Cora Mae Neal, 90, of Abingdon died Wednesday May 5, 2004 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Neal was a lifelong resident of Washington County. She was a member of Gospel Tabernacle and was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore William Neal.
Survivors include one son: Ervin William Neal of Wilton, CA; three daughters: Edna Wise of Bristol; Shirley Widener of Abingdon; Joyce Jackson of Abingdon; two brothers: Kerry Henley of Abingdon; Con Henley of Meadowview; one sister: Nannie Carr of Greenville, SC; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday May 7, 2004 at 3:00 P. M. at Farris Funeral Chapel. Reverend Rick Wyatt will officiate. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park.

Mrs. Dora Gladys Caudill Carbary, age 84, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, May 7, 2004 at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, R. T. Carbary. Her faith and trust was in Jesus Christ the Lord.

Zeke Jenkins
Mr. Zeke Jenkins, 96, of Meadowview died Saturday May 8, 2004 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Carter County, Virginia, Mr. Jenkins was the son of the late Robert and Edna Oliver Jenkins. He was a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife Emma Oliver Jenkins.
Survivors include three sons: Earl Jenkins of Cheyenne, WY; James Jenkins and wife Judy of Chilhowie; Chester Jenkins and wife Ann of Glade Spring; two daughters: Vivian Bryant of Chilhowie; Irene Prater and husband Larry of Meadowview; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday May 10, 2004 at 11 A.M. at the graveside from Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Reverend Warren Wilson will officiate.

Jack O. DeBord
Mr. Jack O. DeBord, 70, passed away, Sunday May 9, 2004 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Mr. DeBord was a native of Saltville and had lived most of his life in Washington County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Tom E. and Rosie Crutchfield DeBord. He was a graduate of Saltville High School and a United States Army veteran. He had worked for the Olin Chemical Corporation for 15 years and then worked at Westinghouse until his retirement. He was a former member of the Plasterco United Methodist Church where he was teacher and had held many offices for several years and was a member of the Rich Valley United Methodist Church. He was preceded by two sisters, Beulah DeBord, Hazel Surber; a brother, John DeBord and brother in law, Richard Nutter.
Survivors include his wife: Janet Nutter DeBord; one son: Dennis DeBord and wife, Glenda of Raleigh, NC; two brothers: Rev. James L. DeBord and wife, Sue of Glade Spring; Eugene DeBord and wife, Bertha of Saltville; three sisters: Lois Harris and husband, James of Gate City; Dorothy Harris and husband, Paul of Antioch, IL; Mildred Greer and husband, Dickie of Mendota, Va. Two brothers-in-law, Harold Nutter and wife, Mildred of Woodlawn, Va. and Malcolm Nutter and wife, Lois of Cleveland, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Zelda Nutter of Saltville and Mary N. Joseph N. Worley
Mr. Joseph N. Worley, age 90, of Bristol, VA went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2004 at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was a member of Maple Grove Presbyterian Church, a retiree of Burlington Mills ' Volunteer Textiles' of Bristol, TN and also a part-time farmer. He was the son of the late George Worley and Laura Bowman Worley.
He was preceded in death by one son: Wayne Vincent Worley; brothers: Rufice T. Worley, General W. Worley and Arnold ' Pete' Worley; one sister: Ada Worley.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Faye Harley Worley; son: Garry L. Worley and wife Sue of Bristol, VA; sister: Clara Jackson of Bristol, VA; brother: Robert ' Bob' Worley of Bristol, TN; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren.

MR. WILLIAM E. BLACKWELL, JR., age 66, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born and lived in Saltville, Virginia, moved to Cedar Bluff where he lived four years before moving to Abingdon in 1975. He was a graduate of Saltville High School and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute. William was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church and the Glenrochie Country Club where he enjoyed golfing. Mr. Dan Franklin Vannoy, age 77, of the Alvarado Community, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at his residence.
He was a native of Big Stick, W. VA and had been a resident of the Alvarado Community for many years. He had attended the Greenwood Baptist Church and was a carpenter and a farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Flossie Lelia Davis Vannoy and loving sisters, Hazel and Louise.

Mrs. Florida Goff Vaught, 82, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Hillview Health Center in Elizabethton, TN. She was born in Smyth County, Virginia and had lived most of her life in Clinchburg, VA. She was a member of Mahanaim United Methodist Church.

Mr. Junior Clarence Gobble, age 72, passed away Sunday May 16, 2004 at his home in the Brumley Gap Community.
Mr. Gobble was a native of Russell County and had been a resident of the Brumley Gap Community most of his life. He was a member of Fletcher' s Chapel and retired from Bristol Compressors with seventeen years of service.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joey Gobble.

She was born on March 9, 1924 in Saltville, VA and was a daughter of the late Roy Ballou and Madeline Broyles Ballou and was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wallace; an infant daughter, Diana Lynn Clark and two brothers, Allen Ballou and Gene Ballou. Mrs. Wallace was a member of the Byar' s Cobb United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Wallace and Ann Wallace of Emory, VA; Samuel Dixon Clark and Nancy Clark of Barboursville, VA; four grandchildren, Michael Paul Clark of Mansfield, TX; Andrew Dixon Clark of Charlottesville, VA; Erin Wallace and Robby Wallace both of Emory, VA and a great grandson, Michael Paul Clark, Jr.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Wednesday in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Beverly Robinette officiating. The interment and committal service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Baptist Cemetery in Glade Spring , VA.
Casket bearers will be the following nephews: Danny Broyles, Joe Taylor, Andy Wallace, Jeff Wallace, Herbie Wallace and Rick Cuddy.

Mrs. Clara Virginia Fritz, age 80, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at her residence. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Robert S. and Virgie M. Mary Ann Burke Widener, age 70, went to be with her Heavenly family, Thursday, May 20, 2004.
She made her home in Abingdon, Virginia and had lived in Roanoke, Virginia and Maryland.
She was a school teacher and a day care worker, she loved all children. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother to all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ida Kinsley Burke and Emmett Fuller Burke and a son, Mark Widener, sisters, Pauline Greer and Laura Trimyer and a brother, Charles Edward ' Bud' Burke.

Ivan Rodger Clark, Sr.
Mr. Ivan Rodger Clark, Sr. age 61, entered into eternal peace Saturday, May 22, 2004 in Johnston Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Before becoming disabled, Rodger was employed with Valleydale Packers and Bristol Metals, Bristol, TN.
He was a member of the Kingsway Baptist Church, Bristol, VA, attended Hamilton High School, Mendota, VA and was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Octavia Clark, brothers, Gordon, Fred and Henry Monroe. After becoming disabled, Rodger still loved to hunt and fish.

Virginia Kathryn Gray
Mrs. Virginia Kathryn Gray, a resident of the Bethel Community, died Friday, May 21, 2004 at her residence.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, VA and was a daughter of the late William Matthew McCall and Irene Watson McCall. She was a graduate of Bethel High School and the Mary Dalton Frye Secretarial School. Mrs. Gray was former employee of the Pet Milk Company, the Washington County Treasurer' s Office, Johnston Memorial Hospital and the Cumbo China Shop. Mrs. Gray was a longtime active member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis E.Gray; a daughter, Kitty Lynn Gray; three brothers, Bill McCall of Abingdon, Virginia; Earl Ray McCall of Dover Delaware and Jimmy McCall of Mobile, Alabama; five sisters, Mary Mitchell of Abingdon, Virginia, Ruth Tillison of Bristol, Tennessee, Edith Brown of Sun Lakes Arizona, Esther Rhodes of Brooksville, Florida and Ann Snapp of Blountville, Tennessee; twenty one nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Monday, May 24, 2004 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church with Rev. Cathy Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
