Mandy Frances Tignor
Mrs. Mandy Frances Tignor, age 94, of 9312 Sugar Cove Road in the Brumley Gap Community, died Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at her home. Born on February 27, 1910 in Washington County, she was a daughter of the late Ross Reynolds and Pansy Kestner Reynolds. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Fullen Wise and Ollie Burns Tignor and four children, Morgan Wise, Glenn Tignor, Cletus Arnold, and Roxie Tignor. Mrs. Tignor is survived by six sons, Bernard Tignor and wife Evelyn, Vince Tignor, and Dallas Wise and wife Lucille all of Abingdon; L. V. Tignor and wife Joy of Michigan, Daniel Wise and wife Nancy and Raymond Wise and wife Susie of all of Bristol, VA; seven daughters, Linda Arnold and husband Guy, Willie Mae Black and Mary Horner all of Bristol, VA; Betty Wise and husband Larry of Castlewood, VA, Nannie B. Wise and husband Virgil of Mendota, VA and Gladys Poulos of Bluff City, TN and Leo Tweed and husband James of Abingdon, VA. 44 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 12 great- great grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Friday, November 5, 2004 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Paul Price and Rev. Roger Hearl officiating. Interment will follow the service. The family will meet at the funeral home Friday and go in procession to the cemetery at 2:30 P.M. Casket bearers will be the following grandsons: Jimmy Bowman, Clyde Wise, Ricky Wise, Junior Tweed, Stuart Smith and Jamie Tignor. Honorary casket bearers will be J. D. Kestner and the following grandsons: Kimmy Bowman, Doug Horner, Bill Wise, Gene Wise, and Michael Wise. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M., Thursday at the funeral home.

Sara Keller Dutton
Sara Keller Dutton, age 95, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2004 in the Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie, VA. She was a native of Washington County, was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson College, was a faithful member of the Old Glade Presbyterian Church and the Women' s Circle #2. Mrs. Dutton was a member of the Washington County Retired Teachers and was a life member of the Virginia PTA. She taught school in Washington County for many years and was a member of the Meadowview Home Extension Club for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ernest Dutton and a daughter, Margaret Robinette. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving is her son, James E. Dutton and wife, Maggie, Roanoke, VA, her daughter, Rebecca D. Whitson and husband, Wayne, Virginia Beach, VA, her son-in-law, David P. Robinette, Meadowview, VA., her grandchildren, Michael J. Dutton and wife, Stephanie, Debra Sue Dutton, Amy Lee Whitson, Brian W. Whitson and wife, Monet and Mark D. Robinette, her great grandchildren, Jackie, Natalie and Maria Dutton, her step-great grandchildren, Morgan and Garrett Robinson, several nieces and a nephew. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday, November 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 427 East Main Street with Rev. Tim Bird officiating. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park. A special thanks and appreciation to her loving and faithful caregivers, Betty Davenport and Lakota Collins and to the Valley Health Care Center and her wonderful nurses and caring assistants. Maxie A. Stringer
Maxie A. Stringer, age 78, of Bristol, Va passed away Thursday, November 4, 2004. She was a longtime member of Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church. Mrs. Stringer was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold J. B. and Kernie Anderson. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Clyde A. Stringer; twin daughters, Peggy Heath and husband Kelly and Libby Hoskins and husband Claud all of Bristol; one son, Ed Stringer and wife Cindy of Marion, four grandchildren, Charles Stringer, Christie Grumbos, Angela Dannhardt and Seth Stringer; three great grandchildren; her best friend of 60 years, Bernice Crowe; brothers Denver Anderson and Lynn Anderson and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 Am Saturday in the Main street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. H. Malcolm Wansley officiating. Interment will follow in Knollkreg memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Don Necessary, John Thacker, Roby Billings, Eddie McGuire, John Birchhead, Hugh Stringer, Jim Stringer and john Stringer. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Loudy, George Helms, Jack Lester, Tim Alley, Harold Warren, Gary Anderson, Andrew Anderson and Randy Harper. Mabel Katherine Groseclose
Mrs. Mabel Katherine Keller Snodgrass Groseclose, age 93, died Monday, November 8, 2004 at her home. Born on September 11, 1911 in Washington County, she was a daughter of the late William james Keller and Ada Larmier Keller. Mabel was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Virginia Wohlford. She is survived by two daughters, Lois Mattison of Argentine, Michigan and Frances Craig and husband Phil of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; two sons, James F. Snodgrass and wife Ada of Arlington, TX and John Snodgrass and wife Dawn, who was her special caregiver, of Bluff City, TN; several nephews and nieces including special nieces, Lois Price, Reba Goodman and Judy Anderson; 15 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, November 11, 2004 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion. Casket bearers will be Alfred Glass, Eddie McConnell, Mike Anderson, Eugene Goodman, Brett Rasnake, Bradley Rasnake, Eric Woodford, Dustin Snodgrass and Jared May. Douglas L. Woodard
After 59 years of a wonderful life with family and friends, Douglas L. Woodard has gone to be with the Lord. Douglas was a Sergeant in the U. S. Marines having served in the Vietnam War. He was a Disabled American Veteran and was past post commander of the Abingdon D.A.V. He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Thelma Neal Woodard, a brother, John C. ' Buddy' Woodard and a brother-in-law, William Buckles. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Woodard, Saltville, VA, a daughter, Missy Woodard, Saltville, VA, a son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Melissa Woodard, Deltona, Florida, grandchildren, Holly and Emma Woodard, Deltona, Florida, a sister, Mary Ann (Billie) Guessetto, Titusville, Florida, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Betty Woodard Owens, Joe and Debbie Buckles, Peggy Buckles, Betty and Allen Minton, several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Eric Hinchey officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Christine Dunn Ogle
Christine Dunn Ogle, of Abingdon, passed away Tuesday, November 09, 2004, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Washington County, she was a founding member of Rich Valley United Methodist Church, and a member of the Eastern Star, where she had served as Worthy Matron. Mrs. Ogle was a retired teacher with Washington County Schools where she had taught for 30+ years. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, William M. (Dub)Ogle; one daughter, Delores Ritchie, and husband, Wayne; one son, Monte Ogle, and wife, Shirley; 3 grandsons, Steve Ogle, Brian Ogle, and Ben Ritchie; one sister, Jewel Davis; and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 12, 2004 at 3pm at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA with Rev. Larry Linkous officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 2pm until time of service. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Memories at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Andrea Christine Deel
Andrea Christine (Christy) Deel, 85 Pace Drive, Bristol, VA went home to her Lord Jesus on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004. She was born June 19,1966 to Willie Kermit and Betty J. Deel and lived the early years of her life in Buchanan County. She attended Palmer Institute and graduated from Abingdon High School and Virginia Highlands Community College with a degree in Secretarial Science. She also held a degree in Veterinary Assistant Technology. Christy was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church and had also been a member of Kingsway Baptist Church in Bristol. She was a devout Christian, pure of heart whose life was a testimony to her faith. She had helped to raise over 10 foster children. Christy was a member of the Appalachian Girl Scout Council where she served as a troop leader and as a unit leader at the Bristol, Virginia Day Camp. She worked with the March of Dimes and made blankets and collected baby items for the ' Angel Network.' She loved crafts and collected dolls and Beanie Babies. Born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bone disease) Christy' s life expectancy was only three years but she beat those odds every day making a life of service to others Her cheerfulness and determination were a blessing to family and friends alike. She helped to design handicapped accessibility plans for the Bristol Virginia School System and was the first student to benefit from those changes. She volunteered over 500 hours at Bristol Memorial Hospital in the public relations and billing departments. Other than her parents, she is survived by her sister Mitzi McClanahan, brother in law Alvery W. Tiller and their children Caroline Tabor and her husband James Keith and children Amanda, Alex, and Nicholas of Bristol, VA, Travis M. Tiller of Abingdon; her brother and sister in law, Bruce W. and Mary Ann Deel of Bristol, TN, and their children Lea Ann Wilson and husband Jonathon of Amarillo, Texas, and Tiffany Deel of Bristol, TN. She also leaves behind special friends Clarence White, Connie Macklem, and Linda Stewart as well as her beloved dog and constant companion Belle. She was preceded in death by infant brothers Brian Keith and Jimmy Ted as well as maternal grandparents James Ramey, and Grace Cron, paternal grandparents John W and Mary Deel. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, November 13, 2005, at noon in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 427 East Main Street with Elders Jackie Church, Annion Cole and Ely Smith. Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday starting at 6:00 PM at the funeral home where a song service will be held at 7:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Travis Tiller, Greg Macklem, Bobby Parks, James Tabor. Honorary pallbearers will be the church members of the Old Regular Baptist Church and the Kingsway Baptist Church.

Ruth Hall Hobson
Mrs. Ruth Hall Hobson, age 91, died Thursday, November 11, 2004 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Born on October 17, 1913 in Floyd County, Kentucky, Ruth was a daughter of the late John Hall and Armina Frasure Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kit Carson Hobson; her brothers, Parrott Hall and Tivis Hall and her sisters Mary Newman, Frances Williams and Betty Scoles Ruth was a retired school teacher, having taught many years in Buchanan County, Virginia and Kentucky school systems. She was the recipient of the Teacher Of The Year Award. Ruth was a member of the North Bristol Baptist Church and was a former member of the Vansant Baptist Church in Buchanan County. Ruth was a very active church member and showed her support for her church by teaching Sunday School for many years and volunteering with the Baptist Women' s Group. Survivors include a brother, Walker Hall of Spring Hill, Florida; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Sunday in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Jody Breeding officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens in Clay Pool Hill, VA. Casket bearers will be Curtis Ratliff, Frank Ratliff, Kenneth N. Lawson, Kermit Rowe, Charles Hall and Jessie Cline. Honorary casket bearers will be Clark Cox, Kenneth L. Lawson and Eddie Tiller. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations in Ruth' s honor be made to the Vansant Baptist Church, Vansant, Virginia 24656. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Nannie Bruce Colley
Nannie Bruce Colley, age 91, a former resident of Abingdon, passed away November 13, 2004 at Community Skilled Nursing Home in Warren, OH. Born February 16, 1913 in Washington County, VA, she was daughter of the late George W. Hill and Nora Martin Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John L. Colley; four sisters, including her twin sister Helen Helton, Grace Hodges, Audry Chisom and Trula Weatherly. Nannie was a member of Blackwell Chapel Union Church and was a member of the church choir. Nannie was a housewife and seamstress, enjoyed gardening and working on her farm, making apple butter, and had a great love for animals. Survivors include her two daughters, Janice Capp and husband, Joseph, of Newton Falls, Ohio, and Shirley Jenson, of Meadowview; one son, John Douglas Colley, of Granger Indiana; 10 grandchildren,; and 16 great grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 11AM at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Scott Spence officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Casketbearers will be Bobby Cuddy, Bill Farris, Ronnie Frazier, Allen McNew, Ricky McNew and Jackie McNew. Nina Flanary Singleton
Mrs. Nina Flanary Singleton, age 72, died Saturday, October 13, 2004 at her home. Born in Scott County, VA on September 18, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Rex Ward Flanary and Sally Fields Flanary. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Singleton; a daughter, Deborah Yarbrough and a brother, Dale Flanary. Mrs. Singleton had spent most of her life in Dickenson County and the Clintwood area where she was a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Clintwood Chapter. She was an avid bowler and was a member of the B.W. C. A and W. I. B. C. She was a member of the Walnut Grlove Presbyterian Church. Survivors include a son Larry R. Singleton of Abingdon; three dautghters, Lind G. Whitt of Roanoke; Sheila D. Mullins of Bristol, TN and Susan L. Henley of Abingdon; two brothers, Don W. Flanary of Churchill, TN and Jimmy L. Flanary of Gate City, VA; nine grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one step-great grandchild. The funeral service will be conducted at 11;00 A.M. Tuesday, November 16, 2004 in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, with Rev. John Markel officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Casket bearers will be John Henley, Steve Osborne, Joe Mullins, Matt Fouch, Stephen LaPoint and James Whitt. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Mrs. Juanita Childress Lothery, age 72, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2004 at her home in the Brumley Gap Community. Juanita was a native of Washington County and was preceded in death by her husbands, William Alfred Childress, Sr., and Russell Lothery. She is survived by five sons, John Childress and wife, Mary Sue, Bristol, TN, Bill Childress and wife, Debbie, Elizabethton, TN, Robert Childress and Eddie Childress both of Abingdon, VA, Jackie Childress and wife, Lorie Ann, Abingdon, VA, a granddaughter, Andrea Childress, Elizabethton, TN, two step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. in the Brumley Gap Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Counts Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Alexander, William Alexander, Brett White, Brian White, June Tignor, Mike Wise. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Isabel Jean Dorson
Mrs. Isabel Jean Dorson, age 81, died Monday, November 15, 2004 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Born on July 13, 1923 in Pennsylvania, Isabel was a daughter of the late Ed Windsor and Elsie Windsor Smith. She and her husband were former residents of Pennsylvania before moving to Abingdon. She was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Dorson; her special caregiver, Gladys Reynolds of Damascus and a cousin, Anna Belle Gohnnson of Rockford, Il. The funeral and committal service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor John E. Massey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Anyone wishing to sign the guest register may visit the funeral home at any time.

Marcella Tignor
MARCELLA TIGNOR, 50, of Bristol, VA passed away at her home Monday, November 15, 2004. She had lived in the Bristol area for the past 15 years, and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her father, Roscoe Gregory. Survivors include her husband, Leroy Tignor; her mother, Lottie Gregory, of Glade Spring; one brother, David Gregory, of Glade Spring; three sisters, Wanda Clark, of Saltville, Frances Doane, of Marion, and Karen Quesenberry, of Chilhowie; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will meet for a graveside service on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at 2pm at Tignor Family Cemetery in Brumley Gap. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
