Robert David Moore, Sr.
Mr. Robert David Moore Sr., 72, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Meadowview and was preceded in death by his parents, James Frank and Verna Gilly Moore; and a brother, Fred Moore.
He was retired from the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam and was a life member of the D.A.V. and the V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Molly Moore, Meadowview; three sons, Jerry Moore, Hueytown, Ala., Hollis "Buck" Moore, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Robert D. Moore Jr., North Carolina; two daughters, Frances Power, Meadowview and Phyllis Jane Sowle, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Bill Moore, Meadowview and Jerry Douglas Moore, Meadowview; four sisters, Betty Boswell, Willow Spring, N.C., Mary Alice Moore, Pasadena, Md., Sylvia Sordillo, Baltimore, Linda Newman, Warnick, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn., with honors to be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Detail from Fort Campbell, Ky.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-9 p.m. in the funeral home.
Dewey E. Anderson, Sr.
Mr. Dewey Edward Anderson Sr., 87, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Dewey was a son of the late Oscar Anderson and Liza Jane Lane Anderson, and was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was a member of Trigg Street Church of God and was a retired construction worker and farmer. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosie Anderson; a son, Lewis Anderson; a daughter, Violet Sue Anderson; and his sisters, Elmar, Onie and Melissa.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Anderson; four sons, Bill Anderson of Abingdon, Bobby Anderson of Maryland, Junior Anderson of Atlanta and Charles Anderson of Salem, Va.; three daughters, Dorothy Blevins of Johnson City and Jaunita Cox and Betty Woods, both of Bristol Tennessee; a brother, John Anderson of Bristol Virginia; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, in Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor James Beaver and Pastor Larry Bales officiating. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park.
Casketbearers will be Bill Anderson, Junior Anderson, Jonathan Reynolds, Robert Anderson, Richard Cox and John Ray Cox.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mack J. Blackwell, Jr.
Mr. Mack Jefferson Blackwell Jr., 72, passed away at Johnston Memorial Hospital on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002. He was a native of Saltville and was a son of the late Mack Jefferson Blackwell Sr.
Mack was a 1951 graduate of Virginia Military Institute with a B.S. degree in civil engineering. He was a four-year U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was an engineer and advertising consultant for Olin Chemical Corp., Thompson and Litton Associates, S & S Corp. and Ingersoll Rand. He was the owner of Blackwell & Associates, which he opened in 1993.
He was a lover of music, having played the trumpet since age 14 and with several bands during the "Big Band Era." He directed the choir at Madam Russell United Methodist Church in Saltville for 15 years and sang in and directed choirs at Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church and Abingdon United Methodist Church, of which he was a member.
Mack had served on the administrative board of Johnston Memorial Hospital for 20 years, serving as president for a number of years. He was a member of the Emory & Henry Board of Visitors, a member of the board of the Washington County Industrial Development Authority and a member and past-president of the Virginia Highlands Society.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Preston Blackwell; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Becky Blackwell of Abingdon; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Dave Williamson of Roanoke; his mother, Bess Blackwell of Saltville; a sister, Dorothy Thompson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one nephew; and two nieces.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in Abingdon United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Rowland and Rev. Betty Reiff officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held in the fellowship hall immediately after the service.The committal and entombment service will be private.

Charles Floyd Wilcox
Mr. Charles Floyd "Chuck" Wilcox, 42, unexpectedly went to Heaven in the arms of angels on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at home. He was born in Norfolk and moved to Maryland in 1961. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Floyd K. Bott; grandparents, Cora and Virgil Wilcox; a niece, Melissa Schaum; and aunt, Peggy F. Tolliver.
He is survived by his parents who loved him very much, John Roy and Bonnie Bott Wilcox of Perry Hall; loving sisters, Darlen and husband, Kenny Grupp, and Jeanette and husband, Chris Schaum Sr., all of Perry Hall; loving brother John Roy Wilcox Jr. of Perry Hall; special grandmother, Blanche Louise Bott of Abingdon; special nephews and niece who were loved by Chuck, Chris Schaum Jr., Danny Grupp, Brent Grupp and Samantha Schaum, all of Perry Hall; special aunts and uncles, Mary and Norman Herrin, Myrtle and Glen Evans and Louise Callahan; and several cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at 5:30 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bob McCormick officiating. A committal service will be held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service.
Pallbearers will be Danny Grupp, Chris Schaum Jr., Brent Grupp, Chris Schaum Sr., Kenny Grupp, Wayne Houser, Joe Tolliver and Stephen Zappardo. Honorary pallbearer will be John Roy Wilcox Jr.

Virginia G. Webb
Mrs. Virginia Geneva Webb, age 34, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at home.
She was employed by the Metal Casting Company, Bristol Virginia, and was a 1987 graduate of John S. Battle High School.
She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Ray Webb; a nephew, Daniel Ryan Armstrong; and her grandparents, Arthur and Nora Thomas and Arch and Lilly Skeens.
Survivors include her son, Bobby Keith Webb; her parents, Carl Buford and Ruby Thomas Skeens; sisters, Nina Tate and Syndi Tate; and a brother, Carl Skeens Jr., all of Bristol Virginia; six nephews; two nieces; one great-nephew; six aunts, two uncles; several cousins; special friends, Dewey Carrier, Lisa Dottery and Barbara Armstrong.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clyde Gamble and Rev. Mahlon Wyatt officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Angelina Kaferlein
Mrs. Angelina Kaferlein, 72, of Bristol Virginia, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at the Wellmont Hospice House. She was born in Ravenswood, N.Y., and had lived most of her life in New York before moving to Washington County, Va., in 1989. She was a member of the First Christian Church and preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kaferlein.
She is survived by three sons, Charles Kaferlein of Freeport, N.Y., and Harry Kaferlein and Glenn Kaferlein, both of Dunedin, Fla.; two daughters, Christine Perkins of Dunedin and Karen Phelps of Bristol Virginia; one brother, Sam Provisero of Woodbury, N.Y.; one sister, Joyce Schwenter of Dunedin; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at 4 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Mr. Roger Phelps and Mr. Richard Pannell officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Sylvia Ann Mattison
Sylvia Ann Mattison, 42, of 448 Cummings St. died at home Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002. She was a native of Baltimore and had moved to the Abingdon area in 1993. She was a member of the Household of Faith Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Faye Fulkner and Mrs. Hortensia Francine Nophlin, both of Baltimore, and Mrs. Cecilia E. Mattison of Abingdon; three brothers, Mr. William Nophlin and Mr. Tyrone Nophlin, both of Baltimore, and Mr. Clyde Anthony Nophlin of Bristol Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at a later date at the March Funeral Home in Baltimore with Pastor Jacqueline L. Nophlin officiating.
Elizabeth B. Stallard
Mrs. Elizabeth Burton Stallard, 81, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, in the Lewis-Gale Hospital, Salem, Va.
She was born June 21, 1921, in Bluefield, W.Va., to Luther ad Amy Kathleen Burton and was preceded in death by her husband, Everette I. Stallard on Nov. 7, 2001.
Elizabeth was a girl scout leader for many years in Lebanon. She loved to read a book a day and when she was younger, she loved to do crafts. For the past few months, she loved feeding birds and enjoyed bird watching.
Survivors include two children, Daniel R. Stallard Sr. and his wife Priscilla, Salem, Va.,. and Darlene Herndon and her husband, Graham, Abingdon; a stepson, Richard Stallard and his wife, Beverly, Charlotte, N.C.; five grandsons, Daniel Stallard Jr., Jon Marc Herndon, Dwayne Herndon, Richard Herndon and Josh Stallard; a granddaughter, Kerri L. Stallard; eight great-grandchildren, Nicole, Katie, Jenalee, Luke, Ryland, Jacob, Cody and Parker; and two brother and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Stallard Jr., Jon Marc Herndon, Dwayne Herndon, Richard Herndon, Josh Stallard, Ronnie King, Brad Lunsford, Jason Lunsford and Jered West.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the graveside in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon. Family and friends may assemble at the funeral home by 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday for the procession to the cemetery.

Nina Owens Eads
Mrs. Nina Owens Eads, age 81, died Sunday, October 13, 2002 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur C. Eads and was a member of the Abingdon Bible Church.
Survivors include a son, Randall a. Eads and his wife, Angela C. of Abingdon; grandsons Randall C. Eads of Knoxville, Tn and Joe Eads of Starkville, MS.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor Paul Bufford officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Rosie B. Lang
Mrs. Rosie B. Lane, 89, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and was preceded in death by her husbands, Lawrence G. Brummett and John Lane; and a son, Junior Lee Brummett. She was a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church and attended the Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Marvin Brummett, Newton, N.C.; two daughters, Lula M. Hughes, Newton and Lois Jane Lang, Abingdon; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Arnold officiating.
Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Mendota, Va.
Pallbearers will be Rick Lang, Billy Dixon, Harold Spencer, Gary Lynn Brummett, Byron Brummett and Darrell Brummett.

James F. Nicely
James Floyd Nicely, 84, died Oct. 16, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon after an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Walter C. and Dema Whittington Nicely. He was born July 14, 1918, in Middleway, Jefferson County, W.Va. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations stationed on the Island of Leyte in the Philippines. He was a staff sergeant in the Adjutant General Department 648th RC, 28th Replacement Depot, Tacloban, Leyte. He was award the Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
After the war, he joined a young industry in Baltimore as their plant manager. This company was in the process of developing and manufacturing panelized homes. He was instrumental in developing some of the manufacturing methods that became standards in the industry. For a number of years he owned and operated Jefferson Engineering, a building company, and Nicely's Supply, a building supply store in Charles Town, W.Va. He moved to Washington County, Va., from Westfield, Mass., in 1973 and entered the commercial building field. He supervised the construction of several school buildings in Wise County, Va. He also served as clerk of works for the Wise County Board of Education on two other schools.
He was a member of the Meadowview United Methodist Church, held a number of church offices during that time and served as a substitute Sunday School teacher.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Harry L. Nicely and Edna W. Pifer; a son, Leonard C. Nicely; and two grandsons, James Alan and Daniel Lee Nicely.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Louise Stuckey Nicely; his children, James Robert Nicely and wife Myrna L. of Dawsonville, Ga., and Mrs. Leonard C. (Suzanne) Nicely, Kingsport; one brother, Laurence C. Nicely of Bluefield, Va.; grandchildren, Brent L. Nicely and his wife Mary Ann of Dawsonville, Christopher D. Nicely of Eljay, Ga., Deborah L. Sorensen and her husband David Sorensen of Flowery Branch, Ga., Malinda L. Williams and her husband Dr. Scott Williams, VM of Kingsport, Martha L. Gregory and her husband Jeffrey P. Gregory of Knoxville and Marjorie L. McCoy and her husband Darrell Lee McCoy of Kingsport; his seven great-great-grandchildren, Brittany D. Nicely, Dixie Lee Nicely, Jessica L. Long, Claton Cody Long, Jeffrey Chad Gregory, Conner C. Gregory and Megan Lee McCoy.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at 7:30 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Beverly C. Robinette and Rev. Ernest Yeatts Jr. officiating.

Jane J. Mersdorf
Jane Jeannette Mersdorf, 83, of Bristol Virginia, passed away Wednesday. Oct. 16, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice. She was born in Chicago and retired in Sun City, Ariz., in 1976. She moved to The Grand Court in Bristol two years ago where she enjoyed the fellowship of the staff and residents. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Mabel Struck and was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Wilson Mersdorf. Jane was a retired employee of the Sherwin-Williams Company having worked for 24 years. She was spiritually comforted by the members of the State Street United Methodist Church during her illness.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Curtis (Marilyn) Jackson of Abingdon; a sister, Polly Yohe of San Jacinto, Calif.; grandson, Brad Lower and wife Lorie of Fort Mill, S.C.; granddaughter, Rebecca Lower of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and two great-granddaughters, Louise and Dorothy Lower of Fort Mill, S.C.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Knollkreg Memorial Park with Rev. Betty Reiff officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Hazel W. Taylor
Mrs. Hazel W. Taylor, age 83, died Friday, October 18, 2002 at the Valley Healthcare. She was born in Pennsylvania County, Virginia and moved to Washington County in 1953. She was a member of the Glade Spring Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow W. Taylor, and a grandson, Jason Todd "Jay Tee" Taylor.
She is survived by three sons, John W. Taylor, Marvin L. Taylor and Thomas G. Taylor all of Meadowview, VA.; one daughter, Carole T. Billings of Roanoke, VA; two brothers, Bobby Wall or Bristol, Tn and David Wall of Danville, VA; eight sisters, Beryl Soyars of Cascade, VA, Louise Dalton, Esther Soyars, Lorna Hughes, Dorothy Sowell, Nancy Garwood, June Hylton and Patsy Pyron all of Danville, VA.; 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, October 20, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dennis Blazier officiating. Burial will follow in the Knollkreg Memorial Park. Ethel V. Coney
Mrs. Ethel Virginia Coney, 93, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born in Laurel Bloomery, Tenn., and had lived most of her life in Washington County. She was of the Christian faith and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Coney.
She is survived by three nieces, Sharon Giles and husband, Bob, of Knoxville, Donna Stephen of Fort Worth, Texas, and Carla Reece of Littleton, Colo.; a great-niece, Alyssa Giles; a great-nephew, Darren Giles; and a special friend, Mrs. Doris Dunn of Bristol Virginia.
A graveside service will be conducted Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at 4 p.m. in Knollkreg Memorial Park with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Thelma F. Arnold
Mrs. Thelma Frances Arnold, 83, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2002, in the Guggenheimer Nursing Home in Lynchburg, Va. She was a native of Washington County and a daughter of the late Joseph Grace and Edgar Cutty Grace. Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by her husband, James William "Gee" Arnold; and sister, Irene Adams and Bonnie Taylor. She was a member of the Washington Springs Untied Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James A. Arnold and Shirley Arnold of Lynchburg; and several very special nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 , in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. R.J. Cullop officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring, Va.

John R. Robins
Mr. John Robert Robins, 79, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, in the Grace Health Care Center in Abingdon. Born in Russell County, he was a son of the late James Evans Robins and Martha Cooper Robins.
Mr. Robins was of the Baptist faith, a retired employee of the Washington County Service Authority and was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pauline E. Mann Robins; a son, Richard Robins and wife Brenda of Abingdon; a sister, Pearl Bricker of Chilhowie; four brothers, Beecher Robins of Fairfax, Va., Charlie Robins, Clarence Robins and James Alfred Robins, all of Meadowview; three grandchildren, Mary Rasnake, Randy Robins and Kathy Robins; two step-grandchildren, James Lewis and Marshall Lewis; two great-grandchildren, Candice Rasnake and Dakota Rasnake; five step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Wesley Price and Rev. Jason Nunley officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Marvin G. Thomas
Mr. Marvin Glenn Thomas, 39, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002. Born in Smyth County, he was a son of the late Wiley Thomas and Maelee Doss Thomas, and had lived most of his life in Washington County. Marvin was also preceded in death by a brother, Glen Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda McCracken Thomas; his children, Dustin A. Thomas and Kimberly Ann Thomas both of the home; two brothers, C.J. Thomas and David Thomas, both of Damascus; five sisters, Hazel Thomas of Bristol Tennessee, Minnie Nichols and Betsy Thomas, both of Abingdon, Janice Witt of Bristol Virginia, and Martha Stanley of Damascus; and 15 nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Norris officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Glade Spring.

Ellis Viers
Mr. Ellis Viers, 78, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Buchanan County and moved to Abingdon in 1978. He was the former owner of Viers Supply Company in Grundy where he was known as the "candy man". He was former owner of Virginia Hills Motel in Abingdon.
He was the son of the late Robert L. and Mebie Clevenger Viers. He was an avid bowler that participated in bowling leagues in Grundy. He enjoyed collecting antiques and restoring old cars. He had a love for animals. He was a member of Highlands Christian Fellowship in Abingdon.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ellis S. "Bud" Viers; one brother, Raymond Clyde Viers; and one sister, Mary Ruth Viers.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Smith Viers; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and John O'Brien of Grundy, Connie and Bill Stiltner of Myrtle Beach, and Pat and Ted Shanklin of Abingdon; one sister, Dessie Arms of Abingdon; eight grandsons; two granddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Alan Moor and John Stapleton officiating. Entombment will follow in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend special appreciation to Dr. Guy Tillinghast and staff for their special care for Mr. Viers. Due to sensitive allergies, the family also requests that those attending the service refrain from the use of perfumes and colognes.
Thomas "Wayne" Brown
Mr. Thomas Wayne Brown, 43, of Bristol Virginia, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Tazewell County and had lived most of his life in Richlands until moving to Bristol 2 1/2 years ago. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Lillie Mae Brown; and two sisters, Bertha Mae Elswick and Jennelle Childess.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanetta Compton Brown; one son, Thomas Anthony Brown and wife, Mary of Bristol Tennessee; two daughters, Genita Mae Charles and husband, Jerry of Bristol Tennessee, and Sara Brown and fiancÈ, Rickey of the home; five brothers, Elmer Brown of Jewell Ridge, Va., Gene Brown of Middle Creek, Va., Michael Brown of Bandy, Va., and Arthur Brown and Earl Brown, both of South Carolina; and two grandchildren, Joshua and McKenzie.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Rush Creek Cemetery with Rev. Mike Roberts and Rev. Bobby Joe Earls officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Paul Compton, Rickey Sandlin, Wayne Compton, Aaron Compton, Jonathan Brown and Nathan Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Compton, Jason Compton, Shawn Roberts, Adam Brown, Clyde Watson and Jackie Street.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family. Family and friends are to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. Friday for a procession to the cemetery.
William E. Richardson, Jr.
Mr. William E. "Rick" Richardson, Jr., age 49, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2002 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Rick was a lifelong resident of Washington County, a member of Highlands Christian Fellowship and was preceded in death by his father, William E. Richardson Sr.
He was an accountant for Glenn Phillips Survey Group and also worked for Abingdon Spatial Technologies. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Highlands Community Services, a lifetime member of the Abingdon Jaycees, a member of the Abingdon High School PTA Board and was a member of the tech crew for the Abingdon High School Falcon Band. Rick was a graduate of Abingdon High School, Virginia Polytechnic Institued (VPI) and the University of Virginia at Wise.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Huff Richardson; two daughters, Jillian Richardson and Suzanne Richardson; and his mother, Mrs. Jackie Richardson, all of Abingdon.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jimmie Davidson officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at 2:30 p.m. in the West End Cemetery, Wytheville. Those attending the graveside service are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Ingle, Gail Kiser, John Stapleton, Johnny Lester, John Puckett, Glenn Phillips, Mike Barker, Mark Redman. Honorary pallbearers will be the Highlands Tech Crew Ministry.

Pierce W. Quesenberry
Mr. Pierce William Quesenberry, 89, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in Wellmont Hospice, Bristol Tennessee.
Mr. Quesenberry was a native of West Virginia and had resided in Washington County for the past 50 years. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Yates Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Clintwood, Va. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elva Caudill Quesenberry.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Mullins Quesenberry; three sons, Calvin Quesenberry and wife Sharon, Malcolm Quesenberry, Homer Quesenberry and wife Ella, and Bill Quesenberry and wife, Barbara, all of Abingdon; a daughter, Connie Crabtree and husband, Don, Abingdon; stepchildren, Freddie Mullins and wife, Lovetta, Clintwood, Faye Church and husband, Freddie, Clintwood, Sue Sutherland and husband, Rod, Powhatan, Va.,. Nancy Belcher and husband, Terry, Pikeville, Ky., Denese Osborne and husband, J.R., Knoxville, Letrena Raleigh and husband, Ricky, Clintwood, Joyce Crabtree, Abingdon; special nurse, Lavonda Cole; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Eddy Guinn and Mr. and Mrs. Greg Guinn; 29 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a special family member, Sharon H. Quesenberry, Bristol Virginia.

Bonnie O. Casey
Mrs. Bonnie O. Casey, 83, died Saturday, October 26, 2002 at Grace Health Care in Abingdon. She was born in Johnson County, Tennessee on March 23, 1919. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church where she helped teach Sunday School and Bible School. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. (Jim) Casey, her mother and father, four sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by one son, David (Tommy) Casey and wife Cleo of Abingdon; four grandchildren, Linda Swift and husband James of Mountain City, Ricky Casey and wife Linda of Meadowview, David Casey and wife Sharon of Abingdon, and Ronald Dale Casey of Mountain City; three sisters, Ester Buchanan of Bristol, VA, Kate Buchanan of Maryland and Gay Morrison of Meadowview; eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday, October 28, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kathy Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Bethel Presbyterian Church.

Tanner Bryan Haynes
Tanner Bryan Haynes, age 7, was born into heaven Saturday, October 26, 2002 in the Johnson City Medical Center.
Tanner was born in Bristol Tennessee, and had lived all of his life in Glade Spring. He attended the Byars-Cobbs United Methodist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church. He attended Meadowview Elementary School. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Herbert L. Haynes.
Survivors include his parents, Bryan and Terrena Haynes; three sisters, Meagan Haynes, Katlyn Haynes and Molly Haynes, all of Glade Spring; his paternal grandmother, Jackie Sproles, Glade Spring; maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Loudene Dotson, Grundy; maternal great-grandmother, Roxie Skeens, Abingdon.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jim Denton officiating.
Entombment will follow in Mt. Rose Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Watson, Randy Robertson, Anthony Boyd and Lance McGlocklin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Mark Sapp and Dr. Matt Kraisin.

Jonathan D. Coleman
Jonathan Dione Coleman, age 26, died Sunday, October 27, 2002 in a Richmond area hospital. He was born October 21, 1976 in Washington County.
He is survived by his parents, Dave Coleman and Rose Slaughter Coleman of Glade Spring; a brother, Devon Coleman of Chilhowie; his maternal grandfather, Norvel Slaughter of Bedford, VA and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2002 at the graveside in the Blacksburg Community Cemetery with Rev. Harry Lee Lampkins and Rev. Melvin Johnson officiating. Those attending the funeral service are asked to assemble at the cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
Josephine Ballou
Mrs. Josephine Ballou, age 80, died Monday, October 28, 2002 at the Valley Health Care in Chilowie, Va. Born in Washington County, she was a daughter of the late George Doyle and Nannie Lester Doyle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ballou and was a member of the Bryar-Cobb United Methodist Church in Glade Spring.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane B. Marchant and Sheila Lewis both of Glade Spring, VA; a grandson, Lee Hall and two great grandchildren.
It was the wish of Mrs. Ballou to be cremated. There will be no memorial services scheduled.
Margaret B. Puckett
Mrs. Margaret B. Puckett, 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at her home. She was born in Cleveland, Va., and in 1947 moved to Coeburn, where she and her husband operated a grocery store. In October 1966, Mrs. Puckett moved to Abingdon. She was of the Church of the Brethren faith and enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and quilting. She was the widow of Thomas Jefferson Puckett and the daughter of the late Gran and Amy Sutherland Rasnake of Cleveland. She was preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Lou Puckett of Abingdon and Nancy Puckett Parker and husband Fred of Meadowview. Also surviving are special nieces, Betty JoAnn Rasnake of Lebanon, Sherri Harvey and husband Marty of Johnson City, Tammy Burke and husband Gary of Suffolk, Va., and Lori Beth Burke of Suffolk; nephews, Eddie Rasnake of Lebanon and Jonathan Dean Harvey of Johnson City; special friend, Virginia Buskell of Abingdon; special pet, "Princess"; and other nieces and nephews from the Fanis family.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. J. Fred Parker and the Rev. Mike Bowers officiating. Family and friends may meet at the funeral home for a procession to the cemetery
at 10:45.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Rasnake, Gary Burke, Marty Harvey, Richard Fanis, Jonathan Dean Harvey, Ralph Booher Sr. and Jim Holmes. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Campbell, Dan Stevens and Jack Taylor.

Kenneth V. Potter
Kenneth Vincent Potter, age 59, died at his home Wednesday, October 30, 2002. He moved to Abingdon 14 years ago from Wilmington, Delaware and was a former employee of Martha Washington Inn.
Survivors include two brothers, Daniel E. Potter, Sr. of Saltville, VA and Charles Morris of Chicago, IL; one sister, Carol Ann Major of New Castle, Delaware; three nieces, Michele L. Davis, Rose Marie Torne and Mary L. Potter; two nephews, Daniel E. Potter, Jr. and C. Scott Potter; three great nieces and two great nephews.
He was preceded in death by one niece, Donna M. Potter.
Funeral services for Kenneth V. Potter will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2002 at Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul Price officiating. Burial will be private.

Tracy V. Humphrey
Mr. Tracy V. Humphrey, age 31, died Thursday, October 31, 2002 in the Pottsville Hospital in Schuykill County, PA. Tracy was born on July 31, 1971 in Pottsville, PA.
He is a son of Kermit Humphrey and Mary Christine Barrett Humphrey of Pine Grove, PA. Other survivors include his sister, Treva Dillow of Glade Spring, VA; two brothers, Travis Humphrey of Tremont, PA and Trevor Humphrey of Salem, AI; his paternal grandmother, Ida Humphrey of Glade Spring, VA and nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Cumbow officiating. Intermant will follow Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery in Glade Spring.
Casketbearers will be James Cumbow, Jr., Kim Dillow, Tony Barrett, Mike Barrett, Gary Barrett, Chester Jenkins, Wiley Humphrey and Dennis Ball.
