BLUFF CITY - Dorothy "Dot" Lyon, 65, of 228 Minuteman Drive went to be with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Boyd and Mattie Myers Fugate. She was a native of Kingsport and had lived most of her life in the Bluff City area. She was a 41-year employee of Sprint, where she worked in the publishing department. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Bluff City.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Lyon of Bluff City; daughter, Leslie Burke and husband, Chris, of Bristol Tennessee; sisters Betty Williams, Faye Nuckles, Kay Hammond and Ruby Calhoun; brothers Carl Fugate, Tommy Fugate and Buddy Fugate; grandson Aaron Burke; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Thursday at 6 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Watson officiating. The family received friends Thursday from 5-6 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Suite 102, Johnson City, TN 37601.

MARION - Deward Bellmont Miller, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2002, in Francis Marion Manor.

Ewing Mullins
NORTON - Ewing "Toots" Mullins, 84, was lifted to Heaven on angel wings Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, from his home on Thackers Branch Road after a battle with Lou Gerhrigs Disease. Toots was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a founding member of the Old Dominion Sportsman Association. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Glessie Blanton Mullins; two daughters, Billie Wright and Donna Mullins; three brothers; and five sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Mullins of Norton; four daughters, Sue Minor of Wise, Jackie Cooke of Norton, Peggy Wampler of Big Stone Gap and Reedy Estep of Gate City; three sons, Ronal Mullins of Spartanburg , S.C., Mark Mullins of Norton and Tommy Mullins of Wise; sister, Lillian Boles of Norton; 14 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, stepchildren, relatives, friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Allen Culbertson officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in White Oak Gap Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by Norton VFW Post 4301. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the local food bank.
Berith L. Munro
Berith L. Munro, 68, of Maple Farm Nursing Center, formerly of 106 Park Lane, Lititiz, Pa., and Ephrata, Pa., died Wednesday.
Born in Abingdon, she was the daughter of the late Enoch and Leacy Powers Denton.
She worked as a homemaker and was a former food service manager for the Ephrata School District.
She was a Christian.
Surviving are her husband, Albert Munro; two sons, Daryl Morehead of Lancaster, Pa., and Gary Morehead of Phoenix, Ariz.; four stepsons, Albert Munro of Spring City, Pa., John Munro of Boyertown, Pa., Gregory Munro of Columbia, S.C., and Keith Munro of Bethlehem, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Cynthia Munro of Spring City; two brothers, Alvin Denton and Kenneth Denton, both of Abingdon; two grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Saturday in Leola, Pa.

CEDAR BLUFF - Mrs. Artie M. Osborne, 91, of the Baptist Valley section died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bernice Mash, following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Tazewell County, Va., and was a daughter of the late Will and Ida Wyatt Ball, both Tazewell County natives.
She was a lifelong resident of the Cedar Bluff, Doran and Richlands areas and was a former nursing assistant at Mattie Williams Hospital. She was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Harmon Osborne; two daughters, Doris Jennings and Beatrice Short; one son, Bill Osborne; two sons-in-law, Walter Jennings and Burford Mash; one sister, Molly Boyd; and two brothers, Arch and Avery Ball.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Bernice Mash of Cedar Bluff; one son, Mr. Steven Osborne and wife, Connie, of Falconer, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Joan Osborne of Swords Creek, Va.; son-in-law, Gene Short of Rising Sun, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Ray of Raven, Va., and Mrs. Lola Newberry of Pine Creek, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at 4:30 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Roger Monk and Rev. Jerry Welch officiating. Interment will follow in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands. Grandsons and relatives will serve as pallbearers. CEDAR BLUFF - Miss Anita Gail Price, 35, of the College Estates section passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va., following a brief illness. Born in Martinsville, Va., she was the daughter of Arthur (Ted) and Linda Elkins Price of College Estate Road. She had spent her entire life in Tazewell County. She attended Tazewell County schools and was a 1985 gradute of Lebanon High School. At the time of her death, she was employed as a customer service manager at Wal-Mart in Pounding Mill, Va. Miss Price was a member of Souls Harbor Church.
She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, John Price; and maternal grandparents, Otis and Texie Elkins.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Stephen Price and Wesley Price of College Estate Road; paternal grandmother, Vergie Price of Martinsville; and two special friends, Judith Kennedy and Anita York.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Singleton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jack Keen and Rev. Jeff Rose officiating. CLEVELAND, Va. - Lora Agnes Rasnake, 83, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Lutishia Rasnake; one sister, Edith Earls; two brothers, Delmer and Carl Rasnake; one special niece, Debbie Bandy; and a special nephew, Ricky Johnson. She was of theBaptist faith.
Survivors include two brothers, Hobert Ernest Rasnake of Tombstone, Ariz., and William R. Rasnick of Clintwood; one sister, Shirley Johnson of Cleveland, Va.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Owens Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Duane Musick officiating. Interment will follow at Ketron Memorial Garden, Lebanon.

WISE - Hannah Melbia (Mullins) Riner, 88, was called home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Norton Community Hospital, Norton.
She was a member of Glamorgan Chapel and was an avid homemaker.
Hannah was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel G. Mullins and Amy (Smith) Mullins; and one sister, Lola Gilliam.
Surviving are her husband, William Riner; three sons, Robert Riner, Wayne Riner and Gary Riner; one sister, Kathryn Barker of Wise; two brothers, Gilford Mullins and Ransom Mullins, both of Wise; and her future heritage is four grandchildren, Greg, Amy, Samuel and Daniel.

Ruth Elizabeth Carrier, 80, of Bristol Tennessee died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a life long resident of Sullivan County and a daughter of the late Cleve and Minnie Tester Lunsford. She was a member of Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church and was the widow of Hobert William Carrier. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Millie Horne; a son, Lonnie Carrier; and a granddaughter, Dedi Horne.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Darlene Carrier of Bristol Tennessee; a son, Lawrence Carrier of Jonesborough, Tenn.; a sister, Ruth Johnson of Bristol; two brothers, J.C. Lunsford and Carl Lunsford, both of Bristol; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Penny Johnson.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning in the Paul Cook Memorial Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Light officiating. Born in Virginia, she was the daughter of Laura Robinette Goodman of Raven and the late Oda Goodman.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Simmons; and three brothers, Curtis, Tom and Clarence Goodman.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, William Hallin of Chicago; one son, William (Butch) Hallin Jr. of Chicago; one daughter, Kelly Hallin of Chicago; mother, Laura Robinette Goodman of Raven, Va.; one brother, Clyde Goodman and wife Linda of Richlands; four sisters, Cathy Goodman of Raven, Bonnie Fields and husband Buddy of Lebanon, Helen Griffith of Swords Creek, Va.,. and Lillie Mae Walls and husband Buford of Luray, Va.; and four grandchildren, Shawn, Joshua, Cordale and Dedira Hallin.

RAVEN, Va. - Mr. Arthur Burt Joyce, also known as Bobby Lee Lowe, 61, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at his home following a long illness.
Born in Goochland, Va.,. he was the son of the late Bert and Ethel Shelton Lowe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Robert Lee Lowe and one half brother, Estil Joyce.
He is survived by an ex-wife, Phyllis Joyce Asbury of Richlands; an ex-wife, Frances Holmes of Whitewood, Va.; two sons, Bobby Lowe Jr. of Whitewood and Michael Lowe of N. Tazewell; three daughters, Brenda Lee Hill of Swords Creek, Va., Barbara Lowe Vanhoosier of Horsepen, Va.,. and Glenna Assertine of British Columbia, Canada; one stepson, Daniel Proffitt of Short Gap, Va.; one stepdaughter, Melissia Davis of Rockville, Md.; one half brother, Doyle Joyce Jr. of Short Gap; six grandchildren, Randy Lowe, Jeffrey Lowe, Crystal Walls, Amanda Walls, Brandi Boyd and Kourtni Betcher; and two great-grandchildren also survive.

RADFORD - Harvey Benjamin Linkous, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at the New River Valley Medical Center. He was a longtime member of the Radford Pentecostal Holiness Church. Harvey was a loving, devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be truly missed. His son and daughter-in-law, Bentley and Minnie Linkous preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Ava Baker Linkous; his children, Ted and Mary Linkous of Bristol, Don and Jeane Linkous of Abingdon, Jack and Beck Linkous of Hardy, Mike and Pam Linkous of Richburg, S.C., and Libbi and Lee Hicks of Radford; his grandchildren, Roger Linkous, Greg and Rose Linkous, Brady and Autumn Linkous, Jackie Linkous, Matthew Hicks, Brian and Tory Pegran and James and Brooke Welch; great-grandchildren, Debra and Benjamin Linkous; sisters, Birdie Albert of Christiansburg, Melovie and Russell Turner of Montcalm, W.Va.; and several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and special friends. Opal F. Litton
BIG STONE GAP - Opal Gertrude Fields Litton, 78, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap surrounded by her loving family. Born one of 11 children to the late Silas and Molly Fields, she was raised in Inman, Va., and lived her entire life in the Appalachia and Big Stone Gap area. Opal was a devoted member of the Appalachia First Baptist Church and an active member of the community. Along with her late husband, Gilmer C. Litton Sr., she helped build and owned and operated Litton's Fabrics in Big Stone Gap for more than 25 years. She was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Fields, Edith Leonard, Mary Hampton, Flossie Doppler; and one brother, Estle Fields.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Gilmer C. and Nancy Litton Jr. of Hurricane, W.Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Buren Bloomer of Big Stone Gap; grandchildren, Felicia Bloomer Dalton, Amy Litton, Robert C. "Bobby" Bloomer, Dana Litton Kohute and Marisha Bloomer Roberts; great-grandchildren, Grant and Ty Bloomer, Patrick and Alex Dalton, Madeline Litton and Grace Kohute; brother, Thomas and Vera Fields of Kingsport; and sisters, Lillian Jean Waldron of Seaford, Del., Gladys Swann of Selbyville, Del., Emily Towe of Mosheim, Tenn.,. and Evelyn and Dan McKinney of Big Stone Gap. Also left behind are several nieces and nephews and many close and dear friends that Opal touched with her love and friendship.
