LEBANON - Harry Clark Jr., 80, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, in the Russell County Medical Center.
Born June 23, 1921, a son of the late William Clark and Hattie Adams Clark, he was a retired painter.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Reed Clark and Russell Clark; and one sister, Lillie Cook.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Monk Clark; one daughter, Delilah Long and husband Bill, Lebanon; three grandchildren, Pfc. Will Long, Ft. Campbell, Ky., Maggie Long and Hannah Long, both of Lebanon; and two nieces, Debbie Guinn and Linda Kay Harmon.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jeff Lasley, Bill Long, Will Long, Fred Sutherland, Jim Marshall, Mark Williams and Mike Wolfe. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at the funeral home.

VANSANT - Gladys Owens Colley, 74, of Route 1, passed away May 4, 2002, at Buchanan General Hospital. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late George Washington and Matilda Thomas Owens. She was a homemaker and was of the Freewill Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Roland Colley; two sons, Cleveland and Clayton Owens; and two brothers, Lee and Roy Owens.
Survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, James Edward and Linda Colley, Dayton, Ohio, Danny Ray and Glenda Colley, Council, Va., Donald Lee and Mildred Colley, Earl Keith and Bonita Colley, Ralph and Juanita Colley and Jeffrey Todd and Linda Colley, all of Vansant; one sister, Ines Owens, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Haysi Funeral Home with Rev. Kyle Ratliff, Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Denver Barton. Burial will follow in the Colley Cemetery, Route 1, Vansant. Pallbearers will be Daniel Colley, James Colley, Timmy Colley, Andrew Colley, Chris Colley, Johnny Colley and Jimmy Colley. Cuba Catherine Fuller
KINGSPORT - Cuba Catherine Ratcliffe Fuller, 103, of 1445 Bridwell St., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 4, 2002, at 647 Dora St., Kingsport, the residence of her daughters, Edna Hankins and Dalmyra Boardwine, with whom she had resided for the last several years of her life.
Ms. Fuller was born Nov. 21, 1898, in Honaker, a daughter of the late Cecil C. and Ritta Jessee Ratcliffe. She was married to Ellis Larkin Fuller in 1914, until his passing in 1970. She moved to Kingsport in 1937, with three sons and three daughters. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons and one daughter. They were Dallas, Elwood and Ellis Newlyn Fuller and Lucille Shaw. She was a charter member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, where she was the oldest and one of the first members.
She is survived by her daughters, Edna Hankins an Dalmyra Boardwine of Kingsport. Ms. Fuller was the grandmother of 14 grandchildren. Surviving grandchildren are: Patsy Clowers, Ricky Fuller, Bobby Boardwine, Carolyn Booth, Michael Boardwine, Linda Horne, Jeanie Harless, John Fuller, Ron Shaw, Donna Gibbons,Wanona Zurn, Brian Fuller and Misty Clear.
She was preceded in death by grandchild, Jackie Fuller.
Known to all as "Ma-Maw", Ms. Fuller had 43 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-great-grandchildren. Aiding in Ms. Fuller's care in the last three and half years was Miriam Duffy, who is now considered a member of the family.
Calling hours will be 1-3 p.m. Monday at the East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Gary R. Bement officiating. Graveside service and burial will follow in the East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be the grandsons: Ricky Fuller, Bobby Boardwine, Michael Boardwine, John Fuller, Ron Shaw and Brian Fuller.

Henry Bernard Gibson
Henry Bernard Gibson, 94, formerly of Harrisonburg, Va., died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the Bridgewater Home.
Born in Lebanon, he was a son of the late Henry Smith and Flora Childress Gibson.
Mr. Gibson moved to Harrisonburg from Staunton in 1964. He was a 53-year life member of Local Union No. 10 United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada.
He was the widower of Dorothy Vivian Cowan Gibson.
Surviving are one sister, Lucy G. Haga of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Tuesday in Lebanon.

SALTVILLE - Mr. Otis Lee Guinn, 64, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. He was a native of Washington County.
He is survived by a daughter, Melissa Guinn of Abingdon; a son, Otis Lee Guinn of Ft. Jackson, S.C.; a sister, Judy Guinn of Glade Spring; and three grandchildren, Kevin Lee Otey, Jerry Wayne Otey and Austin Guinn.

Wilson, all of Roanoke; brothers Gene Gill of Bristol, Va., and Landon Gill of Roanoke; sisters Christine Slusher of Roanoke and Linda Horne and Peggy Denton, both of Bristol, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mattie Lou McCoy
CASTLEWOOD - Mattie Lou "Aunt Mank" McCoy, 89, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at the home of James and Lola Grizzle after a brief illness.
She was born in Russell County, the daughter of the late Robert Cross and Mattie Elizabeth Statzer Carty. She was of the Baptist faith. She had been a "care giver" most of her adult life, exemplifying the gifts of helps as mentioned in I Corinthians 12:28. She was a favorite aunt to all her many nieces and nephews who dubbed her with the nickname of "Aunt Mank". She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Brumfield McCoy; three infant sons, Clifford Lee, James Harvey and Thurman Richard McCoy; one granddaughter, Kim McCoy Porter; three sisters; and two brothers. She will be sadly missed "but our loss is heaven's gain".
She is survived by three daughters, Eva Jean McCoy Brooks and husband, Herman, Mary Magdalene McCoy Breeding and husband, Stanley, Lola Ruth McCoy Grizzle and husband, James, all of Castlewood; two sons, Adam McCoy and wife, Madeline, of Castlewood and Clyde McCoy and wife, Barbara, of Dante, Va.; 14 grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, on Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Leonard Ferguson, Rev. Tim Collins and the Rev. Thurman W. Moretz, 74, of 400 Shelby St., Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, May 5, 2002, in the Bristol Nursing Home, Bristol, Tenn.
Mr. Moretz was a native and lifelong resident of the Bristol area. He was a former employee of Moretz Candy Co. for many years and was of the Baptist faith.

Verbeth L. Shuman
ABINGDON - Verbeth Laurine Shuman, born Jan. 13, 1921, in New York City, passed away May 4, 2002. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Adele Horowitz.
She attended Fagan School of Dramatic Arts in New York and moved to Abingdon in 1950. She was active in the theater, acting in local theater productions, including the Barter Theatre of Abingdon. She was a member of B'nai Sholom Congregation in Bristol, Tenn.
She is survived by her husband, Louis Shuman; a daughter, Leslie, and son-in-law, Dr. Fred Kronz of Austin, Texas; a son, Kenny Shuman and daughter-in-law, Doris; and was the loving grandmother to Sidney Adele Clendenen Shuman.

HURLEY, Va. - Bernice Dotson Spencer, 72 years of age, of Left Fork of Paw Paw, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2002, in Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born at War Eagle, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Frances Justus Dotson. She had been a resident of Buchanan County several years, was a member of Bethany Bible Church, and a faithful wife and loving mother.
Mrs. Spencer is survived by her husband of 57 years, Amos Spencer, Hurley; seven daughters, Gladys and husband, Lee Roy Estep, Hurley, Patsy and husband, Leon Estep, Linden, Mich., Judy and husband, Jimmy Addair, Hurley, Brenda and husband, Elmer Daugherty, Waldorf, Md., Mary and husband, Tom Cortner, Waldrof, Md., Tammy Spencer, Waldorf, Md., and Tina Spencer, Hurley; seven sons, Frank and wife, Shirley Spencer, Hurley, Ezra Spencer, Hurley, James Spencer, Hurley, Ace Spencer, Hurley, Hubert D. and wife, Lisa Spencer, Bristol, Va., Troy and wife, Mary Spencer, Bristol, Va., and Jessie Spencer, Hurley; two brothers, William Dotson, Hurley, and Anthony Dotson, Matewan, W.Va.; 31 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Mr. Leslie Stacy, 69, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was retired from John Morrell and Company in Cincinnati after 26 years of service. He was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church. He was a son of Bessie Varney Stacy and the late Willie Stacy.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Ratliff Stacy; son, Mike Stacy of Huntington,W.Va.; daughters, Pam Swentzel of Ashland, Ky., and Lori Pickell of Knoxville; brother, Johnny Stacy of North Carolina; sisters, Peggy Stiltner of Grundy and Dosia Love of Bristol, Va.; and five grandchildren.

Richard "Rick" Watson
Richard Lewis "Rick" Watson, 58, of Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Utah, a son of Walcott Watson, now of Knoxville, and the late Shirley Kiernan Watson, and had lived in Bristol for the past 20 years. He was a graduate of Radford University and East Tennessee State University and was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War. He taught at Bristol Virginia High School for 10 years and then in the Johnson City School System for two years.
Additional survivors include his wife, Rebecca M. "Becky" Watson; a sister, Patricia Waring of Knoxville; two brothers, David Watson of Oak Ridge and Robert Watson of Tampa, Fla.; three nieces; and one nephew.

ABINGDON - Mrs. Josie Sturgill Whited, 84, died Fiday, May 3, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Born in Wise County, she was a daughter of the late Mack and Maggie Mullins. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Willard Sturgill and Roy Whited; two sisters, Elizabeth Gilbson and Lillie Phillips; six brothers, Harrison Mullins, Jim Mullins, Will Mullins, Cossie Mullins, P.J. Mullins and Frank Mullins; a stepson, Blaine Sturgill; and two granddaughters, Jamie Suzanne Poore and Donna Kay Poore.
Mrs. Whited was a former resident of Coeburn and Wise before moving to the Abingdon area in 1988. She was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Maggie Ann Campbell and husband, Roy, of Abingdon and Betty Sue Poore and husband, Chester, of Emory; two stepdaughters, Nellie Elkins and husband, Orville, of Coeburn and Dot Graham and husband, John, of Wise; a granddaughter, Teresa Ann Campbell of Lake Helen, Fla.; two grandsons, Scott Lee Poore of Glade Spring and James Roy Campbell of Abingdon; four step-grandchildren, Tim Graham of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Tammie Graham of Abingdon and Pam Nixon and Sherry Kilgore, both of Coeburn; two great-grandchildren, Josephine Elaine Poore and Adam Scott Poore, both of Glade Spring; and several nieces and nephews.
Interment and graveside committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. Edward A. Dickerson
SUGAR GROVE, Va. - Edward A. Dickerson, 85, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
Mr. Dickerson was born in Charleston, W.Va., to the late Joseph Henry and Mamie Ann Dickerson. He attended parochial schools in Charleston and Sacred Heart High School. He attended Morris Harvey and West Virginia State College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and remained with the Army Reserves until 1953, having attained the rank of master sergeant. He worked in the West Virginia Department of Employment Security. He was later promoted to management and was responsible for coordinating all activities for the "Jobs for Veterans" program.
He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, Disabled American Veterans, the Charleston Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. He held many offices in these organizations. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary V. Dickerson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m., with a Christian prayer service at 7:30 at Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion. A funeral Mass will be offered Monday, May 13, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral in Charleston. Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet. MARION - Dorothy Virginia Anders Dillman, 77, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn. Mrs. Dillman was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church and was retired from American Furniture. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Brandt and Thelma Snider; and one brother, Elmer Anders. She is survived by her husband, Sidney C. Dillman of Marion; one son, Ronald C. Dillman of Marion; one granddaughter, Brandi N. Dillman of Marion; three sisters, Hazel Blevins of Rural Retreat, Gladys Groseclose of Wytheville and Irene Crigger of Piney Flats; two brothers, James M. Anders Sr. of Pasadena, Md., and Thomas G. Anders of Marion; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 11, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Frank Bauman and Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is serving the Dillman family.
