Mullins will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday from the Flemingtown Freewill Baptist Church with Ministers James Moore, Lester Mullins and Luke Wright officiating. Burial will follow at the Jerome Mullins Family Cemetery, Route 3, Clintwood Services will follow at 7 p.m. Pallbearers will be Delmous Bobbitt, Tammy C. Mullins, Michele Buchanan, Eric Lee Mullins, Jerome Buchanan, Paul Moore and Avery Dutton. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
Mrs. Mullins, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital, Kingsport.

Tresia Dingus Perrigan
CLINCHCO, Va. - Tresia D. Perrigan, 67, of Route 1, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at her residence. Born in Bradshaw, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Alva Lee and Tennessee White Dingus. She was a homemaker and a member of Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church. Ms. Perrigan was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Perrigan; a sister, Roberta Keith; and two brothers, Harold Dingus and Bobby Dingus.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna (Edsel) Thacker and Theda (Allen) Viers, all of Clinchco, and Tammy (Don) Kiser of Haysi; three sons, Kurby (Sandra) Perrigan and Roger (Michelle) Perrigan, both of Lorain, Ohio, and Rodney (Mary) Perrigan of Elyria, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Thank you to the hospice and home health nurses and a very special thank you to mommy's angel, Wilma Rice.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Haysi Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Sluss, Rev. Allen Viers and Rev. Jack Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Stevens Cemetery, Route 1, Clinchco. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, where an evening service will be held at 7 p.m. at Haysi Funeral Home.

Betty V. Robinson
BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Mrs. Betty Wayne Vannoy Robinson, 69, departed this life Sept. 23, 2002, in Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris Robinson; mother, Alberta Greenlee; father, Alexander Vannoy; and mother-in-law, Bertha Black.
Survivors: daughter, Mrs. Linda Cummings, Brunswick; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and other family members.
Mrs. Robinson dedicated her life to her family and will be missed greatly by all of those whose life she touched.
Calling hours are noon Saturday, Sept. 28, at New Hope Baptist Church. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the church with Rev. William J. Reid officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Fred J. Tabb, 53, of Bristol Virginia, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Lee Street Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. W.A. Johnson, Pastor Jacqueline Nophlin and Pastor Jacqueline Oxendine officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the church prior to the service. Mary E. Taylor, 60, of 1680 Paperville Road, Lot 18, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at her home.
She was a native of Washington County, Va., and had made her home in the Bristol area most of her life. She was a daughter of the late William P. and Effie Spriggs Widener.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Yielding of Bristol Virginia; three sons, Jerry Taylor, Kevin Taylor and Keith Taylor, all of Bristol Tennessee; three sisters, Madgie Barton of Vinton, Va., Georgie Holmes of Waynesboro, Va., and Ruby Reynolds of Blountville; four brothers, Robert Widener of Bristol Tennessee. James Fred Widener of Milton, Vermont, Edgar Widener of Roanoke and William Widener of Afton, Va.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the graveside in Shipley Cemetery with Pastor Tom Hicks officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Roberts, Charles Woodby, Blake Jordon, Marvin Goodwin and Jason Stiltner. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Akard Funeral Home. James E. Whitley
FRANKLIN, Pa. - James E. Whitley, 57, of 258 Patchel Run Road, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at home.
He was born in Abingdon, a son of the late Walter Edward and Mamie E. Sailor Whitley.
He had worked in the coal mines, in construction, at Polk State School and at one time owned and operated the Mobile Gas Station at 8th Street, in Franklin.
He was the widower of Linda Swartzfager Whitley.
Surviving are daughters, Anita Milheim, Montgomery, Pa., and Shelia Wiley and Brenda Whitley of Franklin; a son, James E. Whitley Jr., Franklin; three brothers, Frank Whitley, David Whitley and Charles Whitley, Abingdon; two sisters, Kathy Whitley, Abingdon and Pauline Little Whitley, Glade Spring; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in Franklin.

Margaret O. Willoughby
Margaret Owens Willoughby, 89, of Bristol Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at her residence. She was a native Bristolian, educated in the Tennessee public schools and Virginia Interment College. She was a life member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, having taught Sunday School class and sang in the choir for many years. She was an avid Duplicate Bridge player. She was preceded in death by a son, Jere; and her husband, James S. Willoughby.
Survivors include: son, Douglas Willoughby and wife Carol of Roanoke; grandsons, Jeffrey and Gregory Willoughby; special nephew, Joe N. Godsey and wife Nancy of Bristol; two nieces; three nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Owens; and sisters, Louise Sharp, Lillian Godsey and Nell Kendle.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Hamilton Fuller officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Saint Francis of Assisi Service Dog Foundation, P.O. Box 8060, Roanoke, VA 24014. Friends may visit with the family after the service.

LEBANON - Fayrene Ball, 69, formerly of Council, Va., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002. Born on Oct. 20, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Mary Tiller Ball.
She is survived by one sister, Geneva Ball of Lebanon; and numerous relatives and friends also survi ve.

Sammy Joe Breeding
SALEM, Va. - Mr. Sammy Joe Breeding, 70, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in Salem.
Sam retired in 1994 from General Electric in Salem after 35 years.
He is survived by is wife and sweetheart of 50 years, Laura Saul Breeding of Salem; one son, Jerry Breeding of Newton, N.C.; one daughter, Sharon Carroll of Roanoke; one brother, John G. Breeding; three granddaughters; and two grandsons.

BLUFF CITY - William Murphy Carrier, 74, 281 Oak Lane, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Sullivan County, and son of the late William and Verlie Carrier. He was a retired employee of Raytheon with 33 years, a veteran of the U.S. Army and held an honorary life membership with Hickory Tree Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Reynolds Carrier; daughter, Vickie L. Carrier, Bluff City; son, Ricky Carrier, Bristol Tennessee; granddaughter, Brittany Carrier, Bluff City; sister, Helen Widner, Bluff City; and brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Donna Carrier, Bristol Tennessee. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Grubbs; and brother, Haskell Carrier.

Mrs. Cross, 95, a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County, Tenn., died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in Holston Valley Community Hospital.

Eugene E. Dempsey
Eugene E. "Gene" Dempsey, 93, died at 6:08 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at his home on Mountain View Road. He was a lifelong resident of Bluff City and was the son of the late George and Addie Arrants Dempsey. He was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Bluff City, where he served as a deacon and a member of the personnel committee until his illness. He was formerly a member of First Baptist Church in Bluff City for 68 years, serving many years as a deacon and property chairman. He was also church treasurer for many years.
He was a former employee of North American Rayon in Elizabethton, where he worked as supervisor for 45 years. He was a 59-year member of the Zollicoffer Free Masonry Lodge 444 and was an officer in the Morning View Cemetery Association. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ersie Lane Dempsey.
Survivors include wife, Laverne Odum Crosswhite Dempsey; one stepdaughter, Linda Graybeal of Goldsboro, N.C.; one stepson, Larry Crosswhite of Oakwood, Ga., sister, Ruth Brown of Bristol Tennessee; brother, Hal Dempsey of Baton Rouge, La.,; one step-granddaughter; two step-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church in Bluff City Saturday, Dec. 21, with Rev. Scott Watson officiating. The church will be open at 10 a.m. for those desiring to come early. FARMINGTON, Mich. - Gusta D. Edwards, 81, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002. She was formerly of Clintwood and was the beloved wife of 66 years of the late Clyde Edwards. She was also preceded in death by her son, Kenneth M. Edwards; and her grandson, Jason Starling.
She was the loving mother of son Jim Edwards and wife Cindy of Highland, Mich.; daughter Pamela Starling and husband Ken of Farmington; sister Lillie Murphy; grandchildren, Becki Seifert and husband Nick, and Maria Starling and David Starling; and great-grandchildren, Nick Siefert, Heather Hyatt and Nick Hyatt.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, in the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Castlen officiating.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Mrs. Mary Cale Heft, 78, passed away on Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at her home. She was the youngest child born to Fields M. Cale and Elizabeth Jennings Cale in Smyth County, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Rev. Fieldon Cale and Fletcher Cale; sisters, Major Elizabeth C. Flanagan and Alice C. Looney. Mrs. Heft was a lifelong member of Ebenezar Lutheran Church in Marion.
Survivors: husband, Edward Heft of the home; two sisters, Viola C. Clear, Saltville, and Eleanor C. Demarest, Baltimore; one brother, William J. Cale, Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank L. Ketron Jr.
LEBANON - Frank L. Ketron Jr., 76, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in the Russell County Medical Center.
Born July 24, 1926, in Lebanon, a son of the late Frank L. Ketron and Mary Catherine Gilmer Ketron, he was a retired building contractor. A 1951 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Va., he was the former owner of Russell Memorial Cemetery and founder and owner of Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon.
A veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army, he was a life member of the V.F.W. and American Legion in Bristol. He was a member of the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and finance committee. He was a member and supporter of the Golden Hokies Club at V.P.I.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Gilmer Ketron.
Surviving are his wife, Jacqeline O. Ketron; three sons, Frank L. (Chipper) Ketron III and wife Shelia, Lebanon, Dr. John O. Ketron, Charlotte, N.C., and Phillip G. Ketron and wife, Cindy, Lebanon; his grandchildren, Zachary Ketron, Wesley Ketron, Michael Rally and Christy Rally; a sister, Catherine Ketron Richard, Greensboro, N.C.; and a special friend, Loretta Thomas Jenks, Bristol Virginia.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, in the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Carter officiating. Entombment with military rites conducted by the Lebanon V.F.W. Post 9864 will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum in Ketron Memorial Gardens.
