RUSSELL COUNTY - The committal service and entombment for John Harold Nipper will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2002, at Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon with military rites by Lebanon VFW Post 9864. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Members of Lebanon VFW Post 9864 will serve as honorary pallbearers. Family and friends going to the mausoleum in procession should be at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Mr. Nipper, 74, of the Belfast community, went to be with the Lord and loved ones on Thursday, April 25, 2002, in Clinch Valley Medical Center.

Mary Elizabeth Repass
Mary Elizabeth Repass, 81, of 813 Georgia Ave., Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House. She was born in Marion, a daughter of the late Elbert and Maude Snyder Johnson, and had lived most of her life in Bristol. She was a graduate of Bristol Virginia High School and Virginia Intermont College and attended King College. She was the widow of James W. Repass.
She was an active member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was the nursery coordinator and the membership secretary. She was a pink lady at Bristol Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her son, David Repass of Bristol, Tenn.; a brother, E.J. Johnson and his wife, Winnie, of Bristol, Va.; a niece, Ann Kelly; and a nephew, Tom Johnson.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in Chapel of Memories at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Laura Rasor officiating, assisted by Rev. Fred Dearing and Rev. Jane Taylor. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. WISE - Estle Wheatley, 90, passed away Friday, April 26, 2002, at ClinchValley Medical Center, Richlands.
He was of the Baptist faith, a member of Hurricane Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 348, Wise, and a retired U.S. postal worker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Bevins Wheatley.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Gina Wheatley of Wise; one sister, Mabel Malick of Corbin, Ky,.; two nieces, Elizabeth Boyd of Dallas and Glenda Petrey of Corbin, Ky., and two sisters-in-law, Georgia Skeen of Big Stone Gap and Pat Robinson of Bristol, Va.

CHILHOWIE - Mary Lee Odell Webster Wheeless, 86, died Saturday, April 27, 2002, in Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion.
She was the widow of James E. Wheeless and a member of Chilhowie United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Edward and Jane D. Wheeless of Powhatan, Va., and Jerry Lee and Sylvia D. Wheeless of Chilhowie; one daughter, Phyllis W. Forrester of Marion; one sister, Callie C. Jones of High Point, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
There will be no services or visitation. Burial will be private.

Anna Michales Arnold, 91, of 1132 1/2 Virginia Ave., Bristol, Tenn., passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in Wellmont Hospice House. She was a native of Abingdon and a daughter of the late Henry H. and Emmline Wells Michales. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Arnold; a sister; a brother; and a grandchild. Survivors include daughters, Margaret Louise Morgan of Bristol Virginia and Janet Marie Jones of Bristol Tennessee; and sisters Lula Cecil and Pauline Berry, both of Bristol Tennessee, and Maude Yates of Abingdon. Clarence Bryan
Clarence "Bud" Henderson Bryan, 83, of 225 Oak St., Bristol, Va., died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Bryan was a native of Bristol. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater, where he received a Purple Heart. Mr. Bryan worked for 19 years at Enterprise Black Diamond and for many years at Home Furniture Co. He was a member of Fellowship Chapel.
Mr. Bryan is survived by his wife, Hazel Bryan; two daughters, Sybil Bryan of Bristol Virginia, and Kathy D. Wilson of Bristol Tennessee; three sons, Rex D. Bryan of Dunlap, Tenn., Paul D. Bryan of Ecorse, Mich., and Jeffrey D. Bryan of Greenville, N.C.; and one sister, Martha Foran of Indiana. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

CERES, Va. - Pearl Lucille Cox Cassell, 105, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Edgemont Center in Wytheville.
Mrs. Cassell was born Sept. 14, 1896, in Bland County to the late Lee and Susan Groseclose Cox. Shed was preceded in death by her husband, Davis Cassell. She graaduated from Ceres High School and taught school at Cave School. She was a member of Bethany Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Filmore and Marie Cassell of Ceres; one sister, Alberta Cox of Ceres; seven grandchildren and spouses, Harold and Linda Cassell of Salem, Iris and Maynard Gardner of Wytheville, Eugene Cassell of Wytheville, Arleene and Reggie White of Jacksonville, Fla., Arnold and Donna Cassell, Carlton and Betty Cassell, and Valerie and Jerrie Mutter, all of Ceres; 13 great-grandchildren, Tim Cassell, Tyron Cassell, Eric Gardner, Heather Gardner, Jason Gardner, Adam Gardner, Scott White, Ben White, Daniel White, Christopher Cassell, Shawn Cassell, Michael Cassell and Kimberly Cassell; and one great-great-granddaughter, Cayla Cassell.

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Mrs. Berenice Dobbins Coulthard died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, in Lake Charles. Mrs. Coulthard was born in Coeburn and had moved to Lake Charles in 1946. She was a member of First Christian Church in Lake Charles. She had taught school inVirginia and had also worked in the office of Mullers Department Store prior to her retirement.
Survivors include her husband, James Theo Coulthard of Lake Charles; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - John H. Hall, 64, of 1236 Eastbrook Drive died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, in Livingston, Mont.
Mr. Hall was a native of Washington County, Tenn., and had lived most of his life in Sullivan County.
He was a son of the late Thomas Foy Hall and Flora Hall Hopkins.
Mr. Hall was also preceded in death by one sister, Edna May Williams; one brother, Ray Hall; and one sister-in-law, June Snodgrass Hall.
He was a retired employee of the Tennessee Department of Revenue Sales Tax Collection Division after 30 years service.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Fleenor Hall; two brothers, Charles Hall of Piney Flats and Roy Hall and his wife, Helen, of Kingsport; one sister, Joann Sparks and her husband, T.J., of Johnson City; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Scott and Joann Fleenor of Bristol; sister-in-law Helen Fleenor of Hampton; sister-in-law, Phyllis Hall, Piney Flats; one aunt, Lena Leonard; nine nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and great-nephews; and many cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hall was also preceded in death by one sister, Edna May Williams; one brother, Ray Hall; and one sister-in-law, June Snodgrass Hall.

He was born in Dickenson County. He was the son of the late Elmer McCoy Sr.
He is survived by three daughters, Lisa McCoy of Castlewood, Kathy Phillips of Nora and Julie Thacker of Norton; one son, Greg McCoy of Nashville; mother, Pansy McCoy of Lubbock, Texas; three sisters, Violet, Sharon and Gloria, all of Lubbock; five grandchildren, Gina McCoy, Ronnie Phillips, Roy Thacker III, Adam McCoy and Kevin Horne; one great-grandchild, Paige Horne; and several nieces and nephews.

James M. Noonkester
James Madison "Jim" Noonkester, 82, of 213 Stafford St., Bristol, Tenn., passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2002. He was the son of the late J.M. and Bertha Wilson Noonkester, and was a lifelong resident of Bristol and Wallace, Va. He was a former worker at Aircraft and at Black Diamond and loved to hunt. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II in Germany and France.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Pearl Dowell Noonkester; daughter, Ann Jones and husband, Frank, of Bristol Virginia; sons Ernest Noonkester and wife, Betsy, of Bristol Tennessee and Bobby Noonkester and wife, Jeannie, of Bluff City; grandchildren Jamie, Amy and Max Noonkester of Bristol Virginia, and Casey Jones of Blacksburg; great-grandchild Keely Jones of Blacksburg; sisters Susie Bowers, Clifton Smelcer and Virginia Sprinkle and husband, Rev. Jack Sprinkle; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved beagles.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Sprinkle and Rev. Steve Gobble Sr. officiating. Jennings B. Noonkester
Jennings Bryan "J.B." Noonkester, 77, of 2216 Windsor Ave., Bristol, Tenn., passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2002.
Mr. Noonkester was the son of the late J.M. and Bertha Wilson Noonkester and was a lifelong resident of the Bristol and Wallace, Va., areas. He was a retired employee of Raytheon Corp. and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, where he served during World War II and the Korean conflict. Mr. Noonkester was a member of the Masonic Order York Lodge 12, Maple Grove, Va.
He was a member of Rosemont Presbyterian Church. where he also served as an elder.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Noonkester; one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Debbie Noonkester of Kingsport; three sisters, Susie Bowers, Clifton Smelcer and Virginia Sprinkle; two grandchildren, Adam and Amy Noonkester; and several nieces and nephews.

Eugene Phipps
Eugene "Jean" Phipps, 99, of Bristol Tennessee died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Cambridge House. She was born in Princeton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charles W. and Clementine Webb Ryan, and lived in Sweetwater, Tenn., before moving to Bristol more than 80 years ago. She was the oldest living member of Central Christian Church and was an avid supporter of Bristol Tennessee High School PTA and served at the concesison stand at the Stone Castle for many years. She was retired from Nickels Manufacturing Co. and was the widow of James H. Phipps. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, R.H. Davenport.
Survivors include three daughters, Hulah Davenport of Palmdale, Calif., Evelyn Poole and her husband, Lemuel, and Shirley Blaylock and her husband, Guy, all of Bristol Tennessee; a sister, Audrey Bolick and her husband, Donald, of Piney Flats; a brother-in-law, H.E. "Gene" Phipps and his wife, Amelia, of Bristol Tennessee; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 o'clock Monday in the Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Dr. Ross Dampier officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Gini Bingham
EMORY - Mrs. Gini Bingham, 78, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at the Wellmont Hospice House. She was born in St. Louis, Mo., and moved from Knoxville to Emory in 1953. She was a member of the Emory United Methodist Church and was widely recognized for her artistic work with clay. Gini was also known as a friend and mother to generations of students at Emory & Henry College. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Bingham; and a daughter, Kathy Bingham Morris.
She is survived by one sister, Hope Owen Caldwell of Jefferson City, Tenn.; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Emory United Methodist Church with Rev. Beverly Robinette officiating. A committal service will follow in the Holston Conference Cemetery. Following the committal, family and friends will gather at the fellowship hall in the church.

Virgil Eugene Hilliard, infant son of Steven Ray Sr. and Glenna Hilliard, of 1473 Kingmill Pike, Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord, Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
He is also survived by sister, Maggie Jane Hilliard; two brothers, Steven R. Hilliard Jr. and Matthew R. Hilliard; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Eliza Langley; paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Reba and Carl Worley; paternal grandparents, Virgil W. and Cora Hilliard; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, in the Mountain View Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Epperson officiating. Entombment will follow. The family will receive friends at the home of grandparents, Clarence and Eliza Langley, 1912 Kentucky Ave., Bristol, TN.

Elmer Ray Jones
Elmer Ray Jones, 81, Gate City Highway, Bristol Virginia, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House. He was a lifelong resident of Scott County and a son of the late John W. and Emma Spangler Jones. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received three Bronze Stars and numerous other medals. He retired from SmithKline/Beecham in 1988 after 43 years of employment.
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of 59 years, Olevia Belle Pullon Jones; a daughter, Brenda Cessna and her husband Dow of Lincoln, Neb.; one special grandson, Shannon Honaker of Richmond; one special granddaughter, Kendra Honaker of Bristol Virginia; four sisters, Dorothy Taylor and her husband Roy, Stella Cuddy and Louise Worley, all of Bristol Virginia, and Lillian Faulkner of Blountville; a brother, J.W. Jones and his wife Pauline of Blountville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Diane Jones; three sisters, Vada Gardner, Novella Crawford and Janette Cross; and a brother, Paul Jones. He will be greatly missed by his loving family; his many friends; and his special canine friend, "Pauly".
The funeral service was conducted at 8 o'clock Monday evening in the Paul Cook Memorial Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Bales and Dr. Charles McChesney officiating. The family received friends from 6 until 7:45 Monday evening at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The committal service and burial will be at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning in the Pullon Family Cemetery with military honors presented by Patton-Crosswhite V.F.W. Post 6975. Pallbearers will be Richard Jones, Bud Faulkner, Darrell Crawford, Bradford Kirby, Conley Cross, Art Welch, Darrell Gardner and Bruce Worley/Mike Worley. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Wilson, R.E. Worley, Fred Pullon, Scott Hensley, Rodney Pippin, Ray Taylor, Andrew Pullon, Scott Pullon, Fred Barr, James Worley, Grady Shelley, Tom Pullon, Marlin Pullon, Grady Hensley and Scott Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Wellmont Hospice, 280 Steele's Road, Bristol, TN 37620 or to a favorite charity. The family wishes to thank the Wellmont Hospital staff and Wellmont Hospice staff, Doctors Fred Greear, Chad Couch and Michael Rowell and special friends. Ernest Lambert
BEE, Va. - Ernest Lambert, 72, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, in Tazewell Community Hospital. A native of Buchanan County, he was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna Belle Taylor Lambert; one brother, Walter Lambert; and one sister, Evie Taylor.
Mr. Lambert is survived by neighbors and friends of Bee; and several nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Haysi Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Friends will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in the Duty Cemetery, Bee. Friends can call from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday.
