Rev. Kelly McCoy
ABINGDON - Rev. Kelly McCoy, 71, of 22197 Guilford Drive, formerly of Richlands, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at an Abingdon hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Bradshaw, W.Va., and was a son of the late Jessee James McCoy and Plina Jane Gregory McCoy, both Buchanan County natives.
He was a 1951 graduate of Grundy High School and was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War serving in the 1st Marine Corps Infantry Division as a machine gunner. He was a retired coal miner and was an independently ordained evangelist. He had also served pastoring in Tazewell, Buchanan and Russell Counties and was a member of the Harmony Ministerial Associaton in Russell County, Va. He had lived in the Richlands area most of his life ,moving to Abingdon one year ago.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Laura Nadine Hankins McCoy.
Survivors are: his daughter, Mrs. Lois Fincham of Abingdon; and his grandson, Mason Shane Fincham of Abingdon.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. James Simms and Rev. Doug Murray officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands at 6 p.m. Monday. Ruth Watts Parker
BLUFF CITY - Tiny Ruth Watts Parker, 74, went to be with the Lord May 23, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Paul and Nellie Deaton Rogers, in Fairview Community near Jonesborough. Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in the Bluff City area. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Parker was the widow of Charles I. Parker and was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Watts; a sister, Margie Stiger; and three brothers, Dewey, Billy and Roy "Jr." Rogers.
Survivors include three sons and spouses, Ernie and Robin Watts, Eddie and Elizabeth Watts and Charles and Carmen Parker; five daughters and spouses, JoAnn and Charles Owens, Barbara Richards, Patty Stipes, Charlotte and Jerry Hale and Alice and William Inman; a sister, Mary Dickson; a brother, Jessee Rogers; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 27, 2002, at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Cross officiating. Special music will be by Doug Williams. Committal services and burial will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the National Cemetery at Mountain Home, Tenn. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Monday at Weaver Funeral Home.
H. Wayne Parsons
MEADOWVIEW - Rev. H. Wayne Parsons, 58, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2002. He was a native of Smyth County and had lived most of his life in Washington County. He was the son of the late Homer and Juanita Parsons Doss; and the grandson of the late Rev. L.H. and Virginia Dye. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Wayne Parsons. He was a graduate of Abingdon High School and the Washington County Technical School.
He was founder and pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Meadowview. He was very active with local school, sports, church and missions activities. He was a lifetime member of Meadowview PTA, was current treasurer of the Lebanon Baptist Association and a member of the Virginia Baptist General Board in Richmond. He was an avid bicyclist.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Humphreys Parsons; one son, Steven Carroll Parsons of Meadowview; one brother, Gary Parsons of Richmond; four sisters, Mary Lee and husband D.C. Shuler of Sugar Grove, Va., Linda Parsons Danner of Marion, Millie Parsons Burke of Marion and Gail Parsons Parks of Marion; two grandchildren, Shelby Osborne Mardis and Jackie Osborne; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Pealer, Rev. Darrell Pickle and Rev. Richard Poe officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The committal service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Hills. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the church Wednesday by 10:15 a.m. for the procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the deacons of Fellowship Baptist Church, Herman Hucks, Paul Price, Ray Smith, Bill Anderson, Guy Dishman Jr. and Jim Watson and Roger Hagy. Honorary pallbearers will be C.W. BLUFF CITY - William "Bill" James Roberts, 47, of 564 Stanfield Road, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Roberts was a native of Georgia but had spent most of his life in the Bristol area. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Drema Roberts; his parents, Frank Roberts of Johnson City and his mother, Sally Trussel of Crossville, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Natasha Joyner of Bluff City; one step-grandson, Christopher Phipps II of Bluff City; two sisters, Donna Davis of Crossville and Jama Edwards; two brothers, Jody Roberts of Johnson City and Frank Roberts III of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

CLINTWOOD - DenverEllis Sturgill, 69, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2002, at the HolstonValley Medical Center, Kingsport. He was a retired equipment salesman and a member of the Skeet Rock Bible Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4301, Norton. He was also a member of the Kazim Temple. His father, Joseph Sturgill, precedes him in death.
Survivors include his mother, Thelma Hopkins, Clintwood; his wife, Ianthia Sturgill, Clintwood; one son, Mark Sturgill, Glen Allen, Va.; one daughter, Vera Vandeventer, Bristol, Va.; two stepsons, Roger Scott Sutherland and Mark Randall Sutherland, both of Clintwood; one stepdaughter, Veronica Kay Sutherland, Clintwood; two brothers, Larry Sturgill, Tallahassee, Fla., and John Sturgill, Wise; one sister, Freida Gehrmann, Newark, Del.; seven grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.

DANTE, Va. - Helen Josephine Sutherland, 76, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2002, at her residence. She lived most of her life in Dickenson County. She grew up in the Greek Orthodox religion and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Berry.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Pete Sutherland of Dante; one daughter, Connie Dilauro and her husband, John, of Roanoke; two brothers, Eddie Calo of Dickenson County and George Calo of Stanley, N.C.; one sister, Virginia Smith of Stanley, N.C.; two granddaughters, Ginny Echo Thompson of Roanoke and Misty Shanna Reynolds of Portland, Ore.; two great-grandchildren; Eleven Becenti and Amulet Atari, and one forthcoming, Jupiter; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, in the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel with clergymen Tam Hill and Chris Musick officiating. Burial will be in the Temple Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Castlewood. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer: Joe Kiser.

Larry James Bryant, 49, of 811 Russell St., Bristol, Va., passed away on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and was owner and operator of Bryant Construction and Demolition.

Marguerite Jewell (Judy) Eades Delaney, 75, of Bristol Tennessee, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, in the Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol Tennessee.
Mrs. Delaney was preceded in death by her husband, Donald H. Delaney. Mr. and Mrs. Delaney owned and operated Delaney Antiques in Bristol for many years.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Dianna Delaney Weaver and her husband Ernest M. Weaver; two grandsons, Matt Weaver and Chad Weaver; one brother, Rex Eades of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews.

William H. Elswick Jr.
KINGSPORT - William H. "Billy" Elswick Jr., 62, formerly of Tazewell, Va., passed away Wednesday morning, July 31, 2002, at the Select Specialty Hospital, Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol Tennessee, after an illness of several months. Born June 18, 1940, in Tazewell County, Va., he was a son of the late William H. Elswick Sr. and Gracie Herald Elswick. He was a 1958 graduate of Tazewell High School, received a BS degree in medical technology from East Tennessee State University and was member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He began his career in 1962 as a medical technologist in the laboratory of Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport. He has been employed at the hospital his entire career and since 1993 with the Medex Regional Laboratories at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital. He was a faithful laboratory employee for over 40 years. He was owner and manager of the Greenbriar Apartments in Bristol Virginia. He formerly attended the Pisgah United Methodist Church in Tazewell, Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Elswick; sister-in-law, Dreama Elswick; niece, Anita Elswick; and brother-in-law, William Dunford Jr.
Survivors include his sister, Nannie Pearl (Nan) Dunford of Richlands; one nephew, Jeffrey Vance Dunford of McLean, Va.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He will be missed by all his co-workers and friends at Medex Regional Laboratories.

Lucille L. Fentz
GORDONSVILLE, Tenn. - Mrs. Lucille Ruth Lewis Fentz, 85, of Basswood Drive, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville.
Mrs. Fentz was born in Bristol Virginia, the daughter of the late Alice Weidner and Thomas Stevens. Six brothers and sisters preceded her in death, John, Bill, Homer, Gordon, Claire and Ruby. She was married to Charles David Lewis and he preceded her in death in 1965, and she then married Ernest M. Fentz who preceded her in death in 1989. She was an employee of A & P Grocery Stores for 20 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and was a Past Matron.
Mrs. Fentz is survived by six children, Charles Wayne Lewis of Dallas, Bobby Joe Lewis of Indianapolis, Janice Bryant of Gordonsville, Martha Anders of Indianapolis, Sally Killinger of Indianapolis and Fredia Kay Rash of Indianapolis; brother, Bruce Stevens of Bristol Virginia; sister, Sally Hawn of Ocala, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamlet-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Tony Gonzalez officiating.
Interment will follow in Gunnings Cemetery.

CLEVELAND, Va. - Mary Sue Jackson, 67, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon. She was born in Russell County, Va., daughter of the late Grover and Bessie Combs Willis. Her husband, Jimmy D. Jackson; and a son, Jimmy D. Jackson Jr. also preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, Jeff Jackson of Maggie Valley, N.C.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Leslie Puckett of Castlewood, Ron and Betsy Gratton of Maggie Valley, N.C., Kathy Jackson of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Martha Jackson of Johnson City; a grandson, Jason Barton of the home; a brother, Larry Willis of Lebanon; a sister, Betty June Perry of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; three granddaughters; and one grandson.

ELVERSON, Pa. - M. Regina Jennelle, 55, of 2073 Little Conestoga Road, died on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in the Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, Pa.
Born in Konnarock, Va., she as the daughter of the late Myron M. and Myrtle Childress Jennelle.
She was a 1965 graduate of Holston High School in Damascus, was employed by Graco Childrens Products, Inc., of Elverson, for 27 years and retired in 1992.
She was a member of the Goodwill United Methodist Church, Elverson, and was active in the Appalachia Service Project.
Surviving are two brothers, Floyd C. Jennelle of Canton, Pa., and David W. Jennelle of Abingdon; two sisters, Lillian Unruh and Christine Cullop, both of Elverson, and several nieces and nephews.

COEBURN - Arthur Walton Meade, 74, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Norton.
Mr. Meade was a retired coal miner and merchant. He was a member of Coeburn Masonic Lodge 59 A.F. & A.M. for 50 years and the United Mine Workers of America Local 1256 for 47 years. Also an active member of Meade's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church of the Sandy Ridge community in Coeburn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Lee and Nellie Davenport Meade; a son, Eugene Walton Meade; two brothers, Jimmy Meade and Bobby Meade; and a sister, Madeline Asbury.

Mrs. Mobley, 61, of 117 Lily Ave., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton. Tenn.

Walter E. Patrick
SALTVILLE - Mr. Walter E. Patrick, 90, died July 31, 2002, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. He was born in Rich Valley, Va. Mr. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. and Kate Burkett Patrick; four brothers, Joe, James, Henry and John Carson Patrick; two sisters, Mary Emoline Whitley and Virginia P. McAllister. He was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church where he attended many, many years. He was retired from Olin Corp. and after retirement, he became a farmer.
Survivors: one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Alma Patrick; and two sisters, Mrs. Lee (Louise) Worley and Mrs. John (Eva) Tolley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Riverside United Methodist Church with Rev. Ernest Yeatts officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Patrick will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, Aug. 2, 2002. Pallbearers will be great-nephews, Bryne Worley, Marc Worley, Patrick Worley, Steve Worley, George Allen Whitley and Robert Worley. Honorary pallbearers will be Roby Hayden, Shell Goodman, Louie Stevenson, Johnny Orr, David Stevenson, Gene Davidson and Rueben Gillespie. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church.
