Billy J. Cornett
APPALACHIA - Billy J. Cornett, 71, passed away Saturday, July 27, at his residence in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was born in Osaka, Va., as one of 12 children. He was a member of the Appalachia United Methodist Church. He was one of 12 children to graduate from Appalachia High School and he also graduated from the University of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Dewey Cornett Sr. and Mabel Mays Cornett; four brothers, Wilson Dewey (Dub) Cornett, Karl Cornett, Larry Cornett and Jerry Cornett; and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Alcorn.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force having achieved the rank of chief master sergeant, a distinction reserved for one percent of the entire enlisted force. He spent 25 years of his 32 years of service overseas, serving in England, the Philippines, Germany, Canada, Turkey and Okinawa. After retirement he spent 10 years as a rural carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Myrtle Beach.
Survivors: wife of 46 years, Madeline Addington Cornett, Myrtle Beach; four daughters and three sons-in-law Kim and Chaplain Lt. Col. (sel) Scott Henry, U.S. Air Force, F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming, Chris and Maj. Don Hamelin, U.S. Air Force, Hickam AFB, Hawaii, Kelli and Dennis Barker, Conway, S.C., and Karen Cornett, Jersey City, N.J.; son and fiancee, Kurt Cornett and Juli Baker, Charleston, S.C.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Helen Cornett, Miami, Jimmy and Jana Cornett, Austin, Texas, Tim and Charlie Cornett, Jacksonville, Fla., and Richard (Dickie) and Patti Cornett, Big Stone Gap, Va.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye Alcorn, Asheville, N.C., Kay and David Begley, Hazard, Ky., and Shirley Cornett, Appalachia; sisters-in-law, Betty Cornett, Chris Cornett, Betty Lou Cornett Rivers and Brenda Cornett; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the Appalachia United Methodist Church with the Chaplain Scott Henry officiating. Entombment will follow in the Glencoe Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Charles E. Glover
MEADOWVIEW - Mr. Charles Eugene "Gene" Glover, 84, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bristol Tennessee, and had lived most of his life in Washington County, Va. He was the son of the late Adam C. and Margaret S. Glover Sr. He was the former owner of Glover Cleaners, a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Etta G. Glover; one son, Alan "Tom" Glover of Meadowview; one daughter, Donna G. Rector and husband, Don, of Wytheville; two brothers, James Glover of Abingdon and A.C. Glover Jr. of Fredericksburg, Va.; four sisters, Helen Branco and Ruth Jordan, both of Bristol, Mary March of Michigan, and Wayne White of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Tracy Smythers Pauley and Don B. "Donnie" Rector Jr., both of Wytheville; and two great-grandchildren, Victoria Lea Smythers and Stephen Pauley, both of Wytheville.
A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Con Henley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Family and friends are to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m.

Alice Panzy Haga
Alice Panzy (Mammaw) Haga, 85, of 503 East Valley Drive, died Sunday, July 28, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born to the late Isaac and Laura McGuire Fleenor in Washington County, Va., she was a retired employee of North Electric. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Maynard Fleenor; and three sisters, Adith Large, Gladys Black and Elva Statzer.
Survivors include her husband, Haynes William Haga; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Lisa Haga of Bristol Tennessee; one daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Alan Debusk of Meadowview; her sister, Mary G. Rose of Bristol Virginia; four grandchildren, Betsy Haga Graves, Becky Haga, Brandy Debusk Surber and Britt Debusk; two step-grandchildren, Shannon Wise Carr, Brandy Wise Slagle; two step-great-grandchildren Lakota Wise and Tyler Carr; and a special friend, Louise DeBusk.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, in Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. George R. Blaylock officiating. Pallbearers will be Tracey Graves, Jason Surber, Guy Bowers, Roger Bowers, Chris Bear and T.C. Bear.

Iris Lee Nunley
LEBANON - Mrs. Iris Lee Nunley, 65, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2002, at her home. Born Jan. 30, 1937, in Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Ruby Spencer Coleman. She was a member of the Shady Grove Church in Abingdon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford Blankenship; her second husband, Rev. John Nunley Jr.; and one brother, Bobby Coleman.
Survivors include three sons, Darrell Blankenship and Danny Blankenship, both of Rowe, Va., and Dwight Blankenship and his wife Rita of Lebanon; one daughter, Deborah Mendez of Belleville, Mich.; one brother, Jan Coleman of Wichita Falls, Texas; one sister, Emma Fletcher of Warren, Mich.; special friend, Lucille Combs of Abingdon; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel in Honaker with Rev. Fred Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va.

ABINGDON - The funeral service for Billy J. Price will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2002, in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Merritt officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Price, 45, was called home by the angels to meet Jesus and be reunited with his mother, father and sister on July 26, 2002.

J.E. Fey Rogers
James Edwin Fey Rogers, 88, of Bristol Tennessee, co-founder and former co-owner of WCYB Radio and WCYB-TV, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born July 11, 1914, in Buchanan, Botetourt County, Va., a son of the late Charles Eugene and Verna K. Rogers, and had lived in Bristol since 1937. He was educated at the University of Richmond and Bridgewater College.
He began his career in broadcasting in 1933 in Roanoke and served as program director at WOPI Radio in Bristol from 1937-1946. He became co-founder and co-owner of WCYB Radio in Bristol in 1946 and co-founder and co-owner of WCYB-TV in 1956. He sold both stations in 1970 and retired in 1978.
The Tri-City Metro Advertising Federation presented him with the "Silver Medal Award" from the American Advertising Federation "in recognition of outstanding contributions to advertising and active participation in furthering the industry's standards, creative excellence and responsbility in areas of social concern." He had served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce, the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, Bristol Family YMCA, Country Club of Bristol and First Colony Home Owners Association. He was a charter member and past president of the Bristol Jaycees, past president of the Bristol Kiwanis Club, past president of the First Colony Home Owners Association, a member of the Producers Guild of the Paramount Center for the Arts, the Steering Committee of Glanalbyn Music Festival and State Street Untied Methodist Church.
Mr. Rogers had a life long interest in music. He studied violin at Hollins College and with Professor Holroyd of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and studied voice with Ann Steward and Dr. Nelson T. Hoffman of Bridgewater College. He appeared on a regular radio program with his parents in Roanoke. He taught voice and directed the chorus at Troutville Virginia High School. He directed several church choirs including First Church of the United Brethren in Harrisonburg, Va., and Central Presbyterian Church in Bristol. He organized and sang in the male quartet of the Kiwanis Club of Bristol and in the Bristol Men's Chorus.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary T. Law Rogers, formerly of Fordwisk, Augusta County, Va.; three children, Libby R. Owen, wife of Dr. Roy C. Owen Jr. of Bristol Tennessee; James E. Rogers of Charlotte, N.C., and Dr. William E. Rogers and his wife Bonnie of Knoxville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three special grandchildren; and three special great--grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Heritage Chapel of Memories at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Fred Dearing officiating. Entombment will follow. Nina M. Tate
Nina Katherine Maines Tate, 96, of 100 Moore St., Leisure Park Towers, went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House. Mrs. Tate was born Feb. 1, 1906, in Bristol Virginia, a daughter of the late G.W. and Josephine Large Maines, and has made her home in the Bristol area most of her life. She was the widow of Robert F. Tate and was preceded in death by two children, Virginia Gobble and Jimmy Tate. Mrs. Tate was a homemaker and a member of North Bristol Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children and spouses, Doris Anne Henry, Betty J. Noonkester, Janice and Junior Hobbs, Marvin and Ann Tate, Sharon Stoots and Patricia and Johnny Burton; 10 grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2002, in the Weaver Funeral Chapel with Dr. Austin Cook and Dr. Malcolm Stuart officiating. He was a peacetime veteran serving in the U.S. Army and attended the Coeburn High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Grace Vance. Surviving are two sons, Jonathan C. Vance and Jason Andrew Vance, both of Coeburn; six brothers, Thomas Vance of Norton, Rex Vance of Gray, Tenn., David Vance of Wise, Sam Vance and James Mike Vance, both of Coeburn, and Jerry Vance of Wise; two sisters, Dorothy Meade of St. Paul and Virginia Bolling of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews. MANASSAS, Va. - David Ware, 63, died on Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Fairfax Hospital.
Mr. Ware was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm E. Ware and Martha Ware Tyree; and his brother, Joe Lee Ware. He is survived by his wife, Dellen Ware of Manassas; his daughter, Karen W. (and Russell) Baker of Manassas; his brother, Billy (and Ellen) Ware of Fairfield, Va.; and granddaugther, Chelsea D. Baker of Manassas.

Emma A. Bailey
Mrs. Emma Adell Bailey, 96, passed away Monday, July 15, 2002. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va. She was of the Presbyterian faith. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence O. Bailey; a son, Ralph W. Bailey; and her parents, George W. and Frances Roberts.
She is survived by: two daughters, Mildred L. Bailey and Frances Flo Bailey, both of Bristol Virginia; two sisters, Josie Sullins and Mrs. William Howard (Mary Belle) Jackson, both of Bristol Virginia; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at 2:30 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Kyle Barr officiating. Burial will follow in the Knollkreg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday.

Shirley Ann Carter
Mrs. Shirley Ann Carter, 59, of 925 Russell St., Bristol, Va., died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at her residence. She was a native of Bristol, a member of the Household of Faith Church, where she served as Mother of the Church and a very faithful and loyal member. She was an employee of Raytheon for over 18 years.
Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Blevins Sr.; two brothers, Larry and John Blevins Jr.; and one grandchild, Mekinzie Carter.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Paul E. Carter of the home; two daughters, Cheryl Carter of Bristol Virginia and Rhonda Bell and her husband, Paul Bell, of Bristol Tennessee; three sons, Paul Carter Jr. and his wife Sahim Carter of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Robert and John Carter, both of Bristol Virginia; two sisters, Cookie Harris and her husband Nathan Harris of Kingsport, and Thelma Whitefield of Bristol Virginia; two grandchildren, Christopher Carter and Nicholas Bell; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, from the Harris Anderson A.M.E. Zion Church with the following ministers serving: Rev. Mrs. Jeanette Clark, Rev. Mrs. Jacqueline Nophlin, Elder Michael Brown, Evangelist Valerie Maxwell, Rev. Kenneth Carter and Bishop Edward Osborne.

TAZEWELL, Va. - Juanita Crockett Colley, 78, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Tazewell Community Hospital. Born June 15, 1924, in Iaeger, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Rosa Gross Crockett. She was a member of the former Litz Presbyterian Church at North Tazewell, Va., and the Tazewell Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Robert Colley; and three sisters, Marjorie Hankins, Helen Head and Betty Ann Adkins.
Survivors include four sons, David White and wife, Terri, of Roanoke, Bob Colley and wife, Wilma, Ronald Colley and wife, Mary Bowen, and Paul Colley and special friend, Aletha Kidd, all of Tazewell; one sister, Mae Price of Abbs Valley, Va.; one brother, Raymond Crockett and wife, Louise, of Amonate, Va.; five grandchildren; and three very special caregivers, Linda Shelton, Patricia Nunley and Maisie Parsons.

KINGSPORT - Joshua Chase Ferguson, three-month-old twin son of Lynn and Stacey Ferguson, went to be with his Lord Sunday, July 14, 2002, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Richard Ferguson.

ANNANDALE, Va. - On Saturday, July 13, 2002, Janet L. Grace died. She was the beloved wife to Frank H. Grace Jr.; mother of Frank H. Grace III of Centreville, Va, Kimberly G. Briele of New Bern, N.C., and Shannan E. Grace of Owens Mill, Md. She is also survived by grandchildren, Frank H. Grace IV, Nicholas A. Grace and Matthew L. Grace, children of Frank and Jennifer Grace; Tanner B. Briele and Tatum L. Briele, children of Kimberly and Jerry Briele; and a brother, William G. Houck of Fairfax, Va. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at noon at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 8617 Little River Turnpike, Annandale. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery private.
Lawrence C. Harrison
HONAKER - Rev. Lawrence C. Harrison, 90, of 338 Dogwood St., passed away Sunday, July 14, 2002, in a Lebanon hospital. Born June 10, 1912, in Finney, Va., he was a son of the late Walter and Betty Thompson Harrison. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Honaker and was a Masonic Lodge member. He had served as a minister for over 50 years. He had been a pastor at Caroline County Baptist Church, Rocky Gap Baptist Church, Enon Baptist Church at Chester, Va., Bluewell Baptist Church, Narrows First Baptist Church, Colfax Baptist Church at Kernersville, N.C., Independence First Baptist Church, MountainView Baptist Church at Meadowview, Oak Grove Baptist Church at Lebanon and First Baptist Church at Honaker. He had also served as assistant pastor at Swords Creek Community Church. He conducted his final sermon at the age of 87.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Fuller Harrison; one brother, Lloyd Harrison; and one sister, Myrtle Carter.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and William Kreowski of Massanutten, Va., and Anita and Charles Brammer of Huddleston,Va.; five grandchildren, Lisa Bailey, Brian Kreowski, Colleen Carrier, Emily Chandler and Heather Brammer; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Randolph Harrison of Honaker; and one sister, Ava Long of Roanoke.
A Celebration of Christian Life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Chris Musick and Brother Leslie Ritchie officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be William Harrison, Eddie Harrison, Mike Keith, James Carter, Greg Johnson, Harold Johnson, Sam Johnson and Jimmy Taylor.
The New Lebanon Baptist Association will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Ida Bell Kennedy
JOLO, W.Va. - Mrs. Ida Bell Kennedy, 94, of the Compton Mountain section passed away Monday, July 15, 2002, in a Richlands hospital following a long illness. Born in McDowell County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Gus and Melvinia Mullins Wimmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Kennedy; one son, James R. Kennedy; one daughter, Irene Cantrell; seven brothers, Ellis Wimmer, Wallace Wimmer, Columbus Wimmer, Homer Wimmer, Witcher Wimmer, Oscar Wimmer and Thomas Wimmer; and one sister, Eliza Wimmer Hagerman.
Mrs. Kennedy was a member of the Maple Grove Church of Christ for 75 years.
Mrs. Kennedy is survived by four sons, John Kennedy of Jolo, Harold Kennedy of Paintlick, Va., Ernest Kennedy of Grundy and Hobert Kennedy of Grundy; three daughters, Mrs. Sarah Stacy of Partlow, Va., Mrs. Melvinia McCoy of Pilgrims Knob, Va., and Mrs. Ruth Rife of Pilgrims Knob; two brothers, Victor Wimmer of Blacksburg, Va., and Hobert Wimmer of Bradshaw, W.Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Gracie Cooper of Greenville, S.C., and Mrs. Ruby Harness of Atlanta; 31 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and a host of friends and neighbors also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002, in the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, Va., with Preachers Burb Rife, Mike Trent and Bob Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodman Cemetery at the Compton Mountain section of Jolo. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will receive friends at the Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

Cynthia Ann McIntyre
GRAPEVINE, W.Va. - Cynthia Ann "Mother-Sis" McIntyre, 81, passed away at her residence Sunday, July 14, 2002, following a long illness.
Born Aug. 15, 1920, in Marytown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Mose and Mary Ellen Myers. Mrs. McIntyre was a homemaker, an in-home provider and a member of the Church of the Living God, Garland, W.Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Dewey McIntyre; a son, Lemont (Pete) McIntyre; sister, Leona Holland; two brothers, John and Howard Myers; and a grandson, Anthony "Tony" Shane Addair.
Her survivors include: two sons, Shane McIntyre and wife, Pamela, of Grapevine, and James Dewey McIntyre Jr. and wife, Fayetta, of Abingdon; two daughters, Lila Mullins and Sherry Addair, both of the home; two brothers, Franklin Myers and James "Bob" Myers, both of Grapevine; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two special friends, Nancy Privit of Princeton, W.Va., and Susan Lipper of New York; and Ruth Duff, for whom she provided care for the past 14 years.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at 1 o'clock from the Church of the Living God, Garland, W.Va. Pastor Kenny Green and Sister Johnnie Mae Stanley will officiate. Assistance will be given by Vicki Dawson. Burial will follow in the Myers Cemetery, Grapevine. Pallbearers will be David Price, Anthony Price, Roger Matney, Jason Maggard, Randy Whittaker and Raymond Rowe.
Friends may call at the Church of the Living God for visitation Tuesday, July 16, 2002, after 6 p.m. An evening wake service will be held at 7 p.m.
