Arville Collins
CEDAR BLUFF - Rev. Arville Collins, 82, went to be with Jesus, Friday afternoon, July 19, 2002, at home. Born at Dante, he was a son of the late Charlie and Mary Roten Collins. He was a resident of Buchanan County several years and was a minister of the gospel for 74 years, serving Big Rock Pentecostal Church for 42 years with a radio broadcast ministry on radio station WNRG.
He served as president and vice-president of the Buchanan County Ministerial Association and was a nominee for the Buchanan County Hall of Fame.
Rev. Collins' gift from God was to establish new churches and over the span of 74 years he founded 50 churches and they all continue to flourish today. Thousands of souls have been won to Christ through his ministry.
At the age of 81, Preacher Collins resigned as pastor at Big Rock Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Collins of Cedar Bluff; one daughter, Diann Collins of Cedar Bluff; two grandchildren, Veronica McGlothlin of Cedar Bluff and Eric Collins of Memphis; three great-grandchildren, Elyssia Diann Reedy, Seth Hunter Collins and Lauren Rose McGlothlin; three sisters, Ollie Mannas of Coeburn, Thelma Auditore of Richmond and Violet Collins of New York City; and three brothers, Mack Collins of Cleveland, Va., Fred Collins of Lebanon and Pat Collins of Richmond.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dessel Mann and Lily Collins; and two brothers, Rufus and Dan Collins.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 22, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Keen officiating with entombment to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill.
Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Sunday evening at 6 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. conducted by Rev. Roger Williams and others.
Active pallbearers will be: Rev. Roger Williams, Rev. Tim Collins, Rev. Barry Absher, Brad Hurley, Rondal Belcher and Rev. Johnny Kibbey.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Rev. Paul Baldwin, Basil Davis, Rev. Leslie Wilson, Clinton Lester, Rev. Bill Marcum, Rev. Victor Casey and Rev. Paul Mays.
Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of all arrangements.

Buster Dingus
LEBANON - A graveside service for Buster Dingus will be held Sunday, July 21, at 2 p.m. at Sabra Chapel Church Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1 p.m. Pallbearers will be Mike Robinette, Matthew Robinette, Caleb Robinette, Ryan Robinette, Richard Thayer, Hugh Morefield and Fayne Farmer.
Honorary pallbearers will be all other nephews.
Mr. Dingus, 72, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon.

Mamie Keller Hale
WISE - Mamie Keller Hale, 90, passed away Friday, July 20, 2002, at Appalachian Christian Village, Johnson City.
She was a retired school teacher and former employee of Wise County School System, where she taught for several years. She was a member of Wise Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and had served as the church membership secretary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Hale.
Surviving are one son, Robert J. (Bob) Hale and wife, Martha, of Jonesborough, Tenn.; and two grandsons, William David Hale of Gray, Tenn., and Michael Allen Hale of Knoxville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wise Trinity United Methodist Church, Wise, with Rev. Chris Stanfield officiating. Burial will follow in Wise Cemetery, Wise. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise.
Mrs. Hale will be taken to the church one hour before the time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Allen Hendrickson
KINGSPORT - James Allen Hendrickson, 63, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at his residence.
A lifelong resident of Sullivan County, he served from 1956 to 1960 with the U.S. Air Force. He was a graduate of ETSU and received a master's degree from Ole Miss. Mr. Hendrickson was asssitant principal at Blountville Middle School before becoming principal of Rock Springs Elementary School. He worked for the Sullivan County School System for 30 years, retiring in 1996.
He served on Bays Mountain Park Commission, 911 Emergency Board and the Sullivan County Industrial Board. He was a life member of the Sullivan County Rescue Squad, life member of the Parent Teachers Association and a county commissioner for 10 years. He was a member of TASSA, NEA, TEA, SCEA and ETEA.
His parents, John and Georgia Hendrickson; and brother, Mark Douglas Hendrickson, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Laurleen Hendrickson of the home; one daughter, Jill Allyn Cunningham of Kingsport; stepdaughter, Sherry Light of Knoxville; stepson, Brian Light and wife, Brooke, of Kingsport; and one sister, Toni Smith and husband, Lonnie, of Kingsport.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Colonial Heights Christian Church.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday at Colonial Heights Christian Church with Richard Carpenter, minister, and Pastor Alan Buckles officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be Don Smith, Charlie Cole, Harold Martin, John McLellan, Jud Brownwell, Jim Thetford, Roger Marshall and Jim Droke.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Daniel Dickerson, Dr. Thomas Brock, Dr. Erwin Hire, Dr. Chip Helms, Gene Herron,Vance Pope, Starling Lawson, members that served with Allen from the Sullivan County Commission, Sullivan County Rescue Squad, administrators, teachers and staff personnel that he worked with over the past 30 years with the Sullivan County School System, his good friends and supporters from Rock Springs Elementary School, and Christian brothers and sisters at Colonial Heights Christian Church and Springdale Baptist Church.

John Peters Jr.
DUNGANNON - John Ray Peters Jr., 56, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.
He was born in Dungannon, a son of the late John Ray Peters Sr. He was a miner and farmer, and he operated Chestnut Ridge Produce. He attended St. Mark's Episcopal Church in St. Paul.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta Peters; mother, Frankie Wolfe Peters; one sister, Cora Lea Brickey and husband, Michael Sr., all of Dungannon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 21, 2002, at 7:30 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, with Rev. Frances McCoy officiating. Committal service will be Monday, July 22, 2002, at 11 a.m. in Fraley/Sargent/Peters Cemetery in Dungannon.The family will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the Cemetery, leaving at 10:15 a.m. Monday. Pallbearers will be Sammy Brickey, Roger Darnell, Michael L. Brickey Jr., Dale Hall, Michael D. Luttrell, Turner Ashby Gilmer III, Ronnie Brickey and Greg Dockery. Honorary pallbearers will be Grover Meade Jr., John Fraley, Glen Collins, Lester Collins, Frank Compton, Kay Pierson and Harvey Sandidge Jr.

Rhoda E. Rhymer
Rhoda Estel Rhymer, 79, of 971 Sugar Hollow Road, Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House. She was born in Foscoe, N.C., the daughter of the late Walter I. and Oda Taylor Storie. She was a retired inspector at Univac and had attended Victory Baptist Church and West Hills Baptist Church. She was the widow of Joe Albert Rhymer.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Robert Taylor of Bristol Tennessee; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Joan Rhymer of Clinton, S.C.; sisters Chloe Welch of Emmitsburg, Md., and Dare Rhymer and Georgia Rhymer, both of Bristol Tennessee; special friends, Fay and Albert Snead and Darryl and Elissa Green; special niece, Donna Rogers; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers Paul Storie and Clyde Storie.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Hall officiating, assisted by Dr. Austin Cook. Committal services will follow at Glenwood Mausoleum. Honorary pallbearers include Earl Smithson, Darryl Morton, Charles "Scritch" Whitaker and Darryl Green. Jerry Wayne Selfe
ABINGDON - Mr. Jerry Wayne Selfe, 60, of 337 Morningside Lane died Friday, July 19, 2002, at home after a long illness.
Mr. Selfe was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was of the Baptist faith. He was retired from Pioneer Chevrolet, Abingdon.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bessie Fleenor Selfe; brothers Claude Selfe and John Ed Selfe; sisters Betty Combs, Mary Raines, Cleo Urbanczyk, Ethel Smeltzer, Stella Dixon and Ora Roe.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; son, Tim and his wife, Tracie; one grandson, Connor; one granddaughter, Mollie; brothers Jack Selfe of Mountain City and Earl Selfe of Kingsport; and a sister, Nell Lilly of Bristol Virginia.
The funeral service will be condcuted Sunday, July 21, 2002, at 6 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating.
Nephews and employees of Pioneer Chevrolet will be honorary pallbearers.
Committal graveside services will be conducted Monday, July 22, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. in Knollkreg Memorial Park. Those attending the service Monday may assemble at the cemetery.

Mr. Shelley, 73, of Bristol Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord and his late wife, Stella Carter Shelley, Thursday, July 18, 2002, from Wellmont Hospice House.

Ruth Shuler
APPALACHIA - Ruth Shuler, 75, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at home. Born to the late James and Flora Stidham, she was the widow of the late Rev. Steve Shuler. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Johnny Stidham and Charlie Stidham; and five sisters, Mary Shuler, Lizzie Anderson, Nora Williams, Bonnie Evans and Emily Lawson.
Surviving are three daughters, Margaret Burke and her husband, N.R., of Exeter, Barbara Wagner and her husband, Kenny, of Exeter, and Betty Bates of Haysi; son, William "Bill" Shuler and his wife, Sue, of Exeter; two sisters, Lillie Calhoun and Virginia Hazelwood; one brother, J.C. Stidham; a granddaughter, Pam Fawbush; five grandsons, Jeff Burke, William Wagner, Douglas Barker, Steve Barker and Todd Barker; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, with Rev. William Wagner II officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.

Louise W. Snead
ABINGDON - The funeral service for Louise Worley Snead will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Farris Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be her pastor, Dewey Williams, assistant pastor, Sam Haynes, and her former pastor, Charles E. Blevins. Burial will follow in Elizabeth Cemetery, Saltville. Active pallbearers will be Tony Clapp, Merle Worley, Sam Hambrick, Dean Rhea, Dustin Rhea, Rusty Rhea, Louis Stephenson and Bill Sanders. Honorary pallbearers include John R. Snead, David Schwartz, Oscar Hess, Johnny Worley, Bill Joe Doane, Herb Doane, Larry Chapman, Dr. Jim Stanley, Joe Stanley and Dr. Bernard Grunstra.
Mrs. Snead, 81, died of congestive heart failure Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

Ally Lynn Testerman, 3, of 12622 Chesterfield Lane, Bristol, Va., passed away July 20, 2002, at Brenners Childrens Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Among survivors are: parents, Alan and Robin Testerman; brother Carson Testerman; and grandparents Sue and Jay Testerman and Robert and Linda Bringman.

Alice L. Vermillion
MEADOWVIEW - Mrs. Alice Louellen Vermillion, 80, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Cambridge House in Bristol. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and attended Blackwell Chapel Union Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Garland Vermillion, and one daughter, Carol Jane Vermillion.
She is survived by one daughter, Katherine Ann Vermillion of Meadowview; two sons, Jimmy Wayne Vermillion of Lebanon and Sherman Lee Vermillion of Abingdon; one granddaughter, Patti Morrison; and two great-granddaughters, Kristen and Kelsey Morrison of Fredricksburg, Va.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bill Rowe officiating.
Burial will follow in Mountain View Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m.

John William Allison Jr.
SALTVILLE - Mr. John William Allison Jr., age 77, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Trigg and Charles Allison; and two sisters, Arvilla Swartz and Clemie Surber.
Survivors: one brother, Easley Allison, Saltville; three sisters, Mae Pickle, Saltville and Shelby Jean Marshall and Freda Ames, Cleveland, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Henderson Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Mumpower and Rev. Bob Briggs officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pine Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home just prior to the funeral service. D.R. Allen Amburgey
NORTON - Charles Allen Amburgey, 68, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, in Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. Born March 30, 1934, in Norton, a son of the late Gilbert Newton and Arizona Donnells Amburgey. He was a member of West Norton Baptist Church, where he had served as a past Sunday School teacher. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Norton V.F.W. Post 4301. He was founder of Color King, Inc., in Norton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a wife, Phyllis J. Amburgey; brothers, Alfred J. and Albert "Sammy" Amburgey; a sister, Shirley A. Wells; and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Meade.
He is survived by: wife, Petrina Amburgey; sons and daughters-in-law, Gilbert and Leda Amburgey, Wise and Robert and Rhonda Amburgey, Norton; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Jeff Lawson, Coeburn; stepson and his wife, Scott and Carol Marshall, Wise; stepson, Corey Marshall, U.S. Navy, Jacksonville, Fla.; stepdaughters and their husbands, Stacey and Tim Mac Mullins, Pound and Tara and Capt. Dwayne Coffey, U.S. Army, Ft. Drum, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Amber, Ryan, Alison, Nick, Devan and Cade; two great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Isaac; three special sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Robin Sturgill officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens where military graveside rites will be conducted by Norton VFW Post 4301 and Wise DAV Chapter 56. Gary Curtis Cullop
ABINGDON - Gary Curtis Cullop, age 56, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a life long resident of Washington County and was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Cullop.
He is survived by his mother, Hattie Mae Cullop of Abingdon; one son, James C. Cullop, Granite Falls, N.C.; three daughters, Angela C. Miller, Hickory, N.C., Melisa C. Mullinax, Hudson, N.C., and Kathy C. Vance, Lenoir, N.C.; four brothers, Bud Cullop, Mountain City, Tenn., Richard Cullop, Mendota, Va., Eddie Cullop, Abingdon and Robert (Bob) Cullop, Elizabethton, Tenn.; one sister, Lila Cook, Abingdon; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2002, at Farris Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Old Glade Cemetery.

Elizabeth Sue Davis
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Elizabeth Sue Davis, 52, of White Sands Road, formerly of St. Albans, W.Va., died suddenly Sunday, July 7,. 2002, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born in Baileysville, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late David Wells McNurlen and Mary Samantha Stewart McNurlen. She was an employee of Dollar General Store in Greeneville and for 24 years was an employee of The Southern Kitchen in Kanawha City, W.Va.
Surviving are her husband, Clarence Davis; daughter, Garnet Blake of Greeneville; three sons, Rick Walker, Inverness, Fla., Cory Walker, Mansfield, Ohio, and Dan Walker of Avon, Ind.; stepdaughters, Angie and Kim, both of Tennessee, and Teresa of South Carolina; brother, James "Rooster" McNurlen of Ridgeview, W.Va.; sisters, Mary Jane McNurlen and Oleta McNurlen, of St. Albans; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday in West Virginia.
Snodgrass Funeral Home in South Charleston, W.Va.,. and Rose Hill Funeral Home, Greeneville, are in charge.

Juanita G. Greer
Juanita Sue Goodman Greer, age 66, of 412 Madison St., Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born June 8, 1936, in Benhams, Va., a daughter of the late James and Etta Goodman. Mrs. Greer was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and the widow of William T. "Bill" Greer. She was a homemaker, and was well-known for her quilting and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, David Greer and wife Carol, Lawrence Greer and wife Rene and Robert "Rob" Bishop and wife Bobbie Jo; three sisters, Eugenia Booher, Bernice Cook and Linda Jacobs; one brother, James E. Goodman Jr.; nine grandchildren, David Greer, Kayren Greer, Tyler Greer, Travis Kudela, Hollie Kudela, Gage Overbay, Summer McCoy, Samantha McCoy and Cash McCoy; one great-granddaughter, Autumn; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2002, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Burnette officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
