MEADOWVIEW - A funeral service for Roberta Terry Eastridge will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at 3 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Leonard Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Billy E. Feathers
BLOUNTVILLE - Billy E. Feathers, 62, went to be with his Lord, family and friends Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at the Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
Billy was born June 22, 1940, in Bristol Tennessee and was a son of the late Garland and Helen (Shipley) Feathers. He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church. He was very actively retired from the Tennessee Eastman Company where he worked as a chemical operator. Billy was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a sincere and kind person who made friends very easily, put people at ease and gave a smile to everyone he met. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Lee Feathers.
Billy is survived by his loving family: his wife of 42 years, Betty Barger Feathers of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Scott Mendenhall of Kingsport; two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Tina Feathers and Tony and Kim Feathers, all of Kingsport; a special grandson, Michael Feathers; four special step-grandchildren, Angel and Joshua Gibson and Logan and Connor Couch; a special granddaughter that will make her debut in April, Meredith Feathers; an aunt and uncle, Colleen and Jim Pierce; a great-aunt and great-uncle, Rader and Carlene Mahoney; and a cousin, Ferrell Shipley.
Calling hours will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jason McIntosh officiating. Fannie Fletcher
DANTE - Fannie Fletcher, 80, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Brian Center Health and Rehab Center. She was a native of Dickenson County but she had lived in Hiltons, Va., for 21 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Fletcher, and her parents, Milton and Melissa French. She was also preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters; one son, Covy French; and one grandson.
She is survived by one daughter, Marie Fritz of Gate City and is also survived by eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, in the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vernon Rose officiating. Burial will be in the Caney Fork Church Cemetery, Ramsy Ridge section of McClure, Va.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Jerry K. Fullen
Jerry Kenneth Fullen, 57, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at the Grace Healthcare Center. He was a native of West Virginia and had lived most of his life in Bristol Tennessee. He was loved by all he met because of his kindness, gentleness and love for all. Jerry was a loving brother and a very special uncle.
He is survived by two brothers, Ben Fullen of Ohio and J.B. Fullen of North Carolina; special sister-in-law and caregiver, Frances Fullen of Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews, including, Debbie Gaminde and Donna Fogleman of Abingdon, Diana Gaminde of Charlotte, N.C., Mark Fullen of Eastern Virginia, Blake Fullen of Atlanta, Tim, Darlene and Jamie Fullen of North Carolina, and J.B. Fullen Jr. of England; and a very special friend, Louise Anderson.

The funeral service for Robert Harmon will be conducted at 2 o'clock Monday at the Open Door Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Leonard and Rev. M.L. Salyers officiating. Mr. Harmon, 75, of 200 Hilltop Drive, Bristol, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, from Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Billy R. Holbrook
CLINTWOOD - Billy R. Holbrook, 56, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at his home. He was a life long resident of Dickenson County and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 8979 of Clintwood and a member of the Peuther Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Hattie Holbrook; two brothers, Leon and Ron Holbrook; one sister, Marie Williams; and two infant children, Shelia and Patricia Holbrook.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Puckett Holbrook; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Missy Holbrook of Clintwood; one daughter, Debbie Holbrook Ramey of Clintwood; two brothers, Noah "Bud" Holbrook, Bristol Virginia and Odis Holbrook and his wife Maria, Martinez, Ga.; two sisters, Elizabeth Pennington and her husband Claude, Jonesborough, Tenn., and Jewell Amburgey and her husband Estel, Castlewood; one granddaughter, Deanne Ramey; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at the Peuther Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Glenn Sluss officiating. Burial will follow in the Peuther Chapel Church Cemetery where military service will be conducted by the VFW Post 8979, DAV Chapter 35 and American Legion Post 227. Eugene B. Jewell
WHITEWOOD, Va. - Mr. Eugene B. Jewell, 80, departed this life Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at a Lebanon hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Buchanan County, Va., and was a son of the late William Henry and Mary Hagerman Jewell.
He worked as a mechanic for Jewell Ridge and Jewell Smokeless Coal Companies, working also as a truck driver for several independent mines. His greatest joy was sharing his skills as a mechanic with his friends and family. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II and was a member of the Shelter Free Will Baptist Church at Whitewood. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 318 AF&AM of Richlands.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Bill, A.B. "Buck", Oliver, Elbert, Charles and Roy Jewell; also two sisters, Mrs. Wallace (Watie) Collins and Mrs. F.G. (Madge) Cole.
Survivors are one daughter, Shirley Grey Jewell of Presidio, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Silas (Naomi) Bullion of Whtiewood and Mrs. Herman (Ruby) Fuller of Whitewood; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Earl Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery on White Mountain. Pallbearers will be nephews and men of the Shelter Baptist Church. Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands after 6 p.m. Monday.

Lois C. Laforce
LEBANON - Lois Chafin Laforce, 68, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in the Grace Health Care Center in Abingdon after a long battle with cancer.
A native of Russell County, she was a longtime member of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, having taught Sunday School, Bible School, sang in the choir and played the keyboard. For many years, she wrote a column for The Lebanon News entitled "Lines from Lois". Prior to that she retired from the federal government in the early eighties from administration and counseling. An avid gardener, nature love and craftsperson, she also loved developing new recipes.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mae C. Chafin.
Survivors include her husband, James Mack Laforce; also several cousins.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Turner and the Rev. Leonard Ferguson officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. Those attending should meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. to go to the cemetery in procession. Kathryn S. Lester
HARRISONBURG, Va. - Mrs. Kathryn Steele Lester, 90, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Center in Harrisonburg. Born in Tazewell County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Edgar Steele and Bennie Thompson Steele. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred B. Lester Sr.
She was a former resident of Washington County before moving to Sunnyside Retirement Center in 1985. She was a member of the Maple Grove Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Lester is survived by her children, Fred B. Lester Jr. of Bristol Virginia, James Lester of Bristol Tennessee and Linda Sutherland of Abingdon; three sisters, Margaret Moneymaker of Williamsburg, Va., and Louise Watt and Virginia Farmer, both of Sunnyside Retirement Center in Harrisonburg; a brother, Edgar Steele of Richmond; three grandchildren, Kevin Lester, Shawn Lester and Scottie Lane and four great-grandchildren, Jared, Audra, Zachary and Shauna.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in the Maple Grove Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stephen Talbert officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Velma Pauline Lowe
BAPTIST VALLEY, Va. - Mrs. Velma Pauline Lowe, 90, went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, Dec. 14, 2002, at her residence with her loving family by her side. Born on May 25, 1912, in Tazewell County, Va., she was the daughter of the late George and Dora Beavers West. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, T. Crockett Lowe; her son, Sherman D. Lowe; two grandsons; and several brothers and sisters.
She was a member of the Yost Chapel Church at Baptist Valley.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frances Colley and husband Don of Cedar Bluff and Mrs. Margaret Campbell and husband Jim of North Tazewell; four sons, Dewey R. Lowe, Charles E. Lowe, David C. Lowe and wife Mildred, all of Cedar Bluff, and David C. Lowe Jr. and wife Sheena of Lumberton, Texas; daughter-in-law, Juanita Lowe of Holly Hill, Fla; four brothers, Tom West of Texas, George West and wife Clara of Cedar Bluff, William R. West and wife Boots of Seymour, Tenn., and James West and wife Delores of Tazewell; one sister, Marian Benfield, Glen Burnie, Md.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; special caregiver, Ethel Stumpp of Richlands; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

WISE - Master Sgt. Paul C. Rains (Retired), 80, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac A. and Myrtle Thompson Rains; three brothers, Byron A. Rains, Isaac A. Rains Jr. and James E. Rains; a sister, Inez Wheatley; and two infant siblings, Jimmy and Elizabeth. He was a graduate of Wise High School, a retired employee of the Wise County Sheriff's Department for 21 plus years and of the Baptist faith. Mr. Rains was a veteran of World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam conflict serving in the U.S. Air Force. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Lucille Dotson Rains; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randall and Teresa Rains of Richmond and Mark Rains of Wise; a brother, Carl Rains of Winter Haven, Fla.; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy and Dr. Carl B. Bolling of Roswell, Ga., Aileen Salyer and Jennie Robinson, both of Wise, and Jean Wheatley of Meridian, Miss.; four grandchildren, Rebecca Rains, Allison Rains, Laura Rains and David Rains; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel, Wise, with Pastor Ben Murphy officiating. RURAL RETREAT - Joshua Allen Repass, 22, died Saturday morning, Dec. 14, 2002, as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Palmer and Elsie Repass.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Melody and Joe Matney; his father and stepmother, Tommie and Aralene Repass, and one sister, Sara Grace Repass, all of Rural Retreat; maternal grandparents, Charles and Barbara Gregory of Marion; maternal great-grandmother, Grace Brewster of Chilhowie; two stepbrothers, Joe Matney of Speedwell, Va., and Seth Matney of Rural Retreat; two stepsisters, Selena Charles of Salem, Va., Misty Matney of Rural Retreat; great-aunt, Clara Huffman of Rural Retreat; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Alfred Raymond Ricketts
MARION, N.C. - Raymond Ricketts, 89, formerly of Bristol Tennessee, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Autumn Care of Marion. A native of Wilson County, Tenn., he was a son of the late Alfred Taylor Ricketts and Della Ricketts. He was retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He was also a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Bristol Tennessee, a member of Comer Lodge 417 F&AM, a Scottish Rite Mason and member of the Al Menah Temple. A daughter, Ann, and a son, Charles, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Rosie Harden Ricketts of the home; two children, Carol Ricketts of Asheboro and David Ricketts and his wife Sherron of Marion; one brother, Howell Layne Ricketts and his wife, Mattie Ann of Watertown, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Hunter Funeral Home Chapel in Watertown, Tenn. The family will receive friends from 8:30 - 10 a.m. on Monday prior to the service at Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Jones Hill Cemetery.
