Norman Joseph Goff
Norman Joseph "Joe" Goff, 82, of Bristol Tennessee, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House. He was born in Greenlee, Rockridge County, Va., a son of the late Levi Houston Goff and Naomi Leighton Goff and grew up in Covington, Va. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a major in 1964. He then worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 15 years. He had lived in Bristol for the past 30 years and was a member of Westhighlands Church and the V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth Goff; three sons, Joseph Lee Goff and his wife Barbara of Shreveport, La., Donald Gary Goff and his wife Heidi of Tampa, Fla., and Mark David Goff, also of Tampa; two sisters, Gladys Gaylor of Newport News, Va., and Mildred Rose of Roanoke, Va.; a brother, Houston Goff of Covington; four grandchildren, Angie Parker, Joey Goff, Amy Butler and Jason Goff; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Pastor J. Samuel Rasnake officiating. The committal service and entombment will be at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at the Heritage Chapel of Memories in Glenwood Cemetery with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 6975 Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Blair, Dennis Lawhun, Wilbur Alsup, Eddie Mann, Wayne Felty and Allen King. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:15 Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Grant C. Hawkins
Graveside services for Grant C. Hawkins will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Hawkins, age 87, went to be with the Lord Sunday, June 30, 2002, in the Select Specialty Hospital.

Maxie Gobble McIntrye
ABINGDON - Maxie Gobble McIntrye, age 101, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at the Grace Healthcare Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County. She was the oldest member of Woodland Baptist Church where she attended for over 60 years. She was the last surviving child of 12 children of the late George W. and Kate Gobble. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irby W. McIntyre; and one grandson, James "Lee" Wertz.
She is survived by two daughters, Maxine M. Singleton of Abingdon and Edith K. Wertz of Bristol Virginia; four grandchildren, Gail Singleton, Glen Edward "Eddie" Rosenbaum, Gary Singleton Sr. and Timothy J. Singleton, all of Abingdon; five great-grandchildren, Gary Allen Singleton Jr., Valerie Singleton, Hillary Singleton, Nathan Singleton and Justin Singleton; and two great-great-grandchildren, Christina and Tyler Singleton.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob McCormick officiating.
Burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park, Abingdon.
The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Woodland Baptist Church.

DANTE - Ethel Bryant, 85, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at her home.
She was born on Hazel Mountain in Dickenson County, Va. She was the daughter of the late George and Leah Phillips Kiser. Mrs. Bryant was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Bryant; and two sons, Elmer Kenneth Bryant and Jimmy McNeal Bryant.
She is survived by her five daughters, Loraine Link and husband Matthew of Dante, Garnetta Horner and husband Frank, Loretta Steele and husband James, all of Castlewood, Dorothy "Tess" Sexton of St. Paul and Marilyn Faber and husband William of Abingdon; two sons, Bobby J. Bryant of St. Joseph, Mo., and Ted Bryant and wife Sharon of Dante; one brother, James M. Kiser of Dante; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, on Saturday, July 27, 2002, at 2 p.m. with Rev. John McCarroll officiating. Interment will be in Bozier Cemetery, Dickenson County, Va. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

ABINGDON - Eldridge B. Hutton, 68, a resident of 26226 Vicerroy Drive, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Athens, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late William Jackson and the late Bessie Mae Gibbs Farmer. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: her husband, William H. Hutton of Abingdon; two daughters, Patricia Diane Hutton of Abingdon and Rebecca Jane Rosenbaum of Abingdon; one son, General Scotty Millsap of Saltville; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Tim Hutton
Petty Officer 1st Class Tim Hutton, 41, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was born in Bristol Tennessee, a son of the late Mildred Widener Hutton and H. Earl Hutton, and attended Bristol Tennessee High School and Tennessee Tech University. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the submarine USS Miami as a sonar technician and was later transferred to Pearl Harbor. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
He is survived by one brother, Mickey Hutton of Piney Flats; and numerous aunts,. uncles and cousins.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Heritage Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Mountain View Cemetery with military funeral rites. James L. Martin
ELK GARDEN, Va. - Mr. James Larry "Simp" Martin, 56, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2002, in a Lebanon hospital. Born June 8, 1946, in Russell County, Va., he was a son of the late James H. and Geneva Dotson Martin. He had spent most of his life in the Russell County area and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Retha Wanda Gumpbert and Linda Carol Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Ray Martin of the home; one daughter, Julie Martin Sandzimier and her husband, Jason of Roanoke; one son, Johnny Martin and his wife Sonya of Castlewood; two stepdaughters of the home, LeeAnn Hess and Kayla Blankenship; one brother, Palmer "Pete" Martin and his wife, Janet of Honaker; two grandchildren, Emily Martin and Sam Martin; three stepchildren, Charles Hughes of Swords Creek, Va., Annie Groves of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Terri Aubrey of Charlottesville, Va.; one niece, Cathy Martin; two nephews, Andrew Martin and Jeff Gumpbert; and several cousins and step-grandchildren also survive.
Private graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Clark Cemetery on Big A Mountain near Honaker with Rev. Chris Musick. Interment will follow in the Clark Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Palmer "Pete" Martin, Andrew Martin, Jason Sandzimier, Chuck Hughes, Jeff Gumpbert and Gary Statzer.

Billy Lee McFadden
Billy Lee "Shuttle Buggy" McFadden, 63, of 121 Reedy St., Bristol, Va., passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Dunbar, Va.,. son of the late Charles and Lucy Meade McFadden. He had lived in the Bristol area for 40 years. He was an Air Force veteran during the Koran War. He was a retired Teamster and a 32nd degree Mason in Jericho Shrine, Kingsport. He was a member of the 688 Blue Lodge, Kingsport. He was a member of the Scottish Rites of Free Masonry, Knoxville. He was a member of the Jericho Marching Patrol. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Keesee McFadden; an infant, Mary Ann McFadden; and a brother, Charles McFadden Jr.
Survivors include: fiancee, Joanne Conley; daughter, Tammie McFadden and her fiance, Michael James, Bristol Virginia; sons, Michael McFadden and wife, Melissa, Kingsport and Mark McFadden and wife, Sherry, Bristol Virginia; granddaughters, Amber and Ashleeann McFadden; grandsons, Chad and Douglas McConnell; brothers, Dallas McFaddin, Bristol Tennessee, Troy McFadden, Bristol Virginia, and Harvey McFadden, Lebanon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

MEADOWVIEW - Mr. Miles H. Moore, 98, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday evening July 24, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Moore was the widower of Myrtle Rickman Moore and had lived and worked most of his life in Meadowview as a watch and clock repairmen.
He is also preceded in death by bbrothers, William, Carl and Alfred Moore; and a foster son, Jerry Cardwell.

POUND - Lela E. Mullins, 77, died July 25, 2002, in Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City.
Mrs. Mullins was a member of the Fairview Old Regular Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Pound V.F.W. Post 9600. She was preceded in death by her husband, Auville Mullins; one brother, Bobby Emmitte Mullins; two sisters, Opra Sleison and Rita Wiggins; and her parents, Emmitte Mullins and Dessie Cantrell Mullins.
Surviving are daughters, Sheila Taylor, Pound and Karon (Kaye) Boggs, Wise; sons, Stevie Mullins, Woodbridge, Va., and Tim R. Mullins, Pound; brother, Arvid (Duckhead) Mullins, Pound; a host of friends and loved ones; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

BLUFF CITY - Michael Kenneth Mullins, 47, 558 Bunker Hill Road, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, in the Hospice House of Bristol, Bristol, Tennessee, following a brief illness. A native of Tampa, Fla., he was the son of Bernice Joyce Wilcox Mullins, Elizabethton, and the late Cecil Kenneth Mullins, He was a member of Doe River Baptist Church, Elizabethton, and was self-employed. Mr. Mullins was an avid race car fan. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Marines and U.S. Army.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife of the home, Belva E. Mullins; four daughters and one son-in-law, Christine Hopson Webb, Ala., Karen "Missy" and Lee W. Jr. Mixon, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., Tara Summer Timmons, Homestead, Fla., and Jessi Leigh Mullins, Bluff City; and two grandchildren, Kaylee Mixon and Nathan Mixon, both of Shaw Air Force Base.

RADFORD, Va. - Margaret Rector Pierce, 78, formerly of Saltville, went to her eternal peace Wednesday, July 24, 2002. Mrs. Pierce was a retired school teacher with more than 30 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vint and Annie Rector, and two brothers, Vint Jr. and Mitchell Rector.
Mrs. Pierce is survived by her loving husband, John, and son, John Jr. of Radford; two brothers, Elmer and Troy Rector of Edgewater, Fla.; two sisters, Annie Mae Antrobus of Charlottesville, Va., and Lucille Rector Asbury of Saltville.

LEBANON - Mary Ohlene Hubble Smith, 75, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, in the Maple Grove Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 7, 1926, in Russell County, Va., the daughter of the late Shuler and Della Davis Hubble, she was the widow of the late Calvin C. Smith.
She was retired from Russell Manufacturing and was of the Baptist faith. She was also preceded in death by one son, Richard Dean Smith; one sister, Stella Kate Smith; three brothers, Claude Hubble, Herman Hubble and Byrd Hubble; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Smith.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Eddie (Judy) O'Quinn, Lebanon, Mrs. Jimmy (Frances) Willis, Castlewood and Mrs. Rick (Peggy) Fleenor, Abingdon; two sons, Don Smith and wife Judy, Castlewood and David Smith and wife Eileen, Lebanon; eight grandchildren, Joey Smith, Jamie Smith, Justin Smith, Adam Smith, Crystal Smith, Melanie Fleenor, Sandra Willis and Brenda France; two great-grandsons, Corey France and Devan France; and one brother, Robert Hubble, Church Hill, Tenn.

Patricia L. Widner Vaughn, 55, of Bristol Tennessee, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a daughter of the late Clark C. and Mabel B. Leonard Widner. She was a member of Central Baptist Church where she loved and was loved by the church family.
Pat was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Nell West and Dorothy Ann McGill; and one brother, Charles "Chuck" Widner.
She is survived by her husband, Payton Vaughn; her daughter, Melissa LeeAnn Vaughn of Bristol Tennessee; her grandson, Evan Daniel Vaughn of Bristol Tennessee; her sister, Martha Widner Roark of Bristol Virginia; her brother, Paul Widner and his wife Connie of Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 o'clock Saturday morning, July 27, at the graveside in Barker Cemetery, Livingston Creek Road, with Pastor Tom Hicks officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 6-8 o'clock Friday evening at Blevins Funeral Home.
