NORTON - Funeral services for James David Hunsucker will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Darrell Milgram officiating. Burial will follow in the Hunsucker Family Cemetery, Route 2, Wise.
Mr. Hunsucker, 38, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at his home on Guest River Road.

Elmer C. Jones Jr.
GATE CITY - Elmer C. (Skip) Jones Jr., 47, of Route 4, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born in Kingsport on May 23, 1955. He was a graduate of Gate City High School and member of the 1970 Gate City High School State Championship football team. He was previously employed by Begley Coal and Construction as a heavy equipment operator. Mr. Jones was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Kathleen Jones.
Surviving are his father, Elmer C. Jones Sr. and mother, Christine Blackburn Jones, Gate City; son, Kyle Blake Jones, Kingsport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeff and Jennifer Jones, Gate City and Richard and Sherrie Jones, Bristol Virginia; one niece, Katie Jones, Gate City; two nephews, Aaron and Ryan Jones, Bristol Virginia; exceptional friend, Rick Begley, Gate City; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Calling hours are any time after 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at Colonial Funeral Home and any time at the residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bill Porter, Rev. Gene Stallard and Rev. Eckel Herron officiating. Music will be by Shirley Blackburn. A eulogy will be given by Rick Begley.
Burial will be at Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Payne Jones, Brandon Jones, Buzzy Jones, Billy McDavid, David Faust, Chris Fugate, Kenneth Herron and Gary Blackburn. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Marcum, Tommy Blackburn, Harold Jones, Eddie Vaughn, Eric Vaughn, Tom Fugate, Greg Kerney and Andy Kerney.
Terry W. Leonard
TUCSON, Ariz. - Terry Wayne Leonard, 46, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Kendrick Hospital in Tucson.
Born in Bristol Virginia, he was the son of Ilene Leonard and the late Edwyn W. Leonard and had made his home in Tucson for the past 10 years.
Surviving are one sister, Teresa Lucas of Bluff City; brothers, Tommy Leonard and Steve Leonard, both of Bristol Tennessee.
Services were conducted in Tucson.

Walter A. Maiden
Walter Allen Maiden, 92, formerly of Bristol, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, in Reston, Va. He was a life long resident of Bristol, a son of the late William F. and Mary Long Maiden, and was the widower of Pauline Gray Maiden. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from a 49-year career with Mitchell-Powers Hardware Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay Maiden and her husband Jim of Grand Cayman Island; a son, Kenneth a. "Skipp" Maiden and his wife Christine Valmassei of Reston; and one grandson, William A. Maiden of Seattle.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock Friday at the graveside in Shelby Hills Cemetery with Dr. David Stancil officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 1:30 Friday at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. POWHATAN, Va. - Mrs. Susan Kay McClain, 51, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at her home.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Billy Joe McReynolds Jr., 42, of 2814 South Stratford, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at his residence. He grew up in the Bristol area and was a graduate of Virginia High School. He was an employee of C.J.R. Products in North Carolina and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: fiancee, Sandra Trivette; son, Josh McReynolds of Charlotte, N.C.; father and stepmother, Bill and Rose McReynolds of Piney Flats; brother, Jason McReynolds; sisters, Summer Cunningham and husband Joey, and Kimberly Atkins; uncles, Wayne Grayson and wife Claudette, Bobby Grayson and wife Lois and Ronnie Grayson and wife Jennie; aunt, Nancy Bradley; stepsisters, Jackie Sparks, Jennie Sydenstricker and Shannon Thompson; four nephews; one niece; and several cousins.

TOBACCOVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Margaret Ann Widener Osborne, 70, beloved wife and mother, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a long illness. She was born Dec. 22, 1931, the seventh child of seven children to Martin Luther and Lillie Belle Greer Widener. Magaret was born and raised in the Widener Valley community of Washington County, Va. She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Lee Powers. Surviving are her loving husband of 46 years, James Dean Osborne of the home; two daughters, Denise Osborne Marler (Bryon) of Winston-Salem and Judy Osborne Smith (Tommy) of Mount Airy; a son, Phillip H. Widener Powers (Sandra Jean) of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, James Gregory Powers of Bluff City, Krystal Michelle Powers, Justin James Marler, Daniel Jebediah Powers and Jessica Caroline Marler, all of Winston-Salem, and Ethan Shane Tolbert and Logan Thomas Smith, both of Mount Airy; two brothers, Everett Burl Widener of Knoxville and Rhonda Eugene Widener of High Point; and two sisters, Clara Adelle Miller of Meadowview and Alma Isabelle Garrett of Orlando, Fla. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mike Lane officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorial services for E. Faye Booher Pierce will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Kingsway Baptist Church, 1999 Long Crescent Drive, Bristol, Va. Pastor Donald L. Page will officiate. Mackie D. Prater
ABINGDON - Mr. Mackie D. Prater, 60, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born and lived most of his life in Buchanan County and moved to Abingdon in 1992. He was a son of the late Lundy and Dennie Stiltner Prater. He was a member of Painter Creek Church of Christ where he served as deacon and chairman of the board. Mr. Prater was a retired coal miner and business owner in Grundy. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Prater and Clayton Hess; one nephew, Randy Prater; and a very special great-niece, Shana Dye.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Prater; two sons and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Eve Prater of Abingdon and Mackie Gearld Prater of Abingdon; two brothers, Bobby Prater of Grundy and Danny Prater of Abingdon; two sisters, Gaynell Silcox of Abingdon and Thelma Stiltner of Grundy; and two grandsons, Casey and Ryan Prater.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Painter Creek Church of Christ with Mr. Richard Gaminde, Mr. Mike Trent, Mr. Mike Rife, Mr. E.W. Damron and Mr. Hiliary Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Methodist Cemetery, Abingdon.
Pallbearers will be Gary Prater, Lundy Prater, Danny Keith Prater, Ronnie Prater, Jimmy Silcox, Jerry Silcox, Ricky Stiltner and Rex Stiltner.

James F. Scott
IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. - James F. Scott, 73, of W7690 Scott Drive (Breitung Twp.), died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Kingsford, he was a son of the late George and Rose Grey Scott. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1946. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was employed by Kimberly Clark in Niagara for 42 years, retiring in 1985. He also owned and operated Scott's Evergreen nursery.
Surviving are his wife Willie Moore; five daughters, Kathy Scott of Arlington, Va., Carol Maurina of Forestville, Wis., and Ida, Amy and June Scott, all of Kingsford; two sons, Gregory Scott of Iron Mountain and Donald Scott of Michigamme, Mich.; two brothers, George Scott of Peshtigo, Wis., and Joe Scott of Lower Michigan; one sister, Barbara Frosch of Hillsdale, Mich.; one stepsister, Dorothy VanHook of Detroit; and seven grandchildren.
Private family services will be held.

Vivian Hobbs Smith, 727 West Valley Drive, Bristol, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002. She was a native of Rose Hill, Va., and daughter of the late Joseph Seth Hobbs and Verna Ellen Parsons Hobbs. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Coeburn Smith.
Survivors include a daughter, Janie Lou Vega, Santa Monica, Calif.; son, Roger Smith, Bristol Virginia; sister, Winifred Klutz, Bristol Tennessee; brother, Ralph Hobbs, Newport News, Va.; grandchildren, Christopher Smith and Shannon Smith, both of Virginia Beach, Va.

Morris Neal Sutherland
Mount AIRY, N.C. - Mr. Morris Neal Sutherland, 84, beloved husband of Mary Joan Polchik Sutherland, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002. The funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at noon at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Mt. Airy. The service will be conducted by Father Eric Kowalski with entombment in Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum with full military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. A rosary prayer service will be held on Thursday at Moody Funeral Home at 7 p.m. after which the family will receive friends until 9 p.m.
Mr. Sutherland was born on Dec. 18, 1917, in Grayson County, Va., the son of the late Johnson Zachariah and Lettie Mae Keesling Sutherland. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1936 and, during World War II, served in the Pacific, New Zealand, Australia, New Guinea and Russell Island. He saw action in Guadalcanal, B.S.I. and Cape Glouchester, New Britain. A rifle expert, his decorations included the Presidential Unit World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal with European Clasp, National Defense Service Medal and American and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medals. He retired in 1957 at the rank of chief warrant officer.
Mr. Sutherland was retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. in 1979 after 13 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Holy Angels Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Joan and Mack H. Scruggs of Charlotte and Peg and Dr. John R. Palisano of Sewanee, Tenn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James Neal and Suzanne Sutherland of Denver, Colo.; two grandsons, Ben Palisano and Erick Sutherland; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Dr. Joe Sellers of Highland Springs, Va., and Clara and George Milstead of Naples, Fla.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sutherland was preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd Sutherland, Claude Sutherland, Howard Sutherland and Eugene Sutherland.

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Mrs. Ruth Ann Wise, 63, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, in Lincolnton.
Mrs. Wise had lived most of her life in Abingdon and was preceded in death by her parents, Windon and Tiny Powers Wise, and a grandson, Jeffrey Dean Wise Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Cecil Wise, Abingdon; sons, Jeffrey Dean Wise and Richard Allen Wise, both of Stanley, N.C., William Cecil Wise Jr., Iron Station, N.C., and Ernest Lee Wise, Abingdon; daughters, Debra Thomas of Stanley and Melissa Wise Parrish of Iron Station; brothers, Bob Davis and Johnny Davis, both of Abingdon, Roscoe Davis and Ernest Lee Davis, both of Thomasville, N.C., Larry Davis and Steve Davis, both of High Point, N.C., and Lonnie Davis of Stanley; sisters, Jean Thomas, Iron Station, Carolyn Thomas, Concord, N.C., Peggy Davis, Roanoke, Teresa Davis, Thomasville, and Janice Davis, High Point; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, 11 a.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Paul Price officiating.
Interment will follow in the Kestner-Reynolds Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Virgil Wise, Junior Wise, James Sailor, Robin Jones, Davis Jones, Shawn Brown and Jason Reynolds.
