The funeral service for Vernell Hughes Trent will be conducted at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the chapel of Blevins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Mr. Trent, 89, of Bristol Virginia, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Manor Care Nursing Home, Green Bay, Wis.

LEBANON - Roy Lee Anderson, 79 passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002.

Clyde H. Buchanan Jr.
ABINGDON - Mr. Clyde Herbert Buchanan Jr., 74, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Born in Damascus, he was a son of the late Clyde H. Buchanan Sr. and Ella Mae Wilson Buchanan.
Mr. Buchanan was a member of the Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, a life member of the Washington County Life Saving Crew and a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by is wife, Doris W. Buchanan; a son and daughter-in-law, Clyde M. (Mickey) Buchanan and wife Andrea of Sterling, Va.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca (Becky) B. Thompson and husband Roy W. Thompson and Vickie B. Crigger and husband John Crigger Jr., all of Abingdon; a sister, Geraldine Buchanan of Abingdon; four grandchildren, Travis W. Thompson, Eric Thompson, Lyndsey Crigger and Patti Buchanan; and a great-granddaughter, Madelynn Thompson.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at the graveside in Knollkreg Memorial Park with Pastor Robert Tolar officiating. Interment will follow. Casketbearers will be Bob Buchanan, Bill Buchanan, D.B. Wright, Jimmy Kroll, John Crigger Sr. and Charles Edward Gray Jr. Honorary casketbearers will be members of the Washington County Life Saving Crew. Those attending the funeral service are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:40 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. In place of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Washington County Life Saving Crew, 237 Park St., Abingdon, VA 24210 or to the Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 136 E. Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Henry Chambers
VANSANT - Henry Chambers, 74, of the Prater Community, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, in Buchanan General Hospital. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Carl and Clementine Childress Chambers. He was a retired miner and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Dollie Charles Chambers; three sons, Charlie Pal Chambers, Michael Chambers and George Hank Chambers, all of Vansant; two sisters, Gladys Chambers of Chaffee, Mo., and Caroline Prater of Williamson, W.Va.; one brother, Thurman Chamber of Brooksville, Fla.; grandchildren, Melanie Boyd, Amanda Clevinger, Jamie Chambers and Nathan Chambers; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Haysi Funeral Home Chapel with Elders Aven Viers, Freddie Ramey, Bobby Davis and Buster Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Charles-Deel Cemetery on Viers Branch. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday after 6 p.m. where a service will be held at 7 p.m.

Harry W. Dellinger
VANSANT - Harry W. Dellinger, 83 years of age, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Buchanan General Hospital following a short illness. Born at Wilder, Va.,. he was a son of the late William Reece and Laura Catherine Phillips Dellinger. He had been a resident of the Grundy area several years and was a member of Grundy Baptist Church where he served as an usher. Mr. Dellinger served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, receiving the American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion, a member of IOOF Lodge 17 of Grundy and a retired employee of Modern Sales and Service, Inc. Mr. Dellinger remained active as a community businessman until his death.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Biddy Jane Kiser Dellinger, Vansant; two daughters, Kathy and husband Eddie Hannah, Vansant and Linda Neville, Cheriton, Va.; one son, Gary Dellinger, Bristol Virginia; two sisters, Evelyn Anderson, Easton, Pa., and Billie Ruth Rasnake, Dante, Va.; one brother, Earl Dellinger, Grundy; seven grandchildren, Julie Permel, Scott Neville, Brooks, Jane and Brian Dellinger and Mary Beth and William Hannah; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Ivan, Winfield, Warren, John, George and Omar Dellinger.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Grundy Baptist Church with Rev. Howell Scott officiating with burial to follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood at 2 p.m.
Friends may call at Grundy Baptist Church Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Raines, Ralph Perry, Bill Salyer, Charles M. (Mel) Keen, Vernon Belcher, Jay Rife, Larry D. Ratliff, Jimmy S. Deel, Sherman Jackson and Robert Hale.
Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion.
The family suggests that expression of sympathy be made in the form of contributions to American Heart Association, Grundy, VA 24614, Grundy Baptist Church, P.O. Box 675, Grundy, VA 24614 or Southwest Virginia Community College, P.O. Box SVCC, Richlands, VA 24641.

Virgil E. Hilliard
Funeral services for Virgil Eugene Hilliard will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, in the Mountain View Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Epperson officiating. Entombment will follow. The family will receive friends at the home of grandparents, Clarence and Eliza Langley, 1912 Kentucky Ave., Bristol, TN.
The infant son of Steven Ray Sr. and Glenna Hilliard, of 1473 Kingmill Pike, Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord, Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

James B. Hughes
James B. Hughes, 72, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born Nov. 20, 1929, in Lebanon, he lived most of his life in Bristol Tennessee. He was a member of the North Bristol Baptist Church. He was owner and operator of Hughes' Classic Mustang Parts and a member of the 1st Tennessee Regional Mustang Club. He was a member of the AACA Car Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 of Bristol. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Della Hughes of Cleveland, Va.; three sisters, Viola Bass of Bristol Virginia, Gladys Umbarger of Kingsport, Hazel Pyle of Lebanon; and three brothers, Dallas Hughes of Detroit, Orivelle Hughes of Lebanon and Lacy Hughes of Cleveland, Va.
Survivors include wife, Madeline Hughes; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jim Nave, Piney Flats; son, Dean Hughes of Bluff City; granddaughter, Jennifer McGee and her husband, John Gale McGee; grandson, B.J. Nave; two sisters, Kathleen Robinson, Cleveland, Va., and Lois Carter, Gate City; brother, Bill Hughes, Cleveland, Va.; brother-in-law, Ed Lambert, Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Branch officiating. Burial will follow in the Knollkreg Memorial Park, Abingdon. Pallbearers will be John Gale McGee, Jim Nave, Ben Copenhaver, Doug Leonard, Eugene Robinson and Bruce Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers will be the 1st Tennessee Regional Mustang Club of Kingsport. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Weaver Funeral Home.

Ruby H. Ketron
Ruby H. Ketron of Bristol Tennessee, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Meridian, Miss., and moved to Tennessee following her marriage to the late William Clinton Ketron. She was a long time member of Central Christian Church. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, T.O. Cowan III.
She is survived by three children, Evelyn Lindamood and her husband David of Bristol Tennessee, Caroline Cowan of Knoxville and William Douglas Ketron and his wife Linda of Bristol Virginia; three grandchildren, Lisa Lindamood, Taylor Chadwick Cowan and Caroline Kristin Cowan.
The family sincerely appreciates her care taker and friend, Dapine Alexander.
The funeral service will be conducted at 5 o'clock Friday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2002, in the Heritage Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Glenwood Cemetery with Dr. Ross Dampier officiating. Kyle C. Love
BLUFF CITY - Kyle C. Love, 87, of 2030 Vance Tank Road, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at her home. She was a native of Watauga, Va., and lived most of her life in the Bristol area. She was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Mary Barlow Anderson. She was a former employee of Emory University Hospital of Atlanta and was a member of the First Church of God where she served as Sunday School teacher, church secretary and treasurer. She was the widow of Woody Love.
Survivors include son, Darryl Love; grandchildren, Kimberly Mahaffey and husband, Mike and Christopher C. Love; great-granddaughter, Savanna Mahaffey; sister, Marie Worley Funk, Bristol Tennessee, and brother, Elmer Anderson, Leesville, S.C.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don McGregor and Rev. Freddie Troball officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Anderson, Gene Anderson, Bill Chapman, Eddie Phillippie, Eddie Ball and Billy Galliher. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Weaver Funeral Home.

Porter C. Marsh
Porter C. Marsh, 83, of 411 Henson Road, Bristol, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Marsh was a native of Flat Top, Va., but had spent most of his life in the Bristol area. He was a retired employee of the City of Bristol Tennessee with over 15 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola E. Marsh. He was a member of the West Hills Christian Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Linda Marsh of Bristol Tennessee; one sister and brother-in-law, Lorean and Herbert Lyttle of Bristol Virginia; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lester MacKinnon and Pastor Bill Nelson officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Tim Marsh. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at the Akard Funeral Home.

Franklin B. Petty
Franklin Benjamin "Jack" Petty, 79, of Wilderness Road, Lowry Hills, Bristol, Va., passed away Sept. 11, 2002, at Johnson Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Greensboro, N.C., a son of the late F.B. Petty Sr. and Beulah White Petty, and had lived in Bristol since 1969. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine Service. He was a sales representative for the Addressograph-Multigraph Corporation for 35 years and had attained a lifetime membership in A-M Corporation's One Hundred Club. Mr. Petty was a 32nd Degree Mason and a life member of St. John's Masonic Lodge, Portsmouth, N.H. He was a member of State Street United Methodist Church and the Men's Fellowship Class.
Mr. Petty was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Petty Alexander and brother-in-law, Woodrow Alexander of Woodruff, S.C.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Belle Teague Petty; a daughter, Mary Amelia (Amy) Cleary of Oakton, Va.; a son, Bradford Jay Petty of the home; and a nephew, Jimmy Bolling of Wilmington, N.C.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 o'clock Friday evening, Sept. 13, in State Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jane Taylor officiating. The committal service and entombment will be at 11 o'clock Saturday morning in the mausoleum chapel at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Steve Lovins, Paul Loudy, Bill Robinson, John Gibson, Tom Finks, Wayne Rush and Ted Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Morgan and L.W. Smith, both of Greensboro, N.C., Bill Morgan of Dallas and Dr. Thomas Johnson, staff of the Cancer Outreach Clinic, Abingdon, and Lewis Cutright In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to State Street United Methodist Church, 300 West Valley Drive, Bristol, VA 24201 or to the Bristol Cancer Association, 126 Johnson St., Bristol, VA 24201. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the service.

Mary G. Shelley
Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Shelley will be conducted Friday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. at Lee Street Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until time of funeral. Dr. W.A. Johnson will officiate. Pallbearers will be the trustees of Lee Street Baptist Church, Mike Hodges and members of Bristol Social and Civic Club. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the church. Flower bearers will be deaconess of the church, Deloris Hodges and members of the Bristol Social and Civic Club. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery Saturday, Sept. 14. The cortege will leave Robinson Mortuary at 10 a.m.

Worley Joseph Smith

Mr. Smith, 90, of 1463 East State St., Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House.

Clarence O. Widener
Clarence O. Widener, 78, of Bristol Virginia, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Greystone Health Care Center.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Bristol and was a son of the late Haden M. and Ella Urps Widener. Clarence was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from Bristol Door and Lumber Co.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Haden "Jimbo" Widener.
He is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Widener Carrier of Bristol Virginia; one brother, Hubert R. Widener of Straw Plains, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Sept. 14, in the chapel of Blevins Funeral Home with Pastor Doug McCracken officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon, Sept. 16, at the graveside in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Elizabeth Carrier, 1108 Rhode Island Ave., Bristol, VA 24201. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Anna M. Arnold
Graveside services for Anna Michales Arnold will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mountain View Cemetery with Rev. Phil Kestner and Rev. Jackie Cox officiating. Friends and neighbors will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Arnold, 91, of 1132 ½ Virginia Ave., Bristol, Tenn., passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in Wellmont Hospice House.

Donnie L. Burrell
KINGSPORT - Donnie L. Burrell, 54, died Sunday evening, Sept. 15, 2002, at Indian Path Medical Center after a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Kingsport, Donnie served two tours in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.
He was employed with Lowes where he was a plumbing specialist. Mr. Burrell was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Burrell.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Lee Burrell of the home; daughter, Stephanie Lee Burrell of the home; two sons, Jeremiah I. Burrell and wife Mary, Gray, Tenn., and Daniel I. Burrell, Blountville; three grandchildren, Adam, Mikayla and Marisa Burrell, Gray; mother, Emily Burrell, Kingsport; one sister, Edna Sluss and husband Kyle, Gray; and a nephew, James Sluss, Kingsport.
Calling hours are 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the downtown chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, with the Rev. Gary R. Bement officiating.
Burial will be in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Abingdon.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 of the V.F.W.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kingsport Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 3952, Kingsport, TN 37664.
